7 It's a pleasant 65 at 5 am here. Unusual; we are usually wading through watery air that's near 80 with a heat index pushing 90.

As part of my errands this am, I will stop at one of the "recall LaToya" locations in town and sign the petition. In fact I intend to say loudly, "How many times can I sign?" The damn arrogant woman needs to go, or at least to have fear of the voters driven into her.

39 Speaking of racism, Mrs VIA and I were shopping in Walmart yesterday when she saw woman in the aisle coming from the opposite direction wearing a tee-shirt bearing a cartoon character that Mrs VIA has always loved.
My wife's comment about the character to the other woman led to an almost 20 minute conversation in the aisle as somehow the very pleasant conversation turned to Baltimore, crime and the impact of wokefulness on children and families.
Short version is..single mother, who is a firm believer in personal responsibility, and will not allow her you daughter to interact with the father's family except to the minimum required. As the father's family absolutely hates whites, and actively teaches the children that every difficulty in life is caused by white people.

Very interesting conversation, with an absolutely engaging young lady.

40 Ok, so this is when I was administering DOJ programs for Mayor and she was Deputy City Attorney. I am down at her office with my evaluator, some PhD researcher who's job was to study and report on program outcomes. I forget why wew were there.

But she starts in on me (we had already tussled for a year or two) that I need to go meet with this activist group down in the ghetto that she had decided to sponsor. I suppose they had decided to support her campaign for D.A.

I knew some of these people, I had been working in the ghetto for 10 years and was fairly well-connected. I knew they had great disdain for the "system" saw themselves as confronting it whild "advocating" for the community. Very BLM-like except this is 2003.

She wanted me to bring them on to some oversight committee or similar nonsense. So I said, "Kamala, these are not 'meeting people'. These are 'action people'. They don't want to waste time with us coming down here and jawboning at some b.s. meetings."

She stops and gives me one of her deadeye stares. "And there it is," she says. I look over at the evaluator. "What?" I ask. And then it just kind of devolved from there.

44 LOL Michael Anton:

"We’re all political people here, right? So we all know Senator Pat Geary? No?

"He’s the Nevada senator portrayed at the beginning of “Godfather II.” He tells Michael Corleone, “I intend to speak very frankly to you—maybe more frankly than anyone in my position’s ever talked to you.” He tries to blackmail a mob boss and later ends up in bed with a dead hooker. I believe he was also a Democrat. So just about the only thing I have in common with Senator Geary is that I intend to speak very frankly to you."

The personal responsibility seems to have ended when she had an out of wedlock inter-racial baby, and probably is on food stamps and section 8. Not that there is a specific problem with the interracial part, but the inner city utes are moving to the smaller cities to start their drug and gang shit and the white girls are all over them. My area is loaded with single white girls with multiple half black kids with no father to be seen.

That 'Korea' bit actually shocked me, it was so egregious, and I dismissed it as stupidity and ignorance; but your account indicates she genuinely just does not care, about even such 'trivialities' as bothering to know the difference between North and South Korea!

116 It's also one's caritas for the rest of humanity that wishes that those who seek to ruin *their* lives are somehow stopped, either through their own reflection and conversion or, in extremis, actual violence. Obviously that's a slippery slope that can easily lead to an evil "convert or die" mindset, but it also doesn't make the injunction to love a free ticket for the perfidy of others.

I had some neighbors who moved to Pine Island, FL over 20 years ago. I did some research on the island and it was relatively historically untouched by hurricanes, so I thought it might be a good retirement location. When visiting my brother in Naples I borrowed his truck and drove out to it. Found a nice new home, small lake in backyard, minutes to beach and marina. But life intruded and any plans got buried. The following year it got nailed by a Cat 5. A couple days ago it got nailed again by an almost Cat 5. So much for being historically untouched.

-You KNOW it has to be bad. They did not even try to turn him into a republican. He even used a rifle. There is something there so toxic that they cannot even mention it for fear that whatever it is might get out. What that is? I have no idea. FBI supplied the guns? FBI supplied the framework for the plan? Helped him get set up? Was there in the room with him? I dunno. It is that level of bad. It has to be.

Fasting for healing is an ancient practice in the Church.

The "Jack Reacher" movie comes to mind. Where *spoiler alert!* the reason for the mass shooting was to take out one specific person. While the others were taken out simply to hide the one specific person they wanted taken out. Make it look like a random shooting of random people.

I wonder if this was that on a much larger scale. Was there ever any research into the 58 people killed, as to whether any of them were persons of interest or family members of persons of interest?

Yeah, tinfoil hat territory, but after the last 5 years of nothing but national and worldwide conspiracies being confirmed, that's my default now... every situation is a conspiracy.

I'm currently operating on the assumption that the people in charge are so detached from reality that they don't understand how their info ops actually look to the normals.

Thus: "We'll have a huge, unprecedented mass shooting and that will cause a tidal wave in favor of gun control!"

What they didn't expect is that the public knows what the guns laws *already are* and demanded to know how the guns were purchased, for how much, where they came from, etc. I think they really figured they could just hand-wave that away and claim that buying books is harder or something.

So rather than try to dig out of the hole, they just dropped the subject.

I wonder a lot about what our country and the world would be life if just in the USA we had a completely honest press that did it's job as designed and served as a check and balance on power (all power, no matter political affiliation) and as a source of information dissemination to the public, instead of a propaganda institution.

Something simple like the global cooling / global warming / climate change issue that started in the 1970s would have a completely different ending 50 years later. Instead of every government and corporation pushing it, it would be considered junk "science".

And most people today do not understand that linkage. It has given rise to a phenomena that I first started noticing in games: I lock down to play a game, go completely radio silent to avoid spoilers. Come out and think 'That was a great game! Let's see how it is doing!' And find the reaction is completely contrary to what I experienced. The converse has also been true. It seems to be because no one think critically for themselves. They love or hate something because everyone does. Covid is of course the biggest scale one I can think of. I caught myself worrying about it because instinctively, it is a protective mechanism- if the group fears something, your backbrain starts telling you there might be something there to be feared.

I find the phenomenon more disturbing the more times I see it happen.

248 It seems to be because no one think critically for themselves.

Posted by: Aetius451AD at October 01, 2022 08:58 AM

And even worse, the people in power in government or corporations or institutions use this phenomenon to their benefit.

What we have seen happening with pretty much every cultural and political issue -- from the Plandemic to the 2020 election results to Jan 6 protest to "climate change" to gender dysphoria -- is that those in power will work hard to get everyone to agree with their narrative, and then frame those who disagree with the narrative as conspiracy theorists or domestic terrorists. Nevermind that the narrative can be proven to be lies and the "conspiracies" can be proven factual.

That is what worries me the more I see it.

Yeah and you start to wonder if it was all bullshit all the time.

But I come up against a wall. I have often talked about my grandparents subdivision (and it is an odd thing to think of, I'll grant.) The subdivision was built late 40's early 50s. Even as a kid I would ride around it on my bike and imagine what it looked like 30 years before (this was in the 80s.) Wide boulevards. Wide streets. Ranch style houses. Big yards. There was a sense of place there that was palpable even then. This was 50s americana. You could still see the kids running down the street or having a street baseball game. Riding their bikes in packs. Big cars idling down the street and the kids scattering to the sides of the road. Housewives going from door to door to visit. People sitting on their porches, gossiping about the neighbors, keeping an eye on the kids in the yard.

That was real. That was so real I was still able to catch the echoes 30 years after.

I hate that I can't turn on my television at 12noon (EDT) and keep it on all day to college football while I get things done around the apartment like I used to do. Last week I tried to do that and every commercial was either some BS political ad attacking Michigan candidates as anti-abortion radicals or something pushing COVID "vaccines" or something pushing "climate change" propaganda.

Now I just record games I think may be good and then start watching them around halftime so I can fast forward through commercials. Or I will just have scores up on my computer and check them periodically.

254 @Clyde Shelton-I'll add one more. The "Fck Joe Biden" thing. While I'm sure quite a few people genuinely do not like Biden for legitimate political reasons, I wonder how many say it because it's a fad. Everyones saying it, I'll say it too to fit in. Next Dem that is put in front of them, they'll vote for them.

Ah, you're sending me back, man. This was true for me growing up in the 1980s in southside Chicago, quiet Polish neighborhood. It's why I so loved the show "The Wonder Years", because I was the same age as Kevin Arnold and was living a similar life at the time.

Of course, moving to the 1990s, especially after Chicago built the Orange Line to connect downtown Chicago to Midway Airport, my entire neighborhood from my childhood completely changed. No more block parties and kids playing outside all the time. No neighbors always on the front porch talking and laughing. Polish neighborhood turned into Mexican gang-infested neighborhood. Just sad.

Yep, that is my take as well. And it's why I have pleaded in the past with ace and other cobs here to stop blaming Biden for things. Because we all know that he has not had the mental capacity to do anything that he has done since the summer of 2020, at least. So he is nothing but a puppet.

So if we keep programming people to think this is all happening only because of Biden, they will think they can change things for the better with just replacing him with a better Democrat. It's a tough line for bloggers though, because they didn't want to be deemed cranks for saying the Deep State controls the country along with Obama and Obama holdovers. So I guess it's easier to get people to first blame Biden and then hopefully get them to open their eyes to the bigger picture.

258 @255 I always end up on the wrong side of the Buttigieg "racist highways" disdain, because I saw this kind of stuff go on. The (Dem-controlled, of course) committees that routed interstates and mass transit lines were vitally aware of who wanted a wall put up, and why, and they did it, big as hell. They'd been thinking urban renewal and slum clearance for a century; govt-funded construction was just water on their wheel. Mayor Pete is looking at the dumbest possible take on all this, and his counter-strokes are refined stupidity, but eminent domain in the wrong hands -- and most hands are -- is a loaded weapon, and destroying neighborhoods is what they do.

In a perfect world, connecting Midway Airport to Downtown Chicago with rapid transit should be great. It did allow my mom to easily go back to work in the late 1990s as a legal secretary downtown from our southside home which was located a few blocks from Midway. So she was able to drive to the station and then hop on the El to and from work.

But we all know things are not perfect. What happened in reality is that while there were numerous benefits, there was also the massive consequence of now having an easy path for all of downtown Chicago's problems to travel to all the neighborhoods along the Orange Line route. So maybe the idea was good, but you have to think of the consequences as well as the benefits. Clean up crime in Chicago and then maybe that crime does not spread through the rapid transit system all over the surrounding neighborhoods.

Much the same problem occurred when the CTA began running the 79th Street bus line directly into Ford City mall on 77th and Cicero. Good idea, bad results.
