Biden Sending Oil From Strategic Petroleum Reserve To Western Europe
21st century Western Europe is like a spoiled rich kid who has never had to dirty his hands or work for anything. It expects America to pay for its defense and fight its wars. It also expects its fossil fuel needs to come from somewhere other than Western Europe, so it outsourced its petroleum needs to Russia. Being reliant on Russia for fossil fuels is suddenly looking like a very bad decision. So Europe is going to drill baby drill, right? Nope. It’s once again looking across the Atlantic for some help from Uncle Sugar. Even though Europe has cheered the Biden administration on in its war on American oil production (in the name of climate science, of course) it now desperately needs our petroleum products. But thanks to Biden, America is no longer producing a surplus of petroleum. We don’t have excess oil to export any longer. So Biden is draining our Strategic Petroleum Reserve and sending it to Europe. Oil From U.S. Strategic Reserve Heads for Europe Amid Global Supply Crunch [Bloomberg – 4/18/2022]A cargo of crude from the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve departed a Texas port bound for Europe, a signal of increasing oil-market disarray as refiners shun Russian supplies and prices surge. The ship, chartered by an affiliate of French energy giant TotalEnergies SE, is bound for the key European port of Rotterdam.Having done so much to destroy our domestic oil industry, Biden is now draining our strategic oil reserve and shipping it to foreign countries. This is impeachable malfeasance. He is intentionally destroying our ability to fuel our national defense in a major crisis. Until Western Europe ditches its idiotic climate religion and shows that it is willing to defend itself and power itself, the US does not owe Europe one American life or one American barrel of oil. If Western European industry shuts down and its people have to shiver in darkened houses, that is the bed they have made for themselves.
On average, House Democrats and Republicans had returns at +14.7%. Meanwhile, Senate Democrats were at +15.4% and Senate Republicans just under +13%. To compare, we can take the same transaction periods and estimate $SPY returns. Using this method, SPY returns were found to be only +13.6%. This means that in 2021, on average, Congress beat the market.Some members of Congress are such investment wizards that they should be teaching the hedge fund hotshots in Connecticut how to outperform the market.
And what a surprise! Two of the top-5 stock pickers were Dan Crenshaw and Nancy Pelosi. Dan Crenshaw became a DC swamp-creature so fast that I almost admire his sheer audacity. He quickly made it clear that his constituency is federal employees in Washington, not the Texans who elected him, and that his purpose in going to DC was to get rich. I’ve known several individuals who attempted to make money by day-trading or playing with options. Some took a beating, others lost an amount that they excused as “play money,” but not one made significant money. Crenshaw, Pelosi, et al are different. You wonder if some how they invest with knowledge that everyday investors don’t have. But I better not go there, that might imply that members of Congress aren’t completely ethical.

I am not a special pleader for Dan Crenshaw, but I am not a fan of jumping on Leftist critiques against our side.
Beating the "market" is not ALL that hard if you are lucky. For example, if you bought TSLA in March of 2021, you could have about 600% gains. How in the world can you get such knowledge? I dunno, but I am a certified dumbass and me and sra blaster managed to buy some TSLA right near the bottom. We outperformed Nancy Pelosi!

There is no more Western Europe. Putting aside some areas in Germany and GB, Western Europe is a museum. I've travelled all over WE. Looks great, deep history and historical culture, amazing art, and a great place to visit. But it's essentially one big museum. Nothing else is going on. It's ancient and dead.

I'd be fine with higher congressional pay. I don't like it, but I'd accept it. But open books and no hands-on investment direction. Your invested assets must be in index funds or ring-fenced under a manager who is *not* you and doesn't take your calls unless you're raising capital for a stated purpose and it's subject to review (buying a house, paying tuition, etc.) and even then he - not you - determines what to sell.
And end the "dual households" argument for open corruption. Build a nice, luxurious federal dormitory of nice two-bedroom apartments with a separate office. It would be expensive but not unmanageable and then just provide in-DC housing as a basic benefit of elected congressional service.

It's hard to say from the chart above, but let's say Crenshaw made 15% on his $30k investment - he made $4500.

Yeah, I'm no special pleader for Congress. But their performance isn't that great. It's also concentrated in issues that are fairly public. A lot of people have those investments, and the more you can plow into it, the better you do. That said, you could make a blind trust mandatory to eliminate the appearance on impropriety. But they still go after you for that. See Loeffler.

Regarding congressional investments, keep in mind that there are a lot more congresscritters than 35. in 2021 79% of active fund managers underperformed the S&P, meaning 21% outperformed. 6.6% of congresscritters outperformed vs 21% of active fund managers (and typically these metrics are net of fees).

I worked at a company in Ohio, very profitable company. The Prezzy and CEO was a good old guy, kept an office in the plant and would walk around the place on a regular basis. Knew a lot of guys on the floor and would stop and BS with them. A buyer for the factory appeared, and a stock split was imminent. The Prez was giving any and all on the floor a heads up with an oath of silence. Why should this be different from congresscritters who have to write law to make it OK?

"Insider trading" isn't really what Congress does most of the time anyway. They have knowledge about a law, a change in a law or some type of regulatory change that will affect companies that are involved in doing "X" in a positive way and companies that are involved in doing "Y" in a negative way. They then invest accordingly.
Where it gets sketchy and I've no doubt Congress does this is when the laws, codes, rules, etc. are artificially manipulated to line their pockets. Sometimes to the detriment of the public good. That should be a crime, but I doubt it is.

I seriously doubt anyone here has actual legal evidence that Crenshaw has benefited from insider trading, and the graph showing percentage gains is a nice example of the typical media practice of leaving out key information (what base was the percentage gained on? for that matter, this is only one year...).
However, given the general behavior of congresscritters, and recent obnoxious and not terribly American-ish statements by Crenshaw in particular, why should we give any of them the benefit of the doubt?

Regarding the Disney law passed to remove its special treatment, I read some legal anaylsis:
O'Hare Truck Service v. City of Northlake. The 1996 Supreme Court ruling stated clearly that when a government enacts an otherwise permissible law in order to punish an individual entity for their exercise of free speech, the law becomes unconstitutional at that point.
I don't know if this is accurate or not but it does not feel like it applies to this case. Then again, I thought that the Supreme Court could not possibly rule that Obamacare was a tax, since that would make the Deem & Pass method invalid and it made no sense so....

O'Hare Truck Service v. City of Northlake. The 1996 Supreme Court ruling stated clearly that when a government enacts an otherwise permissible law in order to punish an individual entity for their exercise of free speech, the law becomes unconstitutional at that point.
I don't know if this is accurate or not but it does not feel like it applies to this case.

I've often wondered why the GOP has been so quiet too. I think they more or less agree with the direction the junta is going. Maybe not the speed at which they're pushing the country, but the direction for sure. And the discussions up thread about Congress and their inside trading probably factor into it as well. Trillions of dollars stand to be grifted up over the next couple of decades if the powers that be can shift the national economy over to solar, wind, EV's, beyond meat, etc.
As always, it's about the money.

It's not really a surprise, the Texas Dem Party has gotten to where the only nominees they put up are self funded millionaires (like Beto) or local people who think it's a lot of fun to see their name on the ballot and never get around to actually running a campaign or anything.
That's why this year's Texas election, except for a couple of runoffs in May, is already over.

Except that it was a privilege extended to Pedo World. It was not an absolute right. Pedo Rodents lawyers effed up in that there was never an agreement in perpetuity. In fact it could be argued that granting a corporation an autonomous governance is unconstitutional. It can also be argued even more compellingly that these privileges were not being removed to just Pedo World. They were the only ones who had it so if anything it is leveling the playing field.
