ChatGPT creator OpenAI has signed an "unprecedented" deal to provide live news in response to user queries. (CNBC)

The deal is with publishing group Axel Springer, provider of virtual birdcage liners such as Politico and Business Insider.
Meanwhile Dropbox has signed a deal with OpenAI to... Bring AI to your Dropbox. (Ars Technica)

Details are not so much vague, exactly, as entirely absent.

There is a button to turn it off (it is on by default).

So that's gonna get fixed with leftover venison hash, 4 eggs and a couple sourdough biscuits, toasted lightly. The hash was from a very young deer and that first bite near brought a tear of happy. Fella could definitely get a bit plump on diets like this.

76 Scotus has allowed future presidents to impose vaccine mandates by choosing not to decide. So next time the government gets all authoritarian, the people will have to sue again.

Basically, there was an injunction stopping the mandate by a lower court. Scotus was asked to hear the case, but they decided to vacate and remand because, of course, it is moot now. They could have heard the case or dropped a signed order that would prevent future mandates, but they are all worthless fucks.

There were complaints about it having contamination from asbestos (it was built in the mid-'60s). Made a me little nervous to hear that, I can tell you. I worked in that building from '92 to '97, in a just-under-the penthouse suite housing the Christian AM radio station where I worked.

No idea what they plan to erect in its place, if anything. A tall parking garage, another office tower, a combo office/condo/apartment block, who knows. It's not exactly a glamorous area: It's near the Union Passenger Terminal, Greyhound and Amtrak, and a ways from the WWII Museum.

96 So we stopped at a local restaurant yesterday, where we were waited on by this wonderful young waitress.

During the course of our meal I mentioned that I can not wait for them to ditch the paper straws, and go back to plastic.
Her response was that she hated them as well, and would love to have plastic back. I then said that the one turtle with a star up its nose had already died, and there weren't any others that stupid. And she responded that straws weren't the problem, and never had been the problem. A decidedly odd conversation for an older codger like me and a young black female, but we both seemed to think along the same lines.

So ultimately, Mrs VIA and I asked her about her educational background, and she is a USC graduate with her degree in anthropology, can't stand the lock step hive mind of many of her peers, and likes to understand facts before she develops an opinion on a subject.

We told her that her mother should be very proud of her.

Everyone has mutations in genes which *could* result in death.

204 I can't say where for obvious reasons, but one day i had to work on an HVAC unit in the middle of a live 911 call center. It was a crazy experience. Little crew sitting around, nice as nice could be, jovial, welcoming, happy, and then *SNAP* one of them is on the phone grimly, coldly, and efficiently talking someone through some grisly situation or another, like the world's least funny Bob Newhart telephone bit, and then orchestrating the dispatch of all the emergency people needed for them. And then *SNAP* they shake it off and go right back to their pleasant selves again.

Impressive and kind of scary at the same time.

They're not preventing you from overclocking (they actually support it), but if you plan a return on a $10K processor that you've abused, it's a headsup for them to see if it's something the user did that caused the failure. At Threadripper prices, you really should be very, very careful what you're doing and AMD is making sure you do that.
