35 Shinnecock Hills Golf Club is a links-style golf club located in an unincorporated area of the Town of Southampton on Long Island, New York, situated between the Peconic Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.[4]

Shinnecock Hills is believed to be the oldest incorporated golf club in the United States (1891), to have the oldest golf clubhouse in the U.S. (1892), and to have been the first American golf club to admit women members, which it did from the start. It is also the only golf course to host the U.S. Open in three different centuries.

Shinnecock Hills is a founding member of the United States Golf Association. It has hosted several important events, notably five U.S. Opens, most recently being the 2018 event won by Brooks Koepka. It is scheduled to host a sixth in 2026. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.[5][6]

It is routinely ranked as one of the greatest golf courses in the world.[7]

Willie Davis, the club professional from the Royal Montreal Club, designed a 12-hole course that opened in late summer 1891.[8] Members of the Shinnecock Indian Nation helped build the course,[9][10] which sits on the large expanse of land the Nation claims was illegally taken from them by earlier settlers of the area in 1859. At the 2018 U.S. Open, members of the Nation protested the event, noting that several burial sites were desecrated during the courses' construction.[11]

50 In 1892, I'd guess, people took a railway out to the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club? Some early adopters of cars would have used their vehicles, but the lack of roads might have been a deterrent.

"Why were you late for tee time, old man?"

"Broken axle."

"Ah. A gin and tonic, then?"

72 This is a really effective painting. Chase captured that sky so well and the subdued browns of the land are realistic but not dull. The layout of the piece with that curving road draws the viewer's eye.

His Wiki page said he was considered to be an Impressionist. This doesn't strike me as that, at least compared to Monet. Perhaps the way paint is applied becomes more apparent as it is studied longer.

113 I like the use of purple here. He uses it in the far distance that helps push the hills back in space. It opens up the painting and gives it depth. He then dots the foreground with that same shade of purple. This time, it contrasts with the green/yellow/tan of the landscape and defines the fencing. It's a nice use of a difficult color.

I just watched a YouTube reaction video of a young Scottish woman watching Predator for the first time:
https://youtu.be/wl2KHK_HSqg

Very funny how confused she got-

The movie starts with a spaceship dropping a pod on a planet (eart), but she wasn't clear the planet was earth, or the spacecraft alien

They find the downed helicopter, and say 12 guerrillas took two hostages. Apparently, she only knew the word "gorilla", and was confused and excited to see Planet of the Apes style gorillas.

When the Predator-vision comes up, she assumes it's the gorillas watching them, and she's like "that's not how gorillas see, is it?"

And that's all in just the first few minutes...

The blog is the face of a network of pro-Kremlin social-media, podcasting, merchandise and fundraising accounts. But the person who hosted podcasts as Donbass Devushka and oversees these accounts is a Washington-state-based former U.S. enlisted aviation electronics technician whose real name is Sarah.

334 226. Circling back. New car smell linked to cancer-causing chemicals was also reported a long, long time ago but then dispelled or simply ignored with advice to leave windows cracked open.

Now, a redo with the Daily Mail (and many others) reporting on 4/14, The new car smell is caused by volatile organic compounds given off by leather, plastic and vinyl.

"Researchers at Harvard University and the Beijing Institute of Technology monitored the concentration of 20 common chemicals in the air inside new cars while they were left parked outside for 12 days in a row."

It'll be fine. No A/C for certain vehicles & great filtering of air for others in use likely down the road. (And no AM radio at all so no one will be listening to those pesty, political talk shows either.)

Three reasons:

1. They drive with their seat all the way back and can't see over the driver's wheel.
2. They pimped out their car and their tires, wheels and suspensions suck.
3. They drive too fast while they are HAF.
