From The Halls Of Montezuma, To The Shores Of ONT

Today's ONT will reach back to our roots as a “smart, military blog”.

Army guys.jpg

Balls. Of. Titanium.

Have you ever heard the story of Pardo's Push?

Incredible story from Vietnam of an F-4 literally pushing another damaged F-4 out of enemy airspace.

Knowing their planes were badly damaged, both crews climbed their crippled F-4s to 30,000 feet to preserve fuel and to enable them to glide as far as possible after they ran out. The remaining aircraft in the strike force had no alternative but to continue heading back to Ubon. Pardo could see the fuel leaking from the other F-4, and he radioed to Aman: Earl, you’ve been hit badly; you’re losing fuel.

Aman answered him: We know; we’re getting ready to bail out.

Pardo and Wayne knew that if that happened, their comrades would face certain capture or death. Pardo yelled into his radio: Don’t jump! We’re going to do our damnedest to help you fly out of here!

What happened next will amaze you. Incredible men. Incredible feat. Of course, they were only following in the footsteps of their fathers, who fought the big one over Germany

Superbomber!

Piggyback Flight

As reported by the Pittsburgh Tribune, Rojohn was piloting a B-17 Flying Fortress in the New Year’s Eve attack on a synthetic oil factory in Hamburg when all hell broke loose. Besieged by heavy anti-aircraft flak near the target and wave after wave of strafing by German fighters, 12 of 37 planes were downed and 100 crewmen were killed.

Dugo explains;

‘Rojohn’s B-17 collided mid-air with a bomber below it and became hooked together in what has become known as the “Piggyback flight.” A propeller and top guns of the lower B-17 were jammed into Rojohn’s B-17 and he and his co-pilot, William Leek, were unable to free their plane.

‘Rojohn and his co-pilot landed the conjoined planes on German soil near Wilhemshaven. Rojohn’s plane slid free upon impact, and the lower plane exploded and burned. Rojohn would undergo two weeks of interrogation by the Germans. They thought Rojohn was piloting a new eight-engine warplane the Allies had developed rather than it being the accidental joining of two planes in mid-air! The Germans thought it was a Superplane!’

Of course, it's not only in the USAF or USAAF that you can find tales of amazing derring-do. This happened this week in Florida.

Just A Walk In The Park, Kazansky

Passenger with no flight experience land(s) plane in Florida after pilot passed out

Pilot on a Cessna passes out, and a passenger is talked through landing the plane, which he safely does. There's film of the landing at the link, and I've seen professional pilots do a far worse job. To add a bit more pathos to the story, the guy who wound up landing the plane was on his way to Florida to meet his pregnant wife. You never know how you're going to react to a stressful situation until it happens, in this case the guy stepped up to the plate and coolly hit it out of the park.

(The section title is, of course, a quote from Top Gun. The new one is coming out in two weeks, anyone planning on seeing it?)

And Then There's This Guy

I'm not a pilot, but don't they teach you not to retract your gear when taxiing? OTOH, maybe they figured that it didn't need to be said. I mean, I don't think I'd need to be told that.

A Smart Military Blog

Watch This Russian T-72 Tank Turret Get Absolutely Catapulted Into The Sky

This is from Ukraine. 12 tons of steel launched dozens of yards into the sky. What's interesting is that this happened well behind the front lines, leading to speculation that the tank was attacked by a loitering munition. Loitering munitions are basically drones, like the US made Switchblade or Phoenix Ghost systems, that have anti-armor capabilities. Which kind of begs the question: is the era of armor over? You can build a hell of a lot of drones for the price of one tank. I wonder if the tank-mounted anti-missile system the Israelis use would be an effective defense against these drones? Probably, but what about when these drones start mounting lasers? You know it's in testing somewhere. What then?

The Internet War

If Vietnam was the first “television war”, the Ukraine might be the first “internet war”, in a way that our forays in the sandbox weren't. What do I mean? Well, here's a thread, posted on Twitter(!), from a guy claiming to be a Ukrainian EOD expert, detailing a mission he undertook to destroy a Soviet Russian bridgehead:

Is it true? I have no idea. In what may be peak 2022, the guy ends his story with a request for funds and lists his PayPal account! Unreal.

The Spoils Of War

Russians plunder $5M farm vehicles from Ukraine -- to find they've been remotely disabled

Some of the machinery was taken to a nearby village, but some of it embarked on a long overland journey to Chechnya more than 700 miles away. The sophistication of the machinery, which are equipped with GPS, meant that its travel could be tracked. It was last tracked to the village of Zakhan Yurt in Chechnya.

The equipment ferried to Chechnya, which included combine harvesters -- can also be controlled remotely. "When the invaders drove the stolen harvesters to Chechnya, they realized that they could not even turn them on, because the harvesters were locked remotely," the contact said.
The equipment now appears to be languishing at a farm near Grozny. But the contact said that "it seems that the hijackers have found consultants in Russia who are trying to bypass the protection."

Now go look at all of the nice, shiny, new computer controlled options on your car and ponder the implications of the above story. Want to try and convince me that there isn't a scenario whereby the government disables the cars of those that it deems “deplorable”? I'm listening.

Technical Thread

This one's pretty far out of my league. Cannon cockers, does what he's saying make sense to you? If so, what do you think the implications are?

Mitt Crenshaw

Russia has proven in Ukraine that militarily they're a Quaker Cannon. They may wind up winning, but they have no chance of threatening Europe, and frankly I'd bet on Poland if they tried. They have a declining population and a weak economy dependent on fossil fuels staying expensive. They aren't much of a threat to us. Now do China, or do your buddies in the WEF not want that?

Fighting Karens, From The Sky

I would love to know what's going on here. They appear to be dropping a stick of women out of the plane, and not quickly either. I hope they have a big DZ. I was amused to note that one gal was wearing a mask as she jumped, until I realized that COVID is an airborne virus, and then it made sense. One wag suggested that it was the 11th Airborne (probably a veteran of the 82nd or 101st), but did you know the 11th is back? Last week they announced that they were redesignating U.S. Army Alaska as the 11th Airborne Division. The ONT salutes the new Arctic Angels.

Tonight's ONT has been brought to you by souvenirs you shouldn't bring home:

Of course, things quickly went downhill as sysadmins around the world had to reconfigure their servers to handle the load on IRC. After a while, you couldn't read the live reports for all the "server x.y.z is going down to add capacity" messages.

48 I would imagine that that stick of paratroopettes got what, maybe about five hours or so of ground training before their Big Jump? There *was* some training, as they (mostly) correctly hugged their chest pack one step before exiting (helps reduce initial flailing before the static line pulls). I'll also assume they got some rudimentary "impact/roll" workouts.

But I'd love to know the purpose of that jump. Training, or some kind of actual deployment/insertion? Fascinating.

when combined with advances in drone tech since Clancy wrote, I think the answer is definitively yes. It reminds me of when personal armor became obsolete due to longbows and heavy crossbows, and later muskets.

The turret popping up like that is due to a serious design flaw in Russian tanks, especially the T-72, known as the "jack in the box flaw". Rather then storing ammo in a separate armored compartment, Russian tanks are designed for rapid loading with all of the tanks ammo carried in a circular autoloader located underneath the turret, and the crew. If an anti-tank weapon strikes at the base of the turret, it can set off all of the tanks ammo in one big blast, and POP goes the weasel.

I was an intel guy but was detailed artillery. FO'd a lot of rounds in Germany and did my S-2 time with artillery units. Was the G 2 for VII Corps Artillery in Desert Storm where my guys did all the deep attack targeting.
The information seems valid.
There isnt much reference to SIGINT which I suspect the Ukrainians are using. I suspect the UA is finding the Russians aren't ten feet tall and that they are vulnerable to artillery and counterfire.
Like the author I doubt the russians hacked much of the arty fire computer systems.
Good read though.
And my VII Corps targeteers were putting steel out well within the 15 minute viet nam times.

Posted by: AmericanKestrel at May 12, 2022 10:35 PM (IDhUW)

82 The turret popping up like that is due to a serious design flaw in Russian tanks, especially the T-72, known as the "jack in the box flaw".

Posted by: Tom Servo at May 12, 2022 10:29 PM (r46W7)

You know, maybe the Russians might think, "Hey! Let's store the ammo down in the cellar, and have Alexei pass the rounds up one at a time, as we use them. Sure, it will slow down our rate of fire a bunch, but we won't all die if an enemy round hits the turret base."

89 Schwarzkopf very nicely fought Gulf War 1 on Tuesdays. I was working for Walden books at the time, and I had Tuesdays off. The Tuesday we started "shock and awe", I could barely hear myself think the traffic in and out of Offutt AFB was so loud. The day Schwarzkopf started the land invasion, same thing -- Offutt was going insane.

A lady working as a part time clerk for Walden's, her husband was a Colonel in charge of a wing. He and his planes were parked in Kuwait the whole time. A reservist who happened to be a plastic surgeon was stationed at the same base. After a few weeks, she started worrying about losing her skills so she started sidling up to air crews wanting to know if they wanted eye lifts. My colleague threw an absolute fit when he came home looking twenty years younger than her.

Might be, but I'd wager that well over 80% of such aircraft are "both", concurrently. There are some very high performance, fixed gear singles though. Cirrus, etc. Go fasties in the +200mph category, many fully IFR equipped.

But, the majority will be Bonanza, Mooney and the like, covering both the performance and complexity in a single airframe.

98 Pardo's Push is an amazing story.

There's also a story of a -135 (tanker) crew going into Indian country and latching onto an F-111 that had been damaged such that fuel was flowing out of it, not just leaking. They were able to lock the boom into the refueling receptacle and kept pumping gas into it. The tanker towed the 'Vark to safety in Thailand, unlocked the boom and the fighter was able to glide to its base.

There are some fascinating ways to do back azimuths on an artillery round. The angle of the round in the hole it digs. If you are lucky you can get part of the fuze to determine the caliber of the artillery. You can also do some simple measurements on the shrapnel "spray" to get a pretty accurate direction to the shooter.
Downside, by the time you get all that, the gun may move. Or...while you're out there measuring, it can shoot again.

154 I for one do not believe the time of the tank is over. The most effective army is the one that fights as a combined arms team. That is infantry, armor, artillery, engineers and aviation fighting together, each taking out their respective part of the enemy. Supported by good communications, air defense, and battlefield intelligence.
Infantry and artillery clean out the antitank systems, armor provides maneuver and firepower and shock. Aviation strikes deep, protects our troops, and stops enemy movement. (Army and Air Force)
Communication allows for coordination and rapid changes to developing situations. I tel tells commanders where the enemy is and what they are doing.
Last comment...superior training and leadership can make up for a lot of shortfalls n any of these.

161 A democrat would never say this against another democrat.

Democrats don’t have to. They have the press behind them to cover up problems with their past. Republicans need to learn that they do not have a pass from the press and either get in front of it or don’t do stupid to begin with.

Hoping that it won’t come up if other Republicans just shut up about it is a losing strategy.

172 All the world's a scam,
And all the politicians merely grifters;
They have their exits and their entrances;
And one politico in his time plays many parts,
His acts being several ages. At first the reformer,
Griping and tweeting about the establishment;
And then the whining Patriot, with his flag
And lying, whoring face, slimy like a snail
Willingly to graft. And then the giver,
Spending like a furnace, with a woeful ballot
Made to his grifters' eyebrow.

analyses I've seen appear to agree that the original flaw in the Russian's plan of attack is that they never have been able to establish air superiority; the Russians had said they were modernizing their air forces in recent years, but apparently it was all for show and they never really achieved an American style air superiority force. With no air superiority, drones are free to roam and provide targeting information, as well as strike on their own.

200 Wikipedia says plastic army men were first created in 1938, but really took off when toy soldiers made out of lead were banned in 1942. Doesn't say whether that was because of safety or the need for lead as war materiel. I'm betting the latter. That would have been way too early for the "helicopter parent" movement to be a thing.

After WWII, the molds were modified to replace the WWI-style helmets with WWII "piss pot" style helmets.

All the ones I ever had were green, but a buddy of mine had a set of green ones and a set of gray ones. The gray ones were always the Germans when we played.

So, any way, idk, but real MAGA people are shouting down liberal OZ, and some are saying "we must let Trump run the whole show". I think not ... but maintaining the "MAGA momentum is important" I guess. As long as it is MAGA, not "whatever Trump wants".

240 Russia has always been our enemy.
Russia said the will bury us.
They have not take that back.

False.
Great Britain and more generally illegitimate authority is our foundational enemy. The former we've found common ground with after we taught them what's what.

One leader of the Soviet Union, which no longer exists, said they would bury us. The USSR was not our enemy because their central territory was Russia. They were our enemy because they were authoritarians with global aspirations. That is not true of today's Russia.

It is true of DC and its supporters.

I know a guy who was helping the Russians pack up and leave East Germany. The Russian tankers offered them a ride in a tank, and it took a hunt among the tanks at the Russian base to find one that would start.
Then they got a pilot who wanted to give them a ride in a Hind chopper, and after a while of following him around looking into choppers and saying, "Nope I'm not taking this one" they just gave him some cigarettes and said thanks.
The Russians then were bloodthirsty because they had nothing to but bluff at the end. And it is impossible to think that NATO didn't know this.

The murderous, demonic psychopaths in NY, IL, CA, and a few other really insane states will go full BabyMurderInc the way the Senate tried to do with their bill yesterday.

But a lot of other states will ban it outright and most will put reasonable restrictions on it. And so the murder industry will be tamped down a lot, with more people deciding not to kill their kids, and the ones who still do will wind up gravitating to the more insane places permanently. Getting them away from people who are sane.

Absent WWII, I think the USSR would have collapsed by the late 50s. The war removed an entire generation of young men who would have been unhappy under communism, and prone to revolts. It also gave the Soviets a lot of cultural and political capital, and left an entire generation of survivors to broken to resist very well.

Invading Archangel and Vladivostok during the Russian Civil War (post WWI), taking the side of the Whites, did not endear us to the Soviets; in fact, it kind of made them our enemy. Plus, Stalin was extremely paranoid and those invasions fed his, and leaders after him, paranoia about the West. On top of that was the whole communism 'global conquering' issue.

As I see it, Ukraine has, unlike Russia, very much meddled in at least 2 presidential elections, did what they could to assist in impeaching Trump, and have pretty much made a complete mess of things internally by alienating almost half their own country. The only thing that surprises me is Russia waiting this long to say enough is enough.

Berserker, band Q for you. I asked yesterday but no one waded in:

How is this normally done as it relates to songwriting credit - one bandmember is the primary songwriter but all other members contribute to changes and improvements until it is a monster hit.

Are the others SOL?

Posted by: Tonypete at May 12, 2022 09:36 PM (ifHdv)

Depends on the band. You could have a tight knit group who have members that all give it their all, and usually they all get credit. You get bands where maybe you get 1 or 2 dudes coming up with ideas most of the time, with the others contributing ideas occasionally. You could also have a band with a full blown asshole narcissist that crowds out other ideas and then carries on like he's the band, but isn't actually in control of the band. Some bands just share credit no matter who does what. Some are more fine tuned where credit only goes where credit is due. Some are actual frigging dictatorships where one dude calls all the shots and the rest of the dudes are just hired guns. It is a total clusterfuck of a mixed bag.

In college, during one of our dorm room bullshit sessions, one guy said something then that sticks with me to this day, almost 50 years later. He said he supported the death penalty but was against abortion. His reasoning was the person on death row had lived a life and fucked up while the baby had not even had a chance at life but was still condemned to death.

Today, I'd be willing to bet that a majority who are pro-abortion are anti-death penalty.

It's doable, but you have to be on very good terms with whoever is sitting in the middle. You shouldn't need to be touching anything when you get to fourth gear, but it's uncomfortably close and you do have to keep your shifting arm at a funny angle to avoid contact.

378 As regards music credits and copyrights, you will find people and corporations who had absolutely nothing to do with the creative process, but they are on the credits for compensation. This has been going on for at least a hundred years.

Irving Mills was Duke's manager. He played no instrument. He wasn't even good looking.

389 Well, I put plate and insurance on the little 98 Dodge Dakota today, and drove it to town and back. The 4-banger engine has adequate power; a little harsh at low RPMs but fine at cruising speed. Shifter works fine. Surprisingly good ride for a little truck, very car-like, in fact. Maybe because of the long wheelbase, 132 inches. Steers and stops fine, but the brake pedal is low. Probably needs new pads and shoes; I will deal with this. Interior is kind of cramped, but then I am used to Suburbans. But my Studebaker Lark feels roomier inside. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon

Oh, the leader of Creedence Clearwater Revival. I ain't as musically inclined as most of you, but I do remember a story that the other band members wanted some of their songs on a record too. JF didn't want that, but he let them have one of the CCR albums. It tanked and he said told you so. Also, when inducted into HOF he wouldn't play with the original band members. He had new backers and the others played without him later.

That is not from her site, but an interview she does say she was adjunct prof (not sure that means much, except she taught I guess) ... for seven years?

Seems feasible, but they are mocking her like it was made up ... I have no idea, except as with the military thing, hard to believe she would just make that up. But why would Trump not just lay out details if he had such facts?

Fogerty's CCW period songs are now over 50 years old and are still played daily and will be play 50 or more years from now. They are some of the greatest songs written in the 20th century and go toe to toe with very best of that output. In a new direction, Chuck Berry will be remembered 300 years from now for being the defining composter and musician the post WII period of music. Fogerty's songs get to that same place, that is saying a lot.

432 But from I've read, John Fogerty is a major league asshole and dick.

He probably is. I saw him in concert at Merriweather Post Pavilion in about 1985. He was big on "My music, no CCR" in the press. Then, halfway through the concert, the band played the opening bars to Midnight Special. The crowd went NUTS....and they then segued into one of his songs, which one I couldn't tell you. I don't remember any other than Centerfield. It was a massive "fuck you" to the fans that supported him. Still listen to CCR, but have had no interest in Fogerty since.

Posted by: Weirddave at May 13, 2022 02:09 AM (GpUUo)

433 Fogerty was writing some of best music at that time and he knew it. He was also basically backed by a bar band, a good bar band, a really good one, but a bar band. His level of perfection took that band to place could never have reached without him. He was a tough leader, sometimes it is necessary. Look at what was achieved. Fogerty relented on a late album where everyone got a participation trophy. Not one track from it gets played today, it is forgotten as it should be.

I had a drummer friend who got a gig with a jazz guitarist and singer, just the two of them. My friend was a good musician, but he couldn't play at the level the guitar player wanted and he rode my friend's ass into the ground. My friend toughed it out he became a pro. Sometimes that is how it works. Same for CCR.

You don't have to be a shy wallflower, doormat type to not be an asshole. And you can be quite humble even will supreme self-confidence. Richard Feynman is an example. He was very smart and told you so, smart enough to know how dumb he was.

Johnny Cash was also quite humble. Nicest guy you ever met. Yet he realized how good he was. Travis Tritt told a story during an interview about meeting and talking with him. Talked about how personable and well-mannered he was.

Tritt asked him, man, when you come in a room, everyone notices. The conversation stops. How do you do it? . Cash did the "aww shucks" thing, but Tritt presses, I'm serious, how do you do that?

He said Johnny got real serious, and said, "Mystique". The public doesn't need to know everything about you. You maintain some magic, some mystery. Don't bear your soul.

On American IV he did exactly that. That was his last will and testament to the world. The profundity and humanity in those performances still stop me cold when I listen to them. One time on a BDay camping trip with a pack of 8 year old boys in the van someone out of the blue put AIV on. Those kids shut up and just sat there like stunned ducks for the entire album. As soon as it was over they went right back to the scheduled chaos. That means something.

That's stupid. It's not about promoting yourself, or recognizing your talents, you can do all those things, but ultimately it's about how you treat other people. The Fogerty story I posted above is a good example. He's a talented musician, who created songs that millions of people loved, and when they all paid $50 each to come see him he decided to scream "fuck you!" in their face. That's ego. I think that humbleness was the secret to his interviewing success as it wasn't about himself. The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson was simply the best late night entertainment I can ever remember. Staying up for his monologue was truly a thing as he called balls and strikes, showing no favorite side of the political aisle.

The stories of comedians to whom he gave a spot on his show are also illuminating as to who Johnny Carson really was. He was a success but he had no problem spreading the chance for success around.

456 Johnny Cash was a humble man. He was nice to other people. He treated people who couldn't do anything for him just the same as those who could. Posted by: publius, Rascally Rapscallion

Cash in his early years was a bit of a lout and something of a drug addict for extra points. My take is June gave him a reason to change and he did. His love of her, his family, faith, and earning some wisdom along the way seems to have humbled him. Those American albums after June passed on, especially IV are the meditations of a humble man.

Another great: Jack Benny. My God, again no comparison. Jack Benny probably had the best timing to date of any comedian.

Johnny Cash used to go on the Billy Graham crusades (that's a dirty word now), and would give his testimony. Watch that if you ever get a chance.

He tells how he hit rock bottom and was going to die. The Devil had him, but he was redeemed.

459 Notes about post

the turret no way weighs 12t. Maybe 2.

The gear up video is fake audio on a real incident where gear malfunctioned and some wag made a funny.

Armor has been dead for intended purpose since it was invented. It only works against adversaries with smaller guns, and then shaped charge RPG came along and then it was resurrected with reactive armor, but tbh the whole idea has been circling the drain for a while. The loiter is to give the poor bastards time to get JAGoffs in the loop while you wait for them to finish their coffee and read to ROE for approval. So not what made a difference. The big deal was fire and forget which has been around a while and well, you wouldn't get me in one of those boxes. There is a higher turret toss vid out there.

Thinking about the 'On The Road' stars, Hope and Crosby. Hope was funny and seemed, from a distance of course, like a nice guy who gave of himself for others, especially those USO tours. (And your comment about pissing out more funny in the morning applies to Hope as well.) Crosby had a reputation for being an asshole, a talented asshole, but an asshole nonetheless.

Watching some Hope routines and him making fun of Democrats lets you know plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose. (Can't do any of the diacriticals in that line.)

Watch the Jack Benny show, and you'll see Bob Hope, George Burns, Carson, and some of the other greats doing guest appearances. They'd sort of appear on each other's shows all the time.

Jack Benny's main schtick was three things. Jack is a tightwad. Jack is old, like really old. Jack plays the violin, really badly.

When Hope would come on, they would usually have a bit where Bob was was insanely rich and vain. One I remember, Jack and Bob are gonna do a show and Jack has to go to Bob's house to rehearse. The house is so big, they have to ride around in golf carts. And then they find out Bob has an indoor 18-hole golf course in his house.

465 From Dailywire: During her weekly press briefing, Pelosi touted a Democrat-backed bill called the "Consumer Fuel Price Gouging Prevention Act," which would allow the president to declare an "energy emergency" giving him the ability to regulate prices by preventing fuel companies from selling their products at prices deemed to be "unconscionably excessive" and "exploiting" such an emergency.

Not content with artificially driving energy prices to the point that the US economy could fail, Pelosi wants to give FJB the power to instantly create untenable shortages. Geezh, it is almost like there is a plan be executed.

Yep. Drive up energy prices due to progressive policies, then prevent energy companies from making any money due to the increased costs to do business. At that point, we are only steps away from nationalizing another segment of the economy (like they already did with healthcare).

Jack Benny died Dec. 26th, 1974. Pancreatic cancer, turned out. He was 80.

At his funeral, George Burns was supposed to give the main eulogy, but broke down a little bit into and couldn't continue. Bob Hope then took over and gave the main eulogy.

He said, "For the undisputed master of comedic timing, this one time his timing was all wrong -- he left us much too soon."

Oh, and Jack actually could play the violin very well. It takes talent to play an instrument poorly and be funny. Same with singing badly. You've got to be good to be funny bad. Otherwise, it ain't too funny, just awful.

472 During the 20th Century the American culture produced an endless number of excellent comedians. I sometimes think about why this happened. Was it lucky hot streak of history or something else? The reason seems to be rooted in the vaudeville theater where these artists honed their craft by working at it constantly for years and then later being able to show case their razor sharp skills to a mass audience via the films and later TV. This same pattern is seen in music where the greats played lived sets constantly. My sense is talent is rare but not that rare. What is rare is exceptional talent that works at their art like they are going to die tomorrow for years and years. No point to all this, just musing triggered by the comments here tonight.

Every one of those bands played in clubs constantly and had exceptional role models: American Blues and Rock and Roll. From what I have read the Beatles were a so-so band when the went to Hamburg. There they played something like 8 hours a day for the year or two they were there. When they came back to England they were dead solid musicians, performers, song writers, and as a band, deadly great.

481 >> rooted in the vaudeville

Jack Benny got his start there, of course. His biography is interesting. He was born Benjamin Kubelsky. The name Jack Benny sort of evolved over time.

He joined the Navy in WW I and entertained his fellow sailors with the violin. One time, they didn't like it and started booing him. He started ad-libbing comedy in, and it was a hit. That was probably the start of his "bad violin" schtick.

He was indeed the "undisputed master" of comedic timing. Watch him, and you'll see it. His pauses and punchlines were right on the money.

Audiences were so familiar with his character that he didn't even need to elaborate much, or set it up. He could just do something like alluded to his comedic character, and everyone would die laughing.

Back in the early '80s, I saw Mickey Rooney and Ann Miller on Broadway in 'Sugar Babies'. It was vaudevillian, and quite hilarious.

The ad libs in that show were hysterical. This one scene, Rooney is sitting at a desk in a little boy's uniform, shorts, sailor top, you get it. He's wearing a wig. Somehow, the wig gets knocked off and Rooney turns to the audience and says, "You ever have one of those nights?" Funny as all get out.

497 riffing more on the talent and work. A number of the great film noirs were written by people that had been reporters for years before writing scripts. My sense is that writing for newspapers taught them to write lean stories that had hooks and exposed them to the nuances of compromised humanity, and prepared them for Hollwood. Talent is an always welcome trait but it is the constant working at something that transforms it into something remarkable.

He did that to prove his bona fides as a staunch gun guy but instead it showed him to be about as honest as Sen. War Bonnet when she pulled a beer out the refrigerator. I never spent much time paying attention to him but his liberal leanings still penetrated my awareness. There is an instinctive reason I see him as just another rino who when he gets to DC will immediately fall in line with the crowd that is in government to perpetuate power for themselves while doing exactly nothing that makes a difference.

510 Comparing the Dickless Oprah to President Trump. DO went shopping for a race where he felt he had a shot and then shed his Democrat skin for a shiny new Conservative one. I can't imagine there is any real depth or commitment to the principles championed by PT. What he does have is a polished delivery from years on TV that can make him seem thoughtful and sincere.

PT on the other hand went after the Presidency because he had a honed agenda, the balls and experience to play hard ball, the necessary ego to pull this off, and most importantly a work ethic like nobody else in DC. And not for one second did he stop being who he is or stop going balls to wall for what he believed. This messianic commitment goes a long way to explaining why the entire Marxist Uniparty lost their shit: they knew they met a force of nature.

532 Lost In Space,

I'm watching a video clip of her talking about her support of BLM and how she believes that systemic racism is a serious issue.
Plus, as a vet myself, her documents of her military service is questionable. Though she has stated she has served for ten years, the documents she has provided state less than eight years.
And no Army vet refers to the various reserves as "Armed Forces Reserves" (there's Navy and Army Reserves) or "Officer Candidacy School" (hint: it's Candidate, not Candidacy), not to mention her inability to remember when she attended, much less if she graduated (though she has claimed that she was "accepted" to OCS.
