Good morning and Happy April. Before we get into things just a few simple reminders: 1) Opine and/or bloviate away in this open thread.

AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update. Prayer Requests: 3/1 – Inogame asked for prayers. He had come to the Horde after his wife miscarried 2 years ago, and appreciated our prayers and kindness. They were blessed with a little girl later that year. Now they are in the same situation. They have lost another baby and need prayers against the sorrow and depression. 3/7 - Pookysgirl sends a prayer of thanks that Pooky has been approved for SSDI benefits, and designated as 100% disabled by the VA, which doubles his monthly benefits. This means they are not in such a desperate financial situation, and it marks the end of a two+ year battle with bureaucracy. 3/11 – Jasonj asked for prayers for Barbara, his wife, to be added to the list. She had back surgery recently, and is healing well, but has a long road ahead. Also please add Alex, his son, who is a quadriplegic with a serious addiction to pain meds. 3/11 – Free Tibet asked for prayers for his friend JR, who is undergoing treatment for pancreatic cancer (neuroendocrine version). Thanks to the Horde for everything. 3/15 – Fenelon Spoke asks for prayers for the church she serves – that if it’s God’s will that their financial problems might be resolved through one of several options, so they can continue to be open to the Glory of God, the lifting up of Jesus Christ, and the support of the church community, some of whom have attended there for decades. She thanks the people who have prayed. She also asks for prayers for FenSon, who is having interviews for a college summer internship on 3/21. Prayers that he does his best and that someone would be open to his skills and interests. And prayers are still appreciated for Jessie, their dear church organist, for complete healing.
3/23 Update: There is hope that an organization may buy some of the church’s land, which would help their financial problems. Please keep praying for God’s will do be done in that situation. Also, Jessie is doing better. She hopes to be able to play some for Easter. Prayers are also needed for Ray, who broke his hip and is in rehab. 3/15 – NJ asked for prayers for his wife Christina. She had surgery in December which resulted in CRPS (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome) in her right foot. The pain is interfering with her daily activities and preventing her from sleeping properly. 3/15 – Half Dozen asked for prayers from the Horde. One of her adult sons was diagnosed with a brain tumor. They are still evaluating him to decide next steps. It will probably involve brain surgery.
3/19 Update: Her son is in the hospital, and scheduled for surgery to remove the tumor that is at the point where the spinal cord connects into the brain. They have determined that the tumor has not spread to other areas of his body. Thanks for the prayers and friendship. 3/15 – Tcn in AK, Hail to the Thief asked for prayers for DH, who goes under the knife on Friday to remove an old stim from his spinal column. This will allow him to have an MRI, to figure out what to do about his 3 collapsed disks. Prayers, but optimistic prayers at this point. 3/16 – Cybersmythe continues to request prayers for his friend D.C., an occasional reader of the AoSHQ, who is in the hospital after having a stroke and some other health issues.
3/27 Update: Cybersmyth’s friend has died, so he requests prayers for her family and that her soul finds its way home. Cybersmythe has also been laid off and requests prayers from the Horde to find something new. 3/18 – Megthered asks that the Horde would keep her and her family in our thoughts and prayers. Her husband has to have open heart aortic valve replacement and her daughter has been diagnosed with lymphoma. They are being treated at Ohio State University and the family has rallied around them. 3/18 – gp asks for prayers for Al, who is homebound, needy, and lonely. He also asks for prayers for Brian, who is afflicted by the horrible maladies of old age. 3/20 – Ladyl asked for prayers for her son, who was hospitalized for a serious infection that happened after a minor injury. 3/22 – Sal asked for prayers for her sister’s ex, who became very ill while away from home (at his daughter’s destination wedding). He is in ICU with sepsis and kidney function problems. 3/29 – Notsothoreau asked for prayers for her co-worker, C. He is a young guy and the new management is grinding him down. Prayers that he can quickly find a new job where he is appreciated. 3/30 – Hrothgar asked for prayers on behalf of Ed L., who is a member of the Moron Gun Club. Ed’s mother passed away in Hawaii this past weekend. He and his brother will be busy settling her affairs there (in Hawaii) over the two weeks or so. He did get to see her over the Christmas holiday, which was a blessing. For submission guidelines and other relevant info, please contact Annie's Stew, who is managing the prayer list. I get what you're going for here, but in reality, yanking is incorrect. Forceps are used when the second stage of vaginal delivery is held up by failure of the baby's shoulder to clear the pelvic rim. The procedure involves relieving shoulder dystocia by carefully applying the forceps and exerting a firm but steady downward force to allow the shoulder to ease its way past the pelvic rim.

I have been reappointed to my church for another year for an appointment season that starts in July, yet my boss won't give us time to hear from the agency that said they would buy our land. He must hear from them within two weeks or we'll be shut down. It is not our polity to have a top heavy decision like this without consultation . I think we were on a list of small churches that needed to be closed because they need the money and it doesn't make any difference that other churches which are more in the hole on their denominational
Dues are allowed to stay open. I don't think the care about the dear people who will be impacted by this. They just want the money. I am livid.

In the middle of all the change & stress with moving my mom in with me, we had a fantastic evening yesterday. Took her over to her house to check on things, and pick up some things (mostly her rocking chair, and I grabbed her favorite pic of my brother & me back when we were cutie patooties - she can't be mad at those little faces). She didn't argue with me to stay there. On the way back we had a great talk and when we stopped for dinner, we were laughing and joking like we usually do.
The sad thing was, she asked me something about Jesse but didn't remember he had died.
Tomorrow I may be ready for the loony bin, but I'm grateful we can still have fun together.

I read something interesting, if true.
All lamb meat is grass-fed exclusively because sheep won't eat feed.
So, in theory anyway, including more lamb in your diet is a healthier way to eat because of the better fats and vitamin content produced by exclusive grass eating.
Which makes lamb "more healthy" than beef for those of you with cholesterol issues. Though I suppose eating exclusively grade-fed beef would be much the same thing.

I read something interesting, if true.
All lamb meat is grass-fed exclusively because sheep won't eat feed.
So, in theory anyway, including more lamb in your diet is a healthier way to eat because of the better fats and vitamin content produced by exclusive grass eating.
Which makes lamb "more healthy" than beef for those of you with cholesterol issues. Though I suppose eating exclusively grade-fed beef would be much the same thing.

I have been reappointed to my church for another year for an appointment season that starts in July, yet my boss won't give us time to hear from the agency that said they would buy our land. He must hear from them within two weeks or we'll be shut down. It is not our polity to have a top heavy decision like this without consultation . I think we were on a list of small churches that needed to be closed because they need the money and it doesn't make any difference that other churches which are more in the hole on their denominational
Dues are allowed to stay open. I don't think the care about the dear people who will be impacted by this. They just want the money. I am livid.

In my report instead of giving a estimate based on numbers, I simply said "The church will close when the Lord wants it closed, but if we are faithful he will provide, be it here or in another fellowship of believers. But I think we have a purpose, and it is to praise Him and spread his gospel of good news."
Several members weren't really happy with that analysis. But I told them the numbers were in front of them and if they wanted a different analysis then they could see our losses would close the doors in 6 months.
They started asking about selling the building and other things. I told them the board would take these things into consideration, but in the meantime, would somebody like to volunteer to clean the building? And I volunteered myself for lawn maintenance.
And gradually the congregation began doing things that ordinarily cost the church money. And then they began giving more in the plate....

The divorce is dragging on, and I can't really say much of anything, which leads to the cryptic posts. Oldest daughter (13) holds a lot of anger, and almost got herself in trouble from running her mouth in public. I'm working on finding her help, but these days, one never knows with the crazy nuts who call themselves "therapists".
I had a wonderful break a couple of weeks ago - the first in longer than I could remember. Definitely want to do something good for the soul like that again.

I did some active shooter training at our local community college and was stunned at the protocol. Hide in a corner? Dafaq?
I told them I would absolutely not die cowering in a corner. I will take out the assailant, with my pocket knife if I have to or die trying. Had a couple of WOT vets in the class with me who were of the same mind set. We spent the rest of class instructing/discussing the OODA loop and how with the right mindset one can take out an armed individual with any or no weapon at all.

Pinking shears are the ones that make the zigzag cuts. This helps keeps fabric edges from unraveling. Regular sewing scissors cut straight.

I did want to tell a funny story-I think-about the 90 year old Korean Navy vet-the congregation patriarch- who is in rehab after having a hip replacement He's always been a very active fellow so he's-understandably not happy about being in rehab. When I went to visit him this week, he pushed the button to call the nurse by mistake and when she came in and said and asked, "What do you need?" he replied, "I need a beer." The nurse and I and the other 90 year old visiting him all laughed. She said she would bring him a beer when he got out.

This notion of being "triggered" by things you don't agree with is ridiculous and needs to be eradicated, as well as the notion that speech the left doesn't like is "hate" and/or violence. But constant barrages of emotional and psychological abuse against a kid - generally verbal in nature - can have both immediate and long-term effects worse than just getting slapped around.

Greetings hordelings!
Here in southern Indiana it's another lovely day in paradise! Deadly tornadoes hit last night in Sullivan, Gosport, and Whiteland. McCormick Creek state park took a direct hit and some hardcore early campers got clobbered.
The boy spawn and his lady got some minor damage in Spencer.
Here on Mayhem hill we got some vicious wind but no real damage. A few loose shingles flapping around but nothing serious. Our problems come from a water heater that refuses to light and septic tank that had to be pumped out.
The tank is clear and the chore of refilling the hole dug to get to the lid beckons. It's cool and still windy. Hubbymayhem is going after the water heater.
Maybe it's all just a very elaborate, sick and twisted April fools day joke.

193. I agree here. Baby lambs nurse and are eventually transitioned onto a hard feed that includes vitamins and minerals. Sheep feed is specially formulated because unlike other farm animals they are very sensitive to copper and sheep feed does not have that added.

It can because it gives the kid a sense of respected self, even if they lose the fight.
We moved a lot when I was a wee tad, so I got to belly up to the bar and get into punch ups and I'm not a tough guy at all. But, some things must be done. However, most things don't require violence.
It's why I'm not haunted by the memory of bullies as some are, even those past 29. Well, there is one bully who took the punching me almost daily in the arm when I broke my arm. But, we moved before I healed and he didn't get his well-deserved and earned multiple punches in the nose and "bread-basket".

I have produced a million of something in my lifetime - in manufacturing. Even a small item in that volume in high speed production takes an incredible amount of time to produce. A passive aggressive action against a certain agency in tens of millions (I'm thinking 71 million - like Trump votes) would bring it, and the entire government to its knees. People simply can not key in once (or even worse, twice) millions of forms even using the latest of technology in anything even remotely close to that level.
Or, deliver George Soros back to the countries that seek his extradition. Seems like a fair deal. April 15th is coming. File for an extension, then begin Operation Overload. Nobody on this side started this fight, but if no one is backing down, it's on. Or should be.

To get inside a shooter's OODA you would have to do something unexpected so that they need to reset and you hope that their response doesn't get inside yours.
Since we are talking about a deranged mind, its hard to anticipate an action that would likely accomplish the first goal. Do people in the room start hurling books and chairs at the assailant assuming that the perp isn't expecting an immediate return attack? To some degree, FPS games ought to condition people into taking fire, and the fact that soft targets are preferred by the perp indicates that they anticipate a counter-offensive.
Security really needs to be in layers, and the best security includes obscurity in to what layers are being implemented.

Good morning! Humans keying in data will make a certain percentage of errors, no matter how good you are at keying in things. In 1999 I got a huge fine and a revised return from the IRS. It took me a year to clear it up. The problem? A 1099 form where an IRS agent keyed in a couple of extra zeroes. Didn't cost me any money, but a lot of lost sleep and anger lasting a year.

I think one reason why cops and teachers and the like won't put their skin on the line is that well, frankly, life is too good for them. Great salaries, terrific benefits, always being lauded and showered with awards for merely doing the job they trained to do--that is when they actually do it.

There was a caution notice I read sometime in the past two weeks about printing paper forms, filling them out by hand, scanning them in, and then trying to e-file them.
Seems going that route increases the e-file rejection rate as the variations in form size and legibility causes them to be rejected at the IRS' end.
Either go all electronic and e-file, or stay all paper and mail it in.

My old house was on the edge of the Italians and the Irish, and, of course, both groups had their own Catholic churches. The Germans had theirs, the Lithuanian theirs, the Poles theirs, the Ukrainians their, and so on, so on. It seemed like there was a Catholic church every couple of blocks. But the kids grew up, moved to West O, and when the parents died their houses were sold to rental companies. As the Catholic population in East O shrank, the arch diocese had to start closing and selling off these older, underutilized churches.

We actually got three new attendees (One of whom joined) during the past three years because their churches either closed too long during Covid or their church closed. I have never had a LBGT flag at any church I served, and I would have had to have lost my marbles is Jesus wasn't mentioned repeatedly in every worship service I offciate at. It would be helpful to have live streaming or have me be more up on internet technology, but I think I'm and "old time" pastor..

Some of the churches have brought this on themselves. Locking people out during the early days of the pandemic, forcing masks, no singing, no contact with each other during or after services, then the acceptance and celebration of all things gay...... in the name of love, of course.

And I cannot for the life of me telling people they shouldn't sing. Singing is a huge part of the history of our denomination.
