The Morning Report — 12/1/22

boerswarmusk.jpg

Good morning, kids. Thursday and I give you the bitter irony of oppressed citizens of China and Iran in a life and death struggle for actual liberation while America, the erstwhile beacon of freedom, is moving in the exact opposite direction with nary a peep. That's mostly because the media Mandarins – pun absolutely intended – have done all in their power to silence all protest to the overthrow of our nation and society and culture by the heirs apparent of Mao's Cultural Revolution.

Love him, hate him, indifferent to him, wary of him, or some mix of all of it, Elon Musk's takeover of Twitter hasn't caused this powerful a reaction by the anti-Americans since the near-parallel ascendancy of talk radio and the internet. For good reason; to control the narrative is to control the direction of the nation. In the past 30 years, so many myths about our government and heretofore sacrosanct institutions have been exploded because of new media. That was perhaps the first direct threat to the goal of the post-war "new world order" and the power of those who put us on that path. The election of Donald Trump and then his overthrow four years later was the capstone. And his overthrowing was our overthrowing.

In any case, the genie is out of the bottle and there can be no going back to the way things were. So the gloves are off.

The [so-called quote-unquote "president"] launched into Musk the day after the midterms with a mafioso-style warning that his administration would be investigating whether the 51-year-old billionaire is a “national-security threat” over his purchase of the social-media behemoth. The White House keeps saying ominously that it is “keeping a close eye” on Twitter.

Yet Musk remains intransigent, suggesting at one point this week that he was “going to war . . . This is a battle for the future of civilization. If free speech is lost even in America, tyranny is all that lies ahead.”

In a poll of his 120 million Twitter followers, Musk asked whether he “should publish all censorship actions [Twitter] has taken that affect its customers.” The answer was a resounding “yes,” and so he tweeted tantalizingly: “The people have spoken.”

This is an existential blow to the left’s ability to control the narrative. A lot of secrets are set to be revealed that a lot of powerful people want to remain hidden.

Most important is to reveal details of collusion among the FBI, Big Tech and the government.

This collusion has been the focus of Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt’s numerous lawsuits against the Biden [junta], alleging that White House officials and federal agencies acted with Big Tech to censor “disfavored speakers, viewpoints and content on social-media platforms.”

Emphasis mine, and absolutely 100% correct. It's funny; the first thing out of an anti-American's pie-hole when an innocent person is arrested is "if they're innocent, they have nothing to worry about." Well, the shoe is now on the other foot, in a way. And that is the essence of the First Amendment vis a vis real dictionary-definition journalism. If every criminal in this criminal junta, from the Bidens to Fauci to Pelosi on down are truly innocent as they claim to be, then why are they sweating bullets and screaming at the top of their lungs?

This in a very real way is a microcosm of the anti-Americans across the board. As Rush Limbaugh of blessed memory would always say, "The Left doesn't want to level the playing field. They want to clear it." That's because in an honest, open, fair debate about who and what they are and what they want, they'd lose the argument every time.

Seriously, if you are so strident in your beliefs, then what do you really have to fear if someone who merely disagrees with you is prevented from even stating his case, nearly to the point of being physically assaulted?

Far-left activists reportedly swarmed an event Turning Point USA (TPUSA) founder Charlie Kirk held at the University of New Mexico on Wednesday evening, with protesters calling to “shut down white supremacy.”

“My welcoming committee at University of New Mexico for tonight’s event,” Kirk tweeted along with a video that showed tens of protesters dressed in black, wearing masks, shouting and holding slogans protesting Kirk’s appearance on their campus. . .

. . . Campus police appeared to form a border between the protesters and the event venue, but that did not prevent the activists from continuing to protest.

The activists shouted through megaphones, banged on items, and marched from behind the barrier. Some protesters could be seen waving signs that read “SHUT DOWN WHITE SUPREMACY.”

The list goes into the scores if not hundreds of intellectuals, politicians, artists and thinkers who are even a millimeter to the right of Leon Trotsky who have been hounded, attacked and suffered actual violence up to the point of lethality from speaking on campuses and in public generally. More frightening perhaps than what Charlie Kirk went through is this madness:

The global law firm Hogan Lovells fired a retired equity partner after she spoke positively about the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in a conference call with other female employees, some of whom expressed anger at her, she wrote in a Tuesday Wall Street Journal opinion piece.

Every other speaker on the company call in June, which had been dubbed a “safe space” for women to talk about the decision, decried the Supreme Court’s Dobbs v. Jackson ruling that month, attorney Robin Keller alleged. Keller said she received “immediate” outrage after she pointed out that many jurists and commentators argued Roe v. Wade had been incorrectly decided, opined that sending the abortion issue to states was right and “referred to numerous reports of disproportionately high rates of abortion in the black community, which some have called a form of genocide,” calling this “tragic.”

“The next speaker called me a racist and demanded that I leave the meeting,” Keller wrote. “Other participants said they “lost their ability to breathe” on hearing my comments.”

This person is not an infant, nor an adolescent, nor even a teenager. This is a college and law school graduate, and an adult. Beyond merely having a strong opinion about something, even a strident opinion, to claim that you can't breathe because someone voiced an opinion opposite yours indicates that not merely has their been brainwashing in our schools but in point of fact what can only be described as some sort of sustained, multi-generational mass psychosis.

As I stated above, in an honest, open, fair debate about who and what the anti-American Left are and what they want, they'd lose the argument every time. So, what's the answer? Take over the schools, teach lies as truth from pre-school through post-grad, ???, Profit!

Cutting through the madness of this individual's case of the vapors, if I have to tell a grown adult to "use your words" as to WHY you think Roe v. Wade or any other issue under the sun you believe in is right and someone else's is wrong, then we are well and truly fucked.

This is evil. And it starts at the top. That Nuremberg Rally at Independence Hall last Labor Day wherein half the nation was blood libeled as a cancer to be eradicated is all you need to know. This is why I think that even if this nation were to physically split into two halves, there would still never be peace. If we were to live on a planet at the furthest reaches of the galaxy, they'd build a starship to come and get us. To do so, and to thrive while they devolve into squalor, violence and despair as everything they believe in is instituted turns into hell on earth instead of the worker's paradise, would be intolerable.

In the immortal words of Gracie Slick, "When the truth is found to be lies. And all the joy within you dies." That sure describes my political consciousness-raising the past 10-20 years. What of your average leftist and "their truth?"

Gotterdammerung America.

Gotta love the fight Elon is putting up for free speech in America. I may not agree with him on everything, but this is a fight I can get behind.

If we can preserve this in America there is hope for the country and the rest of the world.

As much as we are sliding into a totalitarian society, witnessed by the cultural purges for wrongthink, is there any country on the planet where there is greater freedom? That is a serious question, because I'm thinking hard about exit strategies.

And no, I don't consider any country under the thumb of the EU to be more free.

41 If Musk really can expose the degree of censorship that is (was) coordinated between fedgov and Twitter that might be news worthy. Especially if he can put the censored content out there with data about who in which agency or bureau coordinated the censoring.

I care less about the staff that is (was) employed at Twitter doing fedgov's bidding than I am about who specifically in the *biden administration was working with them.

If this is possible and Musk does it I don't doubt there will be denials up and down the chain, but it would be interesting to see.

67 Mark Levin was yelling (day ending in "y") about the house freedom caucus holding out on voting for McCarthy and how their action will result in a Dem being elected speaker. Ok, good argument, but why is the freedom caucus holding out (from the "...Poltroonery" link)

That’s a mess partly of McCarthy’s making, given that he’s resisting demands from the House Freedom Caucus to bring the body back to something akin to regular order and to institute some much-needed reforms, banning things like omnibus bills or limiting how much insider stock trading members might engage in. If he doesn’t manage to get the job, it’s on him for failing to meet the standard a growing number of revivalist conservatives in his caucus are setting.

Ok, seems worth it. If we can't get regular order, might as well have a Dem lead the House.

The social networking sites were the solution to the Internet Problem. It worked. They use social nets extensively and they make a tremendous control mechanism. Nothing must be allowed to interrupt it. It's why they'll kill Twitter if they have to, before they allow it to be lost. Better to scuttle the ship and figure out what can be rebuilt than for the ship to be seized.

NEW - Australia shivered through its coldest spring in decades ❄️
From the leftist ABC...
||Spring was the coldest in decades for parts of Australia, a rare feat considering the influence of climate change ensures nearly every season is now warmer than normal. [...]

Melbourne, Adelaide and Canberra all shivered through maximums at least one degree below average and the lowest since 1992. Brisbane's spring was the coldest in 12 years, and for Perth it was the coldest in six.

Sydney's maximums were the lowest in four years but the mean temperatures, which includes the minimums, was the coldest since 2003 and the city failed to reach 30C for the first time in three decades.

Hobart was colder in 2021 and Darwin does not have a spring.

Even more unusual is some western suburbs of Sydney, including Penrith, failed to hit 30 degrees for the first time on record.

This spring was only the second time in a decade the mean maximum averaged across Australia was below the long-term average.||

The war over Twitter is the war for free speech and against censorship from the fascist forces of governments around the world and their oligarch partners. Typical straw man, and an intensely crude and personally hostile one at that. The problem isn't "us," it's the third party that is at risk. People committed to their beliefs and who understand the implications of hateful, racist, anti-progressive disinformation for truth and justice - people like us - cannot be swayed by the despicable rhetoric of people like Kirk.

The persyn in the middle, though - that unaligned third persyn who is merely looking for answers to life's difficult questions - xe is the one who stands to lose everything. That persyn must be defended - even preemptively if need be. We cannot allow xim to be programmed by alt-right racists into a reactionary attitude that endangers not only ximself, but everyone downstream from xim.

Preventing the spread of fascism to the vulnerable, exploited communities that fascists target isn't for our benefit - it's for the benefit of those same communities.

The more important point is that Yellen is way outside of her purview. The treasury secretary has no business, or any say in this. The fact that the treasury is getting involved shows how laws and rules have no place in a corrupt government.

I think for many, Fleetwood Mac was lucky enough to be caught up in that mid-late 70s music style that just got latched onto by my generation. Speaking for myself, what high school kid of the time doesn't associate their music with that period? Who didn't have Rumours? I did get to the point where I can hardly stand listening to it anymore because it was just sooo overplayed.

That's where my nickle is, yeah. Ever since I read the blurb in the sidebar yesterday.

Cook just helped the CCP crack down on its oppressed citizens and then went after Musk at the worst time, when the battle is being waged hugely and governments are getting involved. And given Big Tech's history, I strongly suspect (or maybe I just hope) that Musk has a whole lot of receipts about censorship at Twitter, involvement of the government in it, and overlap with other Big Tech companies like, I dunno, Apple.

Cook didn't just say he's not doing it, he said they never had any plan to do it and it's all just so much fake news. I sincerely doubt that.

Fleetwood Mac had two back to back monster albums, "Fleetwood Mac" in '75 and "Rumors" in late '76.

Maybe one tune off of "Tusk" two years later was a semi-hit. The rest of the album, and it was a double album IIRC was at best disappointing.

To achieve anything in the music biz is an accomplishment and those two albums were huge. That said, did it put them on par with groups that had hit album after album? At least in the hit category, I would vote no. But they were great musicians.

And I am a fan of both Lindsey Buckingham and the late Bob Welch, who also had some big hits with "Sentimental Lady" (a near duet with Christine McVie) and the monster "Ebony Eyes."

Buckingham's "Trouble " is among my favorite tunes.

180 ||Lady Susan Hussey, 83, made the eyebrow-raising remarks to Ngozi Fulani, 61, during an event Tuesday to raise awareness about violence for women, according to the Sunday Times’ royal editor Roya Nikkah.

Fulani, who was attending the event on behalf of the charity Sistah Space, said Hussey — who was made lady of the household by King Charles III — approached her and questioned her about where she came from.

When she replied she was from Hackney, the royal aide allegedly continued to pester her, asking, “No, but what nationality are you?”

“I am born here and am British,” Fulani said she insisted again, recounting the conversation on Twitter.

But Hussey continued to probe, Fulani said, asking, “No but where do you really come from, where do your people come from?”

“Lady! I’m a British national, my parents came here in the ’50s when...,” Fulani said she replied, before Hussey interjected, “Oh, I knew we’d get there in the end, you’re Caribbean.”

“No, lady, I am of African heritage, Caribbean descent and British nationality,” Fulani said she shot back.||

Better a Dem speaker than continuation of establishment GOP rule. Will failing to elect a speaker due to infighting and then getting a Dem speaker despite being the majority party destroy the GOP? It might, yes. So be it.

McCarthy and the rest of the controlling forces within the Party did everything in their power to kneecap its own candidates and try to engineer razor-thin margins (it even worked for the House) so as to maintain control over a fractured, loose confederation of a majority. They must be punished. If that means a Dem speaker and the destruction of the GOP, then it is what it is.

Easy. Trump's popularity was not waning nor was Biden popular in any sort of manner. You would not get the Newsweek celebration of fortifying the election otherwise. Essentially, ballots have become separate from people as the entire urban cheat machine which is now being spread to suburbs in major cities depends on harvesting ballots, information suppression by the media--legacy and social, and chicanery in tabulation of the votes.

205 I think a lot of people don't like the word "stolen" when it comes to elections because it infers there was one act that flipped the outcome. That's not the case.

The left has very shrewdly set up a system of actions that influence, interfere, change, pick your word, the outcomes of elections. We just saw it in Arizona were a number of different actions by the left absolutely changed the outcome of a number of races.

Musk admitted yesterday that Twitter has interfered in elections and he has the data to back it up. The most obvious is silencing the Hunter Biden laptop story which influenced millions of votes but so did censoring conservatives and allowing Democrats to set the narratives. I absolutely believe we represent more than half the people in this country which is why the left needs censorship but we need to change a lot of things to win elections and free speech is at the top of the list.

215 Greetings, daywalkers. Howdy, JJ. Happy New Month.

The sun struggles to rise, just as I did - although the whining doggy was a big assist in my getting going. As usual on our walk, we spooked up a few deer. Daisy dog is one strong critter when she wants to chase something. Keeping her leash is a great morning exercise program for me!

The Report is before me. The coffee's beside me.

Yesterday, this man who must be in his sixties stopped by the house. He (Christy) has the most wonderful Irish accent-even though he's been here, he said thirty five years and has bright blue eyes. Which got me wondering, particularly in light of the American Eagle flight where the pilot vapor-locked in flight and the co-pilot had to return to Chicago. What happens if the locomotive engineer suddenly panicked from all of the disinformation from the Pure Bloods about the totally safe and effective vaxx against Covid and died while the train is traveling along at over 50mph?

In states that cleaned their voting process there was a red wave.

In races the R was expected to win easily they did.

In races the R was way behind they almost all beat expectations by a significant margin - Schumer's normal 40 point win was...10 this time.

But in the close races in states that did not clean their voting process there was a completely unexpected "blue surge".

The only rational explanation for this is fraud.

Fen, I will bet that the website with the reviews is fake. And it will be gone as soon as he and his crew have moved on.

I don't know what I think about the work on my driveway - the driveway itself is well covered with asphalt. But they did not do the work they said they would, and forget any warranty work - they are gone now. They said they would show up with laser levels and do a bunch of prep work etc and so on and they did not - they just packed a lot of asphalt on the old driveway.

They charged me a reasonable price for this area, but there is a lot of sketchiness involved. Like in order to pay with a card he had me pay some portion to a jewelry shop in NYC - a gift for his wife on their anniversary he said.

The Irish Gypsies have a reputation for showing up, doing shoddy work, and disappearing. In retrospect, I think I should have had a local company do the work but it is what it is now.

Be aware there is a nomadic Celtic based community called the Travelers that are essentially con-men posing as contractors. They basically hit a community, often but not always after natural disasters, and try to sell items like driveway, roof, or other repairs which then are done with substandard materials, outright fraud (putting oil instead of driveway sealant on asphalt driveways), and will often complete half the work and then demand much more to complete it or even demand payment for work not done.

They don't have business licenses in your state and any websites, etc. are usually fraudulent designed to attract those who are looking for a 'bargain' in home repairs. Caveat Emptor.

Moreover, it only protects you on Twitter itself... Your next door commissar and your workplace commissar have not lost their bottomless appetite for dominance and sadism, and they'll be watching it more keenly than ever for signs of dangerous ideological heterodoxy.

With no path to 270 and the House all gerrymandered into safe districts, federal elections are purely vanity votes and optional. I will not waste any time or money on any of those.

The real action is local, the more local, the more it is personal. The mayor, city council, county managers and sheriff can make your life far more worse than any federal bureaucrat. In many blue cities, pulling permits is required for many trivial things, and they directly effect if criminals are in the streets and whether you have any ability to defend yourself.

School taxes are the largest component of property taxes, and the schools have demonstrated that there is never enough money to satiate their endless desires as year after year their product quality plummets into oblivion.

Time and effort should be focused on getting better schools and counties.

What will happen is that underlying cracks in the old asphalt will travel upwards to the new. Asphalt formulation is a tricky problem and for a long lasting fix requires removal of old material and new sub base installed that allow proper drainage etc in even the worst weather cycles.

Long time ago, I worked for Uncle Sam's military in Civil Engineering which taught me a lot about how proper paving and concrete techniques for runways and taxiways where it is critical for nonfailure of those surfaces. Also built roads including in foreign climes for 'training'. Proper subbase, drainage, sealing (for asphalt) or damage to concrete, plus application is critical.
Blaster that driveway may have required permits per local and state laws and disclosure to future buyers of what you know upon selling may also be an issue.

344 How will the Left react to NYC's plan to fight crime?

NYC will involuntarily hospitalize homeless "who appear to be mentally ill". New York City Mayor Eric Adams hopes to combat crime by removing people with severe mental illness from the streets and subways, noting that the City has a "moral obligation" to help.

put them on a bus and send them to Florida I'll bet DeSantis would love to get a few more voters in the Sunshine State.

Mental illness is no joke Even a Desantis zinger on this topic is just not cool. This is a horrifying, violent policy that is yet another way to give cops money and power, and will
end up hurting and killing people.

One of the factors driving homelessness that rarely gets mentioned is the elimination of SROs--Single Room Occupancies. Used to be for a couple of dollars a week you could rent a room. The bathrooms would be down the hall and shared by the people on that floor. As a society we've made being poor more and more difficult.

morning after Election Day, he witnessed the voting warehouse supervisor "24-plus times with 24 sticks, actually, uploading votes from USB sticks," he continued. "I objected, I brought senior law enforcement over, we brought the clerk of elections over."

Stenstrom told Hannity that when he asked for canvassers to "update the vote," there was a 50,000-vote difference in favor of Joe Biden.

I doubt that's driving homelessness - as in vagrancy - but it probably does drive away people on the margins and forces them into outer areas or away completely.

But assume that it is the core problem and that in NYC, "housing affordability" is the problem driving vagrancy. If that is the core problem then eliminating marginal places to live is contributing to the problem.

But this person needs to ask him or herself a question: who eliminated the SROs? The heyday of the SRO ended in the late 70s, as the city directly incentivized building owners to convert them into anything else (crime a major driver of the change). Most of the decline in SRO capacity happened before *Giuliani* took over, not recently.

401 He has a license number on his card, but I will check those things. Thx Apparently you can't do this work in the winter. It's too cold.
Posted by: FenelonSpoke
----------------------
Depending on the formulation of your asphalt or concrete, you can do work in the cold but it usually requires additives that can be expensive and immediate application from a nearby source for asphalt in cold weather. Too cold asphalt does not roll correctly and tends to lack any binding strength resulting in early failure. Chip and seal type absolutely requires summer application. Concrete can be poured in pretty cold circumstances with the proper additives and heat blankets for curing. Expensive though compared to summer.

In addition, you want the ground and subbase to be stable and depending on your weather that may not be possible with freeze/thaw cycles. Patches though can be applied in a lot of conditions as long as you follow application instructions and can keep a problem from getting worse until a full repair can be done.

They're not good, no. But they are cheap. They're essentially tenements. A lot of them got shut down in the later 70s because they were hotbeds of drug and sex crimes and prostitution. The ones that remain aren't even all that cheap. An SRO is only a bit cheaper than a studio apartment.

The real motivation behind the claim that they need more SROs is slightly different. It is an affordability argument, yes, but they're agitating for regulatory reform (NYC has minimum sizes for apartments, etc. - which they deem to be too big and eliminating low-end housing under the threshold (550 or 600 square feet, IIRC)). The reasons for the argument vary. Sometimes it's about the poor who can't afford to live in NYC otherwise, sometimes it's because housing requirements are racist, etc.

421 But assume that it is the core problem and that in NYC, "housing affordability" is the problem driving vagrancy. If that is the core problem then eliminating marginal places to live is contributing to the problem.

To even discuss 'homelessness' is to cede the debate topic to the Left.

The primary issue is NOT housing, but rather why people are in the circumstances they are in. On the ground, dealing with these folk, you learn that even providing *free* housing would not alter the lifestyle that leads to homelessness, in most cases. Most public policies are simply enabling the problem. See: CA

It's what my dad used to call " 'lection pavement." During an election year, the local government will haphazardly slap down a paper-thin layer of asphalt or chip-and-seal on some of the worse roads in various neighborhoods and campaign on it. It falls apart by February, but there's always more 'lection pavement right around the corner!

Right. "Homeless" != "vagrant." Housing that's too expensive can drive homelessness, but it won't drive vagrancy. The guy living in his car while he commutes to work 75 miles away, or the dude who rents a couch at someone's house, etc. - those guys are hidden homeless and they do exist and probably would have reliable housing near where they work if they could afford it.

But they're not on the street. The street people are a different problem, and the underling problem is usually mental illness and/or drugs.

428 I think a lot of people don't like the word "stolen" when it comes to elections because it infers there was one act that flipped the outcome. That's not the case.

The left has very shrewdly set up a system of actions that influence, interfere, change, pick your word, the outcomes of elections. We just saw it in Arizona were a number of different actions by the left absolutely changed the outcome of a number of races.

I think it depends on the degree and the person. I know some fine people with PhD's who are not stuck on themselves, and I am glad I got an M.Div and went to seminary, since unlike Al Sharpton nobody was going to ordain me at age 9 even if I had wanted to be ordained then. I think he eventually got a seminary degree but he's still a shyster.

My old man calls it "election pavement" for obvious reasons. In the big poor county where I came up, the local corrupt politicians would always throw down a layer of that garbage at election time, particularly on one thoroughfare where 78% of the tax base lived (IOW, the good neighborhood in the county).

As if the handful of people paying the freight for the entire county were too dumb too know the score.

435 Chipseal is of the Devil. There is nothing redeeming about it other than the fact if you are looking for a house and see the roads covered in that crap, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.

Heh. You and Joe Mannix are correct on its use for highways. If you do not fix the underlying issues, chip and seal is a fresh coat of paint over rotting wood. Really does poorly over concrete as a cheap fix. For a long driveway though, it is far cheaper, albeit with more maintenance issues, to do than asphalt or concrete. One other feature is that you can alter the look of chip and seal for design reasons with whatever aggregate is available (granite, pea gravel, etc.).

Does require an excellent subbase prep though to last which cuts down on the cost advantage. Nowadays, I would probably recommend geotextile matrix with aggregate fill over chip and seal in northern climes for long driveways.

Oh, and the same highway department that would put down that shit pavement for the rubes spent the money to build a long paved road in the *middle of nowhere* because the single home in a several-mile radius belonged to a county commissioner.

I could tell stories all day about that corrupt place. The whole government there was running one scam or another.

438 Yesterday, this man who must be in his sixties stopped by the house. He (Christy) has the most wonderful Irish accent-even though he's been here, he said thirty five years and has bright blue eyes. Nice looking guy .He said (Think of the Irish accent here) "I've been noticing that your driveway needs to be redone. Would you be interested in having an estimate? It would be more expensive in the Spring." Lord knows it needs to be done.

Here, hospitals get $3,200 for OP, $111,000 for non-complex inpatient Covid care, $450,000 for complex inpatient Covid care. They can get a bonus up to $90,000, for $540,000 total.

100 OP patients would bring in $32,000, or if admitted and intubated, a whopping 55 million.
