Availability of DDR5 has improved but it's still a lot more expensive than DDR4, so this is something to consider if you're on a budget.

8 Morning all!

A whole 5 hours of sleep last night. Definitely a nap this afternoon.

Good news though. I had my annual physical yesterday and the doc didn't make me lie to him again. Last year he asked if I had gotten the jab. Maybe the fact I had the Nominomicrom in January sufficed.

To be fair, i kinda like Robert E. Howard's reinterpretation of an 'alleged' Ghenghis Khan quote --

Conan knows what is best. This is an abbreviation of the Ghesgis Khan quote: "The greatest pleasure is to vanquish your enemies and chase them before you, to rob them of their wealth and see those dear to them bathed in tears, to ride their horses and clasp to your bosom their wives and daughters."

REH did a nice job of exercising editorial discretion.

35 My new HP laptop has an SSD and a hard drive.
The SSD is of a brand unknown to me 128G KIOXIA.
I have had one reboot because of some corruption and Windows has lost Notepad.exe. There are copies that work but the one it tries to load via the registry pointer has a file length of 0. There are several files in that system folder with zero bytes. I hope the SSD is not the culprit.
Did I mention that I don't like SSDs? When they go they are gone unlike a platter drive.

But look at how REH tightened up the Khan quote:

For a guy getting paid by the word, he was... terse.

Coming from a poor family, my wife saved her money for years to pay for her wedding. The reception hall cost $2,500 dollars. On the car ride back to my apartment she opened up all of the envelopes she had been handed throughout the evening. $2,500 dollars.

Adjusted for inflation that's about $20,000 in Biden Bucks. What some of these brides and/or their parents want to spend is crazy.

58 Mornin, folken,

I'm still under the weather -- foggy head and fatigue, though I think the fever has broken. I do need to take a shower and shave.

Stirling the kitten did something new this morning. He crawled into bed with me and began actually to nuzzle at my neck! I could hear him, suckling noises, and he was kneading me with his paws. This is a 3-month kitten, so he left his mother quite a while ago. It didn't creep me out exactly, but I haven't had a cat who did the kneading with the paws thing in quite a while. I know we take the maternal role in their lives to a degree. (I used to say that if Arizona, the rugged red tabby, thought of me as his mother, the closest human analogy would be Norman Bates and his mom.)

86 G'morning, Horde.

You know those canoe accidents ya'll keep referencing? It's amazing how quickly they can happen. I got dumped out of a canoe yesterday, along with my cell phone and vapes. Never saw it coming. The phone is supposed to be waterproof but wasn't offering anything yesterday (though it did attempt to boot). Left it in a bag of rice overnight and it appears to be charging now, as do the vapes. That's amazing, given that I was in the water for almost ten minutes. Thank dog I left the car keys in neighbor's truck.

The river kept knocking me into logs and rocks. Between the sunburn and the battering I'm all kinds of shades of red this morning.

But I had a ball.

93 First hubby and I went down to the Harris County Courthouse and registered the common-law marriage we'd had for ten years. It cost $50. Then we went on a honeymoon to Bennigan's. Another $34. At less than a hundred dollars it was a steal.

96 I think it was better when people had a wedding service in the church and a little reception in the church hall afterwards, but now it has to be a big production. It may not even be at a church because fewer people are religious but you have a big reception afterwards.

97 The ONT had a discussion on EV cars and batteries, and a strategy of hot swapping the entire battery instead of charging. Somebody pointed out that current battery designs are all different, proprietary among the brands, and they are also extremely pain in the ass to change. No "hot swapping" going to happen with current designs.

Biut even if battery size and such were standardized across platforms, I can't see this strategy being commonplace. A typical gas station might get what, 150 visits a day? Well even if they have a stable of guys swapping them out in 5 minutes, that's a lot of juice. The current load to supply say 50 or 75 batteries on a "fast" 30 minute charge constant basis would be immense, wouldn't it? They would have to have a constant stream of batteries ready to go. Some charging, some rejected for defects. And secure storage, as they cost maybe $10k a piece? Maybe even have to schedule appointments, etc. Can't have everyone showing up at once and waiting in line, it would stack up much faster than gas lines.

My sister and BIL did that. Second marriage for both of them. Wedding in the church. Catered reception in the church Cafagymatorium. Catered by Lee and Eddies.
If you grew up in the Chicago area, they were the caterers if you wanted a chicken, roast beef and pasta, family style to do. Along with styrofoam cups for the coffee and lemonade.

Then back to their house for the drinking,

116 "Shrinkflation" in the sense of products getting smaller to hide price increases seems counterproductive. It takes time and money to re-tool your manufacturing and figure out supply for new package materials. I can't imagine it's an automatic gimme that what you save by packaging less product is quickly offset by what you spend making it happen. I must be wrong though, or else they wouldn't do it.

This was 1983, so cheaper. Also my memory may be way off. I'm pretty sure about the $200, though not that it was half the total.

There was a parish deputy sheriff who performed the ceremony, so maybe that kept the cost down. (He was not the best reader-aloud I've never known. When he got to the part about "If any impediment exists to this union . . .", he pronounced it "impotent." Forget it, Wolfus, it's Lousy-ana.)

One thing the last several years has taught me how to really take my culinary skills to the next level. Cook at home. I've even learned to make a pretty decent pizza from scratch in less than an hour - delivery pizza is way too expensive for what it is. I like convenience, just not at that price. The website explains his systematic plan for prayer, and you can sign up for a daily Matthew Henry devotional from the "Alliance of Confessing Evangelicals" if you care to:

We ate at a BBQ place yesterday that had a hand lettered notice on the entry - "If you try to rob us, we'll shoot you."

My kind of place.

175 Prayer request-

Please keep in prayer "Our Country Is Screwed". There was a picture and note about the death of his beloved dog, Fenway, on the last pet thread She was a friend to OCIS and others. I haven't seen him around since then, so I don't know if he's busy or just having deep grieving or both, but those of us who have lost a beloved pet/friend/family member know how hard that is, so please consider sending up a few extra prayers for strength and comfort for OCIS.

176 Heh, the country club is about 2 mi from here. I see golf carts everywhere. Great when it's not snowing and icy.

177 172 Little AZ town I was going to buy in has a lot of folks running around in old school golf carts. Good enough for going to the grocer, post office, or whatever. Saw a couple with solar trickle chargers, which in AZ makes sense.

178 My town lowered the core speed limit to 25mph because of all the golf carts here.

179 Not everyone "needs" a Ford 950 Earthfvcker to pick up the groceries down the street.

The philosophical sister to "No one needs an AR-15".

Fuck you. I didn't seek your ignorant and insulting opinion on what you feel are my minimalistic living needs and wants based on some stereotypical fantasy of how all pod people should live their entire deprecated lives.

We have come a LONG way from the spirit of YOLO where live the one life you have the best you can, to "here is your prison cell, this is where you will spend your entire worthless and hopeless life unless you become a made man in The Party"

180 Looks like we have a new batch of baby bluebirds in the nesting box. That makes two broods this season, so far.

181 Random thought, time is the most valuable commodity we all share. A golf cart society might run at a third to half less speed than a normal one - not Amish clock speed, but slow. I'm not sure happiness follows.

182 Do you think that cartel monkey in the wee bulletproof vest was a coke fiend? I mean if there are cocaine hippos, there must be cocaine monkeys.

183 There's a Ford 950 Earthfcuker? I thought they only went up to 850.

186 178 Saw pictures of a Sheriff's Posse in Sun City, AZ. Golf carts. Geriatrics. I guess high speed pursuit isn't a strong point.

187 There was just a fire at a junkyard of a tesla that had crashed 3 weeks earlier. The battery burst into flames and the fire department had real trouble putting it out, finally had to submerge the thing to get it out.

Soon it will become law that the nearest private swimming pool to an EV battery fire will be the ad hoc mausoleum of the errant battery.

188 LOL!! Easy Reuben... I agree with you 100%

190 "I think my entire wedding weekend cost less than $2K. Granted it was 4 years ago and very low key, but still."

My fiancee and I went down to city hall, stood in front of the judge, said "I do", and that was that. We didn't have two nickels to rub together, so we made a virtue of necessity. As for going into debt for a big wedding, we may have been young and foolish, but we weren't crazy.

That reminds me of a sign one of my neighbors had on his home: "To Hell With the Dog: Beware of Owner".

193 I am really enjoying the theme/design of your blog. Do you ever run into
any browser compatibility issues? A couple of my blog visitors have complained about my blog not working correctly in Explorer but looks great in Chrome.
Do you have any ideas to help fix this issue?
