LOL: New York's Corrupt Grand Jury Probe Into Trump's Businesses Set to End... With No Indictments and No Negative Findings

Trump has surprised me in both upside and downside ways.

On the downside, I am very surprised he didn't turn out to have more animal cunning about reading people's motives. I'm surprised he did not fulfill his campaign promise about firing a lot of people.

On the upside, I'm really surprised he's turned out to be so clean, business-wise. This guy is in property development and casinos. You'd think that even an upstanding guy in these businesses would have to have at least some history of working with "New Jersey Garbage Collection Entrepreneurs" and the occasional bribe of an official regarding a zoning matter.

But... apparently not.

And this guy has been endlessly probed. The most corrupt stuff was the stuff we knew from early on-- he had a relationship with David Pecker of the National Inquirer and, supposedly, worked with him to pay off those making allegations and then bury the stories.

And that's not remotely illegal. And that literally happens eight billion times a day. There's an entire profession -- the "fixer" -- that does does this for politicians. It's tolerated. And Democrat fixers routinely get high-paying gigs at media companies. It's even a respected occupation!

The Clintons used to threaten women to keep them from making allegations. Trump, it is alleged, just paid them for the exclusive rights to their stories through a third party, then buried them.

And that's it.

And so, the most investigated man in America is set to walk away from another grand jury with no charges brought against him.

A six-month grand jury convened to hear evidence in the investigation into the business dealings of former President Donald Trump has reportedly ended, and no charges are expected to be filed as the investigation appears to be waning.

Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg recently ceased sending evidence to jurors. Bragg inherited the investigation from his predecessor, Cyrus Vance.

Vance began the investigation following allegations Trump's business lied about the value of its properties. It was alleged the Trump Organization did so for the purposes of leveraging tax breaks and receiving preferential loan treatment.

Already this smells like perfect bullshit. You don't know, as a fact, the value of your property. Your property is worth what you can sell it for, and you don't know what you can sell it for until you put it on the market and solicit bids. (Even then, you might just put it on the market at the wrong time and get a poor evaluation of its real value.)

So they're claiming that when he estimated the value of his properties, he overestimated them.

So they're trying to find evidence to charge him with Guessing Too Optimistically.

Shayna Jacobs, Josh Dawsey and Jonathan O'Connell with the Post reported:

A six-month grand jury that was convened late last year to hear evidence against Donald Trump was set to expire this week, closing a chapter in a lengthy criminal investigation that appears to be fizzling out without charges against the former president, people familiar with matter said.

Meanwhile, the New York Times also reported it appears unlikely Trump will ever be indicted in Manhattan, although Bragg had previously said he would officially announce when the investigation is over.

As of Friday evening, a "war room" where prosecutors had organized their investigation into Trump had been vacated. The Times reported:

Some people close to the inquiry believe that it will not result in an indictment of the former president unless a witness cooperates unexpectedly -- a long shot in an investigation that has been running for more than three years.

The Times added impaneling another grand jury is unlikely, as doing so could make the district attorney's office appear as though it is seeking to find "a more favorable group of jurors."

The line pushed by the left -- and by "The left," I include NeverTrumpers, who are now firmly on the left -- will be, "Yeah, he just consulted with his lawyers to play things as close to the line as possible without actually breaking the law."

Right.

Which is why people consult lawyers, idiots. No one needs to consult a tax attorney to figure out how to overpay one's taxes by 20%.

That was their line with Mueller, right? "Trump consulted his lawyers to figure out how he could be as nonresponsive as possible (to this corrupt, pretextually-started political witchhunt) without violating the law!"

Oh really? Is that how someone being investigated for phantom crimes behaved? He spoke to his lawyers about how he could be the least helpful?

Well color me shocked!

78 This is the reason to support Trump 2024. There may be more sophisticated men: there may even be more effective ones, although Trump had an even harder row to hoe than Reagan did. 140 I have explained the property valuation thing this way a few times. Trump is accused of telling the bank that a building was worth $X for a loan. And telling the state it was worth $Y for tax assessment.

This happens probably every single day. The country assessor has a value for my house. My bank has a completely different valuation. They loaned me the money to buy it based on that, not on the county's valuation.

I imagine that multi-million dollar property owners negotiate these things all the time. Hey, yeah, this building was built in 1940 but I have upgraded all the infrastructure in here to current standards, you might tell the bank. Or the tax assessor might say hey this building is worth this much, here's your bill. And the property owner might say look this building was built in 1940!

Not. A. Crime.

What Trump did with Pecker used to be considered the ugly side of reportage. Buy *and* bury. Every outlet did it, but everyone had their preferred outlets, some wouldn't bury it in time, and there was always a lot of push-and-pull in the game.

The relationship with the Enquirer is a little ugly, but c'mon - it's a minor peccadillo, these days. It's a thing that happened because a personal relationship (and some cash) was at play.

It's not as if, say, an Administration official picked up a phone and every major news outlet in the country repeated his words, verbatim, in every available media organ, simultaneously, and without expecting a dime in return for the service.

That kind of thing would be scandalous.

179 From the moment President Trump came down the elevator he has been under constant political attacks, a special prosecution, two impeachment inquisitions, knowingly false media stories, falsely obtained FISA warrants, a coordinated campaign Russia disinformation between the Clinton Campaign, the Democrat party, Clinton operatives, the DOJ, the FBI, various intelligence agencies, and most likely the Obama White House. And that is just for starters. Then there is the endless sniffing around his taxes and businesses in an attempt to crucify him with a weaponized use of the law by federal and state DAs, the endless leaks whose sole purpose was to smear his reputation, and the January 6th Schiff lead inquisition whose primary goal is to bring a criminal case and conviction against the President in attempt to have him banned from running in 2024.

That one set of DAs stood down, I can't imagine this line of attack is over, more like it is in remission for now. President Trump is guilty of one thing: he is a clear and present danger to the Marxist-Facsist Unitparty plus parasites plans to force a New Green Deal utopia up our asses.

Leo Frankowski in his "A boy and his tank" Scifi series had a novel concept of property taxes. When the appraising authority assigned a value to your property you had the option to either accept that valuation or you could sell your property to the taxing authority for the appraised value and they could not refuse to buy your property.

If that were in effect here I could literally walk away from my house with $200,000 more than I paid for it 5 years ago.

231 72 The funny thing is that the prosecutors were very angry with Trump, because Trump almost never uses e-mail, so he didn't leave a paper trail.

Unlike the rest of our "elites", Trump realizes that e-mails are forever, and you should assume that every e-mail you ever write will eventually be read back to you in court while you are on the witness stand.
Posted by: The ARC of History! at May 02, 2022 03:19 PM (I2/tG)

You might not believe this, but Preet Bharara was speaking to WNYC a few weeks ago about Trump, and he said that the fact that he never uses e-mail makes him especially criminal. Why? Because Mafia crime bosses don't use email either, and they are big-time criminals. Seriously.

(Ok, you might believe this.)

And what remained of laws and the constitutional system were turned inside out to harass and hobble him and blacken his name among the vast portion of America that is too effectively stupid to think for themselves or venture beyond the cartoon world created for them by a farcical propaganda operation known as the "press".

the point also is that these tax laws were crafted to account for business scenarios so they didn't tax people out of existence. "Sure you owe 10% unless you paid for X,Y, and Z or had a loss the previous year."

(Look into your local county, city or town contracts for excess electricity contracts off pennies on the dollar... They give them to crypto miners to buy up a old building to turn them into a crypto mining facility and that's the tip of the iceberg).
I'm sure this wont make you throw things at the thought lol

Poirot is weepy and Aspie. Every other man in the movie is a love sick puppy dog. The lesbian, commie God-mother is played as a bloodthirsty hypocrite, then is suddenly supposed to be sympathetic?

At one point, she says her goddaughter will be the first against the wall in the revolution. Then at the end, she's out and proud with her "nurse," whom she's been treating like a servant the whole time.

Oh, and the big proof of the crime?

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS

Gal Gadot's fiance pretends to be shot, and uses a hankie with paint on it to sell the wound. This is his alibi, he couldn't have sprinted down the corridor and shot Gadot.
Then later he shoots himself for realsies before the doctor arrives. Poirot uses the paint on the hankie as proof. Only at that point, the hankie would have real blood too, because the man shot himself for real.

341 NATO = US, essentially (duh, and a 30+ year problem that's never been addressed), and yes the russkis are fighting the US now. It's not ATGMs and artillery that matter, it's the intel support. Without these, what has been a very unimpressive Russian performance would have had much better results/lower losses. But the same story indicates the Russians have pathetically inadequate comms security, or game, for a contemporary battlefield. Kind of shocking really.

NATO was a successful and obsolete alliance 30 years ago. The sub-mediocre performance of the Russian military (whose recent reshaping is not even structured towards offensive operations) only screams once again the question nobody addresses: why even have NATO, now?

362 The best example of this I've seen in the movies is in "Anatomy of a Murder," 1959. Lawyer Jimmy Stewart slowly prods accused murderer Ben Gazzara to decide he (Gazzara) must have been temporarily insane when he shot a bar owner. Jimmy never says temporary insanity defense until after Gazzara does.

Posted by: Gref
---------------------------
Not quite temporary insanity but an old defense called irresistible impulse. Many states never allowed this type of defense as it was due to 'psychology' of the twentieth century with dubious scientific validity. Claiming an irresistible impulse made you do it was easy to claim but more difficult for prosecution to refute. Proving or not that someone is semi permanently insane before and after an event is far easier because prosecution gets a crack at evaluating the person claiming it with their own forensic psychiatrists (you have to waive 5th Amendment to claim insanity btw). Insane in the moment can only come from the defendant or non-expert witnesses unable to give the expert testimony necessary to establish mental illness.

Only a few states allow the defense now--Texas among a few others.

364 It does suggest one of the Demoncrat rants against Trump was based in fact "He wanted to become POTUS one day from the time he was a lad"

The FNM/DNC wing spun that as something sinister of course, instead of every child thinks they might want to be POTUS one day and Trump probably always had it in mind that he might want the job one day. Thus, he made it a point to avoid gathering any skeletons in his closets.

The UN Sec Gen was there or had just scooted when the russkis hit some military industrial site with cruise missiles last week, but that was the first such attack on Kiev I'm aware of.

May well have been the first, and fairly unimpressive and long overdue, Russian retaliation for continued attacks by the Ukes in Belgorod and Kursk areas, which they had threatened in a public statement weeks ago. Even this part of the Russian operation has been lackluster and unimpressive.

No it won't, because it can't. No state censorship is "non-partisan" or "apolitical." Ours will be no different. Censorship is consistent, in all cases, regardless of country or board, with state and controlling party objectives.

The better answer, Discount Pippi, is that a state censorship board is inconsistent with the American way and with American values and with American law, and the people at DHS who put this into place have all been arrested for treason and the board has been disbanded, and you will be asking Congress to eliminate the DHS as a department.

But you won't say that, will you?

425 "In no sane world is that happening without heavy coordination between the belligerents."

No, not at all. Polish prez and others aren't visiting Izumi or Mikolaiv or Zaporozhe. Kiev is quiet. So far one own-goal missile strike on an apartment building (first days), one possible own-goal MiG-27 shootdown in town (also first days), one Russian cruise missile strike. It's not like Kiev is under frequent, or even any, bombardment. So furrin VIPs walking the streets is a nothingburger.

Indirectly, I gather the "press" in the west indeed is outdoing itself with hysteria on events in Ukraine. But VIP visits to Kiev are utterly uninteresting and unsurprising and totally consistent with the pattern of action so far. They're perfectly safe there (and they weren't going there until the Russians pulled back from Brovary and environs).

Prevailing winds are out of the south, if I'm remembering correctly. At least a quick look at the main runways at Regan & Dulles confirm that. As long as you're outside of the initial overpressure and fire storm, and you move immediately to the southwest to a bug out position, you should be mostly ok. Waiting for the dust cloud to settle locks you into a six-ish week stay in your basement for the average radiation levels to weaken enough to live through the exit. You need to move immediately to live.

458 "True, but all of Ukraine is a potential target for strikes, the fact that Russia has left Kyev relatively unscathed most likely means that Putin doesn't want to topple the government but wants capitulation and security agreements."

Yes but that's been obvious from the start. There's been no general attack on urban areas or infrastructure, only action where there is, you know, opposition, = fighting. Like Mariupol (which by the way is part of the "Russian" part of Ukraine, Donetsk oblast, i.e. part of Ukraine that was/will now be again "breakaway").

High profile visits. Zero Russian interest or benefit from hurting foreign VIPs visiting. Literally no targeting of where they are, so far, anyway. Nothing the least bit surprising or requiring explanation here. If a foreign VIP decides to do a grip/grin at a weapons depot (narrator: they won't) then there's potential for excitement when Mr Kalibr or Mr Iskander come to visit. Otherwise, meh.

May not be the same as extensive on-site training, but whatayagonnado? This way they have "sanctuaries" for military assistance (sound familiar?). What seems very belatedly, Moscow has taken direct action against some of the materiel pipeline, with cruise missile strikes on depots in western and southern Ukraine, and hits on electrical infrastructure for the rail lines east of Kiev.

Yes! They're supposed to do what we want, not what we say!

The CIA put seed money into the little research project of Segey Brin and Larry Page that became Google. And they never left.

496 Diogenes if you didn't see it, last night I suggested you check out Dunbarton Tobacco's website for details on the various Stillwell Stars, just to make sure you get something you're gonna like, for those prices.

And meanwhile, another unbelievable bit of vandalism by the totalitarians at FDA on tobacco, which actually would affect the Stillwell version I enjoyed last week.

498 I posted a link yesterday about Ashley Judd. She had her leg broken in four places when traveling overseas. (Something involving bonobo monkeys IRRC). So that may have something to do with how she looks.

Well, that didn't take long. Georgia is ramping an investigation into the 2020 election and Trump's post election challenges. Odds on the allegations are going to be that President Trump doesn't like getting screwed in the ass. Apparently, like estimating property values, estimating if Fulton County scanned lots of bogus ballots is now a crime.

502 To bolster this --

Have you heard of the Pandora Papers? Huge leak of financial info that shows where a lot of the super-rich stash their money. Reporters around the world are drawing on this storehouse.

The group that launched this has about three dozen of these people listed on its website. Most are national leaders you never heard of. Then there's Tony Blair.

Guess what big name isn't on this list?

Cry, lefties.

503 "War Zone"? Not just Pelousey and Dem squad showing up, strolling around, Angelina Joli too.
And people saving Cats/dogs, flying in from around the world to rescue strays. I just got an email from an english setter rescue group asking if I would drive a leg of a transport chain moving a rescued Ukraine dog from NYC to Minn.
