Ingham County Sheriff's deputies used life-saving CPR on an two-month-old baby who was not breathing when they arrived on the scene.

Science is never settled. If it was this individual would not be another: Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day.

A pair of implants forming a digital bridge between the brain and the spinal cord has enabled a 'test pilot' patient to better stand and walk again, showing promise for an innovation that could one day transform the lives of individuals with paralysis.

Led by researchers from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL), the investigation involved a 40-year-old man named Gert-Jan, who had been paralyzed by a biking accident over a decade ago.

Gert-Jan had previously regained some ability to walk with the help of a front-wheel walker. For the three years before enrolling in the latest test though, he had reached a "neurological recovery plateau".

95 Re Tina Turner:

I remember back in the day, she was appearing on Johnny Carson.

She was performing Proud Mary, backed by her retinue of singers who were dressed as she was...provocatively: short, short mini skirts...leaving little to the imagination.

Once Tina had gotten past the "nice and easy" part, and was cookin', she and the back-up singers started shaking their money makers.

I seem to remember the screen going blank below the shoulders of Tina until the end of the song.

I can't find a video of it on the interwebs, but I do remember the "technical difficulties"...oh yes I do.

I remember seeing Turner and Adams on TV during Live Aid. For me, their performance of 'It's Only Love' was the highlight of that concert. It was electrifying. The chemistry between the two of them was palpable.

That said, it's silly to think that Trump is 'a liability'. The garbage people that hate him are going to hate Desantis or anyone else who represents American values and interests for much the same reasons (or whatever reason state media feeds them), mostly that by not actively destroying this country, they're not delivering progressive utopia. Or offering blood sacrifices to Molech. Or live children to Asteroth. Or whatever evil thing drives them.

I think a lot of the argument is about public indecency. Just like a flasher in the park, or public nudity laws, does society have a Right to demand certain levels of social mores? Apparently public transvestites has been normalized by enough of the loudest parts of the population that regardless of motivation to cosplay as a 1950s housewife, its deemed so low on an enforcement priority that it is practically legal. Its the perverts and cultural Marxists who want to celebrate deviancy.

The cunt-ry is too big and too integrated to have any expectations of decency and respect for one's neighbor. Think of it is as a rat socialization experiment. Throw a rat into a box and see how it behaves, keep adding rats to a box and eventually they attack and harm each other.

That is America now. Too many rats packed in a box.

Dollar General will be one of the approved locations to get your discount, out of date, bugs when you own nothing and like it.

If you want pre-packaged, freeze dried meal worms, you'll go to Walmart.

Aldi's will have the cheapest, low-carb meal worms, but you will have to bring a sack to scoop them into or just fill your pockets with them and step on a scale when you enter and then leave the store to pay the appropriate amount.

Trader Joe's will have funky Sriracha flavored meal worms.

Kroger's will offer Microsoft brand meal worms, organic gluten-free meal worms, and Cost-Cutter store brand meal worms.

218 Evening.

Reading over at Hot Air that apparently the State Department is lecturing Brazilians on pronoun usage. Was reading a few days ago that Rahm Emmanuel, who is apparently our ambassador to Japan, is pressuring the Japanese to legalize gay marriage.

These, among other issues being forced on us by the Alphabet Mafia, have me wondering. Since we clearly are moving into a post-republican, post-democratic country dominated by gay groups (the gay flag has clearly replaced the Stars and Stripesas our national emblem) is there a word that we can use to describe this new type of society or will one need to be invented?

As with Black Bear Diner.

bland...Bland...BLAND. BLAH n'd!

They're making "Tex-Mex" food, for those so un-adventurous, that the sauce packs from Taco Bell scare them as they're too hot.

Pro-Tip. Properly seasoned Tex-Mex ain't hot. But it's damn sure loaded with flavor. Deep, rich, wonderful, glorious Flavor!

Refried beans aren't supposed to be bland. But, 'cha gotta ADD the flavor into the pot, from the beginnings. Marinated ham hock >>> raw ham hock, for simmering down the beans. And then go from there, etc.

Put some kebabs on the grill to cook, went inside, come out 5 minutes later, and there's a merry torch burning at the outlet of the gas regulator. Hose burned right off, and tank very hot. Managed to get the tank valve closed, and the fire went out. Sheesh!

Wood and charcoal cooking fires take a long time to be ready to use. But I think I will replace the flex hose from the regulator to the burners with one 20 feet long, and mount the tank remote from the grill.

Really? Have you tasted things cooked over propane or natural gas? Not the same league, and not the same pollutant.

Posted by: tcn in AK, Hail to the Thief at May 25, 2023 01:25 AM (LOVUx)

277 If you want the most neutral cooking flavor, you're going to set your cast iron pan atop an electric cooktop, and let 'er rip. Gas flame under the cookware is a 99.5% 2nd place.

Otherwise, if you want FLAVOR, then plan to light up your favorite charcoal or wood, regardless of grill, pan, rotisserie or etc.

Lowest on that totem is the gas-fed flame. Yeah, a good char CAN and often does mask the funk of the gas, but just as frequently, does not.

So far as I know, there's not a focusing array to direct solar into a heat point under one's cookware. Which you don't want, as one mis-step, and YOU'RE the ant under the glass.

Posted by: Biden's Dog sniffs a whole lotta malarkey, at May 25, 2023 01:32 AM (Frnu2)

280 I use a propane stove for canning, but at the moment I am using a firepit to cook with. I generally don't grill, so the stink they add to propane and natural gas is not that important for me, but I like the fact that I can cook a dinner on a relatively small amount of wood.

i started out with a car rim dug into the dirt, and later dug a deeper pit under it and put in an air supply channel with a clay drainage tile.
I stuff the pit with bark and build a small fire on top, that gives me a bright hot fire to start with to heat the pans, and coals for the next couple of hours so I don't have to reload the pit.
Not ideal or perfect, but it works and can cook a nice stew in about an hour and have coals enough to heat water for washing.

Pouring UV resin from a bottle into silicone molds. Nothing super fancy, just a kit Pooky got for me. I know how to make basic jewelry, and half the molds come with a spot for the jump-ring hole, so it's pretty easy. Tonight I was experimenting with colored flakes in clear resin, curing it, then coloring the back with a Sharpie, then pouring clear resin on top of *that.* It has a really nice effect that looks like jewels on black felt and it goes pretty fast. I don't think I'll sell it or anything, it's just fun to learn and play with for now.

Mine is Bryston amplification and Bowers-and-Wilkins speaks.

Spend your money where it matters: speakers. That's the only place where it's HARD to get close to reality. The electronics have been a solved problem for decades, so "decent quality, but good enough" is the way to go there.

330 I blame the plandemic. They paid people to stay home. Endless unemployment. It was a direct injection of the poison of Socialism. I had a woman cutting my hair tell me that Covid was the best time of her life. Sat on her ass collecting checks. Didn't have to work, didn't have to try.

The guys we try to hire in a manufacturing environment would rather sit at home, smoke weed and play Madden. They have zero pride, zero skill, zero drive. We could teach them skills that could better their lives. They don't care.

331 Everybody is stoned. Not even being facetious. Vape pens are ubiquitous. I'll bet the reason most of our elected officials sound so particularly retarded of late is because they're all hopped up on goofballs every waking hour.

But in general it's worse than nobody knows how to do anything. Nobody *wants* to do anything, and has no idea why they even should.

Getting up and doing a thing is always going to lose to not having to get up and do a thing.

333 Warai-otoko,

You're right, no one *wants* to do anything, for the most part. Happily, I have seen a couple exceptions to the rule here lately. Have a couple new guys who are actually interested in learning Tig, Mig and general fabrication. They are both genuinely embarrassed by their generation. They want to learn to work with their hands.

It's comforting to see, but, once again, they seem to be the exception to the rule.

334 My "i just woke up but haven't got out of bed yet" musing for today was that we're right now on the cusp of a massive paradigm shift for humanity. The explosion of communication coupled with the bastardization of Science makes a more widespread appreciation of philosophical thought and having a coherent worldview brutally necessary.

I know exactly what you mean. The vast sea of dopes out there are utterly broken and useless... and yet when you do get that kid who is eager to learn and has a good work ethic, it's like a tiny uncut diamond glittering in the midst of fifty acres of mud and cow shit.

Non-approved philosophical thought? We'll ban and censor it.

337 Just for the record, I think Mr Bairman (from yesterday) was incorrect. I did not call the fully clothed woman in a pink dress which was posted yesterday a prostitute. I said posting that picture was better than posting a picture of woman who'd look like she could breastfeed an adult male, as if I was talking about that woman. He misread my post.

339 Well Horde, I have scoured the internet and read my share of articles and depressing news. I am off to bed, but I still will get up in the morning and hope that we as a nation come to our senses.

You woke up and thought that? Good grief, I wake up and wonder where my glass of water is.

I'm voting for you for president next election. You seem to be more coherent than sleepy Joe.

No; I have to be up "officially" in 45 minutes. I just woke up earlier today, but no, I don't particularly like being credited with saying things I didn't say-as stupid as some of the things I say may be.

Well, being more coherent than Biden is not hard at the moment, but I would hate the character assassination that Trump received and now the likely threats of being indicted because the Stasi and deep state were threatened by him.

I actually know a woman who was running for office here. Smart woman, articulate, conservative and in her thirties, She has now pulled out of the race because of personal attacks by other Republicans-not even ones who are running against her, (Because there aren't any) which is sad. Politics is a vicious business.

344 Warai-otoko,

They are, indeed, my diamonds in the rough. I'm glad to have them. I have a profound well of patience for those who sincerely want to learn and contribute.

I won one of them over when one of his slacker co-workers was attempting to mock us Gen-Xers. I pointed out that my generation didn't need to be warned not to eat laundry detergent, that we used our condoms to have sex with actual women, and that none of us had ever demanded tampon dispensers in the men's room.

345 One of my gripes is that the "kids these days are awful people who can't do anything" gripe seems to extend to all ages.... not just teenagers, but young adults, middle aged, the elderly (sometimes *especially* the elderly).... they're all terrible. Fidgety. Impatient. Rude. Demanding. Generally ignorant and unteachable. Bumbling around all the stores and banks as if they were toddlers who lost their parents. It's like people all decided in the 60's that no one was allowed to be an adult ever again. Are we really in an idiocracy-world now? And the kicker is that the small remnant of people who aren't awful, are *aggressively* not awful. Like they are going well out of their way to prove to strangers that they haven't been infected with the brain-eating virus and are still human.

Good Lord.

I'm over 29, aren't I?

It's like local politics is the farm league for perfecting your skills in the Big Show. Doesn't really matter which team you're on. You show a nasty slider and someone will pick you up and give you a contract.

Posted by: Warai-otoko at May 25, 2023 04:05 AM (9UlRk)

347 FenelonSpoke,

And those are attacks from our "fellow Republicans." The same people who looted and destroyed the Tea Party. Like Dan Bongino says, "In Washington, D.C. half of the Republicans are actually Democrats, and none of the Democrats are Republicans."

That's what we're up against.

There are days when i could easily be convinced that everyone is in on it. They're all actors in the same play. Trump. DeSantis. Gaetz. Greene. Santos. Every single one is an actor reading from a script. The whole shebang is an original story and the characters are not based on any persons living or otherwise.

Posted by: Warai-otoko at May 25, 2023 04:09 AM (9UlRk)

350 Each of us is just a Non-Player Character existing in an artificial program. We're just watching the two wings of the UniParty bird flap and flap in this perverse universe. We'll all exist until that moment in time when the increasing stupidity and seeming futility of our existence causes our program to completely short-circuit.

Picked a lousy time to stop drinking.

Yes indeed. It amazes me that as a young kid I wanted to go into politics. I applied for a congressional internship w/ John B. Anderson back in the day, 1970s.

My folks had limited connections compared to others. Glad I didn't get it back then.

I'm happy listening to the late Tina Turner right now.

RIP dear soul.
