Church in Reykjavik

Baby polar bear wakes up, adorably.

Wrinkle the Baby Duck.

Ground to cloud lightning caught on video. (Unless it's fake.)

Bird Heist.

Hammertime.

In his culture, it's a sign of respect.

Back it up, back it up, back it up... that's good, right there.

Cat has precision leaping skills.

Cows enjoy being set free in a pasture.

Androids are in the uncanny valley stage of looking practically human. Why are they all female? Who knows, who can possibly speak to what uses the earliest adapters will put them to...

15 Marcus T,

When I picked apples 5.5 days a week, I weighed 180. I'm 5'6". My body just adjusts to my activity level. I've done a lot of physical work. I lose about 20 pounds and that's it. Same thing when I went Paleo. There's a lot we don't know about why some people can't lose weight and some have no problem.

16 Androids are in the uncanny valley stage of looking practically human. Why are they all female?
Posted by: Ace

1) How do you know what gender they identify as?

B) The female form is aesthetically pleasing. The male form is utilitarian.

iii) Assuming they'll have voices, a female vocal range commands more attention than a male one.

4) Boobie missiles from a male torso are just wrong.

Same reason why a female voice is default for many systems like telling you that your car door is ajar or GPS is recalculating because a woman's voice generates more positive attention as opposed to R. Lee is his best DI voice.

Are you getting it with a battery backup for the house so that it will act like a generator during power outages? I don't know the additional cost, but that's worth asking about.

A neighbor had solar installed and was excited about it until our first big storm and his lights went out and we had to explain to him how electricity worked. He said the folks who installed it never even discussed that with him. He just thought his lights would stay on all the time because solar.

I was listening to radio station recently and they were talking about replacing the buses in a big city with electric ones that could go over 100 miles before needing charging, and they only cost $350,000.

The diesel ones they replaced cost $65,000 and would go over a million miles with routine maintenance.

151 If you have Amazon Prime and want something to watch over the long weekend I highly recommend “Night Sky” which came out about a week ago.

Best way to describe it is as a Semi-Sci-Fi-Mystery Family Drama. It has a core sci-fi premise but it will appeal to people who aren’t into sci-fi with its intriguing plot and accessible characters.

It’s only woke in some casting choices, in order to check off a few standard diversity requirements, so no political lectures beating you over the head.

Sissy Spacek and JK Simmons are excellent as the main characters and the supporting actors range from great to fine.

It suffers from some iffy dialogue choices and slow pacing, like most shows these days, but it’s only eight episodes for this debut season and it doesn’t really drag. I got through it in three days and really wished there was more upon reaching the end.

If “Outer Range” disappointed you this one will make up for it. I really hope it gets some Emmy nods and a second season.

178 Electric cars aren't as green as these zealots think they are. Electric power generation isn't 100% efficient. A petroleum based generator is ~35% efficient, and natural gas one perhaps ~40%. A modern ICE is ~30% efficient. Now, large power plants provide efficiency of scale for stuff like particulate and hydrocarbon scrubbing, which is good. But this calculation does not take into account the losses in the charging system, DC-AC conversion, and electric motors themselves. So, for the most part you're just transferring one pollution problem from one place (the city) to another (the power plant located in the boonies).
Unless they think they can replace petroleum/natural-gas power plants with "green" "renewable" energy, in which case they are delusional.

There were 19 officers outside the classroom where an active shooter was killing kids, kids dying that might have been saved, and kids hiding or had covered themselves in the blood of his or her dead friends so they could play dead. And what does the motherfucker school district police chief do? Everybody into the pool, tacos and hooker are on the way?

Why? The doors to the classroom were locked, the window blinds (apparently impermeable), yielding this cum shot of excuses: "The shooter had the tactical advantage the entire time."

No. This is hot shit lying to public to cover the cops' asses for being utter cowards. 19 fucking cops with weapons were defeated by on lunatic because the door was locked and they couldn't see into the classrooms. WTF times 100 bagillion. Get a fucking chain saw, its a small town, get a fucking rock and bust in every window, and then kill the bastard. 285 Don McLean, Lee Greenwood exit NRA concert after Texas shooting https://t.co/4GznqsXvQl
Four country crooners said they would not perform at the "NRA Grand Ole Night of Freedom" on Saturday, citing the massacre in Uvalde, Texas.

Notably, Gatlin appeared to criticize the NRA in announcing his decision.

"I cannot, in good conscience, perform at the NRA convention in Houston this weekend," Gatlin said in a statement.

"While I agree with most of the positions held by the NRA, I have come to believe that, while background checks would not stop every madman with a gun, it is at the very least a step in the right direction toward trying to prevent the kind of tragedy we saw this week in Uvalde - in my beloved, weeping TEXAS.

"My prayers and thoughts go to all who are suffering, and I pray that the NRA will rethink some of its outdated and ill-thought-out positions regarding firearms in AMERICA," Gatlin added. "I'm a 2nd Amendment guy, but the 2nd Amendment should not apply to everyone. It's that simple."

Medical insurance is an absolute bitch if you are shy of Medicare coverage. I went without medical insurance for about 5 years. It was terrifying, and I do mean terrifying. Since I pulled the trigger, so to speak, I moved from Seattle to Las Cruces, NM, owned two homes, am able to get by on SS for monthly expenses plus my happy hour pub adventures which are supplemented with investment income. I have never lived better or with the complete joy of the choices that led me here. I know the future is coming, but for now I jog, I hike, and love everyday of this life I live without reservation. With or without pants. That is how I roll.

358 #357 ||TAOS, N.M., May 27 (Reuters) - Two blazes that grew into New Mexico's largest ever wildfire were both started by the U.S. Forest Service (USFS), the agency said on Friday, prompting the state's governor to demand the federal government take full responsibility for the disaster.

Forest Service investigators determined the Calf Canyon Fire was caused by a "burn pile" of branches that the agency thought was out but reignited on April 19, the Santa Fe National Forest said in a statement.

That blaze on April 22 merged with the Hermits Peak Fire, which the USFS started with a controlled burn that went out of control on April 6, the agency previously reported.||

It was. It had solid, complex characters and coherent layers of story arcs. Little arcs that would pick up here and there and finish then broad arcs over the whole series. It would have been nice if it could have continued.

370 Isn't it neat how "but" is such a powerful word?

You can talk about something for five minutes, and as soon as you say "but" you let the listener know everything you'd said was bullsh*t.

It's that simple-minded, indeed.

374 Was Tool the band that did "This is Necessary"?

That's the only connection I can make, but I liked that song a lot when a buddy played it back around 1996 or so.

Impressive music to listen to but their lyrics just don't connect with me at all. I think you need to be some designer drug hallucinating transhumanist to care.

Jupiter from Holst's The Planets is in 5/4, broadening to 5/2 in the central section. The second movement of Tchaikovsky's 6th Symphony is also in 5/4.

385 "Jupiter from Holst's The Planets is in 5/4, broadening to 5/2 in the central section."

*Riffles through the full orchestral score, which sits conveniently on a nearby shelf*

Only the first (Mars) and last (Neptune) movements of The Planets are in 5/4. Jupiter, the central movement, is mostly in 2/4, with the middle section in 3/4.

387 Another well-known tune in 5/4 is the theme to "Mission: Impossible," composed by Lalo Schifrin.

For a long time, I thought that "America" from "West Side Story" was in 5/4, until I looked at the score. The notated meter is 6/8 *and* 3/4, in the same bars.

thing to be aware of. I say to you, I certainly get irked while people consider worries that they
just don't know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and defined
out the whole thing without having side effect , people could take a signal.
Will likely be back to get more. Thanks
