I was trying to send an update to the prayer list handled by the estimable "Annie's Stew" but I missed the deadline, so here's an update-sort of. The township committee open space met in closed session, but I don't know what they discussed and the head of Trustees hasn't gotten back to me yet. Anyway, thanks again to everyone who very kindly and generously sent something to our church. I was touched and the church was very moved by people they don't know helping us And just a note; I didn't ask for donations; It was the thoughtful, bright spirit "Salty Dawg" who contacted people. Anyway, I am in the process of sending out thank you notes. Unfortunately, I neglected to write "Thank you sent" on the envelopes" so if you don't get a thank you by the end of next week (mail is kind of unreliable) please contact me at FenelonDirection18 at sign dot com and send your address and amount sent and I will send something out again. Also, if you get a duplicate thank you for the same reason, forgive me and just know that I am extra thankful.

I was interested to see that the Pope (I know, I know) is meeting with the head of the Egyptian Coptic Church, praying together, etc. The article said that St. John Paul II had already resolved the Christological dispute during the 1990s and that remaining issues have to do with forms of practice and such.
Digging into the links of the article, I saw that for the last 30 years, a number of Eastern Rite churches have entered into communion with Rome, and resolving the schism with Alexandria would be a pretty big deal. It goes back a looong way. Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd at April 22, 2023 09:33 AM (llXky) 67

In 2018, Humphries faced backlash for making comments considered to be transphobic. The comments included referring to gender affirmation surgery as "self-mutilation," and transgender identity as a whole, as a "fashion-how many different kinds of lavatory can you have?" The comments prompted the Barry Award, a comedy festival award in Melbourne named after the comedian, to be renamed the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Award the next year.

Wreckage from Australia's worst maritime disaster found after 80 years
The wreckage from the maritime disaster that killed more Australians than any other has been found, more than 80 years on. The shipwreck of the Montevideo Maru was found more than 4000m below the surface of the ocean off the coast of the Philippines. [...] An estimated 979 Australian troops and civilians died when the Japanese transport ship was torpedoed by a US submarine during World War II. The prisoners-of-war were being transported to Hainan in occupied China on the Montevideo Maru. Unaware of who was aboard, the USS Sturgeon torpedoed the vessel. The ship took just 11 minutes to sink. Posted by: andycanuck (Vwz3I) at April 22, 2023 09:59 AM (Vwz3I) 106

I rarely carry a purse but when I need to I don't have one. I don't like most of the cheap Chinese crap offered at Wal-Mart and won't spend money on the expensive Chinese crap offered at Kohl's. I'm trying to make one myself with wood sides and fabric lining. I'm not confident about my electric saw skills so Hubbymayhem has been drafted for this part. Like a lot of other absolutes, I've let "always respect your elders" go. More now than ever, some simply do not deserve it and will attempt to take advantage of the opportunity. Posted by: Hairy Handed Gent at April 22, 2023 10:24 AM (5tJAN) --- Right, so I didn't have that information when I speculated, did I? Even so, my point stands. So he skipped ahead in line, so what? What harm did everyone really suffer? The problem with "there are no absolutes" is that pretty soon, everything is an exception. "Respect your elders" becomes "respect them when it's convenient," which becomes "never." The whole point of respect is that it isn't cost-free. Again, I've love to live in a society were people just waved the elderly to the front. Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd at April 22, 2023 10:34 AM (llXky) 175

I would love to see more Christian unity. That's the way that it should be. That being said, even my devoutly Catholic friends are wary of Francis. There are a number of Eastern Rite "churches" that have been part of the Catholic church for ages - Ukrainian, Maronite, Melkite, etc. - but as far as I know, they have been part of the Catholic church for ages. What's troubling, as an Orthodox Christian, is seeing the Patriarch of Constantinople cozying up to the Pope. Again, not that it wouldn't be great if the Great Schism could be healed, but both Francis and Bartholomew are globalists and the two of them working "jointly" makes me very, very nervous. I'd be really interested in what they say are the remaining doctrinal differences. I mean, they've been squabbling for over a millennium, so what has changed?
I know that between the canonical Eastern Orthodox and various Oriental Orthodox churches, there has been discussion, and at least with one or two of them that the "big" issues have been mainly due to translation issues. The Ukrainian Catholic Church is interesting, because it very much looks and feels like Orthodoxy. On the other hand, they acknowledge the Pope as the head of the Church, and although they basically tend to their own matters, they ultimately have to listen to Rome. One of the reasons the Eastern Rite churches lost tons of adherents to the Orthodox in the United States about a century ago (and probably led to the American Carpatho-Russian diocese) is that Rome ordered that Eastern Rite priests in the US be unmarried, like the Roman rite priests. Most Eastern Rite priests in the old country are married, and this was a huge affront to them. A lot of the "Russian Orthodox" outside of the big cities were actually Ukrainians, Ruthenians, Slovaks, etc., and the Orthodox priests ministered to them. I'm skimming Deadline Hollywood and reading comments there (I don't recommend doing that) but one stuck out that I thought was funny.

Right. The Filoque is kind of a big doctrinal deal, so I don't see how one squares that circle. Posted by: Archimedes at April 22, 2023 11:27 AM (eOEVl) 249
I'll bet. Posted by: Archimedes at April 22, 2023 11:30 AM (eOEVl) 250
Mike Miller and Joe Cunningham of RedState.com love them some Ron Desantis, so much that they shill constantly for Saint Ron, even when he's not in the news. These two fools (espcially Miller, the man who sites Yahoo News as a trusted source) never seem to acknowledge that 2020 was stolen by illegal means and yet highlights St. Ron in an article today, where the FL Governor ADMITS it is what the Democrats do and will likely do in 2024. Miller is an idiot and Cunningham? Well, he's just himself. Enough said!

It wasn't all the Filioque, either. It is a big deal, of course, but it's a little bit more sticky than that. Apparently, it was introduced to try to tamp down some heresy that was cropping up in France and Spain and... the Eastern churches weren't *completely* against it, but much less liked the manner in which it was being "evolved" into doctrine.
Recently, I've read two people who have recommended Timothy Patitsas' recent book "The Ethics of Beauty". He's the dean of the Greek Orthodox seminary in Boston. Basically any Greek Orthodox priest educated in the US goes there. He's written that he'd like to see the Creed be universally adopted without the filioque or amended to this:"And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of Life, Who proceeds from the Father in order to rest upon and shine out through the Son, anointing Him in time as the Christ, the Holy One of Israel, and eternally as the Son of the Living God." I'm no theologian, so I don't have much of a comment on that, but it's interesting... A lot of the "big" issues now come from what the Orthodox now considered more or less invented doctrine of more recent times such as papal infallibility. I will pray to you, Paul and not to malignant narcissists-Soros, Schwab and Gates and the rest of the WEF who think of themselves as little gods in their wish to control people. If your agenda is progressing you don't seem like a very happy person.

Bah!, NOT pray TO you, Paul (You're no God) but FOR you. It's kind of sad life to be reduced to trolling on a conservative site. Go volunteer at a food pantry or something, or deliver meals on wheels.
