When I first read about Walter Duranty and the New York Times' handling of the Holodomor--in essence to do what we all agree is unconscionable with regard to the Holocaust--I asked people "Why is the New York Times still allowed to exist?" That is to say, here is an institution that covered for genocide (and more than once!), that never apologized (apart from a low-key "whoopsie" 70 years later on their website), which still purports to be the Source of Truth for the country (if not the world). And setting aside the deaths of millions (much like the Times has), what is wrong with people that the paper is purchased, listened to, still even sets the topics of the day (which is, like, 80% of controlling the media)? Why do people allow it continue on its merry way instead of treating it like Life magazine after it glorified the Attica riots? Which brings me to the topic of Gell-Mann Amnesia, and how it doesn't apply just to newspapers, as the CDC continues its denial of...well, just about everything. At issue today is their denial that they ever prohibited Ivermectin for use against Covid-19. Y'know: Horse paste. You are not a horse, etc.
"They did not say it's prohibited or it's unlawful. They also did not say that doctors may not prescribe ivermectin," Isaac Belfer, one of the lawyers for the government, said during a Nov. 1, 2022, hearing in federal court in Texas.No, they just publicly mocked anyone who disagreed, knowing that various official and unofficial organs at state and local levels would bring the hammer down, and crafting for themselves the exact level of "plausible deniability" our corrupt court system will use to get them off the hook. Which is the way our government works these days. (Y'know: Illegitimately.) Much like the FBI, the Social Security Administration, and 99.99% of the US government, the FDA has no right to exist. The Constitution does not provide for the Federal government deciding who lives and who dies, who can eat what, and what the hell good medicine is. Worse, their actions (and inaction) have long been callous, evil and protectionist beyond the criminal dreams of any mafia. Sharyl Attkisson does yeoman's work on her site, commenting on the stories of the past 20 years that have been buried by the mainstream media, like this one on babies being sacrificed in "reputable" medical studies. But, of course, much like the intelligence agencies' colossal failure on 9/11, the FDA's repeated colossal failure and repressive actions will most likely be used to claim they were right all along, only underfunded. And the GOP will expand their power and budget, and tweet out the next day "Republicans believe in small government!"

Its hard to find. In 1997 Lancet (back when it was at least more respectable) ran a study claiming that there may have been deaths in Nursing Homes caused by a cocktail of drugs including Ivermectin, but they did not give a direct connection.

A New Mexico story in 2021 claimed that several died from abuse of Ivermectin due to kidney failure (overdose, basically), and linked an earlier NYT story stating that the American Association of Poison Control Centers has reported 1,440 cases of ivermectin poisoning in 2021. Again, overdoses, excessive amounts taken.
The stuff a very kindly commenter here sent me when I had the Wuhan Flu had very clearly marked sections on the plunger based on weight, so you could carefully dose yourself. But I could see people just taking too much and getting into trouble.
Nowhere did I find any evidence of anyone getting sick or dying from using the proper dosage.

OK now here's my story. Two weeks after they got it, I got it and was awfully sick as I say. Someone from here very kindly sent me some Zinc and Quercetin (which I added to my daily regimen), and Ivermectin. I started taking Ivermecting and in 24 hours the crud had ended, I was just weak and sickly instead of "Oh Lord Jesus I'm coming home soon". Despite being 2 weeks later than my brothers getting exactly the same strain, I was over it within a day of them.
It was not "getting over it", I was healed by the Ivermectin, period.

Weaselly shit. The FDA didn't tell doctors they couldn't prescribe it, the state medical boards did. The state medical boards did so in response to a combination of pressures from the media and the federal government - yes, including the FDA - and due to the same tyrannical streak that the FDA exhibits. The bans and threats around Ivermectin, prohibition of prescription in certain states and unilateral actions taken by pharmacies to withhold supplies of the drug was done with the full knowledge - and endorsement - of the US federal government and its agencies. They could have intervened. They are the damn regulator. They chose not to.
So no. The FDA did not ban it. The FDA had no means - or need - to do so. They stood on the sidelines and cheered on the decisions to ban it, and gleefully piled on to the Ivermectin hate train and helped provide air cover.
Isaac Belfer, one of the lawyers for the government, can fuck off.

He, like most members of Congress, isn't an intellectual heavyweight. His staff aren't either, and are most concerned with being yes-men long enough to put "Staff to Speaker..." on their resume when applying for lobbying jobs. Their echo chamber spent months telling each other about the coming red wave, so they didn't do anything to shore up actual votes in the chamber for McCarthy. The 20-30 seat majority was a fait accompli, so they horse-traded away all their big bargaining chips early and thought they had the difficult ones (MTG) sewn up. They were wholly unprepared for the process of attaining the Speaker's gavel with a four-seat majority. They have no chips left to bargain, McCarthy's ego won't let him step aside (he already moved his shit into the Speaker's office ffs..) and here we are.

There are probably a number of reasons. I can think of a few off the top my head, including:
1. Widespread use of anti-parasitics, primarily Ivermectin
2. A very young population on average (lower risk)
3. Large amounts of sunshine and high temperatures, and a lot of time spent outdoors (lower risk)
4. Relatively little travel (slower spread)
There are a ton of confounding variables in Africa. Brazil, which studied it comprehensively, is a much better statistical basis for how effective Ivermectin is. Spoiler alert: very.

I remember there was a person doing that and that's great of them. I read some compiled statistics recently that showed ivermectin is just moderately useful as a treatment. But according to the numbers it is unequivocally effective as a prophylactic. Hands down effective throughout study after study as a prophylactic. Nothing even comes close to being as effective.

Thing about Certs was they had a sort of smooth, creamy melt, unlike every other "mint". They called it Retsyn (sp?) it was copper gluconate and cottonseed oil - which I don't think is particularly great, but not horrific in those sort of doses. Tic-Tacs and other more fun packages put them under I suppose. I can't think of any mint that's packaged like Tums or Rolaids any longer. Altoids are much, much stronger.

The FDA defines the best practices and protocols for hospitals. They define what procedures need to be followed. Right from the start their protocols seem to have been designed to maximize use of materials and time. Anyone entering a covid patient's room had to gown up and degown. That is not what you do when you have a ward full of people with the same infection. That is not what you do in an emergency.
This added a lot of misery as patients were left alone to die.

And the world gets Covid and we're told to stay indoors, breathe each other's air.

This is one toke over the line for me.
I think 90% was greed, and 9% incompetence.
All forces were aligned to profit as much as possible - the drug industrial complex, the hospital industrial complex, etc.
There were also forces that jumped on those decisions to steal the election by pumping up the body count, and forces that jumped on all that to seize power. Underlying it all was the total lack of concern for the people they murdered -- true. But it was not a planned murder spree.
The nursing home fiasco goes to my above comment about protocol. The FDA had very strict requirements for covid patients, and gov. paid hospitals for treatment and at some point they had to move them out for convenience.

I can guess at a couple reasons:
Because they needed the panic and not calm, simple solutions

Because they were being paid by Big Pharma to shut down any potential solutions that their new shot would have to compete with (they were working on this long before Trump told them to).

I think it is a bit deeper and more ideological than that.
This was their chance to run The Playbook. The one they've always wanted to try. We have a new disease and this is the Establishment's time to shine in a really big way. They will manage the outbreak, they will develop a vaccine, their scientists will carry the day, they will be heroes, they will be at the top of the heap with the great technocratic victory.
The vaccine was the *only* thing in their plan, and everything else was a threat to that plan. Some other drug that they didn't event in their moment of heroism wasn't desirable.

That's medical negligence to me. Requiring a Covid-19 blood test to screen for active infection would be one thing. Not ideal but defensible as a policy. But this forced inoculation where they know - KNOW - the mRNA inoculation had severe risks and unknown outcomes (not to mention the unethical profit incentives behind the release) is unacceptable.

Early treatment would require Dr. Office visits, and in the early days many Dr.s were panicked that their offices would become vectors. This is standard concern for highly contagious epidemics.
This is why countries set up "fever clinics." But this time around the West followed FDA protocol which would not work with a fever clinic. So early treatment was restricted from three sides - drug companies that did not want a solution before the vax, Medical establishment which did not want to harm office visits, and FDA that did not want to give in on protocols.

It snowed here exactly one day here the winter of 2021-2022. If I remember correctly the blizzard dumped about an 1", most likely a lot less. The schools shut down for a month, and the cops set up armed roadblocks to shoot people driving over 8 mph. It was one of worst times I have ever lived through, but we were determined to face down mother nature and we did.

And i read that a month before, while the government and press were telling me to stop panicking about this virus I hadn't heard about, they regulated that HCQ could not be administered outside of hospitals. They banned a drug that "wasn't going to work" in preparation for a virus that "wasn't going to be a problem".

I agree with this with the following additions.
- The plan was determined early on based on a virulent form of SARS -- 30% mortality, etc. and they never corrected.
- Much of the plan was encouraged by China using cash and pressure. And many were influenced (overt and covert) to think that was the best plan, and conveniently, the most profitable.

So even though the FDA only issues "guidelines" any physician or pharmacist who doesn't follow them will not get reimbursed from the insurance companies, and will be cast out from the licensed community.

Because Trump "touted" it by suggesting that maybe there were some promising therapeutics out there that reputable doctors had reported on anecdotally, and which had incredibly safe drug profiles.
I haven't read them all but most of the well publicized Ivermectin trials have weird and subjective end points such as "time of resolution of mild to moderate symptoms" and establish strange thresholds to "effectiveness" such as a greater than 30% relative risk reduction in mortality. Yet so many drugs and interventions are routinely prescribed for single-digit improvements. Other studies have tiny participant groups, and others (major study in Brazil) major confounders such as including the vaccinated in the study --with I'm sure a strong correlation between those willing to be vaccinated and participating in a study.
It's a dog's-breakfast of meaningless, biased and flawed studies, generated mostly for the top line (misleading) finding of "Haw Haw Ivermectin Stoopid" and similar.
