On a side note. It appears Ukraine has spit in the face of Poland so much that even the gov't is dropping support of them. Which implies a 9.75% to 11% 30-year fixed mortgage rate.

I expect the Fed to do the opposite, though. 2024 is an election year. Democraps need good press about inflation, the economy, etc. The Fed will obey its master and reduce rates for purely political reasons. I expect that will happen at the end of this year or beginning of next.

Historically, the Fed has no problem with playing politics and doing whatever it takes to enable the rulers to do what they want - right up until the chips are down and they *have* to defend the Dollar or lose control. So far, the Fed has a 100% track record of telling the government to piss up a rope while it does whatever it thinks it has to in order to defend the currency. I'm betting that this trend will continue uninterrupted.
If they get rid of Powell, that is subject to change depending on who they install. So far, Powell shows no indication of breaking with Fed tradition.

That was the signal. Old owners are dying and the kids don't GAS what happens with the house they inherited or the neighborhood of their youth.
Since then, the thugs have cleaned up their act and the house, two more houses, on my block, have sold to families that will increase their value and the value of the neighborhood.

Long term, yes. But short term will produce lower interest rates, probably juice the market, etc. It was the Fed's MO for the entire Obama administration. I expect them to go back to that playbook for 2024.
And I continue to believe that raising interest rates will have little affect on inflation. As JM points about above, inflation will continue to soar -- no matter what the Fed does -- until the government stops printing fake money.

So far Rota has stepped down as Speaker, not as an MP. That might change if the heat keeps getting cranked up. Wait and see. Liberals don't tend to fall on their swords though especially it it would threaten that life-long indexed-to-real-inflation pension that Parliament-Parasites get. Our family went there in 1972 or about and I do remember his grave being separate.

From what I remember from designer notes for a "war game" involving Canada's government and separatism its a bit of a mess but mostly parlimentarian with some features to placate the French speaker minority.
This was in the 70s and 80s though, they may have changed things.

I have seldom met anyone who understands the structure of the Canadian govt.
In Canada, voters do NOT have the opportunity to vote for or against that mini-dictator fathered by Castro. You get to vote for your representative ... and the winning party gets to select one of their number to be the PM.
So, Albertans never have the opportunity to get effective representation, since the entire eastern part of Canada has the vast majority of the population and they vote welfare/liberal.
