The Sound of Freedom Beats Indiana Jones On the Fourth of July

A huge win and an equally huge loss.

Angel Studios' "Sound of Freedom," an action thriller exposing the child sex slave trade featuring "Passion of the Christ" actor Jim Caviezel, sold more tickets heading into its opening day July 4 than the blockbuster wannabe "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny."

"As exciting that it is to hit the number 1 spot for this summer opening, it doesn't even come close to the excitement that the number means for awareness of this issue," Jordan Harmon, co-owner of Angel Studios, told The Daily Signal in a phone interview Wednesday.

"Sound of Freedom" topped the charts with $14.3 million in ticket sales at 2,634 theaters on the Fourth of July, according to Box Office Mojo. "Indiana Jones" came in second with $11.7 million at 4,600 theaters. Disney's "Elemental," with $2.8 million at 3,650 theaters, was a distant third.

...

"Sound of Freedom" tells the story of Tim Ballard (Caviezel), a former agent at the Department of Homeland Security who rescued hundreds of children from sex slavery. Ballard has warned that the Biden administration's border policy and its transgender ideology aid and abet the evils of the global child sex slave trade. As an actor, Caviezel has spoken out against the legacy media for burying such important issues.

Here it is in Red, White, and Blue, From The Numbers:

thenumberssoundoffreedom.jpg

I got that from WDW_Pro's video about this stunning defeat for Disney.

By the way, the movie's budget was around $14 million. It's already made more than that. (That doesn't mean it's already profitable because marketing cost $5 million and of course theaters take their cut, but also obviously: It will be profitable, starting sometime this afternoon. Bang, there it is -- it just started making a profit.)

Some media outlets aren't giving Sound of Freedom the win, because only $11.5 million of those ticket sales went to tickets actually used on Tuesday, July 4. The other $2+ million in tickets were bought for later use, or to give to other people.

But in what world has Hollywood ever used when a ticket was used to reduce box office? For crying out loud, they're counting Indiana Jones' Thursday sales as part of its Friday box office.

This seems like a fake "rule" being deployed just to avoid acknowledging that Indiana Jones dropped out of first place in its fifth day of release, beaten by a small-budget thriller about a DHS officer hunting pedophiles and rescuing trafficked children.

Oh, and as I mentioned in the sidebar: This movie had been shelved for five years, and was only released at all because the producers raised enough money through crowdfunding to release it.

And which Hollywood studio shelved this box office winner...?

Why, the Groomer Corporation Disney, of course!

"Originally produced by Fox International and later shelved by Disney..."

Why would this Groomer Corporation shelve a potential sleeper blockbuster anti-Groomer movie?

Huh, it's a Mystery that will never be solved. Like who smuggled Hunter Biden's cocaine into the White House.

The Guardian is hysterical in denouncing the movie:

seducingamerica.jpg

You sold me, Guardian. I've got my tickets for Saturday.

In further Disney Magic news, the transgender star of Disney Minus' upcoming Star Wars tv show, The Acolyte, has an interesting prior credit: assisting the British government in conducting Covid Panic psyops.

'Star Wars: The Acolyte' Actor Reportedly Part Of British Psy-Op To "Achieve A Measurable Cognitive Shift In The Target Audience"

John F. Trent
July 3, 2023

Actor Oliver Thorn, who pretends to be a woman and uses the name Abigail Thorn and plays an upcoming character in The Acolyte Disney+ series, is reportedly connected to a British psy-op that was funded by King Charles before he ascended to the throne.

Kit Klarenberg and Max Blumenthal at The Grayzone reportedly obtained documents from an organization called Valent Projects that received funding from the United Kingdom's The Royal Institution, whose top patron was King Charles before he became king. Their report also notes that "Valent has also been sponsored by the US Agency for International Development (USAID), a US intelligence cut-out, for a project aimed at 'investigating disinformation.'"

The documents also note that Valent Projects planned to "design a 'mass appeal social media campaign fronted and owned by prominent social media figure Abigail Thorn.'" The campaign, called Challenging Pseudoscience, was specifically aimed at skeptics and those who outright objected the regime's policy on COVID-19. They planned to use Thorn "to achieve a measurable cognitive shift in the target audience."

The program was announced by the company on LinkedIn as Countering Pseudoscience and confirmed their arrangement with The Royal Institution, "COUNTERING PSEUDOSCIENCE: Valent will be working with the The Royal Institution to better understand why pseudoscience -- a common theme in disinformation campaigns and justification for discrimination -- can be so appealing, and use that knowledge to develop effective responses."

A former staffer for Valent Projects, Hamish Faloner, also noted that the organization was receiving money from George Soros' Open Society Foundations group.

...

An alleged screenshot of Valent's program states, "Valent Projects is proposing a two-phase project designed to curb the influence of pseudoscience material online, with specific emphasis on Coronavirus-related 'anti-vaxxing' sentiment. The project ultimately seeks to develop an understanding of the psychological drivers behind the generation and spread of anti-vaxxer narratives, which will also be relevant to broader pseudoscience narratives, and can use this understanding to develop and test public messaging responses."

Even industry shill Variety has given up its main job of claiming that all of Disney's failures are actually successes, Bigot:

disneyharshnewreality.jpg

Bob Iger is angling to extend his contract. He was supposed to just be a caretaker CEO, passing the torch next year, but now, with all of his bombs blowing up at once, he wants to hang around longer to destroy more shareholder value:

Evan
@StockMKTNewz

22h

Disney $DIS CEO Bob Iger is reportedly likely to seek a contract extension beyond his current one which expires in December of next year -- Fox Business

Meanwhile, Pitch Meeting took on Disney's latest disaster.

Midnight's Edge explains the situation, noting that Disney wanted to "bury" the film, but was willing to sell it when Angel Distributors made an offer:

Of all the movies that Disney didn't want to lose to...

At Disney's shareholder meeting in early August, Bob Iger is going to have to answer a lot of tough questions, and among them will be a new one: Why did you put your Groomer Politics above making shareholders money by keeping and releasing the hit Sound of Freedom?

And on July 12, Mission Impossible opens, which will end Indiana Jones' box office run.

Check out this review. There's a lot of blabbing early on but I've cued it to the actual review.

Another ecstatic review from Grace Rudolph.

If anyone wants to see the film in IMAX, you have to get tickets early. Tom Cruise was trying to get theaters to keep Mission:Impossible in IMAX and other premium screens for another week, but most movie theaters are going to show Oppenheimer on their best screens when that comes out. So I think Wednesday the 19th will be most people's last chance to see it on a premium screen.

I think there are only two explanations for the PizzaGate story;

1) The people behind Epstein knew publicity was coming and throw a fake scandal out there so people would confuse them. Note: this is happening, leftists freely conflate the two now pretending Epstein was fake news...

2) Some white hat knew some of the Epstein story but didn't have all the details right.

Based on where we are now I think it is #1. There aren't any white hats willing to take risks in the nat sec area and certainly not the people running compromat rings like Epstein.

A lot of dangerous cults with long-documented criminal histories are perfectly in the open and so is, by and large, Scientology.

Cruise learned how to shut up and make the movies and thus make the money. He used to talk about Scientology back in the 90s or early aughts, IIRC, but he realized that people didn't like it and so decided to shut up and sing.

That reasoning is demonic.

I saw an interview with Tim Ballard describing the actual event. (On tube of you, I forget the name of the show) The kids ranged in age from 6 to 15. One child had been there since he was an infant. He was 8. But sure, call it consensual.

"[Indiana Jones]: a franchise which no longer appears to have the same hold on today's audiences."

Are you kidding? By all means -- go watch the first Raiders, then run to the theater and watch the anti-patriarchy, soulless, girl-power, time-traveling CGI-fest that is currently offered. Here's a thought: franchises don't hold audiences, compelling stories do. Too bad for Disney; there's zero imagination in-house.

Bang, there it is -- it just started making a profit.)

I thought the default estimate for break-even calculation was either budget x3 or (budget + marketing) x2. Since I think the studio earns a 50% take in USA and 40% take international and 10% take in China.

So if budget was $14mil, then the break-even point is a total gross of ~$42mil. Or ($14 + $5 marketing) x2 = ~$38mil.

Has "Sound of Freedom" reached $38-$42mil total gross?

If their marketing is $5 million like Ace says, that's a $20 million total cost. The average take of ticket sales from theaters is 40%, so the math would actually be $20/.6 = $33 million.

Theaters may take more since Angel isn't Disney (Disney takes a whole lot in first weekends), so it may end up being about $38 million to break even.

It's currently at $18 million, and, assuming business is decent through the weekend, it could get there by Monday.

Contracts vary from distributor to distributor and even from movie to movie. Early weeks, when films make the most money, are weighted towards the distributors (Disney's tend to be about 90% of ticket sales, others don't get that good), and they get more in favor of theaters the longer they're in theaters.

We have zero strategic interests in Ukraine. The one country that does rely heavily on food exports from that country is China and the war with Russia is disrupting those food shipments to China and the European Union.

Now just exactly why would we want to go to war with Russia to help China import more food?

I assume that "Sound of Freedom", and everyone involved with it, is eliminated from consideration from any Hollywood awards, because of the D.E.I. and LGBTQ requirements in place for all movies to be eligible for awards. That's not hyperbole. The awards organizations do actually have new special D.E.I. and LGBTQ qualifications to meet in order to be eligible for awards.

The bill that was before Democratic Governor Tony Evers authorized $325-per-student annual spending increase "for the 2023-24 school year and the 2024-25 school year." Evers, himself a former teacher and state school superintendent, slashed the 20 and the hyphen from the 2025-25, thus making it refer to the year 2425 (if man is still alive).

Drinking is limited now.

That's one of many problems with young children. They can't handle their liquor.

386 368...Gibson has been talking about making a sequel for years. Talk is kind of heightened at the moment because Caviezel is doing interviews, and the latest sounds like Gibson is aiming for some kind of 2-part thing.

What I read (somewhere) was the next installment of the series was going to be what happened on Saturday...what the Orthodox call "the Harrowing of Hell."

Also, it's fucking awful.

I'm with you on the second part at least.

I just....don't see the spark of genius in John Boorman.

390 You KNOW Tim Ballard is going to take flak… he definitely has colored outside the lines by taking on the big business of sex slavery. BAMN indeed, in his case…

391 Per imdb, The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection is in pre-production with Caviezel reprising his role. Slated for 2024. Randal Wallace, who wrote Braveheart, is doing the script with Mel.

Expansion of NATO, in that case missiles in Poland, Romania, Poland and Turkey.

This entire idiotic war is about NATO expansion further eastward after decades of NATO telling Russia we would not expand eastward. And our excuse was to prevent against, wait for it, a war with Russia.

Our entire foreign policy establishment is full of fuming idiots, war mongers and people on defense contractors payrolls.

404 At my local theater for tonight here in Las Cruces, NM. 8:30p The Sound of Freedom is @ 76/105, while Indy 5 @ 610p is 29/72 and @ 9:30p is 4/105. LC is pretty typical 125k city so I no reason to think these stats are atypical.

What were the psychological drivers behind the PRO-vaccine totalitarian mindset?

Has anyone investigated that?
