AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update. Prayer Requests:
5/28 – FortWorthMike requests prayers for his grandniece, Chloe, and her family, to find a kidney to transplant. Chloe is a toddler who has been on this prayer list before, and it has helped her. She was born with bad kidneys and had them removed soon after birth. She’s had multiple health issues, and is now getting daily dialysis at home. Her mother’s kidneys aren’t a match, and her father’s are a match, but are too large for her little body. Thanks for your prayers!
7/23 Update – Little Chloe is having a lot of bladder infections, as the medical team works to stretch her bladder (in preparation for receiving a kidney). There have been so many infections that her bladder may need to be removed. Please keep praying: for a kidney match, for her health, and for her worried family. 7/8 – TecumsehTea asks for prayers for her dearest friend, who came down with Covid and is very ill. She is almost 70 and severely immunocompromised. She did not vax and has made it thus far, but she traveled recently. She is taking ivermectin. The Lord holds her in His hand, and He’s in charge, but it doesn’t hurt to ask Him for healing.
7/19 Update – The friend is slowly improving with ivermectin. Her lungs remain clear, but she is still weak, in pain, and has headaches and fatigue and nausea. Even the meds for nausea made her gag and vomit! Thank you for your prayers.
8/4 Update – TecumsehTea sends many thanks for the prayers. Her friend made if through covid. It was rough, but thank God for ivermectin and answered prayers. She is still fatigued and weak but recovering. 7/15 – Chi-Town Jerry requests prayers for his wife, who is in the hospital again with AFIB. Although she got back to regular rhythm in the ER, her kidney numbers concerned them and they are keeping her overnight on IV. Prayers are appreciated. 7/16 – ellipse (…asked for prayers for a work friend (of 18 years) and fantastic young lady named Lauren, who has been sick and away from work for 3 months.
8/20 Update – Lauren is back at work and sounds very good and very upbeat. Thank you for your prayers. 7/18 – Diogenes asks for prayers for his godson, who just lost his 13-year-old son to a seizure/stroke. The boy had autism and began suffering from a series of strokes over the last few weeks. 7/18 – jewells45 could use some prayers, as she has been sick. Her daughter is in pain and struggling, too, after injuring her leg. 7/18 – Emmie asked for prayers for God’s guidance and His will do be done regarding the sale of their house.
7/28 Update – The potential buyer decided it wouldn’t work for them. The house is officially listed (in a semi-rural area of Colorado). She would appreciate prayer that God would bring together the property and the people who can make good use of it. 7/19 – Fenelon Spoke asked for prayers as she attended the local Board of Education meeting, about the grooming of kids, transgenders, etc. The BOE is paying a group of LGBT teens to tell their stories, and the teacher’s union has had a drag queen show. Please pray for protection for the moms and dads defending their kids. 7/21 – Blanco asked for prayers for the family of former co-blogger Dave in Texas, who passed away recently. 7/23 – DM asks for prayers for his marriage. His wife of 36 years file for divorce. 7/23 – Count de Monet asked for prayers for his friend Cheryl, as she packs up and moves from Texas to Tennessee. Prayers for a smooth closing and safe travels are appreciated.
8/6 Update – Cheryl is busy unpacking at her new place in Tennessee. The closing went smoothly. 7/24 – t_bodie asked for prayers for his son’s girlfriend, who is in the ICU with a failing liver. It came on suddenly and caught everyone by surprise. Please lift K. up for healing and T. for strength.
8/6 Update – K is out of the hospital and still recuperating. She has some lifestyle work to do. 7/26 – N.L.Urker needs a job badly, and prayers are appreciated. 7/26 – Nurse Ratched asked for prayers for Ann, who had a fall recently and is in ICU. She is recovering but has a long row to hoe.
8/1 Update – Rehab is on hold until she is more stable. Her AFIB with high heart rate and significant edema have been way too stubborn, plus they found another infection. Thanks for the continued prayers! 7/26 – Timon asked for prayers. His sister’s son, age 19, was killed in a multi-vehicle accident near Louisville. He was in the Army and stationed at Fort Knox. He was heading home to celebrate his 1 year anniversary in the Army. 7/26 – Browndog requested prayers as a longtime friend of his was taken off life support after a massive heart attack last Friday. He never recovered consciousness. Unfortunately, he was vaxxed to the max. 7/26 – Zod could use some prayers as he recovers, apparently cleared of cancer. 7/28 – Bitter Clinger would like prayers for his mother, who is having breast cancer surgery today.
7/30 Update – Mom came through surgery fine. They are waiting for the lymph node testing results. 7/28 – Jewells45 sends prayers of thanksgiving that their friend is doing well, after he had a heart attack while in recovery after surgery. There was 100% blockage in one of his arteries, and the medical team quickly took care of that.
7/30 Update – Jewells45 is “finally back to my normal goofy self”, and her daughter is healing, but it’s going slowly. 7/30 – Moki asks for prayers. Her cancer surgery has been postponed for 4 months so she can go through a series of extremely invasive and even 1 dangerous test, to prove that she will wake up from anesthesia. If she refuses the tests, they refuse to perform the cancer surgery. Her cancer is renal cell carcinoma, localized to one kidney at this time. 7/30 – Nova Local found our she has the C17 deletion form of chronic lymphocytic leukemia, about 30 years earlier than people normally get it. While it’s not curable, it could be a lot worse. 7/30 – Tonypete asked for prayers for his neighbor Karen. She is in her late 80s, and fell at home recently and gashed her head and broke her hip. She has Alzheimer’s and cancer. Her cancer is under control, but will probably remain in a nursing care unit until the end. Her loving husband simply can’t care for her at home anymore. He also asked for prayers for his granddaughters: C is 8 and has a broken foot. No one knows how this happened(!?) E is 13 and completely out of control on social media. The girls have an unfit, alcoholic mother and an inattentive father. Tonypete and his wife continue to try and gain custody, but family court is not on their side. Additionally, a friend named Marsha recently discovered she has liver and pancreatic cancer, and her prognosis is poor. 8/2 – Hadrian the Seventh asked for prayers. He got the results of his heart exam, and his heart is fine, but they noticed some slight enlargement of the aorta. He has to go back for a CAT scan to find out what it looks like behind his heart, whether it’s still enlarged or not. 8/3 – Fenelon Spoke requests prayers for healing for a congregation member named Dorian, who has a bad case of Covid. Thanks so much! 8/4 – Defenestratus asks for prayers for his young cousin, who was rushed to the hospital for another case of myocarditis. It’s his second episode since he got the vaccine (after having had Covid). He’s incredibly smart, athletic, driven, as well as humble and kind. 8/9 – Fenelon Spoke asks for prayers for her church organist, Jessie, who is having pain and intestinal issues. Thanks so much! 8/10 – Aetius451AD would appreciate prayers for her aunt, who is going in for surgery for cancer. They think it has not spread and they can remove it all without chemo. That was an awesome buffet, btw. I still think longing about the prime rib. The service was almost identical to the Catholic one, but the language was less contemporary, which was cool. I wouldn't mind finding one of the Anglican Ordinariate Churches.
My grandfather subsequently gave up is DAC membership as his business declined, so instead we did Mass at Holy Name and then brunch at Orchard Lake CC, which was also outstanding.

I tell ya, hard work pays off, I my grandparents taught me a lot about it. I spent one summer re-laying the brick walk at their house. Worked during the morning and when it started getting really hot, my grandmother declared a halt for the day as it was time to go to the club. She'd hang out with her friends at the clubhouse and I'd swim in the pool.
When I was hungry, I could go to the snack shop, order a burger and fries and sign my grandfather's name to pay for it. Those were the days.

The exocrine pancreas produces enzymes to help digest food, and these enzymes are excreted, trickling down the pancreatic duct and into the small intestine. The endocrine function produces insulin (via a complex feedback loop based on blood sugar levels) which is excreted into the bloodstream. Removing the entire pancreas would instantly give you diabetes, not to mention preventing you from digesting many foods.

It's weird how quickly the "reformers" moved to have ALL sexual morality removed from Christianity.
No scriptural basis, just all about the feelz (and of course enabling perversion).

She's an idiot and the attitude is vile I do, however, have some sympathy for women who leave the RCC because they cannot be ordained, and yes, I quite understand the theology of ordination as it relates to men and the priesthood. However, I have had about three hours of sleep and am a bit irritable so I'll just say I'd probably feel like knocking someone's block off if I were an Episcopal Bishop and somebody called me "Bishopess" or a priest and someone called me "priestess" .Just deal with the issues if you need to with them. I don't care for it when people here tell me I'm a vile sinner because I am ordained. They're not going to come to my church. Obviously I'm a sinner in need of God's grace. I confess my sins and ask for pardon everyday but if God wants to damn me when I believe in my heart and confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord an and have been doing so for over 25 years, than I'd rather NOT believe in that God and you will not convince me I am wrong.

God calls all of us to serve him in some way. Those who answer that call, find a way on the path he gives us. Clowns like me try to ignore that call until He finds a way to get your attention.
The church is Jesus Christ, and to serve that "church" we serve him. Period. While doctrines can be different, that doctrine must be rooted in the Word. It's one thing that's if you want to quibble intellectually and textually over formalities and execution of church duties. It's quite another if you want to pretend to preach his Word in apostasy. There is unfortunately a lot of the latter, and leading people astray to suite your personal social predilections by corrupting His Word is a rather egregious action in my estimation. But that's ultimately for God to decide. YMMV

Christianity is so far from traditional Confucian teachings that it's a big problem. When the Jesuits got there, they tried to figure out a way to translate the Bible into Mandarin but there was no easy way to do it because the concepts do not exist in the Chinese characters, which represent concepts rather than specific words.
(This is why China can have so many languages using the same characters - they can read the same things, but can't talk to one another.)
The Jesuits wanted to bend things a bit and use Chinese concepts but everyone else was "oh hell no!" and it was a big dispute until the Jesuits were suppressed (which needs to happen again, btw).
The prevailing view was that it was easier to teach the Chinese Latin, because then they'd learn the new words and concepts at the same time.

My godson has been in the hospital since Monday with pancreatitis. He's not getting better, on the contrary. Last night his gastroenterologist came off the top turnbuckle on him blaming his drinking and diet for this. Told him he has another patient in the same situation who will probably die. That strikes me as a very poor bedside manner. I asked his wife if the doc was bigger than me because I'd sure like to teach him to keep a civil tongue in his head.

Future legislation can gut the IRS and even abolish it. This is what this junta, Right Now, wants to do.
I can't even imagine the difficulty they will have in finding people with sufficient qualifications to do the gig. Not all will be auditors, government bureaucracy is what it is with all of the dysfunctions and pathologies that tend to crush the organization under its own weight.
Think of this is a warehouse for putting on the payroll people who are otherwise unemployable. There just aren't enough managers, accountants, lawyers and admin staff out in the wild to hold these positions.
Also, do you really want an IRS as a friend or neighbor? You come home with a new car and your neighbor takes the coveting to the next level and is wondering how to deprive you of that through audits and inquiries. At least that is what is going to be going through a person's mind. Only sociopaths, debt-collection types...

No one is stopping you from doing anything. You are free to live your faith and I respect you for that. I don't think you can find a single unkind thing I have ever written about you.
What I am doing is applying the rules of my faith and when a woman lays claim to the title of bishop or priest, I cannot acknowledge it as legitimate and I will use the appropriate gendered term.
And yes, I do take particular umbrage when women do it using the trappings of my faith.

MiladyJo's health has improved a bit, but there's still good reason to pray for longstanding problems. She's been doing amazing work walking our new doggie. So good for both of them.
Daughter and her husband are still trying to conceive. Wonderful kids who would make great parents.
SonM in town could use better health (he's been changing for the better). Also just changed jobs. Helps us out now and then on taking care of the place.
SonC, his wife, and their two under-5yo children continue to refuse our calls, texts, emails. Haven't seen or heard from them since Mom's funeral. SonC was drifting away since back in college days, before his first marriage. Pray the Spirit of Truth reach them both. MiladyJo dearly misses her son -- but especially we don't get to see our grandbabies.
We have so much good in our lives, but the bad truly hurts.

My experience with friends who became accounting majors is that the IRS is a good 'first step' job before joining an accounting firm. It looks very good on a resume.
The turnover must be pretty terrific at the IRS. Put a couple years in, then bye-bye.

Getting a little out of my field, but the short answer is yes. Not sure if there is a certain level or time course of alcohol intake that matters but would guess longer duration and larger amounts are relevant
I think the key question in my mind is whether the pancreatitis is acute or chronic. Acute form is more likely to resolve, and may or may not require dietary changes as an ongoing measure.

Docs did a quick hip replacement, and we all expected her to begin recovery, with the help of her long-time hard-driving regular therapist who helped her stay in shape. Instead, I got a call from little sister at the hospital that "Mom has made her end-of-life decisions." In less than a week, Mom was dead. I had no input, control, or say on the situation. I could say more but I won't.
Prayers welcomed for -- those souls who need it.

I think the 'English trend' was the beginnings of the woke push to remove sex from everything. Women were feeling slighted by being termed actresses as they felt actors somehow were held to a higher esteem AND GOT PAID MORE! I can't think of elsewhere where the female gender term was sort of abolished. Airlines went from steward/stewardess to attendant.
Italian has it right. No surprise when the nurse tells the lady waiting for the gyno, that the dottore or dottoressa will be right along.
BTW it's professore. The ending 'e' is sometimes dropped when used as a title as in Professor Rossi but not for Professoressa Rossi. Love all those esses.

Because they are! Our Wing Chaplain is a Missouri Synod pastor and he's a great guy. Their services are very close to Catholic, even to the point of using wine for Communion, which is handled with reverence.
I've got a collection of dog tags that track my religious preference - "Non-Denom" then "Protestant" then "Lutheran" and finally "RC"

That could work. I mean, if you think about a Catholic meal, the one that instantly comes to mind is a fish fry. Pot lucks are more widespread.
Still, you could also use a denomination-specific one, so "decided to bake the casserole" definitely applies to Lutherans.

Yeah, I grew up in a relatively newly established Missouri Synod Lutheran Church. At one of the first Christmas Eve pageants with all the kids from all the new families that had joined (I was a shepherd) the parents and grandparents were overwhelmed by our tour de force performance and started clapping in joy and happiness at the conclusion.
This did not sit well with the strict and severe theologian main pastor who shot up from his seat and soundly chastised them for clapping in church.

Yeah, everyone and every couple's particular problems are different. But if I were to bet on it, saving up a few days for that particularly fertile time is extremely beneficial, based on experience with professionals.
Also, I think reduced anxiety about the conception prospects from the woman's perspectives are a huge part of it. Anecdotally, you always hear about a couple's troubles and then, once they are successful once, babies start popping out all over the place.
Anecdote time. My dearly departed Mother in Law helped us finance IVF (a successful one!) for our first. For those not in the know, when you go in, they harvest ova from the woman, and at the same time, the man makes sweet love to a specimen jar. I got to walk the walk of weird shame/accomplishment back to the waiting room, where my Mother in Law was waiting.

It was really suspicious. It was delivered to us as returned mail. The return address is ours. The name is not anyone who lives here, and not anyone I know. BUT IT MY LAST NAME. Even weirder, a few months ago, when purchasing a firearm (sadly it sunk to the bottom of the pond) during the background check, they came back and asked me if I knew this name - the return one on the envelope. During the homily or at dismissal I don't mind.
But there is this tiny faction at the old student parish (before it was merged with the "townie" one) that clap at the end of each Mass for the musicians. I hate it, and am pleased the people who do it are getting fewer as time goes by.
When we first started going there, it was widespread, so things are getting better. I told one of the priests yesterday that as soon as I see the priest leave the sanctuary, I bug out because I hate it.
That's why I usually go to the main church.

The fallout lasted years, but the most surprising and interesting one was when I went to renew my license (about 3 years after the initial incident, I found the guy had gotten like 6 driver's licenses in my name with a bunch of different addresses.

In my experience, Protestants convert to the Orthodox Church because they gain access to the sacraments, sacred tradition, apostolic succession, communion of saints, and Church Fathers all without giving up their hatred of Catholics.
That's the one part I don't like about Lord of Spirits. The guys snark about Catholicism and get things wrong. Both former evangelicals, natch.

When I talk about the modern 'voice' being annoying, whiny, pitchy and annoying- this is at the other end of the spectrum. Rich, vibrant and distinctly masculine. I almost think of it as a 'style'. Bing Crosby is probably the apotheosis of this. Sinatra is in there, but he also has a pitchy bit to his voice that does not quite fully 'get there'. Apologies to the 29 year old 'ettes who may be fans.

Oh I'm sure a fair bit of personal hatred has built up on both sides but ultimately this is about fear of exposure.
I think sometimes we forget the irrational and over the top response to President Trump. Yes, he wasn't part of the club but it goes deeper. His biggest pledge when he ran was to Drain The Swamp. They are the swamp and they don't want to be drained. No president elected by a healthy percentage of the American public has ever been treated the way Trump was treated.
We don't know everything but what we do know is that they used tools designed to track foreign terrorists and other foreign lowlifes against an opposing presidential candidate and then President of the United States. That is far worse than anything they've ever accused Trump of doing.
Trump wants to expose them. They want to stop him.

You get a revolution when things were bad but get better and then get worse - people realize that they don't have to accept the current situation and that making a radical change could help.
If Hillary had won, we'd have slid into despondency without much trouble. People would have just assumed nothing could be done. Trump showed it was a lie, which is why MAGA keeps growing. It isn't about him any more.
The Dems can't understand that. They think if they kill him MAGA will go away, but instead he will become immortal, and others will take up his banner.
And just think for a moment of how the public will react to Melania and the Trump family draped in mourning. Kill someone, and then you get a funeral. People forget that Tienanmen Square started as a funeral for a reformer.

Republicans, and white conservatives, have long been hostile to public schools.
Notice the word schools and not EDUCATION. The left loves schools, they hate education.
A little further down:
Their plan looks like this: Parents are given a voucher for several thousand dollars that comes out of the state education budget. In reality, it reduces money going to public schools to a point where the schools will be dramatically underfunded.
Again in underfunds schools, not EDUCATION.
Finally:
All the GOP has to do is either let the value of vouchers and ESAs stagnate, or reduce them over time, to create the educational system they always wanted: one in which poor non-whites and LGBT people are unable to get a decent education, and conservative white Christians are heavily favored.
Wait what? I have been told for years that rich people that use their own money to pay for private schools should still have to pay public school taxes. So now it is bad that everyone has a check in hand and can walk to any place they wish asking for an education.
Very poor logic and writing D-.
