DeSantis Announces: "I Am Running For President... Governing Is Not About Entertainment. It's Not About Building a Brand. It's About Delivering."

DeSantis will announce his bid for the presidency at 6pm on Twitter.

New link.

NEW LINK: I added a YouTube simulcast of the announcement. It's under the fold.

And the leftwing #ResistanceMedia is accepting this in a calm, dispassionate matter.

VANITY FAIR
@VanityFair

DeSantis is set to announce his 2024 White House bid in conversation with a guy who, among other things, has made Twitter a safe haven for hate speech.

vanityfairlystupid.jpg

r2401
@liliiilllliiili

Are they saying desantis is duke or musk is duke

I don't think they've even thought about it enough to say. The important thing is just having the name "David Duke" in the vicinity of the other two.

Katherine Brodsky
@mysteriouskat

This is in the "news" section of Vanity Fair--a paper I had once dreamt of writing for. And I'm appalled.

Note phrases like: "David Duke Wasn't Available" & "Other Neo-Nazi sympathizers weren't available." These are words being thrown around wildly and irresponsibly--like little verbal assassins. Target: One's reputation.

This article belongs in the 'Slander Op-Ed section,' certainly not the news section. One is entitled to criticize the decision, as the story's author Bess Levin has. Even I have had expressed some hesitation today because I think this move puts Twitter in the path of being an editorial media platform as opposed to just being the public town square. Further, there's been previous support expressed by Musk/Sacks for DeSantis in the past, so there's a perception of possible bias. But to compare Elon Musk to an actual white supremacist and a former Grand Wizard of the KKK/neo-Nazi sympathizer--all for interviewing a Republican presidential candidate...is not just bad journalism. It's outright slander. And it should be denounced by anyone who believes in actual journalism.

The last line in Levin's article states: "Anyway, just as a reminder, a DeSantis presidency is as terrible a prospect as a Trump one."

Even if I agree, the bigger is this: She's telling her readers what to think...not the facts, not the news. That's not the job of a journalist. At least certainly not one whose story finds itself in the "news" section.

#BREAKING: Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis files to run against former President Trump in 2024 https://t.co/xBrbTB1PMP pic.twitter.com/s0wFFDxlmL

-- The Hill (@thehill) May 24, 2023

I think he's filing to run against Biden, but ok.

-- J Of The Jay (@jabster42) May 24, 2023

The Washington Post's "journalist" Paul Fahri basically makes the Conservative Case for Ron DeSantis. He means it to be disqualifying, of course.

Paul Farhi
@farhip

DeSantis, in last two months, has signed bills that:

--Make abortions illegal after six weeks.

--Enable permitless concealed- firearms carry.

--Eliminate unanimous jury verdicts in death-penalty cases. More...

--Makes child rapists eligible for the death penalty.

--Increases prison sentences for transporting undocumented individuals.

--Bans TikTok on govt/public school devices, prohibits China and "other foreign countries of concern" from buying land w/in 10 miles of military sites...

--Restricts gender-affirming treatments for minors, drag shows, public bathroom use, and pronoun use by teachers, administrators and students in schools. Law also affirms that sexual orientation and gender identity can't be taught up to eighth grade....

--Exempts governor's travel records from state public disclosure law. Applies retroactively and covers his use of state planes.

--Defunds diversity, equity and inclusion programs at state universities....

--Expands measures to block state investment based on environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors.

--Upcoming: Bill allowing him to run for president without resigning as governor awaiting his signature. End.

Seems to me you could have a pretty good weekend in Vegas with all that stuff!

This guy is openly campaigning against a political figure he pretends to cover "as a journalist."

Do words have meanings any longer?

Bill Kristol is now praising Trump, so that he can attack DeSantis as Worse Than Trump:

Bill Kristol
@BillKristol

I tend (perhaps foolishly) to discount the Alpha/Beta Male stuff.

But:

DeSantis was always on Fox when Rupert was for him. Now he announces on Twitter when Elon's for him. Kind of Beta, no?

Trump does CNN town hall, goes into the (pseudo-) lion's den. Looks kind of Alpha, no?

Yeah I know there he says that Ron DeSantis is a cvck, but in a bit, I'll quote him saying that DeSantis is a "more talented demagogue" than Trump is.

Ben Shapiro
@benshapiro

How odd that the minute another Republican threatens Trump for the nomination, all the people who declared that Trump was a Threat To The Republic(TM) flip and now find Strange New Respect(TM) for Trump

Fusilli Spock
@awstar11

Perfectly encapsulating how the fake conservatives of the past 20-30 years were always actually Democrats. There's zero daylight between this tweet vs. from the most ridiculous partisans from the Left.

MuhPrinziplzzzzzz.

The NeverTrumpers say that DeSantis is "a more talented demagogue than Trump," and are opposing him with equal or greater vigor than they opposed Trump.

"We have a dilemma on our hands," Cullen told Roarty, one in which certain disaffected members of the GOP will have to weigh conscience against pragmatism.

If the choice is between Trump and DeSantis, "a small but influential contingent of Republicans" will agonize between the "clear and present danger to the republic" and alternative who might ratchet up "the GOP's turn to anti-democratic demagoguery."
Really? That's how they see it? How would you like to live in their world?

"I'm depressed in either case," said longtime conservative leader Bill Kristol, who called Trump the more "talented" demagogue of the two men.

Bill Kristol, a cheap smear merchant currently kept at an unhealthy 40+ BMI thanks to leftwing provocateur Pierre Omidyar and most likely George Soros as well, was a vigorous spreader of Hillary Clinton pack of demagoguic lies called the Steele Dossier. He's got some nerve -- and no sense of self-reflection -- when he calls anyone else a demagogue.

Roarty quotes a representative sample of prominent Never Trumpers who also feel icky about DeSantis, and some of whom even manage to squeeze out grudging compliments for their perception of the lesser of two evils.

...

That sort of reassurance is not enough for some in the anti-Trump realm. Roarty reports that GOP strategist and The Bulwark publisher Sarah Longwell, who's helped raise and spend multiple millions of dollars opposing Trump, would pick the Democrat incumbent in a Ron DeSantis-Joe Biden showdown.

DeSantis, she said, reminds her of Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Orban, an authoritarian leader who has spoken out about mixed race marriages and sharply cut the rights of the country's LGBTQ citizens.

Here's some of that "extremism" the NeverTrumpers want to purge the party they abandoned of: A hamburger chain is suing Florida, asserting its first amendment right to host sexualized "lewd" drag shows for children.

The restaurant chain Hamburger Mary's is suing Gov. Ron DeSantis and Florida over its recently enacted ban on minors attending drag performances, claiming that the state is depriving it of its First Amendment right of free expression.

The suit, filed in federal court in central Florida, alleges that the law the governor signed into law Wednesday is so broad that it has "a chilling effect on protected speech."

At issue is a measure the Republican-led Legislature approved in April that bars minors from attending drag shows with "lewd" performances. The governor has personally called for tighter restrictions around such shows, which he says "sexualize" children.

The claim that they were uniquely against Trump was always a lie -- the neocons are liberals, and always were liberals. They were against the conservative base's political agenda, and attacked Trump because he was advancing that agenda. And now they're attacking DeSantis for the same reason.

They took over the party to push for War Across the World and suppressed every other natural conservative impulse for the 30 years in which they held the party in corporate-funded captivity.

They won't be pretending this time that it's about Muh Tweets or Muh Virtue and Character; now they'll just admit that they hate conservatives and support extremely leftwing social policies.

Here's Trump's very conservative, very presidential Twitter Babblings about the announcement. Attacking DeSantis from the left on Medicaid, attacking DeSantis from the left on the Flat Tax, etc.

And it's all about Trump and "loyalty" to Trump. Of course.

Can't wait until DeSantis starts lighting him the f*** up on The Trump Lockdowns.

From Zero Hedge:

"Ron DeSanctus can't win the General Election (or get the nomination) because he voted to obliterate Social Security, even wanting to raise the minimum age to 70 (or more!), voted to badly wound Medicare, and fought hard and voted for a 23% 'tax on everything' sales tax," former President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social on May 24.

"He was, and is, a disciple of horrible RINO Paul Ryan, and others too many to mention," Trump added.

"Also, he desperately needs a personality transplant and, to the best of my knowledge, they are not medically available yet. A disloyal person!"

...

"Look, Rob DeSanctimonious came to me asking for help," he wrote in one post.

"He was losing badly, by 31 points, to popular Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam. He was getting ready to drop out of the race--Ran a terrible campaign!

"Ron told me he had one last chance, my Support & Endorsement, which Putnam, and everyone else, wanted also. I gave it to Ron, and the race was over. In one day, he went from losing badly, to winning by a lot. With 3 large Trump rallies, he won the general election in an upset. Disloyal!!!"

I continue being perplexed by Trump's call for "loyalty." I thought he was a businessman. I thought the consumer was empowered to seek a better deal if a better vendor came along.

I also note that Trump's pitch in 2016 was to abandon prior loyalties to support him. But now loyalty means everything, and forever?

93 At issue is a measure the Republican-led Legislature approved in April that bars minors from attending drag shows with "lewd" performances.

Why do you think all the 60s folks worked so hard to overturn obscenity statues? Why did they go all absolutist on "freedom"? (Really it was license.)

So they could break down all the walls, remove all the morality, deaden all the conscience, and then everyone could participate in their hedonistic utopia. This has always been the goal of the progressives - to enable pleasure without consequence, no matter you think "pleasure" is. They think this is glorious. Anyone with a remnant of a conscience thinks otherwise.

But stopping one piece of this is not enough. Progressivism will drag us right back here, eventually.

It's part of magical/religious thinking. You say the right word and everyone genuflects. You say a different word and everyone boos and hisses. They don't even examine them, they just give the correct response. The Enlightenment and Reformation broke some people out of that - until history circled right back around with worshipping science....

>>But i guess that's out the window now because it's inconvenient for Trump

Please, explicate the rationale for a DeSantis run while Trump is the candidate?

How exactly is he going to delineate himself from Trump?

He's literally a creation of Trump.

Remember Trump is single handidly responsible for the fighting-fighting Republicans that you see on the national stage.

These clowns did not exist before Trump, which is why we have Trump.

DeSantis was a useless congressional chucklehead before he bailed and was given a major assist in winning in Florida.

He has been a great Governor largely because he has a legislature that is on script with him, absent that, he would have been able to accomplish jack squat nothing.

Credit to DeSantis. That is actually a very good platform position. It's not just a jab at Trump though it expressly is. The clowns we see everyday aren't taken seriously because of thoughtful due diligence and concern; they're not taken seriously because they robotically champion a brand.

In my book, that kind of loyalty to we the people of the nation) does demand some reciprocity. Now RDS comes along (who I like as guv of FL tremendously) and he only got elected in 2018 because Trump supported him… and now he seems to be saying forget all that I can do it better. He can’t self-fund like DJT so he will be beholden to big donors and easier to roll because he can’t afford the lawyers Trump can to wage lawfare…. The whole thing turns my stomach. He should not have run…. No one wins.

>>In my heart of Hearts, I don't believe Trump is going to beat Biden (at least not in the only sense that matters).

That's a separate issue, any debate stage that Trump is on is going to be about Trump, every candidate is going to either be asked to attack a Trump policy or defend themselves for why they support a Trump policy.

It's essentially going to be a replay of 2016 except Trump has an actual record of accomplishments.

What the f**k us Nikki Haley going to say, I disagreed with Trumps foreign policy but since I'm a bloodless soulless political animal I executed those policies anyways?

310 Reverse psychology does not usually work on me. Just because Democrats are against him, it doesn't mean now I have to be for him.
Possibly the notabilities of the Republican Party are now advising DeSantis that to succeed on the national stage he has to stay neutral, smile more, and not say anything controversial (i.e. that could make a Democrat uncomfortable) --- and they'll do the rest.
Perhaps Trump was too populist and said stupid stuff (I don't believe it). However, "Make America Great Again" and "Build the Wall" resonated with me.
I would like to see DeSantis make a "controversial" (in the above sense) policy proposal and strongly uphold it, shouting from the rooftops if needed. I would like this even (especially) if the policy can be expressed in 3-4 words. No, I wouldn't like the proposal to be "stop supporting Ukraine". But, in any case, if he doesn't do it now (i.e. over the next 3 months) then I am less confident he will do it later (when hopefully he is president).
Maybe DeSantis and his people gave clear signs and/or private briefings to important people reassuring them that he is the real deal. However, I was not included and would like to see more.

324 They fear DeSantis because he has discipline. He took a marginally red state, with a GOPe legislature and actually flipped it red MAGA. Yes, his covid policies increased sympathetic voters to his state - but he made the structural changes before any of that really hit.

His comm team is substantially superior to Trump's, and the neo-cons/NT groups realize he is a bigger threat to wiping out the contacts in leadership they currently have, responding much more effectively to media meddling, and understanding how government works. His leadership in Florida has fostered a number of red states following suit on ESG, covid, trans, and any other number of things. At the federal level, he would wipe out any push back from the feds as that spreads. He can let the blue states continue to fuck themselves.

Of course - he can't win the general. Because it's who counts the votes - not who votes.

Democrats have a lock with their absentee ballot machine and GOP pretends that elections are about electable candidates. So Biden is going to win by however many votes are needed.

So, like Democrats, we're just done with primaries. In the name of efficiency. "Trump 2024: The Trains Shall Run On Time!" It probably sounded better in the original Italian.

Part of the reason had to to with FL law. I don't think DeSantis could run for another office while governor. The legislature changed law just recently so DeSantis could a) continue his conservative mission in FL (officially and with authority) while b) running for president.

I think they would have had a chance of beating the fraud on the same ticket. I don't think either of them can get to 270, because there is no way to win the needed states out of a combination from PA, GA, VA, WI, NV, and AZ.

Democrats have a lock with their absentee ballot machine and GOP pretends that elections are about electable candidates. So Biden is going to win by however many votes are needed.
Posted by: Dave in Fla at May 24, 2023 06:49 PM (5p7BC)

To pre-validate Joe's win by cheating, starting soon the MFM will use only polls that have Biden beating the R front-runners and eventual nominee by 5 percent or more. Not hard to do when all the MFM outfits have their own polling operation or partner with a "non-partisan" organization.

Vote counting for the win. Nothing else matters. It's tragic but it's true. And fraud is coming like we've never seen considering how the current regime got in and might actually fear - for the first time ever - retribution.

Posted by: Fightwinger at May 24, 2023 06:58 PM (fAXb0)

That's absurd. You don't attack someone if you don't think you need to in the primary because you want to take as many of their voters as possible in the general. This is so painfully obvious I can't believe anyone would miss it. This is why Cruz resisted attacking Trump for so long in the primaries. If Trump were inevitable with no threat, he would be focusing on Biden and only Biden. He isn't, his surrogates aren't, the OnlyTrumpers aren't. They're lying when they say the believe DeSantis can't beat Trump.

500 Trump in 2016 very much came off as an independent that just had an R next to his name. Like a Ross Perot if he had run as a Republican. It felt fun and fresh. Trump also had a #1 TV show not that long ago (from 2016) and it helped his brand.

That's all gone, those voters aren't coming back. His brand is gone.

And even in 2016 when all of this did work, it was a one off because he was up against Hillary Clinton.

Trump basically took 100k or so white working class voters in the Rust Belt that probably thought Hillary reminded them of their mother-in-law or ex-wife. In all sorts of other states, he underperformed Romney.

It just wasnt the victory people thought it was.

504 I think for a while Desantis will say the right things and toss red meat to the base. Meanwhile, deep state will continue its thing to wrap Trump in lawsuit after lawsuit and possible jail. Desantis will stay quiet on this ("I'm staying above that," sound familiar?) and that will cause rumbles in the base. Then the Ryan/Bush/Rove/doner influence and $$ will craft his campaign and then? Who knows? Wish he would have waited for '28 and thrown his support behind Trump. Would have had a chance at cracking deep state operatives and a shot at MAGA.

But the difference now in the states is that there is now an aggressiveness and willingness within the GOP to actually fight and advance the agenda.

DeSantis is not going to be able to translate the Florida is Where Woke Goes to Die template to the federal level nor most of the sh*t that is really important.

It's going to be essentially following the Trump template forcing your will, fighting against the Uniparty and hoping you don't get impeached by these maniacs.

Many of Trump’s candidates lost in close elections, where the GOP nationally was noticeably absent. I think the GOPe was quite happy to lose a few of those races, and many party leaders have already been cool on Trump running in 2024.

The fact they aren't bitching about DeSantis in the same way is immediately suspicious. I love what I'm hearing out of Florida for the last few years, and hope it's sincere and will continue, regardless of where DeSantis ends up.

Voting early at the polls is a different problem than mail in voting.

Voting early at the polls shows both Dems and Repubs who voted and what the current tallies are. They use that information to tailor the GOTV to the remaining people who haven’t voted.

Mail-in voting is essentially a black box without a chain of custody. The numbers aren’t even tabulated until Election Day. Obviously that is done on purpose to maximize fraud.

The voting systems in many states are completely fucked up and as a system is totally unreliable even outside the cheating.

1. There will be fraud
2. Trump is the only one who can possibly overcome it because he was wronged and everyone knows it; righteous anger is the ultimate motivator. Trump has that; no one else does
3. Despite #2, it’s still a steep climb because of #1
4. Having RDS and DJT team up would’ve made it easier to overcome the fraud; this dust up in the primary might ruin that (although they could team up even after a nasty primary)

DJT wasn't just disloyal to his constituency in 2020. He was disloyal to the Constitution, and disloyal to his own cabinet- including the most effective members of it. Instead of backing the repeatedly correct Atlas, he threw him under the bus. But hey- we got Fauci and Birx, hanging on for the duration. And how's Chris Wray working out for you?

I voted for Donald Trump as a choice for an employee. He failed at his job in crunch time. Subsequently, now that a far better hire is available, he's being replaced as far as I'm concerned.

I think it was over Americanism. And other Republicans could EASILY do that. A great many are hampered by being Progressives, some others are hampered by being wonks, and some are hampered by their passion for donuts it seems.

Trade (really jobs at home), immigration, having a strong military, etc. should be a guaranteed position for a Republican - where they start. But the progressivism has gotten stronger over the years and lots of Republicans couldn't even do that. So Trump beat them. MAGA!

Trump was certainly better than the alternatives (both times he's run, so far), according to a lot of Republicans (and enough Democrats). And a lot of people will vote for him.

But I certainly would like to see someone with better "conservative" credentials running, with a solid understanding of the Constitution, the DoI, and with a little less NYC flamboyance - but not much less. And to be a real winner, I think they should run on a policy of burning most of DC to the ground.

I personally think that there is a marginal chance that the blowback from another obviously rigged election would allow someone like DeSantis to win in 2028, which is why I wanted him to sit this one out. Trump is highly favored to win the nomination and is going to go scorched earth on DeSantis like he did Rubio, Cruz, etc.

And then whoever wins the nomination is going to lose the general because the national GOP is run by a bunch of idiots. Until the national GOP insiders are gone, and a way to beat the vote fraud is dealt with, the election is lost. 649 It is a long time til the election and they are going to continue to beat Trump over the head with legal case after case. I am tired of the drama. Trump has spent more money disparaging DeSantis than talking about Biden's failures. He didn't put any money in the 2022 election when we couoldhave taken the senate. Why? So Biden fails instead of what is in the best interest of the country. He has not made any attempt to say what he would do differently this time around that would actually accomplish his goals. See, this is my issue. All Trump had to do was say he welcomed the competition. Let's hear from both candidates and let people decide based on who comes across as most able to win and get things done.
Instead Trump has resorted to name calling and childish rants. Have some respect. Trump should have embraced the conservative things that DeSantis has done in Florida and show how he would build on those ideas with fresh ideas of his own.

He's fired.

I guess you forget President Trump is not a scientist and maybe you should go back amd watch the videos amd read the accolades of Fauci amd co. It was a globalist plot.

He has elimiminated DEI and ESG in Florida. He has gotten conservative legislation passed.

More effective? From what I've heard from Trump and his entourage, the Deep State rigged an election and drove him out of office. If they weren't in a position to steal the presidency from him in 2016, but were in 2020, doesn't that mean they grew more powerful in the intervening years?

If your priority is fighting the "Deep State", then Donald Trump was a complete failure.

684 Enzo,

They believed their election-rigging in 2016 was a lock. The shocked look on their faces when they were forced to concede said it all. America rejected them.

That they redoubled their vote fraud, including making unholy alliances with corrupt members of our own GOP, wasn't surprising. Trump revealed our media and our FBI as pathological liars and frauds. Of course, they did unbelievable things to drive him from office.

Ron DeSantis is aligned with all of the GOPe forces that backstabbed Trump relentlessly. These folks would happily see him get the nomination, if they could guarantee he'd lose to Hillary or Mike.

Now you're saying DeSantis is aligned with the conveniently unnamed "GOPe forces" that "backstabbed Trump." Who are they? Give me specifics. Tell me who the GOPe forces that rigged the election are, and then tell me why Trump did nothing about them during his entire presidency.

I still want to see how he holds up when the left drags out a manatee that says Ron raped her on the Gulf Coast in 1976 and files defamation charges against him when he denies it. There would probably be some of EPA violation in that violation too.

You know the intel agencies and FBI will run ops on him, and it takes a special sort of person with a huge ego, and lots of money to stand up to those kinds of assaults. When they come and arrest everyone who associates with him, including his home room teacher from high school, then we will see if he can survive it. 701 Loyalty: Is it important that Buck and CBD are probably very loyal to you, Ace? I would assume it is. It is important and something that is very lacking in the republican party highlighting at least my lack of trust of literally the entire party with a few exceptions.

DeSantis: I have no issues with what he has done in Florida; it has all been wonderful except the added $1.5B in taxes...

I have a serious problem with his multinational donors who are really doing him never-ending disservices like launching on Twitter for godsakes: how many fucking conservatives are on fucking Twitter? Not very many.

In addition; a couple weeks ago Trump took RdS to task regarding the stupidity of taking on Disney rather than focusing on the MANY problems still on the rise in Florida. Trump is going to be proven right on the never-ending legal battles with Disney bleeding FL taxpayers dry...

Remember, Trump didn't lose the 2020 election, the republican party ceded control of their state elections to democrats(prolly for money because that what repubs are about).

He won in and landslide and we all know it; just look around.
