The discovery of the message contributed to a chain of events that ultimately led to Mr. Carlson's firing. In the message, sent to one of his producers in the hours after violent Trump supporters stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, Mr. Carlson described how he had recently watched a video of a group of men -- Trump supporters, he said -- violently attacking "an Antifa kid." It was "three against one, at least," he wrote. And then he expressed a sense of dismay that the attackers, like him, were white. "Jumping a guy like that is dishonorable obviously," he wrote. How much of Fox's vanishing audience does Newsmax's doubling represent? If Fox lost 1.5 million viewers but a doubling at Newsmax represents a net addition of 1 million viewers, that probably means that 500k have dropped out of the cable news market.
That's good, if true. An actual *shrinking* of the cable news audience (rather than a reshuffling) would be a net positive.

This doesn't surprise me. People will stick with a channel if they like one show, they'll check out other stuff before and after their favorite. But once they get annoyed with it or lose their favorite (especially in a stupid way) show, they walk away entirely. Why watch anything else on the channel, particularly if they've been annoying you already?

This was never about ratings. They *knew* ratings would go down as a result of this. I doubt they were expecting a free fall like this, but they knew ratings would decline.
This was about clearing the decks and getting rid of public dissidents who counter the preferred narrative. That means getting rid of Carlson (and to a lesser degree Bongino), whatever the cost. The lawsuit probably did actually have something to do with all this, too, but it's hard to make that argument when it comes to Carlson.

A great deal of our society now views news through a new lens. We understand it's all infused with propaganda intended to elicit a response, because none of it is even fact-based anymore.
So people don't really read stories and become suddenly shocked by the revelations anymore. They see the intent of the story, not the substance of it.
In this case, the vast majority people that enjoyed Carlson's presence in the information realm don't care. They follow him because they believe his intention is to bring to light dissident views based on facts instead of narrative.
Unless they can produce a live boy or a dead hooker, it's all a waste of time and space. Fox News is now the drunken, whore ex-wife slurring out her tales of how unbearable her husband was to a bar full of people that only see an aging, drunken slut that they find increasingly annoying.

However, as witnessed with my parents, Tucker covered stories they had no way of ever accessing given their non-use of social media. Anyone ever make their own beer? I did it a few times. It was a pain in the ass and cost a lot of money. But it was something interesting to do and the beer wasn't bad, either. Definitely better than Bud Light.

Yeah to the best of my knowledge he's just suspended, not fired. Why do it that way? Probably because he has a non-competitive clause in his contract that freezes him out from ANY work if he's not working for Fox. According to one of the talking heads on Newsmax last week, they don't generate as much revenue at 8 pm cuz of scaredy cats not wanting to have ads on the top rated show on fox. So, IF they were back at 2 + mil fairly soon, about the same ad revenue.
I am convinced, just like A.B. they thought they could weather this storm (ala Bill O'Reilly) Plus, the Murdochs are swimming in moola....how much do they really care? They want to make Fox CNN circa 1995. Then sell for many billions...
That's why everyone needs to never drink Bud Light again (Hey its #1, someone's drinking it) and not watch Fox again too...

So I can tell that no one here seems to really understand employment contract law - but everyone at Tucker's level has a "non-disparagement" clause, one to essentially prevent what everyone is speculating just happened to The Tucker Carlson Tonight" show employees - Fox can't fire and prevent Tucker or about everyone under him from pursuing or preserving his reputation in the industry - and he can't prevent Fox from doing the same. Unless either party can claim that clause void in court, and there is usually a huge list that voids that - none of which anyone has heard of yet - ie it ain't private texts to buddies or leaked private emails to NYT/Wapo/abc/cnn and NBC buddies.

I know I'm late to this one, but I don't think this is possible anymore. It used to be the case that all kinds of people were grabbing off the satellites all the off-the-air interchanges between field reporters and the network, for example. But, after they got embarrassed by a few too-candid moments, everyone started scrambling (encrypting) those off-the-air feeds. Some outlets even scramble the on-the-air feeds, because they want everyone to pay for the direct feeds now.

Any lawyer who knowingly participates in a crime loses all attorney client privileges, as do their clients. These same anti Trump/Tucker lawyers just got that affirmed to "Get Trump". Requiring ALL email, phone, text, personal correspondence and conversations to be fair game to investigate to see IF any crime had been committed. I hope every outlet that ran these stories gets sued IMMEDIATELY and all communications seized.
