Someone showed a counterexample of this. In order to do that, things have to fit a specific pattern. You can construct a counter-example, with a different pattern, that you can't make heads or tails out of. Posted by: publius, Rascally Rapscallion (Mzdiz) at July 09, 2022 04:40 AM (Mzdiz) 13

Posted by: Pixy Misa at July 09, 2022 04:43 AM (MqQvv) That's from Dictionary.com. If you will notice this early bit of shuffling "to a rscheearch at..." it's missing an 'r' and doesn't follow the first/last letter rule. The word is understood as researcher because of context. You don't have a research, you have a researcher. Posted by: GnuBreed at July 09, 2022 04:55 AM (JOtiF) 19
Consider this jumbled sentence: The sprehas had ponits and patles. That has more than one "solution", but it follows the purported rules. Three possible solutions are: The sherpas had pitons and plates. The shapers had points and pleats. The seraphs had pintos and petals. There are even more with very arcane English words. This Twitter thing should be interesting. Was Elon's plan all along just to expose them for being over run by bots, as a way to devalue the company and possibly open people in the company up to investigations from the SEC?
From the start it looked like he was a madman for trying to buy the company, even if he said it was for free speech, as it's not like he could micro manage what each person who would deal with censoring/ banning accounts. We also knew from the start that the platform is overrun with bots (someone should point out the one story that i think ABC News did about the bot farms working to push Joe Biden) and that ther company would never reveal the truth, and Musk made bots a point from early in the talks, which makes it seem like he never intended to buy it. Hopefully whatever the outcome, the people having to do with Twitter end up screwed, and hopefully jailed, poor, or pushed to jumping in a volcano. In those three, you'll see it gets progressively harder to decode the sentences. For this effect to work, you need close transpositions. That is, the letters transposed are close together (and even then, some more patterns must be imposed), and the sentence must be context predictable. Take a word like "salt". The only other transposition following the rules is "slat". That is also a word. To decode "salt" or "slat" from that, you need a sentence where only one would make sense from context. "Salt of the earth" would only make sense, "Slat of the earth" would not. Posted by: publius, Rascally Rapscallion (Mzdiz) at July 09, 2022 05:19 AM (Mzdiz) 35

Consider the third sentence. What is the hardest word there, jumbled as "magltheuansr" The correct word is manslaughter. You didn't recognize it did you? Don't worry. It took an "anagram" program I'd written a a total of 1+ sec, of CPU time to get that. Well, I'd gotten fancy with that, and programmed a multi-threaded spawn based on the number of letters and the number of permutations. One thread popped out "manslaughter" pretty quickly, but the others went through and took a total of about 1s of CPU time. I wrote that, and another to permute letters of words and phrases for some of the word jumble programs my mother likes to work. I did not plan to be up this early. Yes, part of the reason was Stirling. I let him into the bedroom, and he immediately began his attempts to suckle on me. He seems to do it only when I'm lying down, like a mother cat, and early in the morning too. No wonder the shelter described him as "loves to give kisses." Ha. Incidentally, for "manslaughter" and "merganser", which are both valid English words, each has only one permutation which is a word. The latter takes less that .002s of total CPU time to permute, and only spawned on thread. The former takes over 1 sec, and spawned 6 threads. But each has only one possible word. Now, the dictionary I was using is big, but not exhaustive. So there might be some very arcane, very mysterious English word that wasn't included, so I can't really say for sure. You were giving advice on computers and related topics on the weekends. I will ask a couple of questions.
I use Thunderbird for email on Windows 7 PRO on a 10 year old 17" Dell Inspiron 5720. I am having problems with it connecting to my mail accounts via IMAP. Some are refused; others just state that they cannot connect. This comes and goes. Any ideas about what is happening as i cannot see deep enough into the system to know why? For my ham radio station, I have a 12+ year old homemade computer with an Athlon 3 core processor running at 3.2 GHZ running Linux (Ubuntu 20.04). I would like to upgrade to a more recent processor system with at least 6 Cores, so I can run Linux along with a virtualizer (Virtualbox currently) with two cores to run Windows for some programs that just won't run under WINE. Also, I would like to run the Flightgear flight simulator on Linux. My pockets are not too deep and with the current issue prices are high. Any suggestions on what parts to buy for a moderately priced system? Posted by: BillB at July 09, 2022 11:39 AM (ESjdZ) 84
