The Dom Toretto of birds.

Go team!

Deer and cat are frenz. Kind of a one-sided relationship, though.

Like a scene from a Steven King novel, but like a cute scene.

Three second mystery theater.

They put the frame on him!

Big ears.

Joey is getting too big for the pouch.

40 Gorgeous photo.

Interesting article about that castle at Wikipedia. Built in the late 1800s. Also Hitler did a painting of it, and it was used by the Nazi Party for storage and cataloguing of all their plundered artwork. Fascinating article. It's a historicist construction, meaning designed to look a whole lot older than it really is.

The Wiki has Hitler's painting in the sidebar. Not bad, really.

DD#2 got to visit it when she was in HS, but they were doing a major renovation and she said she really couldn't see much of it behind all of the scaffolding and tarps.

Speaking of which, I just did something very unlike me - we are going on a cruise to Scandinavia because - long story involving COVID lock downs and such - we had to use it or lose it and there was a great offer and we're gonna splurge and get a Junior Suite, and I have a folding motorized scooter being delivered tomorrow, and anyway.....

I pulled the trigger and bumped us up to Business Class on the flights over and back, because we're not getting any younger and who knows if we'll be able to do this again?

I'm tired of tightening our belts so that some subliterates from God only knows where can take our tax money from us and eat steak and lobster and get free health care and go to college on a full ride scholarship and who knows what else.

Time for us to enjoy the fruits of our labor.

60 Neuschwannstein Castle, went there on a 3 day pass. Everything gold plated, his hand carved walnut bed faced a bank of windows overlooking mountains and lakes. On either side of his bed were mirrors that infinitely reflected into each other. Disney stole the design for the parks. Really, really cool place, too bad he was nuts.

Posted by: dartist at June 23, 2022 07:40 PM (+ya+t)

61 I don't think ridiculous. Not in the slightest.

The concept of a "Walled City" was myriad. It was expensive to live inside the walls. Taxes.

But you lived inside the walls. Protected. Highwaymen, and "Outlaws" - travelling was dangerous. Living was dangerous.

The modern concept - open borders, and welfare state, should be looked at in the concept of a a medieval walled city or castle.

Nobody would have put up with that shit for one second. No Fucking Way

82 I mentioned this on the last thread but was late:

I think we are getting a bit overly down.

DC power is trending like a bubble. SO much money and power has accumulated in the capital that it has over-expanded. The dems control DC and the big urban hellholes. Their control over more than that is slipping away. That is why they are greedily hanging on to J6 with all their might, they know it is slipping away. This is the end game. Might they do something truly stupid and arrest Trump or go after a congress critter of the other party? Yep. And it will just make the repercussions for them even worse. We talked about having federal officers being afraid to go do these illegal things. Trust me, they already can't go to alot of places and be comfortable.

And now Alito is reminding the feds about Amendment #10. DC is fucked. They know it, and don't know what to do.

Well that's what we were supposed to be doing last month with two other couples, but Dad got sick and needed me there, and they were still testing everyone every day before they would let them out of the boat. I didn't want to test or wear a mask if I wasn't in my room.

Turns out that one of our friends tested positive about halfway through the cruise, and she and her hubby were hustled off of the boat and she had to quarantine for 5 days in a leper colony, er...COVID hotel. Her hubby didn't test positive, so she told him to go on back home.

To add insult to injury, her Mom died from cancer while she was still in quarantine. They knew the end was near, but still....

138 "The dems control DC and the big urban hellholes. Their control over more than that is slipping away." Huh? Nope.

And the idea of "over-reach" is amusing. Mounting a comprehensive (clumsy and stupid, but comprehensive) quasi-coup against a candidate and legit elected president, abusing all of the most powerful institutions of the country - and having the "president's party" basically just let it happen - and successfully hobbling that president, all without one tiny bit of accountability or consequences (nothing), that's historic over-reach with zero penalty.

And I didn't even mention the ridiculous frivolous malicious abuse of impeachment. For which, again, zero consequences.

Senior national security figures were disobeying presidential orders and concealing information from him. A "military" that beclowns itself with idiotic SJW crap felt the need to write public statements "explaining" why senior officers would appear in public with the CIC - during outrageous racist-totalitarian riots vandalizing national landmarks. And this is just a partial summary.

Very small number of lemons in December, when typically 90% are there, and ripe. Now tons of green ones at various stages of maturity. Anyway, limconello (and preserves, preserved lemons, and pickled lemons, and various compound butters with lemon) were the result of having all a them lemons ripen at once, and finding a way to make use of them.

So now I'm pondering what "products" to make this time round.

And the palaces of St Petersburg - Peterhof, Catherine's Palace, the Winter Palace - my favorite parts were the parquet floors. All but the last restored from nearly nothing, of course, after German visitors acted in the accustomed manner during the 40s (81 years ago yesterday). Gave artists and artisans years of work in the otherwise barren Soviet context; many of them were able to stretch those gigs for years, restoring churches (as museums, not "working churches").

A "military" that beclowns itself with idiotic SJW crap felt the need to write public statements "explaining" why senior officers would appear in public with the CIC - during outrageous racist-totalitarian riots vandalizing national landmarks. And this is just a partial summary.

The overreach involves what has it gained them? They control the presidency yet every action falters in congress despite a majority due to their incompetence. Their foreign policy is unique in hurting themselves despite nobody even trying to hurt them back, but merely from the contradictions between their worldview and reality. Their riot policy has gutted their own strongholds and cost the red states little. They can't find a new ruling class that can outdo a senile old fool.

They've gotten everything they wanted and they still are losing because they can't do the work needed to even run a thugocracy police state.

380 An early ~2000 cracked article about "that guy" familiar character actors put the idea in my head that actors had permanent alternates. If you can't get Crispin Glover get Brad Dourif. If you can't get Harrison Ford get Dennis Quaid. And this is true for the chameleons like James Cromwell, whose alt is Matt Frewer.

381 378 Strange. Re: One of the pills the doctor proscribed for my stomach. So the pharmacist says to make sure to take it with a lot of food and drink. Looking it up on the net, it says take on an empty stomach.
I fucking love people.

Read the data sheet that came with the prescription AND double check with your doctor because it might be an off label prescription for you!

384 Crispin Glover is a good example because there was another actor who looked almost identical and can't remember the name of now.

Damn you, 29 year old memory!

385 FYI I stopped my actor of the day morning post, because of low engagement. If I figure out a way to make it more interesting I will bring it back. The actor-picking method involved spreadsheets and formulas, and so it delighted me.

Were you in Munich 78-80? My best friend was, and I got to visit her to 2 weeks. Her family took me to Neuschwannstein and another castle, something like Lohronstein. King Ludwig had a grotto built especially to perform a Wagner opera, but the acoustics made the sound unbearable.

388 A dumb internet thing were a person whispers over the net at you so you can pretend you are close to them instead of hopeless. They scratch at stuff and make other noises too, but its the fake intimacy that is the kick.

403 238 Dunno about granulated honey (though, spoiler, duh, you granulate it!), but a friend intro'd me to Real Lime dried lime ..... essence, juice, whatever the other day. Amazing, really tastes just like a freshly squeezed lime. Great for cocktails while backpacking - wait, that sounds kind of odd?

Anyway, good stuff for when/where you want lime juice but don't got any.
