From Beckoning Chasm: if cats could talk.

Cats actually talking. (From earlier this week.)

Sexy sunbather.

Bossy cat.

This is how a MAN mounts a couch.

Scared baby elephant. That's not a euphemism for ED or anything.

Baby elephant fails to maintain footing while chasing boobies. Also not a euphemism.

What a sweet boy.

Sharing with your ladyfriend.

Kitties.

Another kitty.

Diving polar bear.

N to the ope.

Mush!

Giddyup.

The ocean is enjoyed by... a deer.

Naaaaah.

The name "Stan Winston" clued me in that this might not be the genuine article.

Do they? I have exactly one trip to Tokyo under my belt, but I think it's more complicated than that.

That first jetlagged night, I relished going to a topnotch Ramen place that is designed for autistic people. You decide what you want to order at a vending machine outside, present the tickets it spits out to the window of your assigned cubicle, and that same window delivers a topnotch dinner (with beer!).

I have more stories, but this will do for now.

You just put a smile on my face, I had forgotten this event. Years ago one of my kids had a cross country running meet that started right on the lake front in Burlington. Not sure if you saw my response. The mail-in ballots aren't really a huge problem since a voter has to request them. What allowed the 2020 steal was they sent them to everyone, not just people who requested them.

The other issue ballot verification, which a whole other problem, and allowed the Arizona steal.

I'm not sure.

My understanding of a job fair is that there might be multiple employers there and you could walk from booth to booth checking out various job opportunities.

This was 20 people all coming into the same company at once. We all shared answers to important questions germane to our potential employment roles such as 'When did you most feel alive in life', 'Are you a cat person or a dog person', and 'If you could only have one meal the rest of your life, what would it be'?

Then we played giant Beer Pong with red buckets and whiffle balls, giant Jenga with 2 x 4 segments, out on a whacky hat, and then did 'speed-dating interviews' where you had two minutes to answer questions.

194 This was 20 people all coming into the same company at once.

235 177 I have a gub question. What's the rule on pre-owned gubs if one were to move to a blue state?
Like if someone had to move to Massachusetts - is there any reason they couldn't bring their gubs with them?

Posted by: vmom
----------------------
The rule is that you have to comply with your new state's law currently as while you can can travel with protection under FOPA, living there as a resident, you have to follow whatever permits, etc. that your new residence requires and they can forbid 'bad guns' like NY even if you owned them legally in your old state. Mass, if I remember correctly, gives a lot of authority to local police as to who can and cannot own firearms and there may be some that are forbidden under Mass law. It is not NJ but you have to have a license for a non-resident or resident if you spend time there other than traveling through it.

I'll admit, when I read "as many as" I thought "I found the lie!" Since "as many as" usually means "I'm quoting the top number off an astoundingly-tall error bar."

But, it's apparently correct. And not really "new study" info. Wikipedia says both 47XXY and 47XYY are about 1-in-1000 events. So, together, 1-in-500. Apologies for mathing at the HQ.

47XYY has "impulse control" issues, and are therefore more likely to be violent and criminal. Supposedly they have "learning disabilities," but an average IQ of 105. So, autists?

47XXY is also likely to have learning disabilities. No average IQ quoted by Wiki, but 90-95 is quoted elsewhere. They're also softer-featured, weaker, have smaller testicles, and are more likely to carry fat on the chest, as opposed to the typical male's "beer gut." Maybe "Klinefelter Syndrome" should be renamed "Stelter Syndrome"?

244 Sad update from The Ranch in the Mojave Desert where "Little Kid" the Nubian goat that was born on April 1. I just got back there today after traveling for a month. Couple of weeks ago, three coyotes got into the goat pen and killed a mother goat and one of the 4 kids that was born back in February. One of the Dobermans that guards the ranch ended up in the animal hospital with a pretty big wound in his side after fighting all three of the coyotes and killing two of them.

Unfortunately, Little Kid had one of her very goofy large Nubian ears torn off at the root and the other ear is shredded, but she survived and now has a very sad look on her mug. She wouldn't eat a carrot today when I offered, and she looked at me like: "Why weren't you here to keep those fuckin' coyotes away from me?" I had no answer for her. In better news, last week a completely jet black kid was born and it's a real cutie.

Also in better news, this yuge high altitude release aircraft took off from Edwards and flew right over my head at about 1K feet up with a chase plane behind it today:

My Dad washed out of USAF Flight School (flying the T-33 variant) back in the early 50s in one of these things. He was the smartest man I ever knew, and he'd earned an Aeronautical Engineering Degree in 3 years from St. Louis University, but he told me: "That jet was always two miles ahead of my brain."

I loved hearing that old 40s/50s jet engine, which was built without giving the tiniest shit about noise abatement, and remembering late Dad. Who, fortunately, washed out of flight school and therefore didn't get killed in Vietnam along with a lot of his friends.

It is funny which English words they love to use, though.

Like "love." Japanese doesn't have an L sound, or a V sound, and can't end a syllable on any consonant sound other than an N sound. So their "love," to English-speaking ears, something like rah-boo.

Or "chance". Especially in music. "N" is its own syllable, even though it usually gets pronounced with the syllable before it. But if you're singing, and spreading "chance" across three notes, it's "cha-n-su". Like this: https://youtu.be/Z7-1lWXwnoc?t=124

Tucker did a segment about the cattle dropping dead. They interviewed one of the locals, who said while they haven't confirmed it yet, what happened was a rare nighttime heat bloom in the area, pushing temps back up to 108F at night. Rare, but it happens.

Cattle can stand higher temperatures than that if they get enough water, but not continuous. They need nighttime to cool off. So, what they think happened was the nighttime heat bloom was too much of a shock.

The guy said that's the likely explanation, but they won't know sure until a few days later after necropsies on a sample.

356 225 Earlier this week we were talking about weird ads we get. I just got one on Insty for a Raman Spectroscopy training course. Now, I've done lots of Raman, so it's not completely off base, but I'd really love to know what prompted them to send me this ad. It isn't the kind of thing one expects to see in a sidebar, and I can't remember mentioning it anywhere online.

That is weird. I've never even seen a Raman IR, but done lots of normal IR for organic compounds.

That's a good one. Among anisong-in-English artists, I like Nano, but she was born in the USA and moved to Japan later, so of course her English is good.

I like this one for being the most upbeat music with the most depressing lyrics: https://youtu.be/n56SFvzmiYA

"I take the dreams that live inside my heart, and splash them 'cross the nightmares in my head, with trembling hand I try to draw, the person that I wish that I could be....."

(I don't think that one is from an anime, but I first heard her with "Nevereverland," which was.)

Kokia is interesting, too. Trilingual: Japanese, English, and Chinese. With a fairly long career; 17 albums from '99 to '18. It's fun watching how much better her English pronunciation gets across that time span.

The thing about the Mothra song that gets me is that it's not Japanese. I don't know what it is, but not Japanese. Where are these weird little chicks supposed to be from? Is Mothra from the Philippines or something? I never could figure it out.
