Mitch McConnell Now Has a "Biden Moment" That Looks Like a Neurological Episode

I do not mean any disrespect to our elders, but we must end the Perpetual Gerontocracy in the Senate.

And Mitch McConnell has to be the first to go.

McConnell says he merely "felt light-headed" and is all better now.

Sure.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell told reporters that he's "fine," after freezing during a news conference on Wednesday.

McConnell, a Kentucky Republican, stopped speaking in the middle of remarks at his regularly scheduled weekly news conference on Capitol Hill. After a 30-second pause, his colleagues crowded around to see if he was OK and asked him how he felt. GOP Sen. John Barrasso of Wyoming was seen gripping McConnell's arm and whispered to him, "Hey Mitch, anything else you want to say? Or should we just go back to your office? Do you want to say anything else to the press?"

He said nothing, and was led away from the press conference and towards his office by an aide. He returned to the news conference a few minutes later.

McConnell, asked by CNN what happened and if it is related to his fall earlier this year, said "No, I'm fine," and then moved on to other reporters.

A McConnell aide said that the senator "felt light headed and stepped away for a moment."

That's from CNN.

Nice of them to notice an elderly politician is having neurological problems and might not be fit for the job.

Wonder when they'll notice Joe Biden's dementia.

"I'm fine," McConnell says, and refuses to say more about his episode.

Incidentally, Kentucky has a Democrat governor. So if Mitch McConnell dies or has to resign, the Democrat appoints his replacement.

The legislature anticipated this and passed a law over the governor's veto that he could only pick a replacement from a list of candidates submitted by the (Republican) legislature, but Bashear says that's unconstitutional and will ignore it.

This could have been avoided if McConnell had retired last time. Or the time before that.

But they never do. They cling to power like dehydrated ticks. It's only the power that sustains these husks.

Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at July 26, 2023 03:23 PM (t0OGg)

A transient ischemic attack (TIA) is a temporary period of symptoms similar to those of a stroke. A TIA usually lasts only a few minutes and doesn't cause permanent damage. Often called a ministroke, a TIA may be a warning. About 1 in 3 people who has a TIA will eventually have a stroke, with about half occurring within a year after the TIA.

195 I guess the power and money is the juice for these types of people. Does McConnell enjoy a day out on a lake fishing, camping, snow skiing, flying a plane, hunting, traveling? Why you would stay so long in politics like this when you could be out enjoying other more meaningful things is beyond me. But I do know workaholics and people who enjoy chasing a buck and that is their thing in life. Staying in something like this til' you're .0001% away from keeling over on television to me would be embarrassing.

256 The deal in Kentucky regarding McConnell, if he has to step down or croaks is like this; Bashear is the governor, a democrat. The KY constitution says if a member of congress dies, or resigns his/her office for whatever reason the governor must choose a person off a list provided by the party currently holding the congressional office.

Bashear says it's unconstitutional (Kentucky's constitution) and will ignore it.

If it comes to this I foresee a lengthy legal fight. It would almost be better to keep McConnell in office, hidden away until the next election... like the Democrats are doing with DiFi, Fettermonster, etc.

Mitch worked with GOPe in Kentucky to take out GOP Gov. Matt Bevin in 2019 who ran against McConnell in the GOP primary. Think Beshears is done though in 2023 as his reelection coalition has shrunk quite a bit. Incidentally, in Mitch's reelection, there were some interesting anomalies in voting patterns in some counties.

That would just end up leading to the creation of little non-profits with local addresses in every district that gets money filtered through them. There is no law that is going to "fix" the money issues in politics. We've already seen this year how ActBlue uses registered voters as cutouts without their knowledge to filter money to their campaigns.

And the more time goes on, the less I'm convinced that actual monetary investment in elections has serious effects that outweigh facts on the ground.

495 Used to do empirical work about that. The relationship (at least in the 90's through McCain Feingold) was that the relationship between money and campaign victory is non linear. My results from same party primaries and general elections at the time indicated that perhaps the relationship was a cubic function---basically a certain amount of money is necessary to get in the game which is also probably correlated with district political support anyway, then the relationship between money spent and a chance of victory goes negative until you reach a point where gobs and gobs of money like Corzine v. Franks in NJ or Michael Huffington for a CA congressional seat buy you the election in effect and the relationship becomes positive again.

This was also before widespread electronic voting platforms though.

520 I'm making $90 an hour working from home. I never imagined that it was honest to goodness yet my closest companion is earning sixteen thousand US dollars a month by working on the connection, that was truly astounding for me, she prescribed for me to attempt it simply. Everybody must try this job now by just using this website... www.Payathome7.com

521 I can honestly state that I don't feel anything at this news.

McConnell has been a truly loathsome person over the last twenty-plus years, going out of his way to wreck real conservative candidates of both the Tea Party and MAGA.

He not only has sabotaged careers but damaged the personal reputations of those he deemed a threat to his hold on power in the Senate, with zero remorse for his actions. He is a despicable man and one hopes he has his comeuppance. Despite all that, I can't wish death on someone. Even him.
But Mitch certainly doesn't get a penny of my sympathy.

Just saying.
