Wow! This is a powerful painting. The way Larson captures the moonlit sky and the reflection of the flames in the water is dramatic. The rocks are realistic, and menacing, enough but the sheen he is able to put on them adds to the effect. The right corner of the painting could be a scene out of hell.
There is also a sense of tragedy in the image. The light house in the corner is inadequate in the face of the stormy seas and shipboard fire. The bird soaring in the sky adds to the contrast of Pandemonium and peaceful passage. Posted by: JTB at December 01, 2022 09:46 AM (7EjX1) 97

This is a good use of red, here. The palette is mostly black and white. The red radiates. It reflects of the wet rocks and really lights up the craggy details in the rocks. I also like how the tiny dot of the lighthouse light is the same shade of red. Two lights, same color. One represents safety, the other disaster.

If you know some of the older, wiser crowd in this town, they'll tell you about when I invented football. True story. Democrats aren't all about serious policy and getting results - we know how to have some fun and games.
This was shortly after Garfield was assassinated... Republicans have always been crazy about guns. Still doesn't make what happened to the lasagna-chomping GOP fat cat right. Anyway, these guys tried to bring in a foreign game called rugby. Played a game right in downtown Scranton. Well, I know a Russian game when I see one, jack, and I wasn't having that. Rushed the field, and kicked that Slavic soccernaut to death right on the 69-yard line. Then I deflated the ball. Tom Brady learned that from me. Since Democrats hate waste, I fixed that ball with some of Doctor Jill's medicated sinews and pumped it back up. That dark brown, bloodstained rugby ball was the first football, and I used it to defeat Spain in the 1883 Manly Cup. That's why the Mexicans still call me Abuelo Sucio. Posted by: Ian S. at December 01, 2022 09:57 AM (ZGrMX) I suppose that the WHO was concerned that people, incapable of differentiating between an animal and a person with a really good tan, would then refuse to have sex with blacks for fear of catching mpox. They have this concern despite the fact that, apparently, the people most at risk of contracting mpox - other than dogs and children, of course - don't seem to be slowed down even a little. Posted by: Tom Servo at December 01, 2022 10:36 AM (r46W7) It's not impossible exactly it's just stupidly overconstrained. Compression will do that. Take a poem, zip it, then you unzip it and get the original. Any foolproof hashing creates a limited use intermediate form. If you want a useful intermediate form, a poem that has value, it is either impossible or only useful for a limited trivial subset of all poems. Godel would agree.
