It says this about Scott: "Scott has been hit and miss for most of his entire five-decade career, but he's one of the all-time greats. He's automatically an all-timer just for "Alien," "Blade Runner," "The Duellists," "Thelma and Louise," "Gladiator," "Black Hawk Down," and "American Gangster." The problem with Thanksgiving is that you cannot give thanks without having someone TO THANK. It necessitates a provider, a deity that you honor and thank for blessings over the year. It does not work to just thank the open air and "be thankful" without someone to direct that to, no matter what Oprah says. You have to have an object for your verb. HotGas is contributing to this, of course - Ed Morrissey is repeating the claim he's been making since March that Russia is about to run out of missiles (I wonder if he simply Xeroxes his old articles). For proof of this, he quotes - the Ukrainian defense ministry. Steven Green does his part too - he claimed a couple of weeks ago that the Russians after evacuating Kherson were so terrified of Ukrainian artillery that they were going to abandon the entire Dnieper River line, and flee eastwards. That hasn't happened yet, for some reason. Posted by: The ARC of History! at November 23, 2022 02:27 PM (KCOCK) 340

OT, but in the Thanksgiving spirit...I think we all heard about Jay Leno getting burned recently, but I know I never saw an update. DU actually linked a useful article on the subject!
The former Tonight Show presenter, 72, was at his Los Angeles mansion when one of the vehicles 'erupted into flames without warning' - with sources telling TMZ the left side of his face was burned. In a statement Leno said: 'I got some serious burns from a gasoline fire. I am ok. Just need a week or two to get back on my feet.' 'It was a steam car. This steam was made by gas. It got sprayed, as a gas,' Swift, a mechanic who works at the garage, said. In 2021, the 'Tonight Show' veteran was actually stopped in his 1906 Stanley Steamer for speeding on Interstate 405 in California. Cropped from Mental Floss:
A group of Dutch biotechnologists led by Hans van Doorn pinpointed the chemical compounds behind the sprout’s characteristic bite - a couple of glucosinolates called sinigrin and progoitrin. After trawling their stores for old seeds that were low in those potent compounds, Dutch seed suppliers embarked on a years-long mission to breed the ideal plant: one that would turn out not-too-bitter Brussels sprouts, and do so quickly enough to keep up with modern production standards. Their success helped catapult the once-maligned vegetable to culinary stardom, especially in the U.S. Posted by: stu-mick-o-sucks at November 23, 2022 02:41 PM (w9Wax) 450

I live in a family of left-of-center members. I never broach the subject of politics. Not that I shy from the fight, but I am always the peacemaker and calmer-downer. For four years, every conversation I had with my mother began with, "Oh, that Trump!" So this notion that conservatives are the spoilers of every family get-together is complete bullshit in my experience.
No Conservative starts a conversation with, "I think kindergarteners should not be taught about sex." Nobody states obvious, normal truths as a means of upsetting family. It's always the millennials interjecting "ACAB!" out of context or rolling their eyes at a dinnertime prayer or throwing in some dig under their breath that gets things heated. But whatevs. Having the kids over to our house, so at least I can tell them to get the hell out if it comes to that. Posted by: red speck at November 23, 2022 02:48 PM (gS3OW) 499

The Washington Post is reporting that Elon Musk made several “woke” staff members “cry” when he started rolling out his free speech agenda at Twitter. In a Tuesday tech report, the newspaper accuses Musk of undermining Twitter’s ability to “protect vulnerable communities.” The article, written by reporters Cat Zakrzewski, Faiz Siddiqui, and Joseph Menn, argues that Musk imposed his will on the company by gutting the “Trust and Safety team.”
.. he paid $54 billion (with a 'B') for the company and he is "imposing his will" ... of course he is. Posted by: SMOD at November 23, 2022 03:20 PM (RHGPo) 651
As usual, Biden screws up the Friendsgiving concept. For several years my DeSantis’ loving friends have had a party Thanksgiving evening they call a Friendsgiving. Football and fish (we live on an island) are among the topics, no politics, and food/drinks for lots of folks, including those who celebrate Thanksgiving w family.

Abortion decision saved democrats in mid term and abortion initiatives will be on the ballot in many states bringing out women and young pro choice men to vote republicans out in 2024. Gavin Newsom and AOC will be put on democrat ticket in 2024 to get progressive and latinx vote.

I very much disagree . The Dem turnout was not significant and the number of pro abortion voters who otherwise would have voted for Republicans is minuscule. Posted by: polynikes at November 23, 2022 03:24 PM (nBhwo) 657

"Abortion turnout" is cover for fortification. Superficially plausible because it's an elite obsession (they very much want to believe the masses will roar for abortion rights). But it doesn't stand scrutiny. Good for the Ds no one will scrutinize

Exodus is a troll which i why their nic contains a Biblical reference completely out of context and with no explanation. They view killing babies up to the ninth month as something religious Jews would endorse. In other words, they're a troll. Consider ignoring them. Walmart is about to learn a very, very expensive lesson about listening to employees when they surface warnings to upper management, and get ignored. Posted by: Darrell Harris at November 23, 2022 03:08 PM (9miN6) No they won't. Just like the FBI and law enforcement. They KNOW these people are a menace. They KNOW they're going to commit some heinous crime, yet do NOTHING to stop it and act surprised when they do it. It's all a part of the plan. The END justifies the MEANS.
