Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Saturday Morning Coffee Break & Prayer RevivalNo, there is no explanation. Let your minds wander...................... May I encourage you to review the rules? Why yes. 1) Open thread, feel free to opine and/or bloviate away. 2) Be nice to one another including the Hectors of the world. 3) No running with sharp objects. You may walk fast with them. 4) Have a fun weekend. requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update. Prayer Requests: 4/22 – vmom asked for prayers as she considers applying for a different position within her current place of employment. 5/4 Update – vmom was offered the job! 4/22 – gp sends thanks for all the prayers for Brian (old age pain) and Al (loneliness) – she saw the results in their lives and appreciates it so much! She has a new request for her friend Larry, who received a bad news angiogram is afraid. 4/22 – Tonypete asked for prayers for himself and his wife as they continue training to be Stephen Ministers for their Parish. 4/22 - Swodog asked for prayers for his son, who was the student that the “Twerking Teacher” focused on at last year’s prom. The son started at UF last fall but couldn’t focus with all the legal and social media stuff flying around. He withdrew from school and is still depressed. His folks are praying he is able to get better and re-enroll in the fall. 4/26 – Sponge and his family could use prayers of comfort, as his grandmother just passed away. She was just a few months shy of her 99 th birthday. 4/29 – Grammie Winger asked for prayers. Her doctor located a mass in her abdomen. She had a CT scan scheduled for 5/2. 4/29 – rhennigantx asked for prayers for his daughter. She needs some help with medical issues and mental issues. 4/29 – Prime Sister requests prayer for her son, Austin, in Singapore, who hasn’t been in touch for 6 months. Please pray he will contact someone soon. 5/8 Update – Thanks so much for your continued prayers. There hasn’t been any contact yet. But she has much more peace about this situation now. 4/29 – Morgan, longtime lurker, offers praise for God’s blessing on his Spanish studies and requests prayer for healing from his auto accident. He also prays for blessings upon the site and its moderators. 4/29 Update – Today he was pain-free! Praise be to God! 5/2 – Cat Ass Trophy’s father-in-law could use some prayers. He was admitted to the hospital last night. He was hit hard by the bronchitis going around. After more extensive tests, it was diagnosed as parainfluenza. 5/2 – Sponge asked for prayers. His father fell over the weekend and hurt himself badly. He has 6 broken ribs, a partially collapsed lung, and a fractured right arm. Some of the ribs splintered, so they will do surgery to insert a plate to stabilize them. His dad wasn’t in the greatest health anyway, so this will take a toll. 5/12 Update – Sponge reports that his dad is still a bit confused, but he was conscious and talking this past week. He still experiences some significant pain, but other than that, he appears to be on the road to a recovery of sorts. 5/2 – DaveT asks for prayers. He was trying to save his cats and his home, and then had an unfortunate court ruling, related to a family member who burdened the home with some debt. DaveT is over 65 and not able to work as much as he would like, and the cats have special needs, too (blind and older). He has a GiveSendGo set up, so please email Annie’s Stew for more information about how to contribute, if you would like to donate. 5/3 – Jewells asked for prayers for her niece, who had a biopsy done and they are pretty sure she has cervical cancer. She asked for prayers, please, for her sweet niece. 5/5 – gp asked for prayers for Ivan, who is in the hospital with heart problems. He is a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Thank you! 5/11 – FenelonSpoke again thanks everyone for the prayers and cards and donations to their church. They are blessed by your concern. The latest update is that the township Open Space intends to go ahead with the purchase of the land. However, the township committee still has to approve the purchase, so please continue to keep them in prayer. Thanks and God bless you all! 5/13 – Farmer Bob requested prayers for healing and peace. His wife’s mother died from Alzheimer’s disease last Sunday. They were caring for her in their home, but he was out of town on business. When he called his wife (of 34 years and 5 children) to comfort her, she let him know that she no longer loves him and would prefer he never return. He finds himself homeless and alone for the first time in 34 years. 5/16 – Tonypete lost a friend this week, Ron. Prayers of comfort for Ron’s family and friends would be helpful. For submission guidelines and other relevant info, please contact Annie's Stew, who is managing the prayer list. You can contact her at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. If you see a prayer request posted in a thread comment, feel free to copy and paste it and e-mail it to Annie's Stew. She tries to keep up with the requests in the threads, but she's not here all of the time, so she may not see it unless you e-mail it to her. Please note: Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks or so unless we receive an update. Romans 8:26-27 26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. Posted by: Dash my lace wigs! --- Thanks for asking! Sort of. She occasionally gets homesick and says she wants to go stay there for a few days. (Her home is not in livable condition, and she doesn't really remember/accept how bad it is.) Most of the time we're muddling through pretty well. We often find something to laugh at, usually ourselves. She seemed to be fine while I was in Cali for a week - I had someone come by to check on her each day, and she was chipper when I called her each morning & evening. 1. The boy spawn is now engaged to a delightful young woman who is the same combination of goofy but responsible as he is. 2. Our manufactured home with come off the line in mid July. This means we could be moving in by mid August. 3. My uncle is getting a surprise birthday party today. He just turned 80. The man had a massive, debilitating heart attack at age 36 which left behind an aneurysm . At 40, he had a stroke that paralyzed his left side (he was left handed) and affected his speech. At 60-ish he was diagnosed with Parkinson's. The man should have been dead decades ago! My dad was his older brother and when he passed away a few years ago, uncle said I can't believe I outlived him. He meant that. That is the first time I was able to share Holy Communion with her a, so I'd like to think seeing the license plate was what one writer describes as "God winks at you.".

Morning again, all,
Back from the grocery, and I'm microwaving a third cup of coffee. The grocery run takes long enough that it makes no sense to leave the coffeemaker on, keeping the stuff warm. I might as well nuke it when I get back. Hot and sunny today, possible showers later, and theoretically it will be drier (= less humid) tomorrow. We'll see. The Killer Kittens From Outer Space are doing well. Stirling still kneads my arm in the morning when I wake up. Dagny has taken to playing the "fetch" game with me, using her little green mouse toy. Both cats love that mouse; it's just the size of a real mouse, I guess, and it's a firm object so they can clamp it in their teeth. Stirling is not into the fetch business, though.
Dagny has also taken to jumping into my lap and staying briefly before galloping away. Maybe someday she'll be a lap cat. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at May 20, 2023 09:54 AM (omVj0) 95

There's also a difference between people whose surnames simply signify a region or occupation and those who are titled. Finally, there is a question of familial respect. My paternal grandparents were very humble people, but also venerated by their kids and grandkids, and so the family name (on the distaff side) has been carefully preserved to honor them. Their given names are also peppered among their descendants. Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd at May 20, 2023 10:01 AM (llXky) 106
Speaking of family names, I think it was Thursday night that I had a dream where I was talking with my grandfather (who died 23 years ago). Much of it consisted of him pointing out areas where I could do better (and I agreed with him), but at the end I gave him the good news that not only was he a great-great-grandfather, but also that despite a paucity of male heirs, the Lloyd name is preserved in countless middle names, including that of his great-great-grandson. He liked that.

I would like to share some good news about our son. He was feeling anxious about his weight. He was thin in high school because he ran Cross Country and Track. Then he had some medical issues and had to go on medication which causes weight gain. He tried to do some running at college but he seemed to be so focused on his studies he didn't run much.
He decided to try a local small gym and went there twice this week. Once for exercise involving a bike and exercise bands and some other class involving boxing type moves. He likes it and the owner is very nice. He said "I feel bad I'm such a schlub." (I don't know where he got that fun word from. It sounds rather old fashioned and possibly Yiddish) I told him that the owner/trainer likes people to get in shape. That's not only how he makes money but he communicates his passion for fitness to people. I admire this guy even though I haven't met him. I see him running around town. I think according to his name he might be Nigerian (At least it's a common name I hear from people from Nigeria). He started his business during Covid, kept it running during the pandemic-people were exercising outside the studio and it's still in business.
