White House Stenographer Tom Friedman Throws Zelenskyy and Ukraine Under the Bus, Calling Both Corrupt.
What Does It Mean?

Jordan Schachtel @ dossier.substack.com
@JordanSchachtel

Wow. The White House just threw Zelensky under the bus and ran him over, via NYT stenographer.

He points to Tom Friedman citing the White House's "deep mistrust" of Zelenskyy's, and the great corruption of the Ukraine.

Julie Kelly
@julie_kelly2

Replying to @JordanSchachtel

Wait I'm told doubts about Churchillian Zelensky makes you pro-Putin and a traitor

Right, so why? I mean, it's true that Ukraine is corrupt, but we live in an Empire of Lies where the truth is forbidden and is only permitted to be spoken when it, coincidentally, and perversely, advances a Regime goal.

So why send out this errand boy? Why has this errand boy been sent out by grocery clerks to collect a bill?

What Regime goal is being perversely advanced by the truth here?

We had a similar Deep State hit on Zelenskyy a week or so back -- regarding Zelenskyy firing government officials the American Deep State apparently had on their payroll and thus did not want fired -- I think and I think it can be explained the same way: Zelenskyy is being told "You are being paid by us, you are our puppet, and we can replace you easily if you do not dance to our movement of your strings."

Jim Geraghty suggests two other possibilities: One is that the US Deep State has decided that Brandon's political fortunes cannot survive another half year or more of the "Putin Tax," and so they are pressuring Zelenskyy to make a quickie peace deal, which he's resisting.

Jim Geraghty
@jimgeraghty

Possibility one is that the Biden administration just wants the Ukraine-Russia war to end, and Zelensky isn't playing ball, so the administration is getting ready to leave Zelensky hanging out to dry.

Oh but wait I thought this was the war to save the Liberal Democratic Order and we would bear any burden no matter how high the price.

Unless the Democrats might lose more than 20 House seats in November, then it's a whole different story, I guess.

The other possibility he guesses at is that the Brain Trust at Langley has fivecast (which is like forecasting, only one better) that Ukraine has lost the war and they're preparing their scapegoat early, before everyone realizes the war is lost.

Jim Geraghty
@jimgeraghty

Possibility two is that the administration foresees the Ukraine-Russia war going badly, and is preparing to use Zelensky as a scapegoat - preparing to argue, "we did all we could, but Zelensky and the Ukrainians just weren't up to the task."

These are both very cynical readings of the United States government and especially its intelligence and foreign policy apparatus and I'm very sure neither are cynical enough.

It's gotta be worse than that.

Our government, and our Deep State, are not merely incompetent and cynical.

They are incompetent and evil.

I guess maybe the kickbacks aren't flowing back to DC promptly enough. The various "Big Guys" aren't getting their 10% payoffs.

23 My theory has been that after the Afghan debacle, the admin needed a foreign policy "win" to repair their reputation. They figured that they could drum up a crisis with Russia, act tough, and eventually negotiate some sort of deal with Putin. Instead, they screwed up and pushed him into a corner where he had to invade. Once that happened, the hope was for a quick, limited war. Instead, the Russians have demonstrated their incompetence, and Zelenskyy, rather than fleeing, decided to stay in Kiev. The Ukr gov didn't collapse, and the war is rapidly turning into a stalemate with the US and allies forced to honor promises made to help Ukraine continue the fight. But, doing so means that the US and Europe have to eat a bunch of shit.

Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at August 02, 2022 06:55 PM (IXpV7)

25 What would Zelensky refuse? His goal of fighting to the last Ukrainian is well advanced, but his problem is the surrender at Mariupol. His troops will be a lot less interested in fighting at the behest of actual hardcore tattooed Nazis who surrendered to the Russians. And even if the Ukrainian Army enjoyed infinitely high morale, that doesn't keep you safe from artillery. Logistically Kherson is a terrible place to liberate from Russia, and only a fool would think Russia is seriously intimidated there after holding it for half the year.

This is simple: the West correctly fears a Russian breakthrough, even goddamned Joe Biden now knows Zelensky is a bullshitting charlatan, and the WEF is getting ready to pin it all on the corrupt "Ukrainian" government.

Posted by: trev006 at August 02, 2022 06:55 PM (u8Evt)

26 I'm going with Russia is winning and they need a scapegoat. The economic sanctions have been a failure. Russia has most of the territory it wants and is settling in to hold it. Europe is going to freeze, literally. Finally, we cannot keep supplying the Ukrainians at the current level.

The political problem for Biden and Co. is that there is no way to credibly back out now, not so far as the voting public is concerned. After pumping all of those billions in, and making endless speeches about Preserving Democracy and all that bilge, a loss now is going to be be seen - *especially* by the LIV's - as one of the greatest foreign policy debacles in US History. There's no way out of that - Biden and Co. went "All-In" with Ukraine, and this is what happens when you lose your "all-in" bet.

An US Army Colonel wrote a book, On Strategy, about the war and where the US messed up. In general, his case is that since the US would not or could not for political reasons invade North Vietnam, we needed to do what we did in Korea. So, we should have created a buffer between North and South, and mainly let the South Vietnamese gov't handle the insurgency. Sure the South wasn't great, but they were doing a decent job. Cut off from the North, the insurrection would have collapsed. Fighting an insurgency was not the strength of the US army and it made it more costly.

The Modern Media and most politicians have a bad track record on predictions about big military operations. Example: From October 1991 until six hours after the Desert Storm air campaign started, all of the media outlets and half of the politicians in this country believed Iraqi claims that the coalition forces would suffer a humiliating defeat after Iraqi forces inflicted hundreds of thousands of casualties.

110 An US Army Colonel wrote a book, On Strategy, about the war and where the US messed up.

I have noticed more and more this year, when I talk to people who generally profess to be uninterested in politics and do not follow closely, there is still a definite rising tide of anger and disgust at, well, everything. There's disgust at the way Covid was handled, disgust at the tranny movement taking over everything, disgust at oil prices soaring, disgust at inflation and the economy cratering. It's not one thing, but taken together the only similar time I've seen was the 1979 - 1980 period. And yet the feel of what's happening now is an entire order of magnitude more angry - more dangerous - than that period was.

Everything, and everyone, feels like we are building to a blowout soon.

This is true. They wanted to see Nixon's strategy fail. By the time Nixon was in office the Left had decided it was a very bad war and the US was evil. Now they had to figure out how to blame it all on Nixon and having it fail was the best option.

179 My humble opinion:

Russia can't really break the stalemate, so they're waiting for winter. Once winter hits, they've got Germany by the ballsack, and Germany will likely sabotage NATO support for Ukraine to keep their people from freezing to death.

They've told the US administration of their intent - the war must either be over before it gets cold, or Germany is no longer going to play ball.

The US realizes that there's no way to end the war before the cold hits, and so they're starting to back away from the war so that they can say "well, it would have been great if Ukraine could have won, but they were too corrupt and broken to win and well, gosh, we did everything we could" and therefore, we have no egg on our faces.

That's it. Full stop. That simple.

Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at August 02, 2022 07:11 PM (Ivdso)

I'd take that bet. No matter how much is given to Ukraine, they can't hold back Russia by their lonesome. As part of a regional alliance they might have delayed losing until 2023... but Russia really hasn't extended even a substantial amount of its true power. (Bringing in T-62s is a bit much, actually.)

Ukraine's real hope was in being less openly hostile to Russian minorities and a bit less enthusiastic about putting actual Nazis in government, but Zelensky and Kolomoisky clearly thought fanning that sentiment would be great for drumming up hysteria against Russia. Mission accomplished, I guess.

The Russians are going to try and consolidate their gains and maybe go a bit Chechnya. Then they'll wrap things up. They are getting worn down a bit and the UC tactics will chip away at them just like AFG. Ukraine is now in a situation similar to that of the Germans about a month into their Verdun Offensive in 1916. The Germans knew artillery, but quickly learned the French knew artillery better.

246 They're throwing Zelensky under the bus because THEY are more crooked. This entire war was a multi-year effort on the part of the Western progs to kick this shit off. Sure, the plan relies on Putin being a giant cockholster, but that doesn't absolve the West from their schemes - either prior to the shooting, or in how they've slow-walked aid not based on fear of antagonizing Russia, but because they want to draw this out.

The Western left isn't the good guys. Neither is Russia or China. And while all of them wanted a war for their own reasons, it's likely the West wanted it the most, followed by China.

Meanwhile Russia has to be hoping for some sort of major breakthrough; they can't keep this up indefinitely. They have lost an insane portion of their serviceable military equipment, even if you define that to include 70's rustbucket shit that barely starts and runs and lacks modern fire control. Ironically, Ukraine has more bodies to throw at this. Russia can't just feed non-ethnic Russians into the meatgrinder, but they don't have ethnic Rus to spare. And neither of those groups is motivated much to fight, while the Ukrainians are VERY aware of what Russia intends.

Germany's military input is minor; but that's not the threat. Because of the incredible idiocy of the Germans going all-in for the Green movement over the last 10 years, and paying Russia for gas so that they could hide how that policy was failing, Germany has now created a situation where Russia can absolutely shut down their entire economy this winter - and by shut down, I mean things like 50% unemployment with millions of Germans huddling in basements, freezing to death.

Germany is going to have to sell out and go over to the Russian side before that happens,... and NATO will effectively collapse as an organization when they do.

I have a hard time understanding that in a crisis Germany is incapable of building gas depots or even more coal plants. In a crisis, and if "the fate of the West depends upon it", that would be easy."

Having worked in the energy field quite a bit, I'd say the one thing that common people don't understand about it is the incredible lead times required for *anything* you do. A country's energy output is fixed by what they were doing 2 or 3 years ago (and for big projects much more than that) There is absolutely no physical way possible to change a nation's energy output in only 6 months - an all out effort with everything available *might* be able to have some impact in 2 years, and even that would be hard.

Germany now has about 4 months til the real crisis - there is absolutely nothing they can do on the supply side to avoid that now.

397 The big push now is to make the Anglosphere stop using chemical fertilizers. They can do that, if Ukraine and Russia pick up the slack again. If they don't, then you will see famines and real die offs. That's part of why they are backing away. Plus they realize that Zelensky, like a true blackmailer, will never have enough money. They just gave him several hundred million more and he's still not happy. He may have a "hunting accident".

398 George Soros' plot to install hard-left DAs has fucked us pretty well.

Given how porous our borders are, Russia could sneak a suitcase nuke into the country and take out a port or a large part of a city. I'd say they're a threat.
Posted by: bonhomme at August 02, 2022 07:48 PM (eyxn4)

Soros is more an enemy than Putin. He has done more to directly harm the US. That is pretty indisputable.

Yet we are now spending billions against Putin, and not a damn dime doing anything about Soros.

Now, why in the hell would Putin WANT to nuke the US, if we just left him alone? If we were not sticking our finger in his eye... WHY would it be in Russia's interest to spend any capital attacking the US? Even politically? They have a limited population, with enough natural resources to outlast any adversary. They have INTERNAL room to expand. In fact, they are short of population to exploit the resources they already have.

Folks are stuck in Cold War thinking, IMO.

It would be - but I think they shut them down by refusing to refuel them as the fuel decayed. So, they have to obtain and process the fuel, which they haven't been doing since they said they didn't need it, and then they would have to go through a full refueling process (as you say, non-trivial) before they could start one back up. Not to mention performing any maintenance that wasn't done when it was shut down.

Its like the (to me) silly idea that buying stuff from China because its cheaper, is better than building it at home... makes no sense to me UNLESS we have things they also need... a trade deficit is EXPORTING your wealth. 428 What would Zelensky refuse? His goal of fighting to the last Ukrainian is well advanced, but his problem is the surrender at Mariupol. His troops will be a lot less interested in fighting at the behest of actual hardcore tattooed Nazis who surrendered to the Russians.

In WWII, each side alternately rolled over the bulk of Ukraine quickly once out of the rougher ground in the Donbas. But that is when they had millions of men to fill out the entire front. From what I can see, the Ukranians have only scratch forces along the border north of Kharkov to north of Kiev and don't have any reserves outside of bunkers hiding from artillery. I disagree on this point - Ukraine has a far higher number of willing combatants. Also the current Russian military is a sad shadow of it's actual Cold War self, let alone the inflated version we'd imagined it as. Will they win if they keep at it - winning being loosely defined as "continuing to exist" - not sure, but it's a winnable fight, if a brutal one.
