You were kind enough to post a picture of my passed Yorkie, Sparky, a few weeks ago. Well, here is our new dog of 3 days, Zooey. Rather than aHow great that you found a rescue. Hope that Zooey settles in quickly to a wonderful life with you. My dog Zuko has been featured a few times on the pet thread. He is getting on in years, now. Recently, on our afternoon walks, he has taken to resting for few minutes beside the creek below our house. I believe he's looking for that bridge that gets mentioned here from time to time. I will continue enjoying our time together until he finds it. RogerWhat a sweet friendship. Zuko, Roger's buddy. I've shared my wire-haired doxies (Bingo and Eli) but had to share new pup with all pet morons. Never heard of a MOYEN POODLE but this is Virga. She's 5 months old and a pure bred Moyen Poodle. Not a "doodle", not a Standard but bigger than the miniature poodle. She's a wonderful girl and I will likely never want another dachshund. She's friendly, big enough to go for walks, not too big and still doesn't shed. Meets all my criteria for my season of life! The "boys" aren't sure about her but she's growing on them! Lori in South DakotaVirga looks attentive and friendly! Thanks for sharing her great photo with us. What a wonderful collection of dogs and cats today 1 Thank you for sharing your pets with us. We have a little mostly-poodle, but Virga looks bigger than him. He's a little more than 20 pounds. I don't know how big a miniature poodle is.

Wonderful pets this week!
Mr Troubles has been returned to the wild. He did okay at the vets, where he got an antibiotic shot for his foot. Started feeling better and then wanted out. By Thursday, he wasmaking Jake and Fanny upset, so I let him out. He didn't do too badly for his short stay. He still comes over to be fed and thinks of this as his yard. Delilah's daughters have won the triple crown. Ruth has a torn ligament in her left front toe. Diana has a torn muscle in her right thigh. And out in California, Rosalind has torn a muscle in her left shoulder. When it rains, it pours. Meanwhile, Mama is at 788 points, just 12 away from achieving her Platinum level grand championship, which only five Borzoi have ever achieved. She is off in a couple of weeks to Minnesota. Four shows, including two specialties. And from the published entry there are 5 points to win each day. Wish her luck. Posted by: Hadrian the Seventh at August 12, 2023 03:35 PM (MoZTd) 16

So update on the goings on at Shep's. We had to put old Charlie down as his quality of life was not good and we didn't want him to suffer. He was our longest resident at 2 years. He was a good boy and will be missed. Mars got adopted! So another success story for Shep's. So we now have Dutch, Hope, Roscoe, Lily, Boomer, Elmer, Audrey and Carmi. Praying that Dutch is next to be adopted. He's so sweet!

Afternoon, all! So Mineola is the kitten that "found" Mrs. E on the trip to the shelter last week? A very pretty girl. Looks like she may be good-sized as an adult, if those ears are any indication. My late Arizona looked something like that as a kitten, and I, not knowing about longhaired cats then, thought his coat was merely kitten fuzzies and he'd outgrow it. What he outgrew was being small!

Ruby the Magnificent was back to the ER Vet again Thursday night. This time they diagnosed a sprained neck. She has been in a lot of pain, and she yanks her head to the left and then walks in circles when it's bad. She had cried all afternoon, so off to the vet we went. Now she's on painkillers and muscle relaxants, so she's about as high as a kite. Xrays said the bones are fine. It's been three weeks including the impacted grass in her larynx--she seems to be having a rotten month all around, and therefore, so have I.

As I mentioned on an earlier thread this morning, one or both of the Killer Kittens From Outer Space, Dagny and Stirling, have torn out a section of my living room blinds. I've pulled the blinds up higher than I like in the summer so they can sit and look out; there was no reason for them to paw at the slats. But one or both of them has. Now my place looks just all the other aspiring-to-be-a-ghetto windows around here. Dammit.

One more thing about the MiniKat, does not have hair like a shorthair cat. It's like two coats of wool or something, long top coat and shorter lighter cream color undercoat. It took forever to get wet to bathe her, then no time at all to dry her. She's a woolycat.

I was fortunate in that Stirling, despite his long car trip from the shelter, was not nervous and was instead quite confident when he bounced out of the carrier. Dagny was good too, though I think she had a little bit of an infection and was a bit under the weather at first.

I had bought hummingbird nectar for the feeder. It bragged it had no additives like dyes and was completely clear. It took forever the nectar to be consumed. Next batch I added some red food coloring and the hummingbirds are sucking it up like liquid gold. I also learned that if you add lemon juice, it delays spoilage.
I also saw a Cooper's hawk today as I was out filling feeders and playing with the dogs. That's a fairly rare event. Posted by: Anonosaurus Wrecks, Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? at August 12, 2023 05:07 PM (FVME7) 68

My mother had a "livernose" brown poodle in the late 60's who 'would have been' a purebred miniature, but grew just a smidge too tall for showing, and so her poodle-breeder friend made a gift of him. I'm not a fan of the poodle culture, but neither was he. He had a lot of smarts, and a hound temperament, so is well remembered. Her other poodle was a toy, and a royal pain. "Cute though."

Completely unaware that their butler is contemplating trading them for a guinea pig or maybe a lizard, Dagny and Stirling are keeping him company: Dagny spread on the cushion next to me and Stirling curled atop the sofa back.
It's odd. Nearly every evening after dinner, they get rambunctious and gallop everywhere (and in my postage stamp of a place, there is very little "where"). But last Wednesday, they were quiet and spent most of the evening napping. This has happened before. The difference at first glance is that on Wednesday evenings, Linda does not come over and I rarely turn on the TV. Is it possible they are showing off for her, or are jazzed up by the sounds from the TV? More research needed. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at August 12, 2023 05:14 PM (omVj0) 74

Doggeh is frequently known as Big Dumdum
Posted by: vmom stabby stabby stabby stabby stabamillion at August 12, 2023 05:09 PM (5NMQ1) Haha, I add (stupid) nicknames constantly . I called my dog "dumdum" too shortly after we got her. That went to Tom Tom (close to some Vietnamese from a computer game) -> Thomas Thomas -> She Thomas Howl (C. Thomas Howell) -> She Thomas -> She Tomasina -> Tomasita, with some of those forking off, each one more ridiculous than the last. And that's just the thread starting from dumdum. Sometimes I forget, and ask myself "How the hell did I start calling her Sausalita, beyond it being a sort of feminine Sausalito? I can't remember". She's not even two, she'll probably have hundreds probably through her (hopefully long) life. And I keep using most of them. I'm a strange person when it comes to pets. If we take one in while friends are on vacation, they leave with multiple new nicknames. You'd think it would confuse the hell out of them, but the dogs that I've owned seem to know I'm talking to them, must be the tone in my voice. Too bad winter isn't one of those times. She would love that. Posted by: Pug Mahon, Missing the Point at August 12, 2023 05:31 PM (T/Lqj) Posted by: polynikes at August 12, 2023 05:31 PM (MNhXM) 81

74 ... "Poodles just kick ass.
Absolutely. Mrs. JTB is allergic to most dog breeds and deathly allergic to cats, so we started out with poodles which are hypoallergenic. They have all been great. Our new rescue Bichon is in the same category. She is basically a poodle in a slightly different body. Posted by: JTB at August 12, 2023 05:33 PM (7EjX1) 83
Haha, I add (stupid) nicknames constantly .

Poodles certainly kick ass
We have a big lean black Standard who is 70 lbs. His name is Big Poodle. He loves chasing squirrels. He is our second Poodle, we had a Miniature Poodle for 13 years, she was a gentle soul. Posted by: pchuckles at August 13, 2023 12:32 AM (KspwL) Processing 0.01, elapsed 0.0227 seconds. |
