I would not try to use an epoxy to glue those pieces back together.
What I would do with an epoxy, is to build up a larger-than-knob-shaped blob on the steel, where the plastic knob used to be. Let it cure at least 24 hrs, then file it into a slightly larger than knob shaped approximation of the former knob. Then, thread the screw part into a properly fitted nut, chuck the thing into a lathe, and turning at a slow speed, apply a file and then sandpaper to reduce the epoxy to "knob size", nice and smooth and symmetrically round. You can knurl it for grip, if you like. The solid epoxy knob replacement will be hella strong, and not a "Bubba" repair if done with even a modicum of craftsmanship. Plan B would be to mail all the bits off to AOP or Berserker, and let them work their magic on it? Jim Sunk New Dawn Galveston, TX Posted by: Jim at November 20, 2022 02:10 PM (e6UQI) 26

Get a small, stainless steel hose clamp. Coat the whole thing with a good layer of automotive paste wax, and then use the clamp TO clamp the bits after you've applied the epoxy. But, you don't want to glue the clamp to your knob (literally or figuratively), hence, the wax as a parting compound. But, you've gotta clamp the assembly, or that epoxy really isn't going to give you much strength in the bond. Jim Sunk New Dawn Galveston, TX Posted by: Jim at November 20, 2022 02:15 PM (e6UQI) 49

What amazes me is the number of parts you can find online to repair just about any gadget. I replaced something similar on my wife's KitchenAid blender a year or so ago. Cost a couple bucks. Replaced a couple carburetors because I was too lazy to empty the Ethanol treated fuel in my push lawnmower and portable generator... about $20 each. New powerhead for an expensive 12 year old Dyson vacuum was $100 vs several hundred for a new machine. The list goes on...
That said, some of the junk built today isn't worth the time or effort to fix... if it can be repaired at all. Posted by: Martini Farmer at November 20, 2022 02:21 PM (Q4IgG) 62

Product dating (i.e., applying "sell-by" or "use-by" dates) is not required by Federal regulations. However, many stores and processors may voluntarily choose to date packages of bacon. Use or freeze products with a "sell-by" date within 7 days of purchase. If the manufacturer has determined a "use-by" date, observe it. It's always best to buy a product before its date expires. It's not important if a date expires after freezing bacon because all foods stay safe while frozen. Posted by: Lola at November 20, 2022 02:48 PM (NIYa7) 145
Best solution: AOP's welding a "T" handle to the splined portion of the fastener.
Most ELEGANT solution: Indy Bill's suggestion to slot the spline, and epoxy a dime into the slot. MY improvement: Use an actual silver dime, and silver solder it into place.=tres' elegance! Most DIRECT solution: AOP's having found and listed the actual replacement part. Most "Bubba" solution: Vice Grips. (y'all hold m'uh beer'n watch this!) For the bacon, don't cook it if you open the pack and it smells bad, is slimy, is discolored, or is moldy. Also, probably don't cook it if anyone if your family is immunocompromised or has a touchy immune system.

Squeaking of old appliances, when we moved back to Oklahoma, this old cement house was so deteriorated it was valued at $0. A bargain. New roof, new hot water tank, new furnace/AC, and a lot of repairs, it's probably worth ten times as much now.
The furnace and water heater were both Sears Kenmore. From 1994, don't you know. Glad this fall when I turned on the furnace and it sparked right up, good as new. The water heater just had to be replaced, though. Water was dribbling out of it, and getting worse. I read some discussion on here about others with such problems, and someone suggested the leaks might be from the connections, while the tank was still good. In fact although old, I think the basic tank was still good. The connections were corroded solidly, though, no way to fix them. It's nice to have a new water heater, non-leaking, fast-reheating, efficient. Bet it won't last 28 years like the last one, though. Posted by: Notsothoreau I have heated exclusively with wood for over 30 years . My stove is neither EPA certified nor airtight. It is an Amish built wood cook stove . Adding to potential issues is the fact that I have 28 feet of stove pipe. I clean my stove pipe and the stove itself ( creosote buildup) once a year. I have a CO monitor . Never heard a peep from it. About airline miles that you don't plan to use, airlines allow you to donate them to various charities. Most choices are revoltingly leftist, but you CAN donate them to organizations that support veterans. I think they mostly use them to fly family members in case of injury or death of a service member.
For example, American Airlines' program is called Miles for Heroes. I don't fly much, so I always donate my miles too them before they expire. Posted by: Art Rondelet of Malmsey at November 20, 2022 03:25 PM (fTtFy) 245

252 198 My FWP - we left our 15 yr old washer/dryer set (Whirlpool) at the old house as this home has a newer Samsung washer and Whirlpool dryer. The washer is in great shape EXCEPT for a rusted spot alongside the bleach dispenser on the lid panel itself.
==== I own a Whirlpool washer & dryer set that I bought on layaway at Kmart in 1995. They still work, although the washer has had some problems with colors bleeding and a recent experiment with liquid bleach ended poorly. And the washer has eaten about 12 pairs of socks and possibly two pairs of wool boxers in its working life. But hey, they're still going! ===== Now that I think of it, maybe the dryer is the sock thief. It's always suspicious when a load finishes with 1 less sock and a whole lot of lint! I saw a video where someone took a drier apart and, on removin the drum, found a plethora of socks hidden there behind it.

The oldest things I have that still work are a Toshiba am/fm receiver that I use in my garage, it's a 1980 unit and an Amiga 2000 that's from 87, that I occasionally haul out to see if it still works, it still works.
I have had to replace the battery on the Amiga and some of the caps on the receiver over the decades but they still function fairly well. All though the floppy drive on the Amiga makes quite the racket when inserting and ejecting discs. Posted by: Thomas Bender at November 20, 2022 03:42 PM (up/3i) 258

Posted by: exdem13 Honestly, where do the lonely socks go? The couldn't all be in the vent piping or lint trap. And I'm thinking if they were hidden within other clothing dried at the same time, wouldn't they eventually be found? If I am blessed to get to heaven, this is the first question I'll ask St. Peter. NOT, anything about the grassy knoll. Posted by: Tonypete at November 20, 2022 03:42 PM (qoGsy) 259

I remember reading an "operation plowshare" plan to build a sea level canal between the atlantic and the pacific oceans using buried nuclear weapons, all detonated simultaneously. It would have worked, but the Nicaraguans could never be sold on the benefits of detonating 20 H-bombs inside their territory.

My Grammi's dryer played "How dry I am. . . " when the cycle finished. I don't remember the brand but it was already ancient when I was a kid. When I sold the farm a few years ago, I finally 'retired' it.

193 I got my first natural gas bill for last month. It was $40. Now, it wasn't all that cold then and I expect the next will be higher. But I think I may put a gas water heater back in and I definitely want a gas stove.
Posted by: Notsothoreau at November 20, 2022 03:04 PM (uz3Px) When I bought our current house, first big change I made was to junk the electric stove and replace it with a good gas range. Samsung washers/dryers apparently have a bad rep, but I've had excellent service from mine. Got Samsung primarily so as to have smart-home connectivity; I have it set up to have Alexa alert me when the washer or dryer is done (I had a habit of forgetting I had laundry going, and then remembering the next day, when the wrinkles had semi-permanently set in the clothes in the wash).
