A Rational Discussion Of Mass Shootings Must Include Their Causes, Which Are Not The Weapons Involved!

As shocking and horrible as school shootings are, the reality is that they are uncommon, in spite of the nonsense being spouted by leftist politicians and their media pets. They love to conflate shootings on or near school grounds with what people understand to be a school shooting, and that serves not any desire to minimize violence, but to further their anti-gun agenda.

What they won't address is their own failure to recognize that it is their own policies that contribute to violent crime in America. How many times have we learned after some horrible violent event that the murderer was well known to law enforcement, had exhibited clear signs of incipient violence, but had been coddled by "the system," that seems designed to protect the bad guys, all in service to some misguided desire to keep everyone out of the criminal justice system. Dropping gun charges, failing to document violent behavior, revolving door justice...all of that contributes to violent crime in America.

The Ship Has Sailed, Gun-Grabbers Just Don't Realize It Yet

In theory, in an America ravaged by plummeting church attendance and a concomitant crisis of mass despondency, this sentiment could militate in favor of greater "gun control" measures. But in America there is, of course, our cherished Second Amendment -- with its individual right to gun ownership secured in our jurisprudence by the landmark 2008 Supreme Court case District of Columbia v. Heller.
Just as important, there is also the unavoidable reality that, in the year 2022, there are now more firearms in circulation in America than there are human beings. Put simply, even if one wanted to better "control" guns, that ship has sailed at this point.

That's a good point, and the author goes on to make several concrete suggestions that would probably decrease violent crime in America.

But let us not forget that the vast majority of that violent crime occurs in the ghettos of our major cities...exactly where law enforcement is hamstrung and the gun laws already on the books are studiously ignored by leftist prosecutors hell-bent on decriminalizing most violent behavior.

And even with the insanity currently percolating through these cities, the murder rate in America is surprisingly, unexpectedly! trending down.

To be fair, I don't expect that downward trend to continue (the graph does not include the last two years), as the policies of the left have firmly taken hold in our major cities, and the indications are strong that we are entering another generation of violence similar to the 1970s and 1980s.

But the cure is simple, and it doesn't require the destruction of our God-given rights. Prosecute real gun crime (not the fake stuff that attacks the law-abiding owners) as aggressively as the Feds are pursuing the January 6th protesters, and we would see an immediate, significant drop in violent crime in America.

Make the illegal possession of a gun by a felon a stand-alone felony that has a significant minimum jail time attached to it. Never drop gun charges--they should be sacrosanct. And the elites know this...they are not that stupid!

Of course the truth is that most gun laws are intended to disarm America, not to minimize violent crime by bad guys. Otherwise how would they justify the inconvenient fact that most gun laws are designed to control purchase, possession and carry rather than the violent use of them?

I read somewhere that there were only 4 school cops and they were at the high school and elsewhere. Nor enough to go around and obviously employed to take care of internal problems only, hence none at a grade school.

My town built a new High School for that reason, and expensive maintenance on very old buildings. It was deemed impossible to impose any form of security when people could enter any number of buildings unchallenged.

Two of the dead children are his cousins. He was out to "Hurt" his family...shot his gramma because she wouldn't pay HIS phone bill, even though he had better than $5,000 which he spent on guns and ammo. He had 70 loaded magazines, some were left at the truck, some were dropped on the way into the school, he had 13 with him inside, apparently fired 117 times, killing 20 makes for a 1 in six effectiveness factor. On a brighter note...cops fired 37 times in just a few seconds, hopefully nearly all of them hit the asshole.

Happens all the time, even in red jurisdictions. Almost all 'convictions' are plea deals; last I looked, in federal court it was 95% plea deals. The system would quickly collapse if there were no plea deals.

There's lots of commentary about the past when young people had guns but didn't commit mass killings. When I was a kid, pretty much everyone I knew went to church or synagogue, the 10 Commandments were well known, and in the late 1950's when I was in elementary school, a kid read from the Book of Psalms every morning.

From that environment a significant number of people grew up with the idea that you'd burn in hell for eternity if you committed murder. In addition, the state would helpfully start you on the journey there after a fair trial.

Maybe we need to get back to that sort of belief system.

In video games, I can't play evil but almost all video games have that option where you can kill everyone. I will never do that. I can't, even though I know it's just fiction. Lots of movies and cable online service series have dark nihilistic I'd say demonic themes. I can't stand those but there are a lot of people that love it and consume it. I'm not going to say that video games and movies turn people evil. But the change we're seeing in those mediums is a good trailing indicator of how society is purposefully disabling its inner moral voice and becoming something lower.

I've been a life long video game player, but I really have mixed feelings on this PVP (player verses player) mode they put in a shit ton of games. It brings out a complete lord of the flies mentality, and the vast majority of the ones who play it are frigging toxic. I spent a shit ton of hours on line in the PVE side (player verses enemy) of the games, and you know, you just know when a majority PVP comes in. Like drugs, media effect conditioning is variable as most people can consume this sort of media without suffering effects because they have a basic moral core and some sense of avoiding evil actions based on 'entertainment'. They all are kids who were being watched and allowed to go, this last shooting 19 officers waited outside an hour (the time said here was longer) and even intimidated anguished parents who were trying to get into save their children, forcibly stopping them as they put them into this hellish nightmare. And within the hour Gov Newsome had over a dozen pieces of gun grabbing legislation for the law abiding (who need to be ready to stop stuff like this now that LEOs will not by order) ready to go and Adam Kitzinger was making similar statements.
