But let's make sure to give Biden a big victory here.

You could get a MUCH better deal when the Republicans take back the House here in a few months if you wanted to address this. But GOPe wants a Dem gun control bill.

But the Puppy Bill contained blanket amnesty or white genocide or some shit and they never mention that.

If we had the 2 seats in GA the bill would have never gone up for a vote.

By having Democrats in power it allows these senators to vote for Democrat bills, then the next day they'll send out a fund raising email that says they need money to defeat the Democrat majority. When Republicans have the majority they are forced to keep on the mask, because it's not as easy to blame the other guys for what you (the Republican senators) initiated and voted for.

The bigger the Republican majority the quieter the lefty Republicans get, and the more likely people like Manchin and Sinema will keep to the right since they can't hide amongst the lefty majority.

Yes, it IS the point. They want to control the law abiding so the lawless can KILL YOU. If you DON'T think that's the end game of the left, you're blind.

They will control you completely or KILL YOU. PERIOD.

Look at Uvalde. They MURDERED CHILDREN to get control of you. They won't stop there.

194 McCarthy's ridiculous comments about border security are beyond parody. Just as the GOP electorate is. In 2018, just before the mid-terms, Kevin staged (his first ever!) a news event at the border. To talk about border security. This was, of course, after 2 years in which his House GOP had done literally nothing to support Trump's critical policies to regain control of the border and reinstate rule of law in immigration (they did, however, increase H1Bs!).

With an electorate this dumb, dumbed-down, and misinformed - the *GOP* electorate, mind you - prospects do indeed look grim.

But don't let that spoil anyone's excitement about a red wave.

Posted by: I Didn't Think So

This needs to again be question number 1 to all Dems, and now these fake conservatives, what does any of this do to stop the 99.99% of gun crime in this country?

This gets 0 illegal guns off the streets and would have stopped not a single shooting since Uvalde. If they want to actually stop gun crime they'd start prosecuting all the criminals they catch with illegal guns, instead of letting them off without bail.

This will also cause more gun deaths as militarized federal agents start bursting into the homes of people without a single crime on their record, all because someone swatted them for having the wrong opinions.

The whole point of these laws isn't to stop gun crime, as it doesn't, it's to give political agencies the excuse to kill people who aren't leftist.

Graft is always a part of it, but it's not what it's about. Nothing will get passed - ever - without a load of graft included in the bill, but it's about destroying government guarantees of rights. The main purpose is destroying due process, search and seizure restrictions and the second amendment and punishing those victimized by this destruction by impoverishing them if they fight. The graft is just a necessary add-on and bonus.

In rural locales there won't be any stomach for such things and in cities, where there might be, they'll be too inefficient and overburdened with other stuff to process more than a few a day. Even a 100/day rate in any one place would give plenty of time for people to notice mass levels of abuse.

Processing will be expedited by those hundreds of millions being spent on computer systems, but other means will be found as well. The government can scale up when it wants to. It can't do it efficiently or cheaply, but it can do it. If Red China could scale up its end-to-end social credit system to cover 1.4 billion people in hundreds or thousands of aspects of daily life in the space of a few years, Washington can sure as shit scale this up.

Moreover, things like this make mass confiscation less necessary. It makes oppression and crackdown more or less arbitrary or even random, which has the benefit of low-grade terror and stoking of fear.

These practices will continue however, because the purpose is to justify disarming us, undo the Bill of Rights, and generally fuck us over.

279 In theory I agree. But remember laws mean shit anymore. A bee is a fish in CA after all. So the text of the law may say due process must be followed. And if it’s not? A judge will ultimately decide who gets and who does not get to own guns and also decide what “reasonable” and other vague terms like that mean.

Posted by: Joe XiDen at June 22, 2022 02:14 PM (OalnH)

The point about civil control is apt. Unenforced laws are merely political tools to be used against political enemies. Of course due process is lacking, and there will be abuses, but in this post law society, it means little. This is just another tool to suppress political opposition.

Consider how much that DeSantis has been able to do, with a supportive state legislature. Now consider how much Trump was able to do, when he supposedly had a "supportive" legislature. Now consider how much the federal government has been able to do to shut down DeSantis versus what they did to Trump. The moral of the story is, spend your time trying to get conservatives at the state and gubernatorial level. It will do more good and provide better protection.

307 Processing will be expedited by those hundreds of millions being spent on computer systems, but other means will be found as well.

Plus it's easy to set up the system so that any delay or uncertainty will be resolved in favor of imposing red flag restrictions. That's basically how domestic violence works now. The complainant gets the benefit of all doubt, the alleged abuser gets the benefit of nothing and usually isn't even there to tell his side of the story, and the order of protection is issued almost by default. 349 Consider how no-knock raids get rubber stamped if you doubt red flag laws will be abused.

Cops will petition for a no-knock raid based on the tip of some crackhead informant that there are guns and drugs inside. Judges grant those petitions all the time.

It's drearily commonplace for no-knock raids to be conducted against the wrong god-damned house.

And when they win their primaries? Once again it will be "Hold your nose and vote Republican." Something many of them were unwilling to do when Trump was running BTW. The GOP elites know that we fear Democrat control a whole lot more than they do.

One way to get rid of some of these cockroaches is to get enough Republicans to vote for the Democrat in order to oust their incumbent GOP senator, preferably in red states, and at a time when the margins in the senate wouldnt be hurt too badly by the addition of another Dem.

It's easy for people to vote for anyone not a Democrat, until they find out what you stand for. That causes people to make a Hobsons Choice. It's the same reason I tell people not to count on Lettuce Brains low popularity as an automatic vote for Trump. Once Trump's name is mentioned the gap closes.

Posted by: Revenant at June 22, 2022 02:41 PM (/z9fK)

I like it. I think a big part of the problem is that if Democrats get even 50 Senators (and a VP), they start pushing for hard left, society-changing laws & spending. Meanwhile, if Republicans get the majority in both houses and the presidency they don't do a damn thing.

So conservatives are always fearful of Democrats having even a slight majority while liberals know that a Republican majority won't really do much. So the left can punish lawmakers (or at least believably threaten them) but the right is afraid to.

The GOP treats its base like the DNC treats blacks. Both get screwed by their politicians because both are terrified of the other party getting into power.

551 Hi,
I am writing to express my concern about Senator McConnell's support for the pending gun control legislation.
As our institutions and norms crumble around us, it is that much more important to consider how the laws we pass will be used by those who will come to power in the future.
I have seen no indication that the Democrat party is going to be thoughtful and responsible in using the power this bill would give them.
Without clear and sufficient safeguards to prevent these laws from being abused, this bill will further the divide in our country, while doing nothing to prevent the horrific shootings that are taking place.
I implore Senator McConnell to withdraw his support for this bill, and send it back to the drawing board.

Thank you for your consideration,
ZH Cohen
