Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Ratings for "Woke" Golden Globes Fell 26% From Previous ShowI wish Andrew Breitbart were here for this. He predicted, back in I like Eddie Murphy and always have. I even like some of his misfires, like Holy Man. But Eddie Murphy's career as a film actor is just too mediocre, and frequently just bad, to warrant a lifetime achievement award. Is he talented? Yes, including as an actor. He's a good actor in the right roles. Has he made good use of that talent? No, not really. He peaked in 1985. Once he had the power to choose his own projects, his career went to crap. Decent actor, bad producer. I was about to write "He finally nailed the black Cary Grant romantic lead he kept trying to make himself into during the 90s in Hitch" but then I remembered, oh right, that was Will Smith. Oops. Does anyone believe he got this lifetime achievement award for any other reason than the Golden Globes' need to give out awards to #Diverse people? No, exactly no one believes this. I don't even think Eddie Murphy believes this. Well, maybe Eddie Murphy believe this. And maybe Joe Piscopo. But that's it. ... "Yellowstone" can now finally stop complaining about getting ignored, too, since Kevin Costner won (by proxy Regina Hall). One of the few black actors on the show. I assume. I don't watch it. If I want to watch a man with a mustache glower I'll just rev my engine at a red light next to a cop. Michelle Yeoh won for "Everything Everywhere All at Once"...So much #Diversity. We swear, it's just working out this way! The popular kids aren't popular any more. So what is the point of them? Update: There was also Brendan Fraser refusing to show up at all (he was nominated for Best Actor in a Dramatic Role for The Whale) because one of the governors is one of the people who sexually abused him a couple of decades ago. Posted by: TheJamesMadison, navigating a corrupt and violent world with Clint EastwoodOof. I knew Brandon Frasier alluded to some kind of sexual something at the hands of a producer or something, but he didn't specify, then, whether he had merely been pressured into sex for a job or actually forced into sex or what. Chris Gore of Film Threat keeps saying that the next big reckoning for Hollywood is the Gay Harvey Weinstein(s) scandal that they they're covering up. Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

The Golden Globes have been plagued by scandal -- specifically, accusations of taking gifts for nominations. Bribery, in other words. The Golden Globes are staged by the Hollywood Foreign Press, so this is, you know, par for the course for journalists.

The Golden Globes have always been the drunker, younger sibling to the Oscars.
They've allowed heavy drinking at the tables for years, and it's essentially just been a party for the elite. If you like the elite, it should be amusing. If you don't like the elite, though... What I found interesting was how the winners weren't even reviewed all that favorably. Normally, these out of touch shows award movies that no one watched, but that the critics really liked. This year, they awarded movies no one watched (e.g., The Fabelmans) and that even the critics weren't wowed by.

Award shows have always been piss poor.
The only thing that even got my attention was the mention of Everything Everywhere All at Once, or otherwise known as Gay Everything Everywhere All at Once, or Why Doesn't Mommy Love Me and My Gayness? An interesting movie ruined by a whiny agenda. Oh, wait. This was about the downfall of awards shows. Good. They suck, Hollywood sucks, and I hope the end is nigh. Eh, I don't mind Eddie Murphy getting a lifetime achievement award. His movies aren't great as a whole, but he's got a lot of name recognition, and has had it for a long time, so sure, why not.

He put up with a lot of shit, hurt himself a lot for The Mummy movies, and really threw himself into the Superman tryout. Since it was Bryan Singer who directed it, I can fill in the gaps and assume Singer tried to take advantage of Fraser who rebuffed him, having enough of being treated like a piece of meat, and he lost the role of a lifetime because of it. If I remember the Frasier story correctly, a gay producer groped him at one of these Hollywood events and demanded to have sex.
Frasier told him to fuck off and later complained to SAG and other Hollywood insiders. They told him to fuck off and that he should have just had sex with the guy. So he went to a reporter and told the story and then his career was spiked. He got depressed and fat and...Hollywood claimed he wasn't cancelled he just got fat. I gotta say, as a veteran journalist, Peter Doocy is really great at asking quick, but really important questions.
Today Doocy asked Biden about the secret documents that were found in his Wilmington, Delaware, garage, six years after Vice President Biden stole them in early 2017. DOOCY: "Classified materials, next to your Corvette? What were you thinking?" BIDEN: "My Corvette's in a locked garage, okay? So it's not like they're sitting out on the street.” DOOCY: "So the documents were in a locked garage." BIDEN: "Yes, as well as my Corvette. The crew of Yellowstone probably hates the source material's culture....regardless they are doing all they can to drive the region as it exists to extinction. To a degree, even though it is an unpopular position I may agree with them there needs to be serious change to the multi-state area around the park. People lose sight that the Feral Givernment "owns" over 57% of the land in the nation and that land lays fallow often put to no economically productive outcome. Couple of notes...
BOWFINGER with Eddie Murphy is an underrated great film, though Steve Martin perhaps is the real star. EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE was dumb. It's the kind of thing the swells believe is elevated, but it's been covered on Star Trek and the big message in the end is be happy with who you are. Brilliant! It was visually striking but thematically confusing and lame. THE WHALE was very good. Not everyone's cup of tea, I get, but I'd rather one hundred of these movies than another big budget piece of garbage. THE WHALE probably cost $500,000 to make. Why doesn't Hollywood use the $200 million they spend on awful Marvel movies and give it to the poor. That's what they are always saying right? Don't build a new fighter jet; give that money to the poor. But then when they want to be capitalists no budget is too big. THE WAY OF WATER??? Please... 505 Last night on TCM: Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry followed by Smokey and the Bandit.
Posted by: J. Frank Parnell at January 12, 2023 12:54 PM (t4BDZ) Proving my point. Entertaining though those are, they do not belong on TCM. Posted by: Mary Poppins' Practically Perfect Piercing at January 12, 2023 01:07 PM (AW0uW) You must be a chick. Chicks know nothing about classic movies, of which Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry is one. Right up there with Vanishing Point and Thunderbolt & Lightfoot. Posted by: Not Enough Lampposts at January 12, 2023 01:13 PM (H7aqi) 513
Don't watch awards shows ever but do try to catch the weekly comedy, Abbott Elementary. (Abbott E is about a fictional school in Philly.) It won a Golden Globe for best comedy series and, it's creator & a primary actor in the series, Quinta Brunson also won an award.

Even though the writer who created The White Lotus is gay, at least he's politically incorrect enough to have made gays the villains in second season. Of course, you might still not want to watch it because of all the full frontal male nudity and graphic gay sex.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has been known for decades to be the least credible of film awards groups. Its membership is about two dozen.
It gained stature because the Golden Globes was known as the best party in town. Posted by: Weak Geek at January 12, 2023 01:20 PM (uDL+I) 516

Makes me doubt Harmeet's sincerity or ability to bring change Posted by: Hands -------- Embrace change, Harmeet could scarcely do worse than Ronna. If you look at the RNC chair race as an episode of the Gong Show, you will be in a better place. Neither will probably be effective but we like Ronna less---GONG!!!! The RNC and its ancillary Conservative Inc though is still spiraling down the drain because they cannot square what big corporation donors want and what their voters want. That is why GOP candidates continue to lie and perform failure theater because they are in service to their donors and not to the voters. The latest is Governor Kemp of GA goes to Davos along with assorted other GOP politicians. That should tell you where his priorities lie. Posted by: whig at January 12, 2023 01:23 PM (bDjBG) 518

519 Costner is the ambassador of the Yellowstone.
He danced with the wolves! Posted by: Dr. Bone --------- I watched one episode and found Yellowstone tedious as I happen to know some real ranchers. Costner is one of those actors who plays himself in almost every movie and for me that wore badly years ago. Posted by: whig at January 12, 2023 01:28 PM (bDjBG) 521
>>>I watched one episode and found Yellowstone tedious as I happen to know some real ranchers.
>I lived, worked and played on the Yellowstone for over 20 years. I knew almost all of the landowners and went to school with their children - my classmates. I don't remember every seeing Kevin Costner there. But I still like the show. Posted by: Dr. Bone at January 12, 2023 01:32 PM (Er3sM) 522

He is no better than Neil Breen, he plays the same trope every role he plays. Sometimes a piece fits those tropes and he is "okay." I rather enjoy "The Highwaymen" where he portrayed Frank Hamer. Other times it is "wha?" like say for example "Draft Day" where he was absolutely not believable as a NFL GM. I have only seen YellowStone twice in passing on trips one was where he was protecting a bear from tourists on his land. Something I doubt he would personally tolerate from a real rancher and the people he would keep funding for election would have objected to given the racial makeup of the tourists. LOL vanishing point...our "boy scout troop" took a bunch of us 10 year olds to see that in 1972? or whenever without knowing. The naked gal emerges at the end and we got an eyeful...wow..
The second group of guys did not get to attend the later showing of the movie...and boy were they disappointed. Posted by: Actually Inside the Beltway at January 12, 2023 02:02 PM (fMhOl) 526
Chris Gore of Film Threat keeps saying that the next big reckoning for Hollywood is the Gay Harvey Weinstein(s) scandal that they they're covering up.
Andrew Klavan says it's an open secret in Hollywood that aspiring actors of both sexes get passed around by everyone with power. Weinstein was just the tip of the iceberg. Posted by: Ace's liver at January 12, 2023 04:07 PM (wGeit) 527
