Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | The Democrats' Scheme to Replace Dianne Feinstein on the Judiciary Committee, Temporarily, Requires Republicans to Assent to the Scheme. They Should Refuse that Assent. It is an open secret that Dianne Feinstein is even more mentally incapacitated than Joe Biden. But she hails from a one-party state, and that party has been covering up her dementia for a decade. She's 89. Just a few years older than Biden. She's now been out of the Senate for six weeks due to shingles, and Democrats are calling for her resignation, as, without her vote on the Judiciary Committee, they can't pass through all of Biden's unqualified leftwing diversity checklist picks. She refused to resign -- or her handlers refused on her behalf, wanting to keep their jobs -- but allowed that she would deign to someone replacing her on the Committee on a temporary basis. But, Christopher Bedford points out, that scheme requires Republicans to cooperate. And they should refuse that cooperation.Republicans have the power, too: Committee assignments are decided at the beginning of the session, either by unanimous consent or, if contested, by the vote of at least 60 senators. Democrats certainly hope they can just brush this through under the former, but what reason does Sen. Josh Hawley, or maybe Sen. Mike Lee, or Sen. J.D. Vance have to let that one pass them by? Then if one senator says no, the whole thing's got to come to a vote, and while people like Sen. Mitt Romney might be happy to fill benches with left-wing judges in the name of "decency" or some other principle long ago extinguished by left-wing activists, getting nine other Republicans to join him might prove more difficult.I'm less and less interested in what the indecent Pierre Delicto thinks constitutes "decency."

Huh. Never knew committee assignments required 60 votes (if UC not obtained). Then again, wasn't my area, and as I recall back then unanimous consent (simple voice vote procedure on the floor) was all that was ever required to rubber-stamp the caucuses' committee assignments.
If it were the House, I could imagine (barely) the GOP not playing ball here (they're acting scared, though in such a transparent/amateurish fashion that it's actually comical). Senate? LOL. 39 Huh.
Senate? LOL. However the 60-vote requirement could be a thing. Posted by: rhomboid ------ If the GOP was serious about stopping Biden and the Dems instead of joining in on looting the Republic, a sole senator can gum up the works and stop the Senate simply by refusing to consent. Committee assignments can be changed via the initial agreement but it requires unanimous consent. Failing that, debate and a vote--since it is not subject to the special rules of reconciliation, then it can be filibustered unless the Dems carve out another filibuster exception via appeal to the ruling of the chair motion. What is the "value" of a dollar ? At this point, just mass faith in its meaning. My point being, other than a very small government - compared to a very large yet still tame mob - trying to use more carrot than stick ? Nothing. There is no intrinsic value to a dollar. Its all just dirty paper. In some ways, I wonder why this bunch of elites is bothering to care. Just void the currency and go full command economy. Introduce another coinage. In 1985, when the first elected civilian president in nearly 20 years was set to take office in Brazil - after a long military government - the president-elect suffered a heart attack on his inauguration day. He then spent about a month at the country's premier cardiac care institute before dying. The whole time, there were "bulletins" ever hour on Brazilian TV about his status - which was reported, cryptically and increasingly, as "fine".
The whole farce led to Brazilians referring to the president-elect as "Chernenko brasileiro" - a sarcastic reference to the then-ongoing parade of elderly infirm Soviet general secretaries, and the infamous lack of straight info about their condition. Reasonable, but given all of the evidence we've already seen of the Biden family corruption and the fact that Treasury has been hiding these SARs for 2 years I have less trouble believing MTG. She seems to remember who is attacking her and what their motives are. She knows she is on the judiciary committee. She seems to know what is required to nominate judges on that committee. Maybe the whisper campaign about her memory is overblown. The Senate has not been in session for much of that time She has missed very few actual work days. The big issue is her memory issues? That isn't an issue at all. She knows how to press aye/nay and she has a great staff to assist her with the party's position Would you say that about Pennsylvania and Fetterman?
