Netflix Lays Off 150 "Workers"

Well I assume they're the least productive workers.

I also assume that SJWs were heavily in the mix. More on that in a bit.

Netflix on Tuesday announced it was cutting 150 jobs amid a slowdown in revenue and a decline in subscribers that has shaken the entertainment industry.
The company did not say what departments would be affected by the cuts, though most of the job losses are in the U.S.
"As we explained on earnings, our slowing revenue growth means we are also having to slow our cost growth as a company," a Netflix spokesperson said in a statement. "So sadly, we are letting around 150 employees go today, mostly U.S.-based. These changes are primarily driven by business needs rather than individual performance, which makes them especially tough as none of us want to say goodbye to such great colleagues. We're working hard to support them through this very difficult transition."
The announcement comes after Netflix reported a loss of 200,000 subscribers in the first quarter for the first time in more than a decade. The Los Gatos, Calif.-based streaming service expects to lose 2 million more subscribers this quarter. Following its earnings report, the company's stock declined 35.1% to $226.19 on April 20, its biggest one-day drop since 2004.

So why do I say that SJWs are overrepresented in the pool of laid-off workers?

Well, it's not just that Wokeness is a luxury good that always loses money and can only be supported by actual profit-making endeavors. And that when you lose money -- as Netflix is doing -- you cut back on your money-losers.

And it's not just about this memo to the entire staff Netflix just published, though that is a signal that Netflix understands that if they stay woke they'll go broke.

In the memo's section on "Artistic Expression," Netflix told its woke employees if that if they have a problem with revenue generating content like Dave Chappelle, they are cordiality invited to seek opportunities elsewhere. In so many words, of course:

Not everyone will like--or agree with--everything on our service. While every title is different, we approach them based on the same set of principles: we support the artistic expression of the creators we choose to work with; we program for a diversity of audiences and tastes; and we let viewers decide what's appropriate for them, versus having Netflix censor specific artists or voices.
As employees we support the principle that Netflix offers a diversity of stories, even if we find some titles counter to our own personal values. Depending on your role, you may need to work on titles you perceive to be harmful. If you'd find it hard to support our content breadth, Netflix may not be the best place for you.

No, the reason I think Netflix is probably going to be laying off its Woke employees is because they already had a round of layoffs - -in their blogger "fandom"/marketing property Tudum -- and they laid off "journalists" there.

Who seem like wokies to my mind.

According to multiple tweets, the layoffs came in late afternoon on Thursday, and many were reportedly blindsided by the news. Now-former writers took to Twitter after the layoffs to announce they were open for work. Several expressed feelings of having the rug pulled out from under them.

Here's another reason to suspect that Netflix will be shedding Woke Staff and woke producers in the upcoming months:

They have been spending money like a drunken maniac (not a drunken sailor, but a drunken maniac) for years to just fill their library with quantity. When they lost popular stuff like Friends and The Office, they decided to just spend literally billions on whatever.

I've heard something "Netflix executives don't say 'no.'" No matter what you pitch them -- especially if it's woke -- they just say "yes" and throw millions at you.

So they have filled their library with quantity and quantity and quantity. And this quantity is almost all Woke Shit.

And no one likes it.

And people are looking at the $16 per month they're paying to see this absolute dreck woke garbage and deciding to cancel.

So Netflix is going to be severely restricting the number of producers who have greenlight power, and they're going to start, get this, examining the projects pitched to them for actual audience interest instead of just Woke Diversity Points.

And so that means that a lot of Wokies who have just been shepherding Woke bomb after woke bomb are probably going to be invited to seek opportunities elsewhere.

Woke garbage is a luxury good. (Well, really a luxury bad.)

FIRST, remember that many companies were originally setting themselves up for survival on the situation where capitalism was going to be shit-canned in favor of socialist/corporate government grants; ie, "profit" was irrelevant, rather adherence to the narrative pushed by the elites. SECOND since we ain't gonna give up capitalism that easily, companies that went all-out #woke were finding they were getting slammed in virtually every venue and demographic. THIRD, the path to the Great Reset looks like it won't happen anytime soon, so competitors like Trump's TMTG (through acquisition company DWAC) and Daily Wire's 100 million dollar investment into non-#woke programming streaming looked like major competition...ergo FOUR: gotta return back to basics and make a goddamn profit to survive.

That's obviously true, but they're somehow separate entities now. Netflix DVD is actually DVD.com, or something, and its budget is separate from the streamer. There are a variety of reasons for their selection to be getting worse, one of which is distributors simply not pressing new copies of older titles. It's a dying business.

They do send me "just for you to celebrate this month" e mails which get shitcanned. This tells me that they are not hiring at the pace they used to and are looking to find efficiencies by not backfilling employees who leave (depending on the role). It could also mean that additional layoffs are coming as the determine where they can run leaner than they are currently...
