Anthony Fauci Has Been Charging $100,000 Per Speaking Engagement So That People Can See Science In the Flesh
Plus: Study Finds Ugly People Are Most Addicted to Wearing Masks Forever

The griftiest government bureaucrat is grifting even more since his retirement.

Dr. Anthony Fauci was chastised online on Sunday after critics discovered that the retired NIAID director, who was once the highest-paid federal U.S. government employee, is charging up to $100,000 for speaking engagements.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' rapid response director Christina Pushaw on Sunday tweeted a screenshot from the Leading Motivational Speaker's Agency's website, which lists Fauci as a "motivational" and "health care" keynote speaker with a price tag that ranges from $50,000 to $100,000.

The website describes Fauci as someone "who's career warrants execution under immense pressure that can alter the course of human existence. His work on domestic as well as global health issues has saved millions of lives. This high level of research, discovery and execution is amazing given the grave challenges he faces on a daily basis," the agency writes.

I agree with part of that statement.

By the way it's "whose" not "who's."

In closely-related news, a new study proves what we long have strongly suspected: The people clinging most hard to wearing mask forever... are physically unattractive people hiding their ugly mugs.

The Daily Mail:

EXCLUSIVE: Unattractive people are MORE likely to keep wearing face masks in post-Covid era, study suggests

People who consider themselves attractive are less likely to wear face masks

Those who see themselves as less attractive likely beliee masks improve looks

Meanwhile, other major analysis found masks made 'no difference' to infections

Attractive people are less likely to keep wearing face masks in the post-Covid era, a study suggests.

Researchers conducted three questionnaires asking people about self-perceived attractiveness and mask-wearing intentions in various scenarios.

They concluded that young and middle-aged Americans who view themselves as attractive 'believe wearing a mask hinders the opportunities to deliver a favorable impression to others'.

It comes after a major analysis found face masks made 'little to no difference' to Covid infection or death rates.

Initially used for anti-viral protection, the face mask has become one of the symbols of a fierce culture war in the US.

More like an Attractiveness War.

...

Even though President Joe Biden declared the Covid pandemic 'over' late last year, as many as four in 10 Americans still wear masks 'occasionally'.

Researchers from Seoul National University in South Korea wanted to see if self-perceived attractiveness played a role in people's mask-wearing intentions. They carried out three experiments on Americans recruited from Amazon Mechanical Turk, a crowdsourcing website for businesses.

...

Participants scored their facial attractiveness before being asked to imagine a scenario in which they are invited for a job interview at a company they really like.

They were asked to answer the following questions: 'Do you think the interviewers will perceive you as more attractive with a face mask?' and 'If wearing a face mask is optional in this interview session, would you wear a face mask during the company interview?'

People who scored themselves as very attractive were less likely to answer yes. They were also less likely to endorse the belief that mask-wearing enhances their appearance, which further dampened their mask-wearing intention in job interviews.

In an intervening study, 344 people who imagined themselves interviewing for a job at a well-respected company were asked: 'Do you think the interviewers will perceive you as more [trustworthy/competent/attractive] with a face mask?'

People who answered yes to those questions were more apt to wear masks in the interview.

...

The report was published in Frontiers in Psychology.

From discussions I've heard, the feeling is that there is an "adequate" plan in place on MRSA, but that it's very tough to eliminate, and masks would add nothing in prevention.
Now, why that doesn't apply to the less dangerous Covid, I have no idea.

With a mask, all your audience can see (if they are paying attention) is a slight twinkle in your eye and maybe some upturn around the eyes indicating a smile when you make sarcastic comments. They don't fully know if you are just joking or not.

Without a mask, they can clearly tell from your facial expression that you are being sarcastic and they should not take you seriously.

Masks significantly inhibit communication between individuals, just like typing in this comment box.

Seeing someone's face for nonverbal cues is also baked into the cake as far as genetics are concerned so your aversion to someone wearing a mask is also natural.

But, let's face it, if your links were pix of FSA days at Walmart or like Ace's cruelty links are, they would be much less clickable.

It is a human and tragic moral failure to perpetually judge books by their cover. Ugliness due to unfortunate genetics can be remedied somewhat if you have money and willpower--but often those who have neither are worse off. And then envy, another genetically based behavior probably, comes in and in our society is expressed in politics supporting Harrison Bergeron type handicapping of the fortunate.

It made $20 million total, mostly because its theatrical release was extremely limited in favor of a Disney+ release.

And Disney+ lost $1.5 billion last year.

No, "technically" an N95 "mask" is a dust mask, meant to remove 95% of dust particles in the air.
It is not and has never been classified as a respirator.

And no, it cannot filter virus sized particles. Everybody knew that 3 years ago, yet....here we are.

People who wear masks are the "authoritative" compliant types. "We know it all" and follow orders, and like to give orders too. They'll also be the ones that are "all in" on Central Bank Digital Currency. It's so convenient!!!!

I still see these "Karen" types wearing masks. Maybe about 1% of the population around here.

172 I have also believed for some time that many young people in particular have a fascination/dependence on "gear" and feel that having all kinds of equipment dangling off you for any otherwise mundane purpose makes you a person of substance and ability. Or to look at it as making up a deficit, I think there are very many young people who feel deeply insignificant and incapable, who seem to gravitate to "gear" that may make them feel as though they're partaking of something dangerous, difficult or even heroic.

Hence all the Spandex, helmets, flashing thingies on every limb, etc for a simple bike ride. Or people going to the gym sporting all kinds of lanyards and devices to monitor every orifice and vital sign, etc. etc.

So I think that, in addition to the ugly, the fearful and the virtue signalers, another not insignificant stratum of meek, loser, unfulfilled 12-25ers who are addicted to a false sense of "heroically engaging The Pandemic" with their stupid, useless maskies dangling off their chins, ears and wrists.

Never.

The land and property and stuff on it is far too valuable. If they moved anywhere, to justify it financially, it'd have to be relatively cheap land, a lot of it in one place, and near some kind of major metro area.

That rules out...pretty much all of the major cities, especially in blue states. I could imagine them trying to move someplace like Charleston (mid-sized city with a lot of land around it still ready for development), but the weather becomes another factor. Orlando is open 350 days a year, the exception being hurricane days. NJ would see massively reduced traffic for at least 3 month a year because of snow.

I have only a cursory knowledge of evolutionary psychology, but would not be surprised (contra feminist theory) that women are the societal drivers to changing fashions as to what looks good. Probably why religions tried and still do in many cases to regulate fashion.

213 No, "technically" an N95 "mask" is a dust mask, meant to remove 95% of dust particles in the air.
It is not and has never been classified as a respirator.

--

N95s are respirators per OSHA. They're restrictive and can kill people and shouldn't be f*cked around with, which was one of the most disturbing things to watch the government say "Errybody wear N95s!!!"

Well, unless you accept the population reduction hypothesis.

The easy way to remember - and what works most of the time - is two straps respirator, one strap dust mask. Quick random grab from MSU (which I bet ignored their respiratory protection program even though it's clearly written about here)

I've been watching public domain movies from the 1930s-1950s...mostly the b/w "B" movie types. The stories and the acting are superb compared to the dreck that's currently being presented.

253 That study makes some sense, as we are an extremely attractive people from the bridge of the nose upwards, or so we've found out over the last few years.

I don't necessarily think it's ugly people who want to mask, but people with no self confidence. Ive noticed the highest concentration of mask wearers are young Asian girls, a group that is extremely self conscious and who lack a lot of confidence in their looks. So masks afford a way for people to hide what they think are their flaws, but not seem out of place.

254 The Covidians are still out there:

I was at the U of Iowa Hospitals for an ophthalmology appointment in December. I was surprised, but gratified, that they had the mask requirement. We wear masks when we’re out, but most do not. I was at my doctor locally a couple of weeks ago. My wife and I were the only ones masked.

In praise of the mask requirement at my local urgent care!! I know a lot of places no longer require masks.. but a huge huge thank you to the Univ of Iowa medical outlets.. masking up is still on their agenda

In my area, Delaware County PA, Masks are still required in our medical and medical testing facilities. In addition to a mask requirement, my GP's front desk will ask if you've been sick within the last 2 weeks with any respiratory infection and if so, you'll be rescheduled.

I have not had a cold in almost three years, and I chalk that up to masking up because we are out in the public .. at church.. music performances etc. This young man had the cold from hell.. he was just gasping and I think because everyone was masked in that small waiting room, we did not get that cold.

302 Not as well as the original. Domestically, about $500 million, which is a great stand-alone number, but down considerably from the original's $750 million or so. Not sure about overseas numbers on either.

I haven't watched it, but the story sounds even less logical and consistent than the first, there's no Chadwick Boseman to be charismatic (Angela Basset apparently does a great job but she gets killed fairly early on). Its just not as re-watchable and the cultural "emperor's new clothes" pressure to not just watch it but ADORE IT wasn't there this time.

My guess is that if it weren't for the first one being propped up as THE BEST MOVIE EVER MADE AND YOU ARE RACIST IF YOU DO NOT WORSHIP IT then this one wouldn't have broke even.

Like Avatar, the sequel made a lot of money based on "I liked the first one, I'll watch this one too" rather than genuine interest in the film it self. Although Cameron really does know how to make an entertaining movie.

303 The ugly people liking masks is fun and all but not really important. The idiocy of hundreds of millions wearing them, and institutions pretending to believe they had value, is the devastating main story.
Posted by: rhomboid

Back in the 1990's, a guy named Kanan Makye wrote a book about Iraq under Saddam Hussein, called "Republic of Fear". The people were terrified of disobeying Saddam because of his Secret Police (actually, not so secret).
And now, because of Covid, we live in a Republic of Fear. They have made a lot of the population afraid of everything; disease, crowds, each other.
We are now a nation of the fearful.

Posted by: A face in the crowd..... at February 06, 2023 01:46 PM (vcOmj)

304 I'm pretty sure everyone is reading the attractiveness poll incorrectly. It is "People who view themselves as unattractive", not "People viewed as unattractive". The difference is the first one is self-perception - i.e. self-esteem. People with low self esteem are desperate for 3rd-prty guidance and validation. The more they know you, the less likely they will respect your opinion because if you don't like yourself, you can't like anyone who likes you. So the gov't spokesman telling you to mask up is the wise stranger with all of the answers. Hence, self-esteem, not appearance, now drives masking. There are many insecure attractive people.

I've been wondering if that was the real reason. Surely some significant number of people in the health professions know the masks don't help. When we recently visited a healthcare facility, a couple of staff removed their masks when the day crew went home because the enforcement people worked day shifts. One guy said there had been a huge spike in respiratory illnesses among staff ever since requiring masks.

337 Another interesting fact about the Giant Panda. Today, they are considered almost sacred in China and practically a symbol of the country. But that is a recent development fueled entirely by Westerners. Historically, the Giant Panda barely registers in Chinese mythology or history.

Put simply, the Chinese never gave a shit about them. It was Americans and Europeans who "discovered" the Giant Panda and began a fascination with them. The Chinese then realized "hey, maybe we got something here," and repositioned the never-loved panda into some kind of national Chinese treasure.

433 Hang in there, Joan!

-

That song is rough, no joke. The little girls are growing up and can't be around each other, the parents die in a shipwreck, and the youngest daughter is completely grown and has never seen or played with her sister since they were tiny little kids building a snowman and getting in trouble.

The youngest sings it through a keyhole in a door to the older one.

The movie isn't much, but that's a heck of a bridge from childhood to adulthood.

Those require experience. Real, actual, "I have lived some life and seen some things" experience. It also requires talent, of course, but experience matters as well.

Hollywood is *very* insular and a ton of people in writing rooms went from high school to college to Hollywood. They have no real experience to draw from, so instead draw from prior works and then re-interpret them through their very shallow worldview.
