In Congress, July 4, 1776

The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America, When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. To prove this, let Facts be submitted to a candid world.

He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.

He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.

He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.

He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures.

He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people.

He has refused for a long time, after such dissolutions, to cause others to be elected; whereby the Legislative powers, incapable of Annihilation, have returned to the People at large for their exercise; the State remaining in the mean time exposed to all the dangers of invasion from without, and convulsions within.

He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions of new Appropriations of Lands.

He has obstructed the Administration of Justice, by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary powers.

He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.

He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance.

He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures.

He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil power.

He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation:

For Quartering large bodies of armed troops among us:

For protecting them, by a mock Trial, from punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Inhabitants of these States:

For cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world:

For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent:

For depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of Trial by Jury:

For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences

For abolishing the free System of English Laws in a neighbouring Province, establishing therein an Arbitrary government, and enlarging its Boundaries so as to render it at once an example and fit instrument for introducing the same absolute rule into these Colonies:

For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws, and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments:

For suspending our own Legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever.

He has abdicated Government here, by declaring us out of his Protection and waging War against us.

He has plundered our seas, ravaged our Coasts, burnt our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people.

He is at this time transporting large Armies of foreign Mercenaries to compleat the works of death, desolation and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of Cruelty & perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy the Head of a civilized nation.

He has constrained our fellow Citizens taken Captive on the high Seas to bear Arms against their Country, to become the executioners of their friends and Brethren, or to fall themselves by their Hands.

He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavoured to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian Savages, whose known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions.

In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.

Nor have We been wanting in attentions to our Brittish brethren. We have warned them from time to time of attempts by their legislature to extend an unwarrantable jurisdiction over us. We have reminded them of the circumstances of our emigration and settlement here. We have appealed to their native justice and magnanimity, and we have conjured them by the ties of our common kindred to disavow these usurpations, which, would inevitably interrupt our connections and correspondence. They too have been deaf to the voice of justice and of consanguinity. We must, therefore, acquiesce in the necessity, which denounces our Separation, and hold them, as we hold the rest of mankind, Enemies in War, in Peace Friends.

Define 'believe'. It is entirely possible for a non-religious person to consider the Constitution to be the excellent foundation of the one country that seriously groks personal liberty, both forward-thinking and historically aware enough to consider that all governments go bad over time and that power has to flow from the citizens, not the state. Its system of checks and balances is quite unique, and has stymied almost 250 years worth of attempts to subvert the system into one man or party's sole dominion.

As far as spiritual fulfillment goes, well, that's not my department.

That is tricky, since such belief is kind of central to the argument. I suppose if one really wants to bend the words they could interpret it as Law of Nature only, but I think that would have been somewhat radical at the time. Not sure how Nature would endow us with rights. Evolution wasn't the new thing yet.

I wouldn't kick out anyone who supports the documents, though.

I saw an interview of Crimo's Uncle. The kid lived with this guy and another of his uncles. No mother or father mentioned during the interview. The uncle said he didn't work - well, he did have a job two years ago for a short time. The uncle didn't seem to interact with the kid much, that he spent most of time in his bedroom.

Whoever offered that there was no father in the picture earlier in the day nailed it.

221 So, this little town has declared no fireworks this 4th, claiming supply chain issues and financial stress. Usually, it's pretty good show considering the town's size. Might have to reconsider the state of our local politics. Lord know they collect enough taxes, and it's not like they don't have a planning committee.

At least the citizens are stepping up with the somewhat clandestine backyard fireworks. Frowned upon, but not rigorously enforced. Have not heard any 1911s yet.

Disappointing that we're the only ones in the cul-de-sac with a flag out.

We were in the metropolis of Willow, AK this morning, to see the parade, in which you park your vehicle with flags flying, walk in the parade, and then walk back while watching the rest of it. Everyone came. The fire trucks were parked out front of the fire house, with flags and lights flashing. There was even a float on somebody's flatbed trailer. And some old jeep looking thing with 6 wheels and a bunch of already inebriated folk partying.

No fireworks, because of the lack of rain for the past two months, but lots of noise and nonsense. Just right, I'd say.

Good assumption. Dogs hearing is much more sensitive than humans by orders of magnitude. And they are basically children when it comes to understanding why scary noises happen.

307 I'm going to try and summarize a little noticed decision of the SC, about doctors prescribing pain meds. It was a 9-0 decision on June 30. I'm not going to go into all the legal arguments, but to say the effect is doctors will no longer have to fear being charged with crimes for providing pain relief. This has been a pet peeve of mine for a while, culminating with me being VASTLY undermedicated for pain with a broken leg. I'm pretty sure I wasn't faking a broken leg. But my doc said he was fearful of "overprescribing" and the results thereof.

So I was issued a scrip for less than 1/2 of what I actually needed, then was reluctant to give me ANY opioid scrip after 2 weeks. I suffered. A lot. I broke the pills in half. I waited 6 hours between. I still ran out. The pain was persistent until about 6 weeks out. Anyhow, this SC decision provides a solid legal shield for the future. (Legal Insurrection):

Mom's longtime Doc was sued for this, right after he retired so HE had to pay all legal fees, vice the company he had worked for at the end.

He followed all the guidelines, and Mom took LESS than needed, but at times... it WAS needs for a 93 year old Lady, with bad joints, arthritis throughout her body, and multiple stints with cancer.

If you travel that much, there are two options: Hartmann Luggage. Ferociously expensive, but bull-strong, lasts for years, and sustains International travel, serving for years. Did I say "expensive?" Hoo-boy, I sure did. But it's "buy once/cry once" stuff, and you won't have to worry about it for a long, long time.

Next option is to re-purpose Pelican cases of various shapes into the luggage you want it to be. It's the gold standard for shipping firearms or expensive and fragile electronics. Good enough for shipping dot-mil gear, ought to be good enough for your jammies and slippers?

The King wasn't really a dictator or despot by that point, and everyone knew it. He had to get buy-in from Parliament (and his ministers).

The government does something stupid and self-destructive. People who understand what they are going protest. And...the politicians don't care and do it anyway. And the majority of the population sits back and does nothing.

Which is fascinating in that, theoretically, this can't happen in a representative government. Nominally the politicians are doing this "for the greater good". But that larger group of people does not care. At all. And yet even though they are creating a strongly motivated opposition...they all still get re-elected.

Spooner, in Constitution of No Authority was not saying that there was no ability to consent, but that the consent claimed as pretext for action of the government did not exist outside of the fact that most people were not in a position to flee from it; all the signers of the Constitution were dead, and the only ones that could be held to the document were those who took an oath to uphold it, which were officials of the federal government.

Generally Spooner is good on this, but Murray Rothbard and Hans Hermann-Hoppe seem to have a better grip on the concepts.

I do like Spooner, but I get the feeling he is a touch too positive on his conclusions.

Thinking about it, do the Brits (or just the English) have anything resembling an Independence Day? Guy Fawkes Day is a day for celebrating the non-destruction of Parliament, which is nothing like an Independence Day. I can't seem to remember from my study of English/British history any time in the past when the people rose up against their oppressors and kicked them out. Sure, Boudica tried against the Romans, but she ultimately failed and lost; the Romans ended up pretty much just fading away. And when the Normans invaded in the personage of William, he became King of England. Even in WWII, there were many in the peerage set willing to work with any potential victorious Nazi invaders.

So it seems to me celebrating of our Independence Day creates envy on the part of the English/Brits.

I think the Datsuns sold in Canada had Japan-made bed on them. Only new vehicle I ever owned was a 1981 Datsun 4X4 King Cab pickup. It was a great little truck.
