posing with his dog, "Snickers"

Now this is a service dog.

A couple of pals.

The perfect sleep mask.

Dinner dance.

Puppy's first encounter with a lime wedge.

Live with joy.

A blended family.

Nice shopkeeper brings food out to all the local strays but boy are there a lot of strays. (And well-fed strays too.)

Aw, dog cries at master's grave.

Introducing the puppy.

Dog wants to show off for the other dog.

Big smile.

This little one is going to float away.

This is like that Ninja Hiding Game in Batman Begins.

Puppy flies down the stairs.

Senior dog enjoying his 15th birthday party.

Your dog trying to tell you, Don't be the guy writing "First."

7 My ex sent me a picture of her cat (my "nephmew" Maceo), laying on his side with his front legs stretched out. I photoshopped it by adding a cup of coffee (didn't have the option of booze), a pipe, glasses, and a pair of dice that it looked like he'd thrown. It's pretty funny.

8 I knew Jeopardy was an Op when they rooked James out of dethroning Ken Jennings, it's now incontrovertible.

Deep down the left is upset that Amy Schneider, a man, is the top winning "female," in Jeopardy's history, so now they are going to rig it so Matea, a Crunchy Granola, Canadian, Lesbian beats Amy's record.

It's all too clear now.

51 Our new puppy is extremely cute, which is a good thing for him because chasing him around prying grass blades and hibiscus petals and mulch and dead leaves out of his gullet is getting old. We already trained him to go up stairs (the kids have a little staircase on a toy in the back yard) and through a tunnel (also a toddler toy). When he gets a little bigger, we might introduce jumps or slalom poles!

Yes.

If the kid has a problem, he can talk to the coach. Keep the parents out of it.

As an aside, high school sports are not the major leagues. It is okay to give a senior who has put in the time and will likely never play again preference over kids who have a full season ahead of them.

94 Jmel, were it me and my son, I'd just find the local batting cage and buy a couple hundred dollars worth of credit on a gift card, and have your son offer that to the coach for the entire team to schedule, saying: "I could use some more time in the cages, coach. Would love to have all of us have the chance."

And see what happens. Even if your son is the best hitter on the team, it shows character for him to do something like this. I would never argue with the coach or question his decisions. Unfortunately, as reasonable as it is to do so, to go that way is death to a season for a kid.

Yes, I know this is a hurtful thing, but this sounds like the best outcome is to not complain.

If the coach next year is the same, he gets "team player" points for helping an older player get his chance, win or lose. And shows magnanimous behavior, which can be a good thing is the sports world. Other players will notice your son is not all about himself, and supports the coach's decision.

High school is one of the last remaining hierarchies based on seniority. Remember that? Once upon a time age was something you owed deference to. Respecting elders or something.

I guess I'm showing my age (an older 29 than some, younger than others), but it was expected that seniors got certain allowances because they were seniors. They put in the time, and so they had earned some deference.

I don't know what could drive a 17 year old boy to write a letter to his coach, begging for something, but I'm guessing it's more important than your son missing a few games at his preferred spot.
Coaches usually know when scouts are coming, so I doubt anything drastic is going to happen to your son if he bats 8th instead 2nd, 3rd or clean-up a few times.

Posted by: banana Dream at May 03, 2022 07:38 PM (rWGyP)

I fouled the whole downstream watershed of the Wind River complex.

Late in the afternoon, we set up camp in a meadow that had numerous glacial streamlettes running through it. We neglected to take into account that the glacial run off would raise the stream levels in the area that night.

I had a Giardia attack sometime in the wee hours of the night. I stumbled out of my tent, completely disoriented, and fell into the running water that wasn't there when we turned in.

The urgency of the Giardia attack, and the very cold water caused me to lose control of all bowel function. I shit myself pretty good...lord help the people downstream. I felt really bad about it, and didn't tell the instructors...they probably would have sent me home....they were eco-nazis.

All good here, but a little bittersweet. Daughter and family sold their house in Massachusetts (closed this morning), and are stopping in NY for a while to say goodbye to family and friends-they're headed to eastern Tennessee. Her husband got a job offer matching his Mass. salary, and they're looking forward to living in a red state for a change-they both grew up here in NY, and have been living in Mass. for 8 years. I'm very happy for them, but it won't be quite so easy to visit-we used to go up and back in a day. It was wonderful having all three granddaughters here: 6, 4 and 3, so they had a blast playing together. Little brother is only 5 months old, so he wasn't participating.

*

And here's the part I don't get.

If you tested positive at any time, you had COVID. Full stop, the end. There was no debate, no discussion. If you died at any time while testing positive, be it from a murder-suicide or motorcycle wreck, you were counted as a COVID death.

And all of these people who are suddenly having serious health problems - interestingly, lots of immune disorders (VAIDS has been the name for a while) - will argue 'til the cows come home that it had nothing to do with their post-vaccine state.

Even though the permission slip that you sign pretty much states "I acknowledge that no one has the slightest idea what might happen to me with this experimental gene-modification injection." But no, it can't have anything to do with that.

362 Some chain through the wheels, with a lock on it may help. Nothing will stop a real determined thief, short of bullets, but chains and locks may deter thieves of opportunity.

**

A guy at our church had his camper stolen. Steel cable wrapped through the wheels and around the axle. The thieves hooked up and dragged it until it was grinding the lug nuts down. 1/3rd or more of the wheels on both sides were gone and there were gouges in the road for 500 yards, and the meth heads just unhooked it and left it in the middle of the road, at night, that people drive 70mph on. Everyone driving that road that night before the tow truck got there was lucky to not be dead from hitting it in a fairly blind curve.

407 It might just be something about the Southern humidity, but every Jeep (not the traditional "CJ" style, but SUV) I've had any experience with always seems like has had a tired interior before it should've happened. 7 years / 100K miles seems to really wear on Jeeps down here. I like them, but I drive stuff until 250-300K and have never really considered them because of that.

It's weird because it was that way through the Mercedes ownership and also through the Fiat ownership.
