The Stars At Night Are Big And Bright, Deep In The Heart Of The ONT!

Evening Horde! Now, I know most of y'all come to the ONT breathlessly anticipating my take on things. “That Dave, he's a good egg” you say with your Thursday morning coffee, “I sure can't wait until tonight when I can bask in his wisdom on the ONT”. I know you wait all week for my commentary. I have accepted the awesome responsibility of telling you how to think (Me and Mika Brzezinski, 2 peas in a pod, we are) and I don't take that lightly. But unfortunately today I almost tore my ring finger off transplanting an apple tree, and it hurts a bit to type, so tonight we're going big on links and small on commentary. Yay! We can start with some content for AtC:

Today's Conspiracy Theory

Food Plants.jpg
Right click and open in a new tab to embiggen

We have brains designed to spot patterns. That helps primitive man survive in the jungle. Unfortunately, it helps modern man come up with conspiracy theories. Here's one that I've seen a lot of people talking about lately: “OMG! The CIA is destroying all of the food plants in America! They plan to starve us!”

Now I wouldn't put anything past the US Government, but the graphic above is the kind of thing that is usually presented as “evidence”. That's 18 incidents, spread over more than a year. I honestly don't know how many food processing plants there are in America, but I'm willing to bet that 18 is only a minuscule fraction of them. I think their brains may be finding a pattern where none exists.

One World Government

UN aid workers raped 60,000 people as it’s claimed organisation employs 3,300 paedophiles

The respected academic said: “There are tens of thousands of aid workers around the world with paedophile tendencies, but if you wear a UNICEF T-shirt nobody will ask what you’re up to.
“You have the impunity to do whatever you want.
“It is endemic across the aid industry across the world”.
“The system is at fault, and should have stopped this years ago.”
Professor MacLeod worked as an aid boss for the UN all over the world, including high profile jobs in the Balkans, Rwanda and Pakistan – where he was chief of operations of the UN’s Emergency Coordination Centre.
He is campaigning for far tougher checks on aid workers in the field as well as the abusers among them to be brought to justice, and wants the UK to lead the fight.
The professor’s grim 60,000 figure is based on UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres’s admission last year that UN peacekeepers and civilian staff abused 311 victims in just one 12 month period over 2016.

The UN also admits that the likely true number of cases reported against its staff is double that, as figures outside of war zones are not centrally collated.

Tell me again why we should be suborning our national sovereignty to the UN. Of course, the author of the following piece probably thinks that 60,000 rapes are a good thing.

Yes, kink belongs at Pride. And I want my kids to see it.

She likes exposing her kids to perverts at pride parades. She thinks watching them get their perv on it public is a valuable lesson for her kids, teaching them to be “authentic” and “comfortable with who they are”. She would probably opine that the UN rapes teach the poor kids in war torn African nations valuable lessons about how life is nasty, brutish and short. Undoubtedly the younger they learn to deal with rape trauma, the more complete people they will be. I can not believe where we are as a society on perversion, how fast we've fallen back towards the norm. Remember, child sexual abuse has historically been quite common. WE are the anomaly, here in the west, due to the influence of Christianity. It's not something I want to regress on. Protect the Children: The scary reality involving sexual abuse of the truly vulnerable.

Not Quite “Live! Laugh! Love!” In The Bedroom

Personally, the only place I have one of those kitschy signs is in my bathroom:

The System Fails

A soldier was left to die alone in his barracks for 5 days. His family wants to know why

It was the first day back from a four-day weekend and Smither had not been accounted for that day. Smither had spent the previous week reporting to sick call and Womack Army Medical Center with severe headaches, nausea and sensitivity to light, for which he was prescribed medication and placed on quarters, after hitting his head on the radiator of a vehicle in the motor pool. Shortly before 3 p.m. Smither’s team leader, a specialist, asked the duty desk at the barracks for the keys to Smither’s room, according to a redacted Army Criminal Investigation Division (CID) report obtained by Task & Purpose. There, they discovered Smither’s body on the floor of the barracks room. According to the CID report, one of the soldiers present checked for a pulse, but it was fruitless: Smither was dead and had been for some time. It was the first time anyone had actually seen or checked on Smither in at least five days — and his family is demanding the Army answer: why?

Just a sad and tragic story all the way around. Rest in Peace Pvt. Smither. May your senseless death lead to reforms that ensure such a thing can not happen again.

The War On Elon

Elon Musk isn't the villain the left needs, but he's the villain they deserve

Lowry has plenty to say about Musk, not all of it glowing, but in terms of the current debate over the possibility of him controlling Twitter, he makes one clear point. Musk represents “a clear and present danger to the use of Twitter as a one-sided instrument to impose progressive rules on the public debate.”
Speaking as someone who has been watching this food fight unfold from the cheap seats, I would have to agree. And I know of far more examples that crop in places where most people won’t see them. I follow and engage with an eclectic mix of people on Twitter, ranging from full-on liberal socialists to some of the most hard-boiled conservatives. And the reactions from those more left-leaning correspondents has been amazing to behold.

The left clearly thinks of Twitter as their ballpark and are mad to try and prevent real life from leaking into their bubble.

Thursday Night Nostalgia

I saw a discussion on another forum, people were talking about their first handheld video games. You had folks talking about their Switch, or their Game Boy, etc. I decided that the category was “first handheld electronic game” and so I decided to whip this bad boy on them:

Anyone else have one of these?

My question is: Whose shoulder are they going to fire this from? I mean, .50 BMG is usually somewhere between 700-800 gr, this ammo is more than twice that. Holy crap! What would such a rifle be used for?

51 That 14.9 SOP is well over the .50 cal. bore size limit set by the ATF, so it'll be a Destructive Device, requiring the appropriate licenses. Both the manufacturer's license, and the license for the end user.

Add an explosive projectile, and now each and every round will require a $200 ATF tax stamp of it's very own.

I'd think an adapter for the M-2 .50 cal's traversing tripod would be the perfect firing platform for the thing, though. And no, I'm not volunteering my shoulder to the enterprise, even with enough muzzle brake on it to silence Meghan McCain.

Ukraine has a Navy. Their flagship was scuttled by their own sailors. Most of their ships have been captured by the Russians.

yeah, I've seen this too, about fires in general, not just food processing plants. And just in the last couple days, Russia had a military research facility burn AND some chemical plant burn.

But before I dismiss the 18 fires as a minuscule fraction, I'd want more info. Fires in general are miniscule fractions ... 18 seems high. AND we know there is an anti-meat agenda. So I can't dismiss anything without better data. (except the moon landing, clearly faked, as Whoopi proved)

It is possible that the Ukrainians pulled that attack off on their own. The Russians themselves posted a video of one of their ships shooting an anti-air missile at a Ukrainian Bayraktor TB-2 drone that day. The Ukrainians say they used a TB-2 to both get targeting info and to make the Moskva focus its attention in the wrong direction. The Russian video is an admission from their side that there was at least one Bayraktor in the air harrasing them when it happened.

88 70 So... we had to replace our 20 year old LG washer and dryer this week. Went to Lowes. Found a suitable GE set in our budget. Delivered today... but the lazy shits on the truck wouldn't even try to remove the old set. Too heavy. Not enough room.

A man and woman. The woman didn't even get off the truck. Barely spoke English. Tiny people. Like all of 5' 4".

Got a phone call from whomever Lowes uses for logistics and they wanted to know how satisfied I was. It was a lengthy call. This is the state of home delivery now.

Avoid the big chains whenever possible, they are shit in every imaginable way. I bought a new couch in 2020 from a small locally-owned furniture store. I told the delivery guys they could leave it on the porch, as I had someone coming to get the old couch for donation. They said, "Don't worry about it," took out the old couch and carried the new one in. About that time, the donation truck showed up, and they loaded the old couch on it. Never asked for a penny. I tipped them each $20 and will now never buy furniture anywhere else. Keep it local when you can.

104 "Twitter" or as they say "Social Media" is what I call "The Internet".

Yeah, it's a specific website, or platform, but it's important to understand the leftists want complete control of it.

It bleeds over into other forums, other places, obscure corners of the world wide web. I'm not "on" Twitter, but I see the same sort of over-arching control mentality on forums and sites by people that I can only assume are fully immersed in that kind of culture.

It isn't enough in their mind to simply avoid topics of discussion, or avoid opinions they disagree with. They want any such discussion shut down completely, if it does not comport 100 percent with their worldview. Usually couched in terms that sort of sound reasonable, but really aren't. Being "Reasonable", after all, has turned much of the nation into a Bizarro World fun-house mirror reality.

Don't be fooled, and tell these assholes to get bent. They are anything but "tolerant" or "reasonable".

107 The thing about Twitter was for a while the non-left owned it and the left's dumb crap was usually quickly shot down and ridiculed mightily. So they figured out what every leftist figures out eventually. Just exterminate, in some sense, your opposition and then you win. And that's what they did.

So maybe that will change and non-leftists might be allowed to open their mouths once again before their leftist ruling class masters, for a time. Just remember they left silenced you once. They removed you from their presence. They didn't care how, just that you were gone. And they have not changed.

Have you?

He's ambitious, he gets shit done, he has a whole lot of fuck-you money and a willingness to use it, and--crucially--he's not just some politician stirring up trouble to get money and votes for the next election cycle. The coalition leader *has* to be someone who operates outside of America's dysfunctional political system, whose judgment and leadership are not clouded by the urge to play all the angles and get ahead.

And on top of that, he's also responsible for making about 30 years of liberals' techno-utopian dreams come true. It's like those myths about a great creator who makes amazing things but then takes them away when the beneficiaries show themselves to be ungrateful little shits with no understanding of responsibility.

Query: What was the brand and type of those cigars you sent to Corsicana, last year? Those were quite good, and I'd like to track some down.

Thanks (again) for those, then, and thanks in advance for re-identifying 'em !

I can't imagine Trump's ego will allow him to take the VP position. Same for a lowly congressional seat. However, the possibility of becoming Speaker once he is a congresscritter is something else. The speakership is particularly fitting for a pompous wheeler and dealer business man.

It would be glorious! We wouldn't have to wait till 2024 to see the leftist heads combust. It would happen the moment he takes the congress seat.

168 The fellow who was found dead in his barracks.

Looking back, I can sort of see how it could happen, if all the bad things "stack up".

A four day weekend is a beautiful thing to a lower enlisted. Weekends don't mean much in the military sometimes. "Only two more workdays till Monday!" was the refrain. So he was "lucky" - not everyone gets the 4 day weekend - somebody has to pull duty, for example.

Where was his roomate? Typically everyone gets together and does something for a long weekend. I would not necessarily hold his chain of command at fault - because there are no formations or roll calls for the weekends. It is a very unfortunate incident.

The fact that he was ill places it in a different category however. Somebody should have been checking up on him. And in this age of text messages it would be trivial.

179 Yeah, McCarthy is done now.

I also saw Grenell hinting that Trump might run for Congress so he could become Speaker of the House.

The timing would fit with the release of the McCarthy tape where he was talking to Liz Cheney about removing Trump and making sure Pence didn't pardon him (for God knows what).

And if you want to spend some time in your bunk, that would put Trump in line for the presidency behind one guy who might get marched off to prison or die of an aneurysm at any moment, and some form of hyena-human hybrid who would have to be removed by any means available before she could assume power.

Worse, they were doing BECCE drills (Basic Engineering Casualty Control Exercises) while we performing an Underway Replenishment. We were wired up to the USS Kansas City, supplies coming over... when an Ensign down in Engineering decided he needed to charge the firehoses for the excercise..... with no on manning the hose...

Saltwater straight into the main electrical distribution panel... and they had not split the boards, so it took out the secondary... and the ship went dark. By the time they figured out what was going on, the venturi effect between the two ships... pulled us together... we hit bow on, trashing the sonar dome.

They did not relieve the Capt.... because Desert Storm was just starting, and we were still sea worthy... although limited in speed.... but he 'retired' right after we got back.

Oh, and gave him some motrin and tylenol, and drink water

That's criminal. It is not the same but reminds me of the animals that were supposedly health care workers at the California student clinic when my son was a student in that ***hole. Absolutely refused to give him antibiotics and he had a history of asthma and uri that would settle in his lungs causing hard to clear bacterial infections.

Head trauma requires monitoring throughout the night. Whoever let this kid down should have the wrath of God come down on him.

Nobody is going to shoot that from their shoulder. It's retarded. A 220 gr 300BLK running subsonic at 1050 fps only has 539 fp of energy.

Another strange thing from Tucker tonight. Someone noticed that traffic fatalities were up 10% overall in 2020 compared to 2019. And this was during all the shutdowns -- people weren't driving as much by a long shot, yet a 10% increase in fatalities. Don't know how many sigma that is, but it's significant.

Then, looking deeper, turns out it was up over 20% for blacks. In one month, June or July of 2020, black traffic fatalities were up over 50% from the same month in 2019.

Racist roads, obviously. But those racist roads weren't killing that many before.

Most likely explanation: traffic enforcement, especially for blacks and in black neighborhoods went down big down. With BLM and all that shit, the cops didn't want to be accused of racism and driving while black bias and all that.

Result huge increase in number of dead blacks. BLM and their allies are killing more than the KKK ever did.

Oh its still there; but it's questionable as to how much it will increase the cost. If I understand it correctly, it allows the Board to create a large amount of new shares which may be obtained by the current share owners. *but* doing that dilutes the value of existing stock, so it may not do much to raise the price.

yeah, I've seen this too, about fires in general, not just food processing plants.

398 The problem with the Me 262 going into production rests squarely with the RLM thinking they could win the war with what they had.

The 262 program was very leisurely until it was really needed. Hence there had been no real commitment to get either the BMW 003 or the Jumo 004 ready for production as soon as possible. So the Jumo 004, world's first axial jet engine, was McGuyvered to run on poor quality steel parts and then pray an engine could last more than 25 hours before catching fire, shedding blades, blowing up or all the above before replacement.

Hitler's directive lifted the program out of the RLM morass to an extent and gave it priority. Even as Sturmvogels with Wikinschiffs were going to the bomber units, roughly 25% were covertly being completed as fighters and funneled to JG 7.

So Hitler was a wash in the long view. RLM's lack of urgency is what really doomed the Me 262 and to a certain extent the Arado Blitz which relied on the same Jumo engine.

401 Not a total ghost-town at the range today, unlike last time. Military had all the small ranges, at least most of the day. I lobbied the gunnery mate with the EOD outfit to resume using some main range lanes for their M249 familiarization shoots - it was nice to loiter and learn all the ins/outs of feeding, barrel replacement, etc. They'd not let us fire a belt because, reasons, actually on the smaller ranges which are more private they'd let us.

One RO brought this black powder double-barreled shotgun with barrels about 14 inches long. Didn't see him touch it off but he said it was great, both shot and these saboted slugs worked well. Not a firearm by ATF standards, so really an interesting option for home defense with "over the counter" equipment (Pyrodex black powder substitute also easy to buy, no guvamint check/registration of any kind).

Trucking volume is down 87% in China's agricultural heartlands. Further a third of farmers in Jilin, Liaoning, and Heilongjiang can't get fertilizer or seeds for the spring crops. Because said fertilizer and seed is stuck in cargo holds in Shanghai.

Authorities are also sealing off access to rural villages. Meaning the seed and fertilizer which got off the ships can't get to the cities. But, its not like that would matter anyways. Local authorities are arresting farmers for being on their tractors. In a field. By themselves.

Due to Zero COVID policies.
And now truckers are just dumping food on the side of the road because they're being told they will have to be locked down in their trucks for weeks if they enter the city.

448 Two little items that may have not received any notice in western "press".

Provisional civil administration of "liberated" areas of Kharkhov oblast in Ukraine (russkis, in other words) have said once things are "stabilized", there will be a referendum on the areas' "political future".

Umm, this is a potentially interesting or ominous little thing. Russia has zero territorial claim on any of this area. Even the breakaway regions to the southeast of there, Moscow has always scrupulously described them as Ukrainian territory in their official statements and formal actions like the Minsk accords. "Minsk is dead" saideth Vlad as he launched this war, but "autonomy" or anything of the sort for areas like Kharkov, AFAIK, has never been a topic or question.

"Pray I don't alter the deal further" mostly likely what this is.

At the last night shoot of the much missed steel madness shoots up in Chino, the organizer had an Anaheim PD cruiser for the one of the stages, a real one. Gunz were staged on a barrel outside (his buddy didn't want to have to explain bullet holes in the floor), but we used the searchlight to find targets before jumping out to engage. Epic.

466 Methos, yes, or alternatively (but basically same dynamic) Moscow's worst fears about western malevolent encroachment having been vindicated (in Moscow's view), they've got to think of more buffer territory. (I think they've already realized that WRT Donetsk/Lugansk, oblast borders won't suffice, they'll need a buffer zone beyond equal to Uke artillery range - merely "autonomy" or de facto Russian dominance/protection clearly no longer a sensible goal)

But I still tend to think this is attempting to build leverage, not new policy goals.

I was reading about the copyright thing. Disney's original Mickey Mouse is the one that will expire in 2024. A whole string of their and other characters (Loony Toons) will start expiring over the next few years into the 2030s.

They should have expired long ago, but Hollywood and Disney in particular just flat out bribed Congress to extend them.

There were some other lesser, but still pretty big copyrights that started expiring in 2019 or so. Hollywood didn't fight that. They said they knew it would trigger a firestorm, and they couldn't get away with what they used to.

But I think Disney will fight.

501 I'm convinced that enlisted personnel get the shitty end of the medical care stick. Kids get injuries that stay for life without any support during or after active duty. While active most injuries are hidden because nobody wants to look weak or be seen as a shitbird. When leaving active duty often there is no screening for problems. The va is a joke after service because the va sucks in every way. Looking back I had medical problems that should have prevented my service they took me anyway because i filled a billet that was hard to fill. I toughed out six years and left worse off. Would I do it again? Yes. But I wouldn't hide my health issues.

A lot of things were already in the works when my friend decided to move and offered me his house, so I basically went ahead and did the house like I was staying in it. One reason was so it was competitive in my area, and I really wanted to see it done. I had the floors sanded and redone, all new paint, new black granite hearth for the fireplace, a shit ton of epic molding, new windows, new siding, garage door, new HVAC system....and I didn't want a single frigging ass picker in there to fuck anything up "staging" the place. I did all the work except for the siding, the HVAC, and floor sanding. 9 months I broke my ass. Nobody was going in there.

I've been playing around with my old vintage calculator collection. I'm slowly getting all my stuff set up in Miley's new house here. It's a slow process, but I've got all the time in the world.

I've got two vintage '80s Radio Shack scientific calculators, and EC-4004, my first, bought in high school, and an EC-4020. Both were made by Casio, OEM, and Radio Shack put it's name on them.

The 4020's batteries were dead, and I replaced them, twin CR2032s. Fired it up, seemed to work fine. But then I got in Base-n mode, where it does, binary, hex, and octal.

It's acting screwy. In hex mode, it doesn't display the lower two digits. In octal mode, it only displays the last digit. That is you enter 7 + 1, and the result is zero.

The current value is in there, as switching back to normal and retrieving the last value stored is correct, but the digit display is just messed up in those two modes. Weird. I have reset it a couple times, but to no avail.

GoFundMe would shut that shit down before it even received its first dollar. When the left controls all means of peaceful protest, our protesters have to think outside the (lefty) box. Except for that ammo box. Always a last resort. The left shuts down the right's right to peaceful protest never quite understanding that that real, not hyperbolic, ammo box is our last resort (and the reason why they want to kill the 2nd Amendment). Because the left's arguments cannot stand up to reason or debate, they use their Big Tech/Corporate Media monopoly to attempt to shut down or criminalize any protests against the left's agenda before that protest can get a foothold (see: The TEA Party). No one has ever accused the left of being critical thinkers. Totalitarians, yes, critical thinkers, no.

I think it has more to do with them having no principles. They see which way the power shift is (hard left) and want to stay in or near power. So going Woke is the way to go. Just like all the talking (and writing) 'conservative' airheads we've come to know and hate, they are grifters looking for their next paycheck.

Interesting. Not sure it would pass constitutional muster, though. Making the civil penalties for one murder different from other murders. What about the murder of a parent through non-DUI vehicular homicide, like a home invasion, etc? Would that murderer be on the hook for child support as well? Maybe now it would pass muster as the Constitution is nothing more than 1-ply toilet paper. The bill sounds good in theory, but the practicality of it leaves a lot to be desired.

I remember reading something many years ago. There were two things, according to the NT, that got Jesus mad, I mean stomping mad. Pissed off. Righteous anger.

One was the money changers in the Temple thing. Didn't like that one little bit.

The other, and this is somewhat tamed down as most understand it, but the author said was another one was the "suffer the little children" thing.

They tried to keep a bunch of kids from bothering Jesus. Go away, shoo. That pissed off JHC pretty good: "Suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not, for such is the kingdom of God!" He was pretty pissed off.

He added, "Verily I say unto you, whosever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein."

IOW, JHC didn't think too much of adults shirking their responsibilities to their children. A parent is responsible for how their child turns out. Oh, the child has free will ultimately, but the Big Guy is keeping account of how you teach and mold them.

April 22. Earth Day. And my birthday. Sometime around 8AM this day in '67 I popped out into this world. I hit the double nickel. 55.

When I was a kid, my father said that you had to be 40 before you had good sense. When I hit forty, 15 years go, I asked, well Daddy, do I have good sense now?

He replied, sorry son, I've changed it. You've got to be 60 before you have good sense.

So, 5 more years to go. If he's still alive and not too far gone by then (he'd be 99), he'd probably say he's raised it to 80.
