Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Pool Report Embarrasses Biden By Reporting What He Really SaidI don't mean a report about him swimming naked in his pool in front of his female Secret Service staff. I mean the press pool report, where one reporter dashes off a report about an event and all other reporters are permitted to quote that. From Beege Wellborn, an embarrassing anecdote, reported accurately.![]() The number of jobs added to the U.S. economy has been increasingly inflated by public sector positions as the economy begins to cool, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The 327,000 public jobs added for the year as of August 2023 made up 17.4% of total jobs added, while the proportion was only 5% after the U.S. added 175,000 public sector jobs during that same time frame in 2022, according to the BLS. The U.S. added a total of 3,590,000 jobs from the start of 2022 to that August, which is far greater than the 1,884,000 added during that time span in 2023. The U.S. added 187,000 nonfarm payroll jobs in August, while the unemployment rate shot up to 3.8%. The number of jobs added in June and July were both revised down from what was previously thought in August's job report, with the U.S. adding only 105,000 jobs in June compared to the 185,000 previously reported, and July adding 157,000 jobs instead of 187,000. The increase in government jobs has been accompanied by a rise in government spending, excluding COVID-19 stimulus measures, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis (FRED). In the first quarter of 2020, the federal government had an expenditure of about $4.88 trillion for the year period, while the second quarter of 2023 boasted a $6.48 trillion expenditure over the year. Economic growth is not as strong as previously thought after a revision to Gross Domestic Product in August led the BLS to update its estimate from 2.4% growth to 2.1%, coming more in line with original expectations of 2% growth for the economy. And on the topic of government locusts eating us out of house and home: Biden's attempting to make it illegal for any Republican president to fire his leftwing partisan #Resistance "employees." The Biden administration is setting a booby trap in case a Republican wins the presidency in 2024. On Friday, the White House unveiled a proposed rule that would make it even harder than in the past for an incoming Republican president to wrestle control of the left-leaning federal bureaucracy and actually implement the conservative policies promised to voters. Of the 2.2 million federal civil workers, only 4,000 are presidential appointees. The rest stay in their jobs, from one administration to the next, protected by rules that make it nearly impossible to discipline or replace them. They overwhelmingly favor the Left. A staggering 95% of unionized federal employees who donate to political candidates give to Democrats, according to Open Secrets. Only a tiny 5% support Republicans. Some federal workers in high positions slow-walk or even derail a Republican president's agenda -- and get away with it. Why bother to vote if the left-leaning deep state stays in charge no matter who wins the presidency? ... It's a gravy train, paid for by John Q. Public. That's sickening enough. But it's even worse when these civil "servants" put their own leftist leanings ahead of the president and public they're paid to serve. After Trump won in 2016, they went to town neutralizing him on almost every policy front, explains James Sherk, special assistant to the White House Domestic Policy Council under Trump. Career lawyers in the Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division flat out refused to challenge Yale University's discrimination against Asian American applicants. Trump had to recruit lawyers from other divisions. After Joe Biden became president, the DOJ dropped the case. But the same career lawyers who refused to sue Yale made the losing argument in support of affirmative action before the U.S. Supreme Court. Career health officials like Dr. Deborah Birx circumvented Trump's instructions to moderate COVID lockdowns. Environmental Protection Agency lawyers pursued cases against fossil fuel producers and withheld the information from Trump appointees. Trump mandated in a 2020 executive order that new federal buildings be designed to please the public, which prefers classical designs. Instead, General Services Administration architects chose modern designs they like. Trump mentioned as an example the San Francisco Federal Building, the ugliest edifice in the city. It goes on, including weaponization of the FBI against the president himself.

I had a meeting with a cow-worker who decided to randomly start gushing about the Biden-economy. Why yes she is max-vaxxed...how did you know? Anyway I reminded her a few days before our CEO told us no raises for this year because of how bad the economy was. And...she mentally froze up for a minute. The lies she had been told from the FNM were coming up against what she herself could see. I guided the discussion back to work...while I'm not sure how she handled it mentally I suspect she went on to tell people about how great the economy was...while buying less food at the grocery store because she's having to cut back... The fascinating thing about the Trump period is it was the first time in forever that the working/middle class did better comparatively then the elites. Yes, everyone made money, the the elites less. And it is interesting, under the GOPe generally everyone makes more money...but the elites do better. You never know where it's going next, or what speed it's traveling, or even if the thing is a real train at all, or some strange figment of the person's imagination, where trains are not trains, but magical dragon fairies that play olde tyme music when they flap their wings. This is sorta off topic and sorta on-topic. I was listening to a Team Coco podcast yesterday where Andy Richter was interviewing some 60ish punk musician I've never heard of. the musician is obviously a far left guy. But in college, he was a journo major and did a semester working at a small town newspaper.
He said that the internship put him off being a journalist b/c he saw that everyone had an agenda on what news got covered and how it got covered. Now, if you were to ask this guy whether the newsmedia is biased, I'll guarantee you he would give the usual lefty answer of "no" (or even the more ridiculous claim that it's biased against the left). But when he wasn't clearly watching what he was saying, he revealed the truth, even if he doesn't realize it. Of course there is an agenda as to what news gets covered and how it gets covered. How can there not be? Humans always have agendas. Posted by: I forgot my name b/c I haven't posted in 6 months at September 22, 2023 01:19 PM (ky+MF) 51

Severely Willowed: Moving To Make More Money. Today, I am as old as dirt. Tomorrow, I will actually be older than dirt.
Back in the Dark Ages when I first began working, "job hopping" was one of the greatest sins you could commit. If you worked for less than five years for your previous employer, quit of your own accord, then applied for the same job at a different company for more money, you were a "job hopper" and no other reputable company would hire you. Basically you were expected to stay with the same company your entire work life. But there was an unspoken bargain: you were loyal to your company and your company was loyal to you. Suddenly that changed. I started hearing "My company doesn't respect me and has no loyalty towards me, so why should I be loyal to them?" Move to another company in order to secure a promotion and/or a raise became the common wisdom. Frankly, I believe it was the companies that triggered this new attitude. On Friday, the White House unveiled a proposed rule that would make it even harder than in the past for an incoming Republican president to wrestle control of the left-leaning federal bureaucracy and actually implement the conservative policies promised to voters.
Ordinarily, this would be a nothingburger. Biden issues an executive order, and his Republican replacement undos the executive order. Simple. Of course, under the new legal theory promulgated by Hawaiian judges, Republican presidents are not allowed to undo executive orders issued by issued by Democratic presidents. Having a dog has become a luxury. I got an email today saying that my pet's health insurance is going from $41.50 per month to $59.00 per month. The email listed the following average costs: Ingesting a Foreign Body: $6,250; Leg Fracture: $5,400; Vomiting/Diarrhea: $1,550. More pets are being surrendered than ever. I’m guessing its just become too expensive for a lot of people. Just paid $80 to have my non- shedding dog trimmed. When we got him 5 years ago it was $45. A friend of mine lost her house to foreclosure because she took out a balloon loan to pay for the Horrendous Veterinary bills that put her in major debt. It was a house she inherited from her parents but she couldn’t make the final balloon payment. The house was sold in foreclosure for $400,000 and sold two months later for 1.5 million. She only owed $15,000 on the loan and couldn’t come up with the money. I started a medical savings account. I used to carry insurance for my crew of 5 dogs. We had dogs instead of having kids. You have Congress pass individual bills per department. You have Congress fund only X amount of staff per department. You make sure it's 10% less than they need. You, as president, sign those bills. Then, you have the president abide by those bills by implementing a reduction in force (RIF) manuever. Then, 2 years later, you pass bills to increase the workforce billets and selectively bring in conservatives to fill the 10% you still needed by putting more emphasis on certain things - like a vet's only hiring pool. This isn't hard - this just isn't wanted by anyone. Yep. Every item on the nominal R agenda could have been implemented in 2004 or 2016. The GOPe didn't want to. After all, if the economy WERE great, then of course you'd bring it up every single day. The rest of the Democrats understand that its just a lie. When Obama ran for his 2nd term, he understood that it was all a lie, and that they had lied about the numbers just enough to get him under the fabled 8% unemployment. That said, it'd be dead easy to: 1. Move their office to Minot, North Dakota. 2. Strip them of all duties other than de-stapling stacks of un-classified documents, prior to them being sent to the shredder's. 3. Ensure that the 'puter on their desk connects ONLY to their Agency's internal comms. NO connection to the wider Internet need be established. 4. Gaetz was on Timcast last nite talking about the single spending bill alternative to the continuing resolution BS. He gave a good pitch, but my question is why have they sat on the 12 or whatever SSBs until the last minute? Congress should be working on those spending bills throughout the year, not leaving them to the last minute like a high school term project. The net result is the same as the CR BS: govt shutdown drama.

The "fine people" on both sides referred to by DJT were those pro- and con- removing Confederate statues. Any "white supremacists" he expressly "condemned utterly." To imply that Trump was supporting any "Nazis" who were there (probably quite few, and feds themselves, but another issue) was not only a blatant lie at the time, but was followed by many, widely publicized reports of the context. Federal government went from merit based - requiring specific qualifications & education - positions, and in which 5 or 10 point veterans who were qualified could not be skipped over to one heck of a lot of direct hiring.
In the early 1980s, "rifs" were routinely threatened, base-realignments targeted, field agencies moved. To shore up the Social Security system & reduce costs through broadening, a new Federal retirement system that included a 401(k) type plan was created by Congress. Position 'certifications' separation - '5 or 10 point qualified veterans' appearing on a hiring certification & other "qualified" personnel appearing on another - became common. Ergo, the certificate with qualified veterans could be ignored. In the 2000s "name requests" by mgm from those listed on on a regular qualification certificate became common. No longer experience, education, time-in-grade; then promises & favors moved people into jobs and up-the-line. Another O& Joe trick was making almost every new position requiring a Masters or PhD, the latter even for entry for lower level grades that could become a ladder into higher grades. All union approved; all 'cleaning house.' Posted by: L - Practice makes perfect. They know their enemies at September 22, 2023 01:58 PM (GshMh) 304

Very simple concept. A Government creates nothing of value, except Order. Everything else it spends money on, is a net negative to the economy. It creates no goods... grows no food... and constantly puts controlling road blocks up to innovation. Everything a Government does, even road building itself, could be accomplished much cheaper.
Now, combined Local, State, and Fed, spending is WELL north of 40% of the GDP. That means 40% of all money spent, is creating nothing... and with 3% inflation now baked into the economic system (cashless society means most transactions now enable fractional lending, which drives inflation)... the government spending will continue to grow MUCH faster than any economic growth there to support it.
