Apparently, the SCOTUS ruling allowed for restrictions in "sensitive areas," so NY simply carved out all mass transportation, parks, government facilities, schools, churches and businesses have to affirmatively allow for carry into their establishments.

Guiteau entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity, arguing that the assassination had been "God's act and not mine." He even claimed that the true cause of Garfield's death was malpractice at the hands of his doctors. "I deny the killing, if your honor please," he announced at one point. "We admit the shooting."

Guiteau had a point -- many historians now believe that Garfield would have lived if not for the limitations of 1880s medicine -- but his insanity plea failed to convince the jury, which took less than an hour to return a guilty verdict.

109 Radio was relatively small compared to Movie and later, TV. About a half a dozen guys and gals were in every radio program, seems like. Cannon was one of them. His voice always seemed la little forced to me, like he was talking an octave lower or whatever. It's distinctive, and can always tell it's him.

Miss Kittly was played by a pretty hot babe on the Radio program, Amanda Blake sounded just like her. I think the TV execs just wanted a clean slate. Cannon was not happy. You can hear him advertising for the new TV show on some episodes - "be sure to tune in, I know you'll like it", without mentioning it won't be him in the starring role. That had to really hurt.

144 After being retired and not having "struck a lick at a snake" in the last two years, got a part time job in lite construction. So far it's working out. I told the boss when I asked for the job that it would be part time and I might have to take the day off on short notice on some occasions to take care of my disabled wife.

He's a born again Christian and before hiring me, thanked me for "honoring" my wife by placing her first above the job.

So far, the work has been easy, except for later in the day when it starts getting hot and I start lagging. But it pays for my tool collection fetish and greens fees.

183 Just read a USA Today article on the Akron shooting. None of it makes sense. The police response appears to be so over the top to this young guy as to defy logic. He was working at an Amazon fulfillment center and was a door dash driver. A gun was found in his car but who is going to drive around Akron at 1 am without carrying? Why he was stopped has not been revealed and why he took off is another mystery along with why he ran on foot until he was shot repeatedly and handcuffed? The entire story is crazy.

Thanks for weighing in. Your work experience on the tree farm sounds brutal and the owner of the farm said that it would be hot, heavy work and he took him around the perimeter of the farm. On the other hand he'd probably get in shape quickly (he's a little chunky even though he runs every other day) and the air conditioned places (supermarkets) are not calling him so I hope he'll get this. They are releasing the body cam footage tomorrow at noon. The kid had a gun and fired at least two shots at the cops while they were chasing him. He dropped the gun in the car and tried to get away on foot, that's when they went medieval on him apparently.

This is because Democrat governors and judges keep trying to stop voter ID requirements, which 80 percent of voters want.

In Michigan, the GOP legislature put bills up that make basic reforms and of course the governor vetoed them.

The Michigan Constitution provides that the governor's veto can be overridden via petition drive, which is what is moving forward. This was done last year to repeal the Emergency Powers law Whitmer used to create a perpetual dictatorship.

So yeah, big threat to democracy.

Good luck to your son on getting the farm job.

My oldest had her 4 days of training for her summer STEM mentorship job for a 9-12th "1st time to college" prep camp. To say just showing up on time will put her in the top 1/2 of employees is an understatement.

She desired a job that was only 1/2 the summer. It seems her job site might have had the problems of JHU gifted and talented camps. When you can earn money all summer, you don't want the half summer job, so you cancel or get what you get.

That said, she loves it and is excited for the 3 week FT camp (so it was about 4 weeks of FT work), and I think she's a shoe in for next summer (before we have her look for internships the following year - aka, the year before graduation). She likes being able to go on family vacay, work, and still have some summer.

Funny enough, it worked out for the best. She had interviews for 3 camp jobs weeks prior to getting this one, and they all turned her down for one reason or the other (never working camps before was probably the big one). They would have all been the full summer and not STEM (when she's a science major), so it did ultimately work out for the best for exactly what she wanted (although the 7:30am onsite start is gonna be rough in July, since I hear everything in this house).

So, if he doesn't get the job (but I hope he does), there may be a better one around the corner if he keeps trying for them...

The morning my mom died, I was hung over and declined going to the hospital with my dad and grandmother. I've subconsciously lived with the guilt of not making that final visit to see my mother, for the last 40+ years. I often wonder if my life and some of my subsequent life altering decisions may have been and gone differently.

When I was a teenager I spent a couple of summers picking canteloupes. It was hard work but the old man that owned the farm paid pretty good.

There were about a half a dozen boys and we would climb on the trailer behind the old man on the tractor to ride out to the field. One morning on the way out he ran over a bee hive in the weeds that he had forgotten about. Needless to say the bees were not happy. Yes. One of the reasons I became Catholic is that there is a formal process for this and I have found it extremely helpful. I used to find it intimidating but now I find it liberating.

It took me a few years, but I finally get what people mean by saying "I had a good confession today."

Thanks for the kind words. I was eventually able to forgive myself and when that happened, I was able to turn my life around. It just took a long time for me to realize that the guilt I felt was self destructive and I would never be able to have a good life until I got over it.

Yeah, that's the only thing that makes sense. Maybe put a little 'kick' in it as well. Thing is, if you don't know what you are doing, it's easy to add too much, especially when the Chinese are dumping over here in such quantities.

They justify this as revenge for the Opium Wars, which is odd, because the US wasn't a player in that.

Even Pot is laced with Fentanyl. A couple of years ago, my late friend's son and his buddy were found dead in his house, sitting side by side with a half burned joint between them on the couch cushion. Subsequent analysis showed there was enough Fentanyl in the marijuana cigarette to kill four people.
