So what we can figure out about the prime suspect in the shooting (the dead man who was blamed) was that he lived a life off the grid, and supposedly had never held a job for long, if at all - and yet he owned 2 small private planes, which he paid to keep at the airport. Also he always had very large amounts of cash - they claimed that he was a professional slot machine player, but that's stupid and ignores the only reason anyone with a lot of cash plays slots - it's one of the easiest ways to turn $200,000 of illegal, unreportable cash into $100,000 of legal, reportable cash. It's one of the safest money laundering schemes around, and intentionally so. It's obvious that's what he was doing in Vegas. So where did all this money come from?

Source of this money - from Vegas, a good pilot can fly a small plane down the Colorado River Valley low and slow, and go back and forth to Mexico without filing flight plans or showing up on anybody's radar screens. I think it stands to reason that this was the source of his cash - package delivery (or people? why not?)
But why would the authorities work so hard to cover this up? Only one reason; he was affiliated in some way with one of the agencies, probably DEA but doesn't matter if it was FBI or CIA. Same need to cover up his tracks, which they clearly did. One obvious reason would be that showing what he was actually doing would lift the lid on some major illegal cross border operation by the US govm't - drugs? people? guns? All of the above? Something they didn't want us to know about, that's for certain. Posted by: Tom Servo at October 01, 2022 09:25 AM (r46W7) 50

Great Pslam: 27:1 Here is "my old friend" Rev. Matthew Henry's commentary on part of this passage. Matthew Henry was an English non conformist Minister and Biblical scholar who lived in the late 1600's to the middle 1700s. I call him my friend because the prayers which he wrote and Biblical commentary have been a big help to me.
27:1-6 The Lord, who is the believer's light, is the strength of his life; not only by whom, but in whom he lives and moves. In God let us strengthen ourselves. The gracious presence of God, his power, his promise, his readiness to hear prayer, the witness of his Spirit in the hearts of his people; these are the secret of his tabernacle, and in these the saints find cause for that holy security and peace of mind in which they dwell at ease. The psalmist prays for constant communion with God in holy ordinances. All God's children desire to dwell in their Father's house. Not to sojourn there as a wayfaring man, to tarry but for a night; or to dwell there for a time only, as the servant that abides not in the house for ever; but to dwell there all the days of their life, as children with a father. In middle school we had to do a book report skit and we decided to do a takeoff on the "Gimme a Light" theme using a slide projector. Actual beer was out of the question, so we went to the home economics teacher and she whipped up something that looked exactly like frothy beer with a firm head of foam on the top. Like, it was going to stay that way for a while. We do the skit, I say "Gimme a light!' the projector comes on, and I say "No, Bud Light!" I get the cup and take a drink and GAHHH! it was awful. Naturally, everyone had to try it to find out how bad it was. We asked the teacher why she poisoned us, and she said "I made it to look good, not taste good." Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Sugar maple is the most efficient, but even box elders can provide syrup, it just takes a huge amount of sap and isn't commercially viable. Casey Kasem (from Oct. 1987) played "Paper and Fire." I had no idea that was John Mellencamp, or whatever he was calling himself then. I think radio really declined when DJs no longer could intro or back-sell the songs they played. Anyway! We are about to hustle out, drop some old junk at Goodwill, buy some stuff with Miss Linda's eternal coupons, and I have to sign the recall petition to get rid of La Destroya. Little Dagny will have the place to herself. Tonight we'll bring Stirling the big black kitten over, and I'll be ready with the spray bottle to chase him if he hurts her. one last thought on the Vegas shooter - so, why would a guy who's lived his life off the grid, who's living in luxury, swimming in cash, and operating with Fed protection in some way or another suddenly decide to shoot a couple hundred people at random for no discernible reason? The question answers itself; no way he did it. Whoever did do it needed a body to pin it all on, and he was the body. They also knew that since he'd live a life off the grid, it would be easy to make him look guilty of anything. There would be no evidence to contradict them.

Several days ago, ace penned a beautiful thread concerning how the media is shaping news stories by omitting details and backstory.
So recently, Baltimore had two perfect examples of this take place. First was a report of a man and his same sex fiancé' being arrested for sexual assaulting of multiple small boys. First reports mentioned the same sex relationship. Almost immediately, the headlines changed to 'Two men arrested...' Second was the arrest of the first openly transgendered medical officer in the Army. As of this morning, only the local Fox affiliate is retaining the mention of the transgender aspect. The other media is using the photo of the two dressed in their more traditional rolls of man and woman, with no written reference to the transgender status of the one with the penis. 77 Great Pslam: 27:1 Here is "my old friend" Rev. Matthew Henry's commentary on part of this passage. Matthew Henry was an English non conformist Minister and Biblical scholar who lived in the late 1600's to the middle 1700s. I call him my friend because the prayers which he wrote and Biblical commentary have been a big help to me.
I love Matthew Henry's commentaries! I also have my dad's 1908 Dummelow Commentary which is quite good. Although a couple of the contributors seem a bit enamored of Islam with regards to some of the OT texts. But Matthew Henry's work on the scriptures is exceptional. Urg. I have offended a relative.
I admit I'm somewhat persnickety and sometimes I'm not sure when to say something. This relative is going to be using my car. The last time she used my car (with another relative), it came back with shallow gouges in the back bumper. These aren't just scuffs or scratches. It looks like somebody's heavy suitcase had a bent rivet or something sharp and perhaps the weaker relative lost control of the suitcase while taking it out of the trunk. Neither said anything about it when they returned my car so I don't think they were aware. So I asked the relative to make sure to use my trunk rather than the back seat in case the sharp thing was on her suitcase. I don't want cuts in the leather upholstery. On that side of the family, things like this makes me a judgmental person. In their family culture, everything they do is wonderful and only mean people have any issues with what they do. On the other hand, they feel quite free to assume attitudes that are judgmental in my view, such as imputing bad motives to people when there's no evidence. I see I left out an important detail. This relative is helping us get both of our cars to our new home.
And my concern with everyone in this branch of the family is how to not hurt feelings while avoiding the (usually minor) damages to various bits of property. One person would not give me a second to untangle an item we were unloading and just ripped it out and damaged the item. Another wanted to clean our bathroom while her handyman husband installed a new shower fixture. I supplied the cleanser I wanted her to use and went to work. While I was gone, she bought something she liked that very clearly said "do not use on metal fixtures" and used it on our new metal fixtures and damaged the finish. Part of their culture is a lack of awareness. They just don't notice when they are doing something damaging. And my desire to not unnecessarily damage things makes me materialistic in their view. And judgmental if I say anything to avoid damage. Posted by: Emmie at October 01, 2022 10:58 AM (6RgRK) Posted by: kallisto at October 01, 2022 10:58 AM (dCxaZ) 202

Much the same problem occurred when the CTA began running the 79th Street bus line directly into Ford City mall on 77th and Cicero. Good idea, bad results.
Posted by: JM in Florida at October 01, 2022 10:04 AM My grandma lived within a block of Ford City Mall. As a kid in the 80s, we used to walk from her house to the mall whenever I visited. I remember there was a lower level area with a bunch of smaller stores where she took me to get my haircut a lot. And I remember my uncle took me the big bowling alley they used to have there in the mall. Great memories. But yeah, I remember that the mall went downhill in the 1990s. That whole area near Ford City mall was built up a LOT over the years from the 1990s forward. I used to work at Kohl's across the street from there for a couple summers during college. My mom worked there when I was in high school in customer service. There was a Circuit City, Popeye's Chicken, Montgomery Ward's. They built a huge Walmart on Cicero by the hill down the street from Ford City. So many things got built up in that area. But then it all came crumbling down when the 'bad results' you mention started moving their way to the neighborhood. Posted by: Clyde Shelton at October 01, 2022 10:59 AM (Do5/p) 204

Once upon a time I did lend my BFF my car when he and his GF visited me. We lived in separate cities and they took the car to do some sight seeing for a day.. The car had a gouge in it but neither of them noticed it until they got back home and thought they caused it. So my friend took it to a body shop for an estimate that afternoon and wrote a check out to me for the amount of the estimate.
I love that dude (tear rolling down my cheek). But that was many moons ago. Policy today is no car lending. Too much shit with insurance and liability and all that. You can rent a car for $40 a day. Posted by: Joe XiDen at October 01, 2022 10:59 AM (3vQN0) 207
