19 Zoomed in, though, there seems to be a sulky look to her lower lip -- what a writer, I can't recall who, referred to as the "I want" look. Of course, that could just be an intent look as she concentrates on pinning whatever to her bodice.

Oh, now I remember: Stephen King's characterization of Frannie, one of his leads, in The Stand.

50 This is a rather appealing painting. The artist has caught the delicate skin tones and posture of the young woman in a relaxed moment. The contrast of the clothing and background brings out the woman's softer features.

BTW, when enlarged you can see the brush work. It has surprising vigor for such a delicate portrait. Interesting.

105 The wasp waist is a fashion illusion. Notice that the striped skirt comes up all the way next to the sides of the bodice, thus providing hips and stomach with plenty of room. The skirt "fades out" next to the strong color of the bodice and the gold trim, and of course her naked shoulders and upper chest grab the attention away from the rest of the dress.

The whole poem (It's very short) is about pondering how huge historical events may have been shaped by seemingly insignificant moments.

308 If you can do winters in Vermont, I guess you can in Wyoming. Just a lot more.wind.
Posted by: Diogenes at June 20, 2022 10:54 AM (anj39)
-------
We are very lucky and live on a huge lake looking north. Without the earth's curvature, I'd see Montreal. In the winter, we have nothing between us and the Great White North to block the north wind. Holy crap does it blow, and blow cold.

I think Wyoming will have stronger wind, but not to the extent that it would if we lived inland by a mile or two.

Cheyenne gets lots more sun, less snow, and has overall warmer temps than here. When the missus and I drove around the west in April we went from Denver to Scottsbluff NE - Cheyenne - Vernal UT - St George UT - Kanab UT - Cortez co, and back to Denver. We saw a lot of towns in between. Cheyenne felt more like home than anywhere else. But WY has no income tax and Cheyenne is the state capital. There's always money/jobs in a state capital.
