Evening and morning to all the satellites in space! Howz you this fine chilly morning? 'Tis 48 F. here, the coolest we've seen since . . . well, I don't rightly remember, but it was a *long* time ago. Maybe last January? Or February. Here, the groundhog would probably come out and go, ''It's too damn hot, I'm going back into my hole."

Tech (sort of) problem:
I've been using a trackball mouse, Logitech 'Ergo M575'-- the trackball doesn't respond well, even after cleaning. This unit was fairly pricey, but I guess will just go back to regular mouse w/o the stupid ball. Never had problems with those, except lack of desk space for the mousepad... Slept almost seven hours last night, after a deficit of ZZZs on Tuesday night. Seems to be the only way I catch up. I'll probably run short tonight and catch up on Friday night into Saturday. Oh, well.

Make no mistake, the administrations of these universities are totally complicit in the violence.
Posted by: San Franpsycho at December 07, 2023 04:58 AM (RIvkX) Of course they are. Modern american leftist thought seems to be entirely predicated on events that they imagine happened (and therefore justify the stupid/evil shit they do) while they also ignore the REAL shit going on and dismiss it. It is how they get around the cognitive dissonance and is a self feedback loop. The atrocities they imagine HAVE to have happened, because why else would their tacit allies (the hamas hamsters) have committed such atrocities in turn. And that loop HAS to occur or they would have to admit that they are petulant children who are evil and also, more importantly, WRONG. I only listened to the law student from Harvard and heard the testimony of the school President from Harvard , and I agree with you. They don't care about the safety of the Jewish students probably because they have enough big donors- probably from places in the Mideast/ not to care. Somebody was remarking in a post yesterday that the Harvard President sounded lame in the testimony -and then must have talked to some PR person that gave her something to write later. I think the schools should be sued, as I think they're doing at one school/- Columbia

Fen - One of the symptoms of dementia is the person leaving the house and strolling around outside naked. Someone related to my daughter by marriage it happened to just a couple of years before he died. I've kidded around before about if not for the Secret Service Joe would be strolling up 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue every night naked. So what I was referring to last night was caught on camera by a neighbor. Covid and the financial strain, sleepless nights, just choosing that particular life took a toll on that person. Mid 50's. Yes, this 'neighbor' had a lot of responsibility and as covid hit and attendance and funds dropped he had to resort to running the entire organization with nothing but volunteers. I was looking at the financials and it is kind of staggering the amount of work involved. A person in that position has to familiar with spreadsheets, data inputs, mailing lists, Facebook updates, Zoom, and a host of other software. In addition to the 'regular' duties of a more spiritual nature. As the person who told the story to me said, "He went off the deep end" to which I replied, "How deep?". She then told me of the capture on camera. That's pretty deep for a person in their mid 50's. I've read that one of the purposes of sleep is so that the brain can attend to 'housekeeping' duties and that sleepless nights can lead to bad things like early onset dementia. My bank merged and all my account information was changed... over a weekend, and I departed on a Monday early AM. By the time I could officially log in and set up the specifics of my New And Improved Bank Account I was 35,000 feet over the ocean, and now my New And Improved Bank won't let me do it because I'm on a foreign server. I can't do it over the phone: online or in person only.
And, since I have no particulars, I can't pay bills from my New And Improved Bank Account while I'm away as... no information to do so was available until Monday late AM. I couldn't even send physical checks as there was no way to get checks without the new information available. Don't get me started about the credit card company that won't let me change payment options, or even pay my bill, because I'm in OOH Scary Foreign Country. There are government programs that pay relatives to be caregivers for their elderly relations. Something that generations before was performed for free. I hear advertisements on the radio once in a while. Maybe it makes sense financially for the government to keep people in their own homes as long as possible as opposed to nursing homes or entities of that ilk. I know the assisted living my wife was at the monthly cost was approaching $10,000 and even more for dementia folks. Posted by: Divide by Zero at December 07, 2023 06:13 AM (enJYY) 107

I’ve given up social media for the New Year and am trying to make friends outside Facebook while applying the same principles. Every day, I walk down the street and tell passersby what I’ve eaten, how I feel, what I did the night before, and what I will do tomorrow. Then I give them pictures of my family, my dog, and me gardening. I also listen to their conversations and tell them I love them. And it works. "Flash dads" come to give high fives and support students:
https://tinyurl.com/5xjc3wrw -- That's one of the saddest things I've ever seen. Don't misunderstand, I appreciate what they're trying to do. But watch the video. It's elderly black men and white cops and firefighters trying to encourage kids because the children's actual dads have been removed from society. I have the most useless of quibbles about framing the college president bullshit as "antisemitism".... yes, sane people all know that word means "actual violence and harassment towards Jews", but it feels like it is intentionally being used by not sane people to imply that these administrators aren't doing enough to police their students' thought.... I believe that, for any group or category you can devise, you may hate whoever you want to hate, but you can't commit violence and assault and harassment. That should just be axiomatic. It isn't that administrators have failed to be Thought Police for a favored g... they've failed to discipline and denounce actual crime. For that matter, where are the campus police? They're usually actual State Police for jurisdiction reasons. Where are they arresting people for assault, vandalism, harassment, etc etc?
You can believe whatever you want to believe, but you can't commit crimes against *anyone*, period. The victims' Jewishness doesn't fundamentally have any bearing on the issue except as an amplification factor for the social opprobrium the assholes deserve. So frame it properly: "College administrators preside over campus crime wave". Posted by: Warai-otoko at December 07, 2023 07:08 AM (9UlRk) 195

Trump gets in the way. He sets off a visceral reaction in them (like Palin with some women) to the point where it is not even about the merits of anything he says or does any more- it is all about him. Like I have speculated here before, for some of the NErs, if Trump was literally assassinated by government agents they would be 'happy' because at least their hate object was gone and now they could focus on what was really important. Dudes, you threw away what was really important because of a personality conflict. You can see it in idle drops if you pay attention to what they say- like when ace said once '...we know Trump is probably guilty of what they are charging him with...' Really? so you are saying the persecution is warranted? 'no, no, no that's not what I'm saying' when everything they say says that is exactly what they mean. I enjoy poking fun at New Mexico's semi 3rd world status by saying "we are not allowed to have nice things here," be that an IMAX theater or a governor who isn't a totalitarian dictator. What we do have here in Las Cruces are a wildly sufficient number of CVS and Walgreens stores. Bonus round: they don't get looted daily. With that out of they I bequeath to you my "we are not allowed to have nice things" phrase as it shockingly now describes San Francisco perfectly.
