Burisma's Devon Archer Met With Then-Secretary-of-State Kerry Just As Biden Was Ordering Ukraine to Fire Viktor Shokin

Hunter Biden's former business partner and fellow Burisma board member, Devon Archer, met with then-Secretary of State John Kerry just weeks before the Ukrainian prosecutor who was investigating Burisma was fired in 2016.
Former Ukrainian Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin was fired on March 29, 2016, less than four weeks after Archer met with Kerry at the State Department in Washington, D.C., according to a State Department email.
"Devon Archer coming to see S today at 3:00pm -- need someone to meet/greet him at C Street," reads the redacted email on March 2, 2016, which was previously released via the Freedom of Information Act.
Fox News Digital can confirm that "S" refers to Kerry, based on multiple other email communications. However, it is unclear what Archer and Kerry discussed at the meeting or whether Burisma came up in conversation.
At the time of the meeting, Archer and Hunter Biden had been sitting on the board of Burisma for about two years, and then-Vice President Joe Biden had recently wrapped up a trip to Ukraine where he threatened to withhold $1 billion in U.S. aid if Ukrainian officials didn't fire Shokin, claiming he was too lax on prosecuting corruption.
When the email was first released in 2019, Sens. Grassley, R-Iowa and Johnson, R-Wis., expressed concerns about the meeting and sent a letter to then-Secretary of State Pompeo requesting all records from the meeting in addition to other meeting, including Hunter's 2015 meeting with Blinken.

Hey -- let's get David Weiss to investigate this. He's been a real Clouseau so far.

Or maybe not, writes Jonathan Turley:

House Republicans had previously demanded that Weiss and his team answer questions about the investigation and the plea bargain. And an appearance before a House committee was planned when Garland suddenly preempted that by doing what many of us have demanded for years: He appointed a special counsel. To the amazement of many, though, he appointed the one prosecutor who should have been categorically excluded -- David Weiss.
Section 600.3 of the DOJ's code on special counsels requires an appointment from outside the Justice Department, for obvious reasons. While another prior special counsel, John Durham, also came from within the Justice Department, Durham was retiring from the department at the time of his appointment. Not only did Garland have to ignore his own regulations to appoint Weiss but he also had to ignore the main qualification: The appointed outside counsel should be someone with "a reputation for integrity and impartial decision-making."
Weiss could well have a legitimate defense to Republican complaints that he ran a fixed investigation into Hunter or accusations that he made false statements to his own team. However, he clearly remains under suspicion by many people. That is reflected in an ABC News/Ipsos poll in which almost half of Americans lack trust that the DOJ will conduct the Hunter Biden investigation in a "fair and nonpartisan manner."
In addition to this controversial appointment, Garland again refused to expressly extend the special counsel's mandate to include influence-peddling allegations involving President Biden.
Even some liberal pundits are mystified by these moves and why Garland would not simply appoint someone in compliance with the regulations who could guarantee a new and full investigation.
So Weiss is now investigating crimes that continue to dwindle in number due to the long delays in prosecution. It is like waiting for winter to go goose hunting in Canada, long after the geese have flown South. Everyone just gets dressed up and fires aimlessly into an empty sky.

The fact that Weiss can't answer simple questions without checking in with Merrick Garland casts doubt on Weiss' claim that he had "ultimate authority" in charging Hunter.

Delaware US Attorney David Weiss consulted Justice Department officials about congressional requests for information regarding his five-year-long investigation of Hunter Biden, challenging the prosecutor's own signed statements that he had "ultimate authority" to bring charges against the first son.
Weiss's office traded emails with the DOJ's Office of Legislative Affairs and Office of Legal Counsel about how to respond to questions posed by House Republicans about the case, according to emails obtained by the conservative Heritage Foundation and viewed by The Post Monday.
The heavily-redacted messages show officials at main Justice offered to "take the lead" from Weiss in drafting responses to GOP lawmakers who brought up Hunter's case.

Heritage's Oversight Project, which sued the DOJ to obtain the messages as part of a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request, claims that they undercut Weiss' statement in a June 7, 2023, letter to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) that he was given "ultimate authority" to bring charges in the case.
"It's insane that we needed a judicial order to produce a few documents after months and months of the Department of Justice throwing every roadblock they possibly could, at the taxpayers' expense of course," Oversight Project director Mike Howell told The Post. "They hadn't even turned these documents over to Congress, who asked for them at the same time we did."
"Now we know why they were fighting the release: the claims of Weiss' independence were a sham," he added. "Garland's political lobbyists were controlling congressional communications to the Hill, while the Hill thought they were going to be hearing from Weiss himself."
The disclosures were first reported by The Federalist.

He had Delegated Ultimate Authority (DUA). DUA is different from UA, as it gives the possessor of DUA unlimited ability to enforce the decisions of the UA.

Mentioned in JJs thread this morning, but police reports detailing election fraud aren't public record. Every other police report is, and they're released every day so that anyone who wants to read them can look and see what's happening or any reporters can report on them.

But police reports on voter fraud are not released, and they require FOIA requests to see. Which requires knowledge of the event to request.

Fraud is noticed, reported to police, police involve state police and AG, FBI (who handles voter fraud) is contacted and takes over. Case disappears.

I think the argument he's making is what a lot of us have said. Prior to 2016, Russia was our "close ally." If you recall, Mitt Romney was laughed at when he said Russia was our biggest geopolitical threat in 2012. Obama said "the 1980's called and they want their foreign policy back."

Hillary had brought a reset button to Russia. We were all chummy. We made some sternly worded statements over Russia's Georgia and Crimea moves, but that was it.

Until Trump made an off-handed joke about Russia having Hillarys emails -- then all of a sudden Putin was literally Hitler, the dossier was born, etc. etc. and eventually the military industrial complex found a new place to make their billions (Ukraine / Russia.)

Now -- I know that there is a lot more to the story then that, but I'm pretty sure that's the basic of Jimmy Dores argument.

You think a Democratic Senate is going to remove Biden? I would not be surprised that the Senate Dems refuse to even bring it to the floor.

An impeachment inquiry is useful in some respects as to prying information out from the DoJ and the other executive departments because it removes the ongoing investigation ruse. But a very thin GOP majority might just vote not to impeach in the first place either in committee or on the floor.

Once again, two thirds of the Senate, which means 18 Democrat senators have to vote with all 49 GOP senators to remove. That includes Murcow and Susan Collins in ME. So, the House might impeach the executive officials but the Senate is unlikely to vote to remove them.

The Framers themselves were divided over whether to include impeachment as a power and the Convention was meeting as one of the last British impeachments by Parliament was ongoing. The last two British impeachments resulted in no removal from office and the Brits consider that part of their unwritten constitution dead.

Impeachment now is just a threat to honor, not of being removed from office.

That's the issue. The GOP never acts on these items. So they continue to say "it's not who we are" while our finances are getting wiped out, a former president in being arrested, and the left does whatever it wants.

I think a fair resolution would be to treat student loans similar to how *we* were treated when getting loans and scholarships.

Needs based.

So the schools who can afford it should be responsible for a large percentage / all of their former students' debts.

And the schools that can't can get some help from the federal government or whatever.

It's infuriating that many colleges are sitting on hundreds of millions / billions of dollars, acting like tax free mini hedge funds, while screwing over both their students and the tax payers.

And screwing over adjuncts, and basically anyone who isn't high up in administration or a tenured professor.

Like any other loan, if the borrower defaults, seize the asset. In this case, you revoke the diploma. If someone claims on an application that they're a graduate, and the employer checks with the school and it's revoked, the can deny the hire (or terminate a current employee).

It stops the Senate from considering other business if the President is impeached until impeachment trial is over. Doesn't do that for the house nor the Senate if someone other than the president is being impeached. The House uses a committee system for impeachment (usually the Judiciary) and the Senate uses a special committee to review evidence and report back to the whole body except if the one being impeached is the president.

I'd go one step further, and enforce a final due date on the loan. If the student can't pay back the loan in 10-15 years, the school can repossess the diploma, and the school has to pay the balance.

Doesn't do that for the house nor the Senate if someone other than the president is being impeached. The House uses a committee system for impeachment (usually the Judiciary) and the Senate uses a special committee to review evidence and report back to the whole body except if the one being impeached is the president.

A Master's is not a bad idea for a lot of industries. It does open a lot of doors. Ironically, a Ph.D. can close a lot of doors. (and open others, of course)

Many companies are starting to move to "equivalent experience" as a good measure if you can demonstrate you know what you are talking about.

This is why you don't run off half-cocked to an impeachment. The Clinton impeachment was done rather well, but the Senators, especially the Democrats, treated it like a joke (Dick Durbin comes to mind).

Both impeachments of Trump were jokes. They were so rushed, they were trying to figure out which articles of impeachment should be used the night before the vote. Even then, they often chose badly. Most of the articles were unclear and poorly written as to render them pointless and ignored in the proceedings.

The Dems haven't done that yet aside from a few precincts but that may be coming. What they do is dump a bunch of absentee ballots that obscure where those ballots actually come from to get their winning margin.

Trump did this a lot and it's amazing he was successful at all. The Abraham Accords (rejecting the "Middle East Peace Plan" dogma we've had since Carter), the China sanctions (rejecting the "free trade at all costs" dogma), encouraging domestic energy production (rejecting the "energy is bad because weather" dogma), etc. He had some success, which is fairly surprising.

But he got stymied hard on anything domestic, especially on corruption, law and the like. On the wars front, he got ignored completely.

The only issue that mattered at that point was immigration; and that's one of the hills the ruling class will defend at all costs, because ethnic cleansing of the white population is essential to their planned utopia of total state control.

Candidate Trump was the only one to raise the issue even half seriously, and President Trump completely failed to deliver on it. And now it's too late in any case, because the demographic destruction of Western nations is already baked into the cake even if you could magically reduce immigration to zero today.
