Power outages bring with them a slew of questions: How can I charge my phone? Can I save the food in my refrigerator? How can I make my home's inside temperature more comfortable? If the power goes out, turn off and unplug all unnecessary electrical equipment, including sensitive electronics and turn off and disconnect any appliances (like stoves), equipment or electronics you were using. When power comes back on, surges or spikes can damage equipment. But leave at least one light turned on so you'll know when the power comes back on.Lots of ideas at the link. Not vouching for all of them. Got other suggestions? Deaths from individual vehicle batteries, more big fires, etc. documented in the thread. By 2030, the United States is expected to see as much as one million total tons of solar panel waste. By 2050, the United States is expected to have the second largest number of end-of-life panels in the world, with as many as an estimated 10 million total tons of panels. What is going to happen to all that waste, much of it toxic? Wind turbines typically contain more than 8,000 different components. One such component are magnets made from neodymium and dysprosium; rare earth minerals mined almost exclusively in China. Extracting REs is an energy intensive and heavily polluting process, which makes a mockery of "clean energy" all by itself. In 2020 it was estimated that a 11- to 26-fold expansion of RE supply is needed for meeting global wind-power targets. Mining one ton of rare earth minerals produces about one ton of radioactive waste, according to the Institute for the Analysis of Global Security. According to the Chinese Society for Rare Earths, "one ton of calcined rare earth ore generates 9,600 to 12,000 cubic meters (339,021 to 423,776 cubic feet) of waste gas containing dust concentrate, hydrofluoric acid, sulfur dioxide, and sulfuric acid, [and] approximately 75 cubic meters (2,649 cubic feet) of acidic wastewater." The Redheaded libertarian brings the fire: It's incredible to me that Kamala Harris went on national television and said federal aid will be given out racially when some Floridians of all backgrounds have just lost everything It's beyond adding insult to injury. She used her status & flexed her power to revictimize them. Federal aid is NOT being given out "equitably". That was another lie out of this establishment who dangles money in front of voter blocs like heroin.Others continue in the thread.

If you are already drawing government assistance for anything from food to utility assistance to free housing, can you really "lose" anything?
The government stepping in to offer food, housing and utilities isn't really doing anything they weren't already doing. For many people, they grow up and live in what is essentially a "state of emergency" for their entire lives and for their children's lives and for many, many generations to come. Is like a permanent state of post-hurricane assistance for certain communities of people. Perpetual hurricane. Posted by: Bitter Clinger at October 01, 2022 11:23 AM (XndHZ) 45

So the Russians distributing the video of him, Joe Biden, making explicit threats against Nordstream are "disinformation". Yeah, riiight.
The Daily Mail claimed that Biden denied bombing the pipelines, but that's not what Biden actually said. Here's an idea! Have Defense Secretary Austin stand in front of the TV cameras, and state: "We did not sabotage the Nordstream pipelines." Simple! The more that denials are only made by an anonymous "senior defense official", and the more Biden engages in Clintonesque word parsing, the more certain it seems that we did the sabotage. The non-profit is entitled "(Corporation name) Cares". I asked in the comments if the corporation would be matching employee donations and issuing statements of giving for tax purposes. No response 36 hours later. So I then asked if it could be renamed "Hourly Employees of (Corporation Name) Cares" so as to more accurately represent the nature of the giving, and so that the public wouldn't misunderstand the source of the giving should the corporation use this giving in a statement of what good work they do in the community, while simultaneously claiming a corporate tax credit. Basses come in a variety of sizes.
The full size bass in sometimes called the double bass. The bass in the video is a 3/4 size bass which is the standard in jazz and pop groups. Rarely you can find 5/8 size and even 1/2 size basses. If the current idiotic totalitarian jihad were to force everyone to wear their underwear on the outside (hat tip Woody Allen's "Bananas"), would the response be to show how difficult and costly this might be? No. It would be instantly challenged as to "why?". Stipulating the ridiculous outlandish hypothesis of meaningful/controllable "climate change" caused by CO2 is the easy, and disastrous, choice. And I see little else from the sane side any more. Posted by: rhomboid at October 01, 2022 11:50 AM (OTzUX) 100

The bass is tuned in 4ths, unlike all the other violin family which is tuned in 5ths.
Basses are written one octave higher, so they do transpose. The "double" means that the note being played sounds another octave lower. G'morning, Horde.
I've been trying to figure out why it's been so difficult to climb back on the Trump bandwagon. This morning it hit me. Everything bad that has happened to Trump is the result of the wrong people chosen for his administration. While I think he has wised up, in the interim the left has made it unthinkable for anyone competent to join for a second term. The problem won't be bad choices. It will be NO choices. If by some miracle he were elected I think the outcome would be even worse than the first time. I forget, I think the estimate of worker's comp fraud in CA is in the $billions. Just one state. It was so bad the state actually put up billboards with a hotline for tipsters to call about it. One friend who was legit injured has told me endless horror stories of the fraud, from every single component of the process, except perhaps the state employees (that, he couldn't verify).
The obvious fakesters. The doctors and therapists. The providers of stuff. Just open, actively encouraging maximum draw-down of "benefits" without regard to need or whether it made sense. In a chef's kiss addendum, a few years later these billboards were replaced by some - usually in Spanish - telling workers to report their employers if they *didn't* do their part to provide worker's comp. So, from policing fraud to ..... making sure illegals got full protection and benefits. Yeah yeah I don't want any worker legal or not to be injured or without help, but the transition here is just, perfect. Posted by: rhomboid at October 01, 2022 12:00 PM (OTzUX) 116

creeper, wrong, on all counts probably.
"Wrong people" was only one factor, probably not the largest, in Trump's hobbling by all sides. In fact these two factors overlap quite a bit - Trump didn't have a party that would help him get people confirmed that they, too, opposed. Anyone offering any prospect of real, critical change will face exactly the same hate-storm, as will his/her nominees. It's simply wishcasting to continue to pretend the situation isn't what it is. You have institutional collapse. You have at the very least half the population that is dumbed-down and propagandized and misinformed and hate-filled beyond redemption. It's not impossible by any means that someone will be able to overcome all this and stem some of the bleeding. But Trump faces no obstacles peculiar to him. Most of the damage done by the vile vegetable's crew was done without any legislative changes. Ditto the benefits under Trump. Discretionary executive policies, or just public stances and body language.
Doesn't mean Congress can't make a difference. They can make an enormous difference, even if only "politicizing" (raising the profile, educating the public, and forcing players to position themselves and risk consequences) key issues. Kash Patel at Epoch Times made note of how they (Trump Admin') fought to stop the Nord Stream pipeline, and were successful for a while. They felt it was important to stop Germany from making Russia rich via vast Russian energy resources.
I don't see the whole geopolitical deep thought there. Certainly we don't seem to be trying to stop China from using energy from US or anywhere, I guess since we "profit" from all the cheap China stuff ... but that seems short sighted. You know one thing the GOP or any sane public force could do, which is never done, that could yield real benefits.
After rejecting the entire ridiculous premise of "climate" policies, warn everyone, especially corporations and investors, that their part of the scam will be shut down pronto at the first opportunity. For once, use the body language and jaw-boning weapon to prevent massive theft and malinvestment, instead of (as currently) to discourage real and productive economic activity, with "climate" hysteria and general regulatory approach that will squelch domestic reindustrialization as quickly as Trump's opposite approach goosed it. But that would require adults, with detectable character and sense of responsibility, and an electorate that created and rewarded them. So, fuggetaboutit. So, do you have something something you've accomplished recently you could tell us about?
January 13th, 2022, went into hospital ER at 11pm after having Bell's Palsy occur that afternoon and get worse through the evening (no idea what caused it, never "COVID vaccinated" and the only test I have taken for COVID was that night and it came up negative). Diagnosed with extremely high blood pressure (225 over something) and type-2 diabetic (A1c of 9 or 10 or something, don't remember). Confirmed not a stroke, but put on low-sodium, low-carb 2000 calorie diet going forward. And put on a number of medication. 9 months later, A1c is so low, I'm no longer considered diabetic (last check a couple months ago, it was down to around 4), blood pressure back to normal 120/80 and down from 350lbs to 285lbs. Long way to go to get to my personal goal of 200lbs (my college weight, 5'9" 200lbs of muscle), but progressing well. Feel a ton better. The Bell's Palsy ended up a blessing in disguise, because I was not disciplined before that to get serious about my weight loss on my own. they would surely use timers in any case ... so 17 hours apart would look slightly less suspicious I guess. Seems it is now accepted to be sabotage, Biden himself said so. Kash Patel noted that Russia could do it, since it (sorta) gives them the "9/11 type attack" justification to retaliate, with nukes or something. Other "experts" seem to agree with that sort of Art of War methodology. Of course they already had Biden on tape (and Nuland?) saying they would shut it down. Ukraine, with the mini-sub, via Poland ... also feasible afaik. idk. Posted by: illiniwek at October 01, 2022 01:11 PM (Cus5s) 243

Not buying that link ace posted yesterday to Lawdog. Much of what the guy posted is true about pipelines and for that matter Russian maintenance. Still not enough details and everything is still speculation, but the theory Lawdog presents is still a long shot.
A methane hydrate plug(s) in both pipelines containing enough oxygen within them to ignite and explode in a pipe? I need more data on the amount of explosions caused by this in underwater pipelines. As far as a plug coming loose in the pipeline at a high velocity and encountering an elbow or tight enough bend to cause a mechanical failure, not likely as I guarantee there are no 90's, 45's or 22's in that line. The only possible thing is a plug encountering some type of restriction and then rupturing the pipe. Me and my buddies that build and maintain pipelines were discussing this when one sent me an article of an underwater drone full of explosives found next to the original N.Stream pipeline in 2015, Obviously someone has thought about taking out the pipeline before. @273 SMH-Chernobyl was flawed engineering, not maintenance.
There's a lot to take into consideration for what happened to happen. Not that it couldn't but a lot of f'ing up and not following procedure in starting up a pipeline had to happen. You had to have a lot of people agree to usurp or bypass procedure. Usually not enough people to put their asses on the line in something like that. If it did happen, someone will sing. "Why intentionally blow up a non - operating pipeline?"
Posted by: polynikes the theory as I understand it, is while Germany had agreed to (stop?) not buy from Russia (hence funding the Russian wat effort) ... but as pressure mounted and Germans began to freeze, and industry also suffered, that German politicians would relent. This removes that option. Varying reports on cost/time to repair. Only number I heard was $250M. That is a lot, but considering we alone just dumped maybe $60B into Ukraine (or wherever it went) ... that is not that huge, making it a feasible gambit by Putin to get some of the world (and his own country) on his side. And it would take at least 6 months? in normal times. Posted by: illiniwek at October 01, 2022 02:02 PM (Cus5s) 286

"By 2030, the United States is expected to see as much as one million total tons of solar panel waste."
#1 - Is there any way to recycle these panels to make them useful as anything other than some form of art? #2 - How much of the non-recyclable panels are from China versus America (if any at all from the latter)? 5 to 10 years ago, there was a push for improvements in solar technology. Harnessing more % of sunlight by novel means. But also around that time, China got the tech, then dumped cheap solar panels on American shores. How many businesses went out of business because OSHA and similar alphabet agencies frown upon actual slavery and dumping of waste where your subjects eat and sleep, but only for American companies? Not to mention the lack of care for quality control that China is known for. The globalists bent us over and reamed us out. The greenies followed along because they hate humanity. Hi, I don't have a lot of time to hang out here, so quick hits.
I checked the news and I haven't found any Tesla factory battery fires. Fremont had a boiler room fire and a fire in an area under construction, and going back years had paint shop fires. Berlin had a giant fire in a cardboard recycling area. For all of these fires, arson is a possible cause, and the one in Germany really looks suspicious to me. Can you use an electric vehicle to flee a disaster, buy tools, and come back? Sure, why not? Electric vehicles are vehicles. Gas or diesel have the great property that you can have a fuel can and (a) it's fast to use it and (b) you can go dozens of miles from it, so that's better than electric. Electric vehicles can charge at home if you have solar, so that's better if your home didn't get hit. The more homes have solar, the more resilient an area gets in total. Will electric cars save people money? Yes, once the purchase price drops a bit more. They are already cheaper to operate and maintain, but cost a lot up front. If they are cheaper just to buy then most people will want to switch. Posted by: mr_jack at October 01, 2022 04:22 PM (57l0O) 310
How long can I run my electric heat on solar/batteries? I have a heat pump that takes less power to heat my entire house than a plug-in space heater takes. Similar to my electric car, this cost a lot up front but is cheaper to operate.
Idiot Democrats are talking like everyone can just snap their fingers and switch to heat pumps overnight. It's going to take time. But I (and mrs_jack) love our heat pump and I'm glad I was able to get it. Anyway I can run the heat in the winter for over a full day off the backup batteries. I haven't been through winter with the solar power yet so I don't know whether I would be able to run the heat for an extended period (recharging the batteries with the solar) but I can tell you that if a disaster happens in the summer, we could go for weeks with no problem, cooling the house 24/7 and even charging the car with the solar. On a sunny day in August, one hour of charging close to noon can charge the car enough to drive 30 miles... so I totally can operate the house while charging the house batteries and charging the car. During the winter, it will not be anywhere near as good but it will be a lot better than not having backup power. Posted by: mr_jack at October 01, 2022 04:29 PM (57l0O) 311
I was pretty convinced by Gateway Pundit that Biden had it done, but Lawdog has me questioning.
One of the commenters made the excellent point that if Biden had done it, it would have been screwed up. Posted by: Hawkpilot at October 01, 2022 12:57 PM (XlEmZ) Well the four separate comments attributing it to us by Biden and other insiders could be construed as screwing it up. And the supposed rallying of the populace as propaganda is a bit strange - the West already has tried to destroy their economy by their own claims and wants to topple the government - by their own claims. Not sure Gazprom taking a loss on a closed pipeline sparks patriotic furor. Posted by: Oldcat at October 01, 2022 04:34 PM (eoQWY) Posted by: SFGoth at October 01, 2022 04:53 PM (KAi1n) 313
308 How many businesses went out of business because OSHA and similar alphabet agencies frown upon actual slavery and dumping of waste where your subjects eat and sleep, but only for American companies?
Not federal OSHA; not for that. However, about 20 years ago, a Bureau of Prisons (BOP) safety manager began raising alarms about (BOP)'s prison industry computer and other electronics recycling program during which prison workers and prisoners were exposed to over 30 heavy metals, such as cadium & lead, along with broken glass. Following IG investigation, the program ceased, with final abatement completed around 2009. (BOP is under the DOJ.) To state the obvious, recycling programs can be hazardous in many ways and also, yes, especially for private employers any # of agencies - federal &/or state - may be involved. Peace. > Stop being absurd. >They are not "vehicles" for people who need actual vehicles. My Tesla Model S carries more stuff+people than my old station wagon used to carry. I could throw a few tools and generators in the back, no problem. If you really want to carry a lot of stuff a truck would be better. Electric trucks are coming. The Ford F-150 electric edition is actually quite popular but has three major problems: (a) Ford can't make a profit on it, (b) Ford can't make enough of it, and (c) it's not fit for towing. Well, a 1908 Model T isn't fit for towing either, despite being a gasoline vehicle. Give the electric vehicles some time; they'll get there. But don't try to tell me things like Electric vehicles are not "for people who need actual vehicles." I love my electric car and would buy it again. Just because Democrat idiots are trying to say that poor people hurt by their policies can simply buy electric cars, doesn't mean that electric cars are bad. I'm in favor of letting people decide when (if ever) they buy any electric vehicles, but I'm confident most people will want them soon.
