Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | At Least 42 People Presumed Dead in Lee County as Media Rushes to "Katrina" Ron DeSantisForty-two people dead, sadly, in just Lee County. And there will probably be more. The media now unleashes the New DeathSantis Narrative it started working on a week ago.At least 42 people are dead in Lee County, one of the areas hardest-hit by Hurricane Ian where rescue and recovery efforts are still ongoing. Local officials are now facing questions about why they didn't urge people in the path of the destructive Category 4 hurricane to evacuate sooner. Last Sunday -- three days before the storm landed on the peninsula -- the National Hurricane Center predicted that Ian could bring a storm surge of 4 to 7 feet from Englewood to Bonita Beach, which includes all of coastal Lee County.A 4 to 7 foot surge isn't a major surge. It was the 10 to 15 foot (or more) surges that were deadly. Lee County was not in the storm's path according to the storm track 72 hours before landfall, as DeSantis explains to this dolt of a CNN reporter. Even at 48 hours, it was only on the periphery. In other words, the storm changed its path and moved towards Lee County in the last 24 hours before landfall. And DeSantis did order an evacuation. Actually, this isn't directly about DeSantis; it's about the local officials, who did order an evacuation. But the media is attempting to blame DeSantis for the local officials' "deadly delay." The woman Trump absolutely will not stop leaking to:
Rich Baris "The People's Pundit"And DeSantis did stress that people outside the evacuation zones also had to prepare:
It's an obvious lie that they're more frequent; that's why the media keeps pushing the lie that they're vaguely "more intense." But lately the media has just started asserting they're also more frequent, which is completely contradicted by actual records. And it's also false that they're becoming "more intense:" The quiet, firm competence of Governor Ron DeSantis in the face of Hurricane Ian is proving a real problem for Democrats, Never Trumpers, and other garbage people. He's good at what he does, unlike them, and people see how he differs from the Establishment despite the blizzard of lies and silly charges designed to tear down the best governor in America. Why DeSantis is a monster who hates gay people because he banned grooming and he caused global warming by not making you turn in your Tahoe for a Schwinn and he dragged innocent illegal aliens from their idyllic sidewalk shantytowns in El Paso to the nightmarish hellscape of Martha's Vineyard. It's enough to cause literal shaking! Sure, Donald Trump was Hitler, but DeSantis is both disciplined and (unlike Trump) sees that institutions like the regime media are worthless and must be destroyed, so he is Super Hitler on Steroids times a zillion. Certainly, the comparison with the half-wits in the White House in the wake of the Cat 4 storm has been less than flattering to the Establishment windbags. President Cornholio has contributed nothing to the relief efforts besides more video of him wandering away, but in his defense, he's been distracted running his fool mouth and risking nuclear war. And Kamala has been at it as well. The Florida administration had to correct the Veep's insistence that hurricane relief would be targeted at people of color and presumably non-binary two-spirit otherkin. Diversity may be our strength, goes the cliché, but there's no diversity in the Biden Administration -- they are all idiots. What they cannot tolerate is how DeSantis shames them for actually doing his job well. Oh, how they were praying for him to fail. The more destruction the better, and the suffering of Florida's people be damned if the left can try to score points off of Heavy D based on Ian's wrath. But DeSantis refuses to play the George Bush role of gentleman simpleton and to be a punching bag for people without the upper-body strength to toss a haymaker. DeSantis is out there constantly, answering questions, issuing guidance, and giving info. DeSantis oversaw the planning and execution of the response to the hurricane with clarity and efficiency shocking in this world of posers and ruling class charlatans who have never accomplished anything other than taking on ever-higher positions from which they can achieve even greater failures.Read the whole thing. It's a real doozer. And, indeed, DeSantis did warn looters that Florida is proud to be a state in which the Second Amendment flourishes:
InteractivePollsLanguage warning but it's worth the watch if you can put up with some f***s and a couple of m*****f*****s.

And it's also false that they're becoming "more intense:"
++++ "Intense" is good because it's vague. What does "intense" mean? Well, you might think it means that they're more powerful with higher winds and deeper water and whatnot, but that's only the most obvious answer. It could also mean "causes more damage" or "more people die" or "the dollar cost of recovery is greater." Those alternate meanings of "intense" might be - and probably are, at least for some definitions - true because there's more stuff being built there, everything is more expensive, more people live there, etc. Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at October 03, 2022 12:17 PM (t0OGg) 13

Willowed from last week, but I think we’re misreading all the “Royal Families Prune the Tree” stories. I don’t think this is about saving citizens any money, even though that's the gist of the reporting. I think it’s just more powerful royals getting rid of lesser royals for time-honored traditions like greed, getting rid of rivals or troublemakers, or just because of spite or vengeance. In early times, the lesser royals might have just been murdered. Now they're just cut off from the money spigot. We know that useless douchebags like Andrew and Harry/Meagan have been causing embarrassment and scandal for years. I know less about the kids Queen Margrethe cut off, but a quick glance raises "useless lay-about douchebag" red flags pretty high.

points out the media is openly lying about hurricanes becoming more frequent and more intense.
We've had records of hurricanes hitting the continental United States since the 1850's. There is been no change in the frequency or severity of hurricanes during that time. What has changed is the amount of coastal development, so a hurricane that would have hit a mangrove swamp a hundred years ago now causes hundreds of millions of dollars in damage. Continuing my comment above, I'd like to know how these royal families get subsidized by citizens. The families have vast wealth in their own right. My guess is that the subsidies don't get paid "per person" (like as if each royal gets an individual check) but rather to the entire family. If so, then Queen X cutting off a few malingerers won't change the total amount of subsidies, but only the remaining royals' shares of those subsidies. Anyone know?

Honest question: how do they determine exactly which deaths are caused by a hurricane and which weren't? Do they make any effort to separate the deaths actually caused by the hurricane (such as a guy crushed inside his destroyed home) from the "normal" deaths that would have happened anyway? There are 22+ million people in FL, including many older people, and there must be a high death count every day no matter the weather. After watching two years of fake covid deaths, where every death was labeled a covid death, I'm skeptical that they are accurately counting actual hurricane deaths.
Posted by: Elric Blade at October 03, 2022 12:25 PM (iFTx/) 59
Having evacuated for my share of hurricanes, I can tell you some people just will not leave, no matter what. They have no where else to go, are too old or broke or both and their whole world is their house and property. Some people are afraid they won't be allowed back to clean up and make repairs, etc. Lots of reasons people stay. Some figure dying on their own property trying to save it is their best option, as they got no one else to count on.

I work in the nuclear industry. We have emergency plans for responding to possible events at our plants that could release radioactive material. Recommending evacuation to the state government is one of the options. We don't want to recommend it too late for obvious reasons. We also don't want to recommend it unnecessarily, because mass evacuations have their own hazards. Bad things happen when you have large numbers of panicked people on the road trying to get the Hell out of Dodge.

If you want to feel better about November, look at the Brazilian election results.
In a lot of counties (including the US), politics has bifurcated into a right-wing Country Party and a left-wing City Party. The City Party almost invariably controls the judiciary, the major media outlets, the universities, the governmental bureaucracy, and much else. One consequence of that is that members of the Country Party stop responding to pollsters, since pollsters are generally controlled by the City Party. Well, the Communist Lula was supposed to easily beat Bolsonaro by 14 points, but only beat Bolsonaro by 4 points, and there will unexpectedly be a runoff at the end of the month. According the Saffir/Simpson Damage Potential Scale
Category 3 - a storm surge of 9 to 12 feet. Flat terrain of less than 5ft could be flooded more than 8 miles inland. Category 4 - a storm surge of 13 to 18ft. Flat terrain of less than 10ft could be flooded more than 6 miles inland. So Ian's storm surge was more in line with a Category 2's range of 6 to 8 ft in Lee County.

Posted by: Mister Scott (Formerly GWS) at October 03, 2022 12:29 PM (bVYXr) ========== I think pollsters intentionally get it wrong in order to create narratives that they prefer. I think they wanted to show Rubio neck and neck to help the Democrats of Florida fundraise and potentially create the environment where Rubio and DeSantis would lose. Registered voters, likely voters, adults, future vision of only actual voters: all the same. They operate based on models of turnout regarding demographics, and that's what really drives their results. They could try to get that right, but they don't, not until they start doing final polls, the polls that places like 538towin use to gauge whether they're right or not. No it is because the majority of the polling firms are outright lying. It's not "being wrong" when you purposely skew your model to achieve a specific result.
Yeah, the point of mainstream polling is to demoralize the Republicans and suppress Republican turnout, until they switch models late in the campaign so they can say at the end that they called the election accurate. --------------- Subsidies and flood insurance aside, there are millions of residents in Florida. Hurricanes while big, really affect a small percentage of homes.* Insurers can figure this out. But a freeze over the whole state of Texas that affects far more homes - that is more of a Black Swan event. * one reason why people fail to evacuate. 79 According the Saffir/Simpson Damage Potential Scale
Posted by: Anna Puma at October 03, 2022 12:27 PM (bUcxF) Storm surge less than the height of your first floor (often the only floor for many FL homes) does not mean your house will remain standing with you treading water for a time inside. Water weighs 8.3 pounds per gallon. So a lot of mass was moving in the surges in Florida. The surge can destroy outer then inner walls and bring your roof or second floor down on top of you. Large debris will be in the surge if you are any distance inland and can damage structures the flowing water itself would leave standing. Posted by: Gref at October 03, 2022 12:48 PM (AMIL/) 225

For the most part, any GOP contender other than Trump is going to have to rely on the traditional GOP big money donors to compete or they have to build a national infrastructure to take in small donations without it getting lawfared out of existence.
That is the achilles heel of national GOP politics--the big donors are to the left (or on some issues diametrically opposed) of the GOP base of voters. So the defense interest groups wants big money spent on defense and endless wars, the companies relying on cheap labor want open trade and open borders, the finance donors want cheap money and no antitrust enforcement, the lawyers want their cronies or themselves appointed to federal judgeships or DOJ jobs, etc. etc. To even attempt a fix of the republic, the GOP has to focus on increasing the cost of labor by trade and immigration policies, rely on prudent antitrust and fiscal policies, withdraw from endless overseas commitments, lower the cost of energy, and break the elite law domination of federal court appointments. Then you have all the social issues that the GOP would have to stomp on and offend many of their donors and those donors circle of friends. Posted by: whig at October 03, 2022 12:53 PM (CXr4y) 242

How do you do that without big Tech fortifying the result? I don't think you need to be spending money on a bunch of mail fliers, robocalls, and tv ads either but you do need to be spending big bucks on getting out the vote and pre lawyering the election in every state. ...To credibly run, it will take hundreds of millions if not a billion or so and that money has to be raised.
Tech censorship is absolutely a problem, but that doesn't mean TV ads are a solution. How many people still read a paper, or watch network TV? The long term solution is obviously to make Tech choose whether they are a publisher or a platform, i.e. 230 reform. Regardless, although large donors might be the easiest way, a guy like DeSantis is smart enough to see that taking smaller donations and telling the big GOPe donors to f*** off would be an enormous boost to his campaign. The big donors have the bucks, but they don't have votes. Posted by: Archimedes at October 03, 2022 01:11 PM (ayzS/) 328

----------- When what a dollar is actually worth is in dispute, pricing becomes a "jump ball" to see how high you can go. We're raising prices for our customers, because simply a dollar is worth less, so now we need more of them. Also limiting welfare, staying out of foreign wars, no corporate welfare, etc have majority support from the left and right. I'm not talking about the poor mokes that were in houses that were built pre-Charlie and could never be built today given the codes. Now they are begging for a ferry ride in or a copter ride in, sharing the benches with the working class crackers from Pine Island. No workers can afford to live on Captiva or Sanibel. We've a winter home in Naples, but far enough inland so there was nothing but some tree debris and a 68-hour power outage. No problems now. The HOA manager says everybody's favorite mobile pizza oven guy will have his rig at the club tonight. People outside of Florida may not realize this (because they don't need to pay close attention), but the original forecast track of Ian was that it was going to go due north through the Gulf, and hit the panhandle near Tallahassee. Seriously. I saw the maps.
As the days ticked by, the forecast track bent further and further to the east. As late as last Monday, people in Tampa were evacuating to the south--to the area around Naples and Ft. Myers--because Tampa was directly in the forecast track, and the storm was supposed to bypass that area. A lot of those people got back in their cars and drove back home when the forecast changed. Most of the people that I know that evacuated went to the east coast. This nonsense of blaming Lee County officials for not ordering evacuations sooner in insanity. The National Hurricane Center did not issue a hurricane watch for Lee until Monday afternoon, and a warning until Tuesday morning. Maybe we should be asking the NHC how they got the forecast so wrong. At one point on Monday they had the storm going over 100 miles west of us, with landfall near or north of Tampa.

So each of us do what we can do and there are bright spots in the clouds here and there--for example the Dobbs decision. Nations can and have reformed and lasted centuries longer even though their governing arrangements and institutions may change. So, till the soil well with your family, friends and acquaintances.
