59 I was sitting over at the previous thread going did everyone leave town...

I kicked off a Steve Earle Spotify auto generated playlist about 6 hours ago. It has been nothing but some of our best modern American music in the last 30 years and explains why I am up in the middle of the night, again for the baziilionth time this year. Being older that shit has nothing to do with this at all

Steve Earle in case you are not familiar with his book is a deep and wide telling of America over the last 40 years. Over this last 10 years this output has been nothing but profound in terms of the music, the performances and lyrics. This output over that last decade is one of the apex moments in American art. And I get to see him twice in the Texas Hill Country for the first time in my life at the end of June. In the last quarter of my life these things mean much to me; I am running out of time to be in love with America.

71 Besides the local police failing to document issues with the now dead school shooter, were there opportunities for the school officials to raise flags, document events and issues as well?

Just like f'n Baltimore, whom I constantly rag on, in damn near every instance of an individual making fatal life choices, there were plenty of opportunities for the authorities to become involved well before the final explosion of events.

But, we don't want to ruin their lives.

72 Over 107,000 Americans, many young people, have died from the fentanyl pouting over our open border. Teen suicide and attempts are at an all time high. So is antidepressant use for that group. Democrats are advocating for baby murder right up until birth and in some cases, after birth. Our schools are being poisoned by institutional racism, anti-American propaganda and sexual perversion. We have some of the lowest graduation rates and basic proficiency in the world. Every week our cities and their suburbs experience murder of their youths that is at an all time high. Crime overall has not been this high in decades. That has almost zero to do with guns. The problems run much deeper and have existed and grown for decades.

Let me know when any of that becomes a priority, and I'll listen to an honest conversation about remedies.

98 There is a cavalcade of blame to go around in Uvalde. But that won't save anyone now. However a lessons learned review based on the facts may save people in the future. You can start with a youth who completely fell through the system, the lack of a nuclear family or any guidance to help the killer overcome his challenges, the lack of any intervention by people who knew what was going on, and most importantly the lack of any faith in God. That moves to the person who propped the door open, an SRO who was allegedly offsite for some reason and finally the police who made extraordinarily bad decisions that were an anathema to all know similar AS situations. I'll pray for every one of them, but so far the police largely are the only ones who are at least showing some reflection and taking responsibility for their actions. I also won't make excuses, but the heat and fury of battle often results in bad decisions and costs lives, which it did in this case. That's never easy to live with...

Your point is utterly fair. As a counterpoint I would suggest that these shooter have a very specific profile. Given a certain will and changing civil commitment laws we have beginning. Shooters, if they live, all end up in prison; not sure with the problem of trying to preempt letting them massacre 19 children first. We have an starting point here.

It is now time to truly speak about how to protect the schools from intruders as we do at our homes. There are a variety of ways to assist children in a time when they need help. To know if they push a button there WILL be help on the way. I, as well as, a hundred of you could come up with ways to assist children in their time of need. Something in their clothing that can be attached an detached. Something under a desk, in their shoe, in a headband, the sleeve of a shirt, etc.. Everybody wants to think their child is safe but they are not as we have yet again been shown. We don't have to make the schools ground zero and spend hundreds of millions of Ukrainian money, but we need to do SOMETHING! I just keep thinking these kids were in a war zone and nobody came to help until someone had the guts and wherewithal to help and it is truly a horrible thought.

Not a single other gun owner flunked him out of school, or didn't charge him with domestic violence or shooting people with BB guns, nor did we prop a door open after hearing someone shooting outside of the school for twelve minutes, and we also didn't stand around and wait for an hour and lie about it later.

Laws exist that would have stopped this.

YOU didn't enforce them, and now I have to pay.

209 About 240 coal plants in the United States deliver about 22% of our electricity. About71,000 wind towers produce about 9% of our electricity on a part-time, when-the-wind-blows, basis. We are adding about 3,000 wind turbines a year, in the whole country. If wind didn't have the part-time problem, those 3,000 could replace 2.5 coal plants a year. At that rate, it would take 96 years to replace them all.

It likely would. The Governor is a weak office in Texas - mostly power is in appointments and calling Legislative sessions.

So Beatoff gets in, it is because he has the same crew that is managing Biden (or a more JV/minor league version) and they get themselves appointed to all kinds of positions and spread the Leftist cancer from within their spheres of power. From the sidebar link, the number of mass school murders is like just over a dozen over three generations. Now take the number of schools in the fifty states. The point being, is that this is a black swan. In the priority scale of what a person trains for, this is along the lines of Meteor Strike and Alien Invasion.

Just like nearly all TSA screeners will never see a bomb or gun. Most police will never pull their weapon. The events are so rare its not even considered a corner case.

And in the years 51-75, not only are additional new ones required to up the total, but the replacements installed in 26-50, and the new installs in 26-50 need to be replaced as well.

Number 3 is why the fuck were the cops tasing, pepper spraying, taking down and abusing the parents as this horror went on? What about this? Butterfly effects are real things. No, yhey didn't pull the trigger. Their actions enabled him, though. Their inaction allowed the day to take place. They are responsible in more ways than one.

The cowardice on display is stunning. The time-line shows that the 911 center was getting repeated calls from inside the classroom begging for help. The Scene Commander d!cked around long enough for an off-duty Border Patrol officer getting a haircut to show-up with a borrowed shotgun and make entry with 3 other BP officers. Apparently the Border Patrol officers took action on their own initiative because nobody else was.

Yet we train constantly for them, and if unable to display proficiency in accordance with training procedures, the ship is tied to the pier, with authority to light fires in the boiler revoked until proficiency is displayed.

I in no way am attempting to take responsibility for the murders away from the shooter.

A finding of failure to follow established procedures is a separate issue, which may have contributed to the total number of deaths.

When you have the estate before you, you get some insight into the lives that took place there. Clearly this house was built to show off how successful its inhabitants were.

Intriguingly for a liberal college town, lots of Tom Clancy books, and even Rush Limbaugh's "See I told you so" was on the shelf. Tons of medical reference tomes.

Several Catholic prayer books, a copy of the Catechism, but no rosaries, crucifixes or other items, which I'm taking to mean the family kept those.

I don't begrudge them success, I just can't imagine spending my money on that much house. On the other hand, if kids/grandkids lived out of town, it was the perfect setup for them to visit over the summer.

321 Last night, we started watching the latest season of "Stranger Things".

Before the series started, the screen went black and a disclaimer came up basically saying that:

The series was filmed two years ago and the events of Uvalde hadn't happened yet. The opening scene contains the deaths of multiple children and those sensitive should not watch.

The opening scene indeed was a stark reminder of Uvalde. Not because there was shooting, but because there was lots of children's screaming, due to an unknown and unseen cause. Then there was the aftermath with lots of children, who'd been previously playing, dead and covered in blood.

The scene was more or less stolen from the opening of the Korean horror/thriller "The Witch Part One: The Subversion" that opens in a special facility, where a horrible massacre has taken place with only one survivor...a little girl who runs away.

Not that that matters but, yeah, if you're sensitive, you might want to give ST4 a pass for a while.

325 "It's called training. We train for what we hope we never have to do."

Exactly.

Yet lately I keep hearing 'that will never happen, why train for it' across all kinds of professions, not just Law Enforcement.

Training is great and all, but it eats into the revenue making side of things like writing tickets and working over druggies. Furthermore, the 911-PSAP is always lit up with DV, alarm calls and suspicious persons.

Military is totally different. Hopefully there is all kinds of time to do continual training between being at battle station.

326 So wait, we're any kids shot but didn't die? Posted by: Moron Robbi

Exactly. In a high casualty event some people typically survive provided they can get to a hospital. Those fucking cops in this case absolutely guaranteed any child that didn't die instantly laid there in unimaginable pain, bleeding out, alone while 19 motherfucking cops were just on the other side of a goddam door they could have breached but chose not to. This is staggering craven cowardice. Again 19 adults stood down while 19 children, CHILDREN, died mere feet from where they stood. And the excuse, we didn't have tactical superiority. Tell that the parents of those dead children you assholes. Everyone of these assholes deserve a fair trial; and an equally fair time in hell.

338 I've taken to shaving before the shower. For years I did it the other way, and it was fine. Two passes on cheeks and lower lip, three on the throat, and my skin feels super smooth.

Because there is no requirement to put plumbing below the frost line, that area of Texas doesn't have cellars or basements.

But yes, the taps and ability to go full commercial was definitely there.

A couple of decades ago, I bought a shaving mirror for the shower, and never looked back.

It's great. Your beard's as soft as it's gonna get, so smooth, quick, clean shave without creating an extra mess.

You exit the shower all ready to go!

Um.....could be, yes.

Then the USS Connecticut slamming into an underwater sea mount. That report is unkind to the crew as well.

And LHD-6, a total hull loss while tied to the pier.
Yes, the little asshole set the fire. But as someone who has been involved, and let countless maintenance availabilities, I could see enough shipyard safety violations to make my skin crawl.

And yes, I have stopped yard work due to safety violations before that have had me standing in front of Flag staff explaining my actions. And was vindicated.

I'm not trying to excuse these cops at all, but I've read that the main reason parents were waiting so long (late into the night) to find out if their children were okay is because they were all head shots. It was impossible to identify them due to the massive damage of a high powered rifle at close range to the head, so it's unlikely many of them would have survived even if help arrived immediately.

I disagree mightily. He could have said this is a fluid matter and we need to have solid facts before I weigh in. Until then we need to focus on the overwhelming grief that these families are enduring.

Did he do that? NOPE, he spewed bullshit and is now complaining. Fuck him. And to laser in on what is important 19 kids and 2 teachers are dead while 19 cops stood around for an hour or more.

359 If you think your local police and sheriff departments are any different then Uvalde, if you think they employ good men that will do the right thing, think again. They all need to be reformed and most importantly downsized. Besides being useless they're a huge financial burden.
