19 Willowed, since we were talking about forest fires: In 1933, the Ellery Queen cousins set one of their novels about Ellery the detective in the middle of a forest fire. Ellery and his father the Inspector are on vacation in upstate NY when they are caught by a fire and have to take refuge at the home of a doctor/scientist atop the mountain. He's murdered, and the twists and turns of plot take place amid the steadily encroaching fire as it works its way up toward them. An adroit switch on the old "people isolated by a snowstorm" trope -- with extra suspense built in.

36 So basically- DC Juries and Jurists: Republicans are terrorists, are automatically guilty and deserve no presumption of innocence. Democrats, including those who illegally schemed against a presidential candidate and later, president, automatically not guilty.

Gotcha.

BTW, this doesn't end well. When you have a two tiered system of justice that allows one side complete impunity, things get randy.

Key takeaways from Sussmann trial:
1/5 FBI leadership was "fired up" about smearing Trump. They were hardly victims of the Clinton hoax
2/5 FBI HQ prevented field agents from investigating originators of Clinton dirty trick
3/5 Hillary personally greenlighted it
4/5 FBI used a journalist to spy on the Trump campaign and report back as a CHS informant
5/5 FBI confirmed that Rodney Joffe was an FBI informant concerning Russian cyber threats (including possibly the alleged DNC "hack")

Posted by: andycanuck (yikp0) at May 31, 2022 12:27 PM (yikp0)

295 This verdict will be claimed as proof that Trump was a RUSSIAN stooge and RUSSIA rigged the 2016 election for Trump.

The case had to be held in DC because that's where the alleged crime was committed.

As far as Durham "allowing" this jury, you obviously have no idea how juries are chosen, how many peremptory challenges the attorneys are given, and how the judge can "rehabilitate" a juror, e.g.

"So, you say you donated to Hillary Clinton. Do you think you could be fair and objective in this case? You can? Okay, that's fine then."

379 The case had to be held in DC because that's where the alleged crime was committed.

Posted by: IrishEi at May 31, 2022 12:27 PM (VhE0u)

Yeah, it's not like they never move trials due to the local population being unable to fairly judge the case.

Look, it might be a little better if Durham and his team made a huge stink about this. Instead, they meekly accepted it. It was a show trial.

So whatever, just pretend it's all copacetic and that's just the way things are.

I mean the win for conservatives was getting the trial to begin with, we knew under the circumstances he'd never get convicted, at best they'd get a hung jury. It's why he didn't plead to lest counts, because he knew he was safe (just like why Jan 6th defendants have to plead guilty because they stand no chance if acquittal in DC)

Hopefully the information provided will lead to a real conviction of someone, or be used as information in a civil proceeding. It also should make for good campaign ad material.

It's hard to play by the rules when we know that there are no rules for Democrats. They have no shame or integrity, so they'll never step down for conflict of interest, never follow the constitution, and never do what's right; they're idealogues who only follow the rule of liberalism.

Hopefully thre next Congress does what they can to destroy them.

Which is the problem in D.C. and America at large. Corrupt judges giving out lenient sentences or acquittals for their buddies, but those on the other side are more likely to get the book thrown at them.

Philly judges are giving shooters probation, because the Soros D.A. wants them on the streets.

I'm right here. Sorry, I have a job and had work to do.

I'm not sure what point you think you've proved. I said Durham would run a thorough investigation and if he found crimes he would indict and prosecute. He did. And you won't find a single conservative or independent legal analyst, the only ones who actually reported on this case, who said that Durham didn't overwhelmingly prove Sussmann's guilt along with uncovering a lot more evidence of a conspiracy.

I've always said that a DC jury would be problematic but unlike most here I said Durham was on the level. And he is.

Yes and in this case where guilt was obvious I am not aware of any attempt for a plea. Sussman’s team was supremely confident taking this to the mat especially with a backstop of light sentencing.

As an example of political misbehavior by the judiciary look at the Clinesmith case. Guilt there was obvious, a plea agreement reached, and presto Clinesmith is now able to practice law after lying to a FISA court. That’s breathtaking in its depravity and corruption.

That remains to be seen. I don't share your faith in Durham or any part of the system.

But it's also all irrelevant at the end of the day. Even if Durham is a knight in shining armor, unimpeachable and incorruptible, a hero and paragon of justice and the American Way, the state protects its own and the juries will nullify until every last charge is acquitted.

And at the end of it all, I suppose I am fine with that - so long as jury nullification more broadly becomes very much in vogue across the board. I have little hope of that, but I'd like to see it.

The only exception to an acquittal being final is if the defendant was never in actual jeopardy. If a defendant bribes a judge and obtains acquittal as a result of a bench trial, the acquittal is not valid because the defendant was never in jeopardy in the first place.

546 It is pretty obvious that Durham is doing the bidding of one faction of the Democrat Party. Their are two factions of note (Clinton Camp and Obama Camp).

You'll recall that the indictment on Sussman dropped right around the time Hillary was being floated for a 2024 candidate. The Clinton Camp put out some feelers to see how it would be received, and Obama set his DOJ plants to work to discourage it. Durham, in case you forgot, was installed by Obama. They wouldn't chance having a straight shooter in his position. He's a soldier of the Obama camp, and always has been.

Obama is lining up his next putrid White House plant for 2024, and he doesn't want the distractions of a divided party.

552 I think it was a good idea. The trial absolutely laid out the corrupt FBI, Clinton and the DNC. It also pretty clearly mapped out the whole conspiracy and that might have been the idea all along.

And yet, 90% of the American public will never see that and if they do, will not comprehend it.

Posted by: Notorious BFD at May 31, 2022 01:01 PM (Xrfse)

553 >>That remains to be seen. I don't share your faith in Durham or any part of the system.

No, it doesn't. Durham clearly did his job. Here, read this from Margot Cleveland. https://tinyurl.com/erz3zw2y

Or this from Byron York. https://tinyurl.com/2p8ms7ra

What Durham has already uncovered and what was laid out in this trial was a conspiracy that went well beyond anything we knew before he started investigating. Nobody had ever even heard of Rodney Joffe or his involvement with creating the Alfa Bank hoax and likely the Russia hacking the DNC hoax. He and all his team at Georgia Tech have been exposed and will not be doing government contracts again, at least not without everyone watching their every move.

And there remains the very real possibility of more charges including conspiracy charges which what Kash Patel, a former federal prosecutor, and Devin Nunes think is likely. And those case don't have to be heard in DC. We may never get the outcome we want but the hoax has been exposed and many more people will now see what we saw. Sending them to prison is one thing, exposing them for the lying dirtbags they are is also a big deal.

554 Twenty years after Nixon's own party had held him accountable for his crimes, Senate Republicans, feminists and his own party all acquitted Clinton for his. Not so much about being a one-party state that dictates an official narrative, punishes dissent, seeks total control of its citizenry and constantly surveils its citizens for compliance.

Because to distinguish us from China at this point, most have to look for the extreme examples of physical mistreatment. Because at this point there is less and less to distinguish China and us in terms of our relationship to government.

Not in any court. That's one of the delusions that frustrate me the most about The Modern Right. This notion that, regardless of how widespread or deep the corruption has spread, it'll somehow be corrected by a simple swing of a judge's gavel.

That's simply not how groups of humans work. That's not how society works, and it's never, ever worked that way. Courtrooms do not function in a vacuum, independent of the sway of public opinion or prevailing culture.

Bro, you're having the same problem I've had with all of this. Everything you say makes perfect sense and is correct, ASSUMING the "system" works at the end of the day.

The day is over, my friend. The system didn't work and provably doesn't work. It's not going to work. The remaining people we assume Durham COULD charge are MORE protected than (Lol) Sussman and Kling.

Right now, Durham is sitting on his pile of evidence, and he has open investigations into persons X, Y and X. Assuming the system was working, Durham would bring more indictments and get funded and do it all over the objections of poltiicaly appointees within the DOJ, because he's "independent special counsel."

But assumption has been now been proven incorrect. Once you drop the assumption, it's trivial to write the script of this story from here.

The system has been broken and biased for a long, long time. My hope is that by continuing to hammer away and expose the corruption more will come our way and the system can be fixed by a majority who want law and order and basic fairness instead of one party privilege. I'm going back to work now but I strongly disagree with the idea that because Durham "proved" a case against Sussman he did his job. Where to begin? How about the time frame of his investigations? Holding back on any high profile indictments until the Statute of Limitations has almost passed on most of the criminality of other potential actors? And more importantly until the Court of public opinion has moved on, basically two election cycles later?

Not simultaneously pursuing indictments against any of the facilitators, e.g. Perkins Coie and Fusion? How can DOJ knock down attorney client privilege for Cohen but not have already seized the files and computers of Perkins Coie? What about the multiple, fraudulent FISA applications, implicating Comey and company long after the initial Sussman lies? It's such delayed, small-ball that to even discuss the strength of evidence against this one, little fish is a sick joke.

I'm a simple man, always have been. Before that, I was a simple boy. Luckily, I could always read and always wanted to.

I reckon most people, if and when they ever read a history book, just assumed humanity had evolved past things like hanging their political opponents, burning masses of people alive in churches, building concentration camps, and such. I always, and this is a fact, assumed it would start all over again. Even as a kid, I just took that for granted.

Its not a special insight. Most everyone around me has always been just as ugly and mean as they could, constrained only by the limits of what they could get away with. Most people are pricks. It takes a Hell of a lot of effort to convince one's self otherwise.

682 A big moment of truth came to me when Cruz referred to Jay 6 as a violent insurrection. It was like that moment in bodysnatchers when we find out Donald Sutherland became a pod person. Game over for " our side", because there is no opposition

683 Durham probe turns out to be a nothingberder. LOL, what a surprise

684 Like if any of the jurors would vote to convict. DC is a company town. A vote to convict an infuential Clinton operator would mean instant economic and social ruin. The jurors remind me of the panel that convicted Sir Thomas More in the movie "A Man For All Seasons". Up, down, and up with guilty as charged.

And it means dick without convictions. Which they won't get with a DC jury, as this case shows.

The Great Pumpkin isn't coming, Linus. Come in from the field.

686 After hours of careful deliberation of the evidence, the totally and absolutely non-partisan DC jury in the Sussman case found Trump guilty of being Bad Orange Man and sentenced him to death by firing squad.

687 It's a rare moron that wasn't already assuming this verdict. As I've said before, I still count it as a victory because more people now realize it was a political hit job from day one and Hillary was behind it.

688 Well, well -- kangaroo courts work both ways.

Better that they ended it quickly than give us hope for justice.

689 Anyone who doesn't believe we have a two-tiered justice system needs to get their head out of their own rear end

690 140 This is why poo Tin will NOT nuke D.C. when he nukes America.
I am not too far away and would have been willing to take one for the team in a nuclear first strike.

691 When this country does break up, the left had better keep DC.
