Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition![]() The Democrat war on gas continues. Now, Democrats propose jailing Washingtonians for using gas-powered landscaping tools like leaf blowers. State Representative Amy Walen (D-Kirkland) pre-filed legislation that makes sweeping additions to the Washington State Clean Air Act. HB 1868 bans “gasoline-powered and diesel-powered landscaping and other outdoor power equipment” for “contributing to climate change.” The bill lists a number of unintended health consequences tied to the tools, as well, including the claim that they cause asthma. The bill gets to the ban by empowering the Department of Ecology to “adopt rules to prohibit engine exhaust and evaporative emissions from new outdoor power equipment” by either January 1, 2026 or sooner, if the state determines it’s feasible to do so earlier. Washingtonians are expected to upgrade their equipment to zero-emission alternatives. Government work, however, is partly exempt. That government work will be to save government employees during natural disasters, and to repair infrastructure after fires and earthquakes and such. Because the obvious yet unspoken reality is that there is absolutely nothing like gasoline-powered tools to get things done quickly and safely. Are government firemen going to use battery-powered saws during forest fires? Yeah...I doubt it. It's amazing that the text of the law implicitly recognizes the superiority of the outlawed tools, yet the worship of Gaiaiaia at the expensive of human progress is paramount. Violating this law could mean up to 365 days in jail or a significant fine. That's my favorite part. Washington voted for these maniacs, so give it to them good and hard. But don't worry, they won't be jailing wetbacks using power tools to manicure lawns in the nice parts of town; they'll be nabbing some farmer using a gas-powered chain saw to clear his land. Because leftists are nothing if not perfect at selective enforcement of their laws in service of the larger goal of the destruction of traditional America. Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

++++ Man, the secondhand market for stuff like this is going to be *great.* We're all going to get used to "Cuban car maintenance" to keep the old stuff that works going for as long as humanly possible. It will also do weird things to demand. For example, the FedGov is making noise about banning the R410-A refrigerant soon, which means we're about to start the decline in availability of A/C recharges at a reasonable price, while still being in the "does this new shit even work" phase. So I bit the bullet and replaced my HVAC this year. The old system was 30+ years old and so beyond design life regardless and so I just bit the bullet and pulled forward the demand rather than be caught out and facing unknowns next year or the year after. Lots of regulatory perverse incentive. Posted by: naturalfake at December 14, 2023 11:11 AM (QzZeQ) ++++ Indifference, and short-term thinking. Tranq (the fentanyl + xylazine) is *extremely* addictive and more intense than fentanyl on its own. Once you get, you'll probably never quit. Great for the dealers. Also, xylazine is a fairly cheap doping agent, which makes the fentanyl stretch further and reach more people. Add in to it Narcan which reduces risk of death and policy which reduces risk of punishment, and it's a witch's brew of conditions that help a drug *this* bad dig in. And most of it is not on purpose on the part of the user. Many fentanyl users end up getting Tranq anyway. It's cheaper to produce, so into the pipeline it goes. The cartels don't care. Washington is challenging California (the perennial winner of the Lunatic State award) for top spot on the list of the stupidest, most freedom-stealing states in the union
CA's feral, racist citizens are doing their best to retain the crown! @DarwinBondGraha Someone destroyed a menorah at Oakland’s Lake Merritt last night. The Jewish religious display was ripped down and thrown into the lake. Police are on scene and city workers just recovered the parts are we to take your post as celebration of this hateful act? The body of your post contains the DNC's donkey kicking and a lineup of red, black, green and white images, signaling your support for Palestine. Just an attempt to convince American Jews to use their influence with Israel to stop attacking Hamas. I was informed such influence exists and is the reason pro-Palestinian protests are going after Jewish targets. Or antisemitism. Oakland deserves every bit of the reputation it has earned as a city steeped in antisemitism. I lost my faith in people in the US the day Donald Drump was elected. Well... depends on when you want to say things really got 'bad.'
-the Sullan-Marian purges were no picnic (83-83BC) -the second triumvirate purged a hell of a lot of Republicans (and anyone they saw as enemies, 43BC) -Tiberius/Sejanus, Caligula, Nero (hell, even Claudius was no peach in the treason trial dept.) -Domitian was not exactly easy to get along with -Hadrian could be a prick, especially in his later years -Commodus -Severan Dynasty was not exactly 'great'. Severus himself, Caracalla (who was a gigantic asshole), Elagabalus was more just 'weird'. Alexander Severus was probably the only decent human being. People usually see the third century crisis (which started when Thrax assassinated Alexander S) as when the ball really got rolling, but I'd go all the way back to Sulla v Marius. The die was cast at that point, long before Caesar crossed the Rubicon. Posted by: Aetius451AD Work Laptop at December 14, 2023 11:24 AM (zZu0s) 86

On November 9, 2020 (six days after the last presidential election), former Attorney General William Barr directed some of his key subordinates to investigate election irregularities, freeing them up to do so by overruling a prior internal Department of Justice (“DOJ”
In particular, the United States Attorney in Philadelphia (the Eastern District of Pennsylvania), William McSwain, indicates he was told by Barr to proceed in a fashion that contradicts the November 9 Memo. And similarly, the White House liaison to the Justice Department, Heidi Stirrup, has testified that Barr freely told her that he was guiding the Justice Department using a policy very different than the one put on paper in the November 9 Memo. Blue states will entrench through whatever means they can, but ultimately they're falling back on the Curley Effect by simply driving out those who would oppose them, leaving only those who like what's being done for whatever reason (the original effect was about the preponderance of crime, I believe, so criminals liked it in Boston under Curley). We're just in a spiral where the left refuses to have kids, drives away conservatives, convinces itself that humanity is a disease and should live like stone age cavemen (except rulers because they need electricity to rule). I might even call it a death spiral.
