Useless Gasbag Self-Promoting Half-Democrat Ben Sasse Resigning From The Senate Seat He Was Just Re-Elected To in 2020

I guess he's angry that the GOP might win the Senate.

Ryan Saavedra
@RealSaavedra

BREAKING: U.S. Sen. Ben Sasse (R-NE) is reportedly resigning from his position, according to NewsRadio 1110 KFAB's Ian Swanson

Sean Davis
@seanmdav

Given his record of having accomplished absolutely nothing, I had actually forgotten he was even in the Senate.

Sasse's specialty was avoiding confronting Democrats about difficult issues or taking difficult positions. He wasted valuable time in committee not asking probing questions, but instead offering pious but gauzy homilies about vague notions like "citizenship" and "a duty beyond self." Things no one could really disagree with because they sounded nice and were fundamentally... devoid of actual content.

To call them platitudinous would be a gross insult to platypuses.

He made these speeches because his goal from day one of his senatorship has to promote himself to run as a "centrist, moderate" candidate for President, a "different kind of Republican" who can "unite us instead of dividing us."

He took second place to no man, including Barack Obama, in a contest of self-regard.

A major part of establishing his bona fides on that score was to side with Democrats as often as possible, and to avoid taking positions which put him too firmly on the side of his, how do I put this delicately?, his disgusting, gross voters and constituents.

He's like David French with 20% less paunch.

Ian M. Swanson
@IanMSwanson

BREAKING on @kfabnews: @SenSasse will imminently announce his intent to resign from the U.S. Senate to pursue another opportunity in higher education. While the process could take a bit, the announcements are expected "imminently".

This sounds right to me: there is no time to schedule a contest in time for the upcoming election, so a replacement will be appointed until the 2024 elections.

The governor of Nebraska is Pete Rickets, a Republican. I don't know if he's especially conservative.

Damin Toell
@damintoell

Actually I guess in Nebraska, because of the timing here, the Governor's appointee will remain until a replacement gets chosen for the remainder of the term in the next statewide general election, which I'm assuming will be November 2024.

Good-bye, Sassy. Don't let the door hit you on the assy.

Can't wait for the upcoming sex scandal from his tenure as professor. I just wonder what gender the student he's caught having an affair with will be.

LOL:

Posted by: JackStraw

Update:

I'm starting to see a scenario where Rick Scott becomes the majority leader.
Posted by: Dave in Fla

It moved.

That's the test, isn't it?!! If a man makes it move?!?!

Below, Sasse avoids taking a position on the Democrats' grotesque hit on Kavanaugh, preferring to babble about "Schoolhouse Rock lessons" about the proper role of the judiciary.

You may or may not agree with his "Schoolhouse Rock lesson." That's not the point. The point is, this argument could be made at any time, in any session of the Judiciary Committee, in any hearing on any judge, or about no judge in particular.

Or just in the well of the Senate.

He chose to duck the important, salient, happening-right-now fight over whether it's fair to gin up a lie about Bret Kavanaugh being a r@pist to disqualify him to offer up this limpdick homily to avoid taking a position and to avoid having to associate himself with those Deplorable Republicans.

This was his constant tactic: Avoid confronting the actual fight with Democrats to babble uselessly about "the real issue," which could be discussed at any time, any time when this fight was not going on. He did this to sound "statesmanlike" and to get plaudits from the leftwing media he was courting, hoping to be touted as The Next John McCain.

He literally did this in every committee hearing. We only get a limited amount of time to ask questions in committee, and he always wasted precious committee time talking about softsoap abstractions that were designed to get the leftwing media to call him a "serious thinker" who is "not just another partisan Republican."

They figured it out, they just can't accept it. I honestly thought they'd burn the party down at the '16 convention. Should have seen what was coming when they didn't, but it's consistent to the last. They think they're entitled to their little club for self-enrichment and influence without ever having to do a damn thing for the voters and the idea that someone could come in, threaten their rice bowls, and actually make good for the people is inconceivable.

March 19. It's the 27th state to go.

DeSantis winning in Florida but losing everywhere else would not lead to DeSantis winning the primary, and the way primaries work, the early winners tend to gain traction with later states.

DeSantis beating Trump in polls a year and a half out in the Florida primary means just about squat.

I understand this and somewhat agree, but the up side of a Trump term would be that he can take all the fire while he goes after DOJ and FBI and other corruption, etc. and then go away and leave a wide open door for DeSantis after.

In other words, Trump would take all the fire and heat and hatred while getting things done and then be gone. And Trump would have a huge chip on his shoulder to go after the deep state and wouldn't have any worries about being reelected so wouldn't worry too much about approval ratings, etc.

I'm certainly open to DeSantis, but I see much more upside of another Trump term.

So when Sasse quits to do something he's better suited for and a Republican governor gets to make his replacement, which sounds win-win to me, we just get more whining.

Two police officers early on if they had investigated Dahmer properly after walking in to his apartment with the "bad smell" and returning a drugged and injured teenager that Dahmer said was his boyfriend and only drunk after a little tiff except that he wasn't. He was a 16 year old that Dahmer picked up that night with promises of $100 for just taking photographs of him. Dahmer drugged and injured him prior to the kid's escape only to be returned by the cops who believed Dahmer's bullshit that the kid was 19 and he was just drunk after a lover's quarrel. The cops in question were fired but then re-instated with back pay of $55K. They could have saved many lives had they done their due diligence but ended up being rewarded for their incompetence.

Directs the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to study methods for determining whether a driver is impaired by marijuana;
Directs the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health to study the impact of state legalization of recreational cannabis on the workplace, and
Directs the Department of Education to study the impact of state legalization of recreational cannabis on schools and school-aged children.

Those cops have defended that awful decision over and over again. One even had the balls to say there were no red flags.

There's actually a recording of two of those cops joking about reuniting the two "lovers." Sure, it was a naked, underaged (14 years old, one cop thought he was ELEVEN OR TWELVE), incoherent guy bleeding out his butt, but that's normal for gay quarrels, right? Apparently they placed great import on the fact that Dahmer appeared to assist the young lad and the lad didn't attempt to break away from him.

Additionally, the witness who called police that night, tried to contact the police several times to follow up. She wanted to know if they helped save the young man. They blew her off.

421 >>I've been saying this for a while. The 25th is a red herring. The real way to get rid of Biden is to offer a deal where he resigns, and the DoJ declines to prosecute Hunter or go after the Biden family money.

The only problem I see with this scenario is that the very people who would try to push Joe out knew full well that Joe was dirty before the election and helped cover it up. And that includes the 50 former intelligence "experts".

I don't think for a second Joe was the only one making bank in Ukraine and other foreign countries. McCain and Graham were hip deep in that shit hole too. Joe could take a lot of people down with him.

Sasse has been immersed in evangelical subcultures since his student days and was never in the service. No domestic scandals either. You could never sell him as 'the Next McCain'. 522 "Darrell Brooks is continuing to make his trial a circus."

This infuriates me. Isn't it obvious he can't be allowed to go pro se? I wish I could say what really needs to be said.
Posted by: Rolling Donut Unharmed By gp's Flying Leap at October 06, 2022 05:25 PM (24fqN)

This morning, before the jury came in but on the record, the DA emphatically stated that they were 100% convinced that Brooks was competent to stand trial and that all his agrumentiveness and overtalking the judge was an intentional tactic to delay and disrupt the proceedings. Judge agreed. Now with the jury in and having read the prelim jury instructions, the judge is FINALLY cutting his act short.

It's his Blaze Of Glory. He knows he's toast, so he's making the most of the last big opportunity he will ever have, with a display of fiendish flamboyance. At least Colin Ferguson approached coherence. I am outraged that we have to pussyfoot around with this terrorist.

539 A friend of mine was a graduate of Purdue, where Mitch Daniels an ex-governor has spent the last 10 years trying to reduce the bloat. In the last decade he's frozen tuition and even reduced the living cost for students, and enhanced the satellite campuses to all parts of the state.

544 If the appointed interim Senator is a MAGA Republican that McConnell doesn't like, and this new Senator Neb runs for the seat in 2024, under McConnell's rules from Alabama and Mississippi, the RNSC and everyone else must absolutely support Senator Neb and threaten any vendor who works for a primary challenger with permanent blacklisting from future RNC campaigns. McConnell will follow this, correct?
