Anthony Fauci to Step Down from Government Position as Head of NIAID, Avoiding Congressional Grilling
Update: The Anthony Fauci Tribute Thread

saintfauci.jpg

As I understand it -- and I might not understand it -- Congress can always call in a government employee for questioning (unless, like Wray, they decide they're calling an early weekend on Thursday afternoon and taking the FBI's Gulfstream to the Adirondacks), but they cannot just call in a private citizen.

They can issue a subpoena, but as the Trump people are showing, those subpoenas can be resisted or fought.

And it looks like Fauci doesn't want to answer any questions about funding the creation of Covid.

Assuming the Republicans take the House, they will assume power in January.

Fauci will bug out in December.

The Washington Post
@washingtonpost

Breaking news: Anthony S. Fauci, the nation's preeminent infectious-disease expert, plans to step down in December after more than a half-century of public service, he announced Monday.

BREAKING: Fauci to step down right before Republicans are expected to take control of Congress and commence investigations into his funding of the Wuhan Lab and pandemic response.

Justin Hart linked this email from 2020 in which Fauci dreamed about a movie about himself, starring Brad Pitt:

That might be a motivator, but I doubt it's the prime motivator. He can just tell Congress to go screw and there will be no consequences. If you're in the ruling class or even just vaguely adjacent to it, you can lie to Congress with impunity or just tell them fuck off. There are no rules and Congressional hearings are a joke and a half. They're pointless. Nothing comes of them, everyone lies and they're just low-quality theater. Fauci knows that.

But by quitting on his own terms, he gets a full pension, can refer to his decades of honorable service, take his money and ride off to some think tank to extract a bit more graft before he finally keels over. no muss, no fuss. The Administration also gets rid of someone who's outlived his usefulness without making it an election factor for anyone.

In all seriousness, I don't think it's about hearings, I think it 's about Congress' ability to subpoena his private documents. If he's still a government employee after January, he has no right to claim his documents are private, he has to turn them all over.

I'm confident he'll be hosting a grand backyard bonfire on January 19. If you get rid of docs after they're requested, it's a felony, but if you get rid of them the day before they're requested, then too bad, so sad, it's just one a ' them things. Oh and if you destroy documents as a public employee, it's a crime, but if you do it to your own stuff as a private citizen, it's cool.

THIS is the larger and still completely ignored disaster that should be examined, names named, nonsense called out, etc.

But not even a trace of a fragment of anything like it will happen. There is a rift between the hard left and the liberals, and it isn't new. There are a ton of libs who are not down with what the progs are doing. Most of this is social/cultural stuff, but not all of it. One thing I miss about Rush, that none of the conservative voices trying to fill the void of his passing quite manages to do in the way he did, is express eternal optimism. Even when the chips were down and even when the news was grim, he remained optimistic in the future of America; that the best days for us were still ahead. It wasn't a Pollyanna-ish hope, but a hope that sprang from decades of understanding history and politics and the nature of people, mixed with his love of country. It was able to help me see lights in the darkness. It is sorely needed and missed.

Jones does have a point. That said, Trump could say the following:

"We were dealing with a global pandemic that shut down the world economy. The only way people would lose enough of their collective fear to stop isolating is by getting a vaccine out there ASAP. Operation Warp Speed wasn't perfect, but we had a vaccine - as promised - before Nov 2020."

"We were dealing with a global pandemic that shut down the world economy. The only way people would lose enough of their collective fear to stop isolating is by getting a vaccine out there ASAP. Operation Warp Speed wasn't perfect, but we had a vaccine - as promised - before Nov 2020."

309 There is indeed an "excess death" paradox/issue across the western world for 2021, and I think 2022. Excess death means numbers in excess of some rolling average, it's not a normative term. Also a birth-rate collapse in many - but not all - places.

Western medical and scientific institutions/cultures are so, so degraded that it will probably be left up to independent analysts to document how "mitigations" and "non-pharmaceutical interventions" had no material positive impact on outcomes - or even made them worse. Just as during the "crisis" itself.

For vaccines, same-same but I'd expect an even more ferocious isolation of anyone doing straight analysis - the $$$ involved being what they are, and the perverse incentives/ethical collapse being what they are in that particular sector.

GOTV is always better but campaign managers hate it--reason is commission rates are low and dealing with volunteers. Media buys, robocalls, and mailers are much more civilized and lucrative to campaign folks.

Wave elections, the voters motivate themselves without ad spending etc. because generally they aim to punish those in office. Non wave elections, negative ads are used to demotivate voters from showing up, especially unreliable ones that ticket split.

I will not argue this. No president has ever faced such an onslaught from his own staff, much less the media and politicians.

However, Trump being Trump, I fully expected him to come out swinging and calling out all the lies and propaganda pushed by the media. Drinking bleach and fish tank cleaner, inhaling Lysol.....all that bullshit needed to be called out by name for the lies and communistic propaganda it was and he did very little.

471 Apple will likely always find people willing to work here, but our current policies requiring everyone to relocate to the office their team happens to be based in, and being in the office at least 3 fixed days of the week, will change the makeup of our workforce. It will make Apple younger, whiter, more male-dominated, more neuro-normative, more able-bodied, in short, it will lead to privileges deciding who can work for Apple, not who’d be the best fit.

Privileges like “being born in the the right place so you don’t have to relocate”, or “being young enough to start a new life in a new city/country” or “having a stay-at-home spouse who will move with you”. And privileges like being born into a gender that society doesn’t expect the majority of care-work from, so it’s easy to disappear into an office all day, without doing your fair share of unpaid work in society. Or being rich enough to pay others to do your care-work for you.

The problem with this is three fold:

So, what would constitute actually battling in your mind? He leaps off the stage ripping his shirt off and crushes skulls left and right?

The revisionism here is hilarious

506 I'm thinking that Liz Cheney's election returns had more to with the timing of this than anything else. Although everyone with even the slightest amount of sense (like us) expected that, the margin seems to have taken everyone in DC by complete surprise. They're just starting to realize that the game's up, even though their paid PR flacks are still shrieking for them.

507 At what point did you decide that Wray was a terrible choice. The day it was announced, or sometime last month?

I think most people here looked at Wray with suspicion the instant he was announced. That's my memory at least
==
Hylian was saying that it should have been far more than suspicion. Which is why the request was for the "full throated condemnation of Wray" back in 2017 that he is offering today. The point is hindsight is 20/20. We knew the swamp was bad before Trump. After Trump: OMFGosh. Suspicion of FBI agent, vs the FBI must be disbanded. There has been an evolution, and some people like to think they knew then what is known now.

And the lack of imagination is sad. When you see someone "battling" the media, you'll know it, or you should That is, they'll leave the journalist humiliated. For reference, check Breitbart. Or, on his good days, Newt. The possibilities for doing this are literally endless. Trump hardly scratched the surface.

I wouldn't bet against you on that. Although there are plenty of "catholic' weirdos - Nancy Pelosi, Joe Biden.

As an aside, Fauci candle, he's dressed as the pope on that. That particular gear - all white - is reserved for the Pope.

514 Watching Tucker or any news media for political forecasts is pretty much pointless. Look to people like Dave in Fla or a few others that use concrete data markers instead of DC/NY party talk. At this stage in August polling, Reagan was trailing, Mitt Romney would be president, and even John McVain was doing quite well against Obama. Repeat for 2010, repeat for 1994, etc. CW people which is most of the new media are perpetually surprised by events because they rarely leave their bubble and past predilections in thought.

518 Even investigations don't end up doing crap. The only way things like this stop is if politicans who lie and steal to enrich themselves get stripped of all their family wealth. The entire Fauchi lineage should be bankrupted and forced to live wandering the deserts for 100 years before they are allowed back in to society. Politicians need to learn that if they screw everyone over than they aren't just going to be punished themselves, but they'll punish generations of their family.

520 Have you seen the ads on Fox for "OHMIGOD! CATTLE MUTILIATIONS!!!" Yeah, it's odd, but I've been reading those stories since the mid 70's. Just like UFO and BigFoot stories, they never change, they never get any better, it's the kind of thing the Weekly World News used to get a lot of mileage out of. With everything going on right now, I was kind of amazed Fox decided to scrape the gutter for that old chestnut.
Posted by: Tom Servo at August 22, 2022 12:33 PM (trdmm)

The rational explanation for that I heard was that blowflies and predators go for the areas with thinnest to no skin since cow hide is thick in most places - hence eyes, nose, mouth, anus, genitals. If you find the body in the interval before it gets skeletonized, bang, mutiliation.
